WHO DARE SAY THE SUN IS FALSE?

Blood drips from the presiding stand of the Galactic Senate. The metal, scored and twisted - signs of a struggle, or simply of unreasonable and unrestrained force. A cleanly severed head lies sleeping on red stained robes. It's body set back, crawling away from the scene. The blood fills the chamber, it overflows. Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine is dead.

He was murdered yesterday - New Year's Day, 19BBY. Believed to have been practising for a major speech, his location was supposed to be secret whilst the Senate was out of session for the day. His killer; Jedi Master Mace Windu, assisted by Shaak-Ti, Ki-Adi Mundi, and several other Jedi. The group of assassins seemingly bypassed all Senate security, presumably with the aid of supportive Senators. There were no witnesses, and even the security cameras were off. First knowledge of the event came from Mace Windu himself, who revealed what had happened to a lowly Senate Guard on patrol. Details of the death have only just begun to filter to the public.

So far, Mace has only stated that he acted to save the Republic. Apparently he had it on good authority from a source close to the Chancellor that Sheev Palpatine was, in fact, a Sith Lord; and that the force confirmed it. But there were other motives at play; with his Security Amendment Act due to be voted on soon, tensions in the Senate were close to boiling point. No doubt those Senators that supported Windu had interests besides the balance of the force.

In some places public mourning has already begun; at others, celebrations. Across the Galaxy Sheev Palpatine was a polarising figure - many saw him as the sign of a deep sickness, others felt he was a saviour. But he guided the Republic through it's greatest crisis in 1000 years, and all agree he was a man of unmatched vision. Nonetheless, clashes are expected to erupt imminently.

The Galaxy, however, stops for no one - even Sheev Palpatine, and the public has already begun to ask; what now? It's been over a century since a Chancellor has died in office, and it has been over a millennia since it's occurred in wartime. Initially, sharp eyes turned to the Vice-Chair, Mas Amedda, widely viewed as Palpatine's second-in-command in the Senate.

But sharper eyes still noticed that Mas Amedda was not next in the line of succession. The Vice-Chancellor, a position most had forgotten about, was someone else. It was one Gaed Dullma.
Gaed Dullma, known in his prime as "the Elder", was once thought to be the representative in body and spirit of the soul of the Republic. Widely respected across all factions, he was a charismatic and personable figure - a model Senator, and largely free of any public corruption. A noted enemy of the Trade Federation, he suffered for what was then considered to be a warlike position (now vindicated), and only barely lost out on the Chancellorship to Finis Valorum.

But that was several decades ago. The purpose of Gaed Dullma has been, for the past 13 years, to appear at all the lesser-known functions that Palpatine was too busy for. He lended a veneer of tradition and class to Palpatine's reign, which he could roll out whenever questions were being asked. Moreover, he was so old that he was long past asking any questions of his own. Only an increasingly vague sense of duty seemed to keep Gaed in the Senate, rather than in a retirement home on Zeltros.

As of yet, Gaed has been unavailable for comment. A doctor was seen entering his Senate chambers shortly after the news broke - rumour has it that he suffered a minor heart attack when he heard of Palatine's demise. Legally, Gaed is only obligated to hold an election to the Chancellorship as-and-when he likes. But many doubt that this fast-fading north star of the Republic can continue to man the helm for long.

PRO PATRIA MORI - THE CLONE WARS, 19BBY

At the dawn of 19BBY the savage Clone Wars remain in full swing. With the early offensives of the CIS finally blunted, Chancellor Palpatine promised to crush the CIS once and for all, beginning a maximalist strategy of besieging the CIS' Outer Rim holdings. Whilst the Republic has finally begun to secure a material advantage over the CIS in the course of the war, the CIS has scored several tactical victories during their retreat, and the progress of the Republic armadas has been significantly slower than expected. Many traditionalists felt this strategy was too aggressive, whilst militarists believed it was the only way to secure total victory.

As battles rage across the Galaxy, morale also fluctuates heavily. Not since the Sith Wars has such bloodshed been seen, and Galactic Warfare is a phenomenon few expected to see outside of holocrons. As news of the Chancellor's death spreads to the front, discord at every rank has already begun to erupt, and the entire chain of command is deep in confusion. Indeed, many officers are unsure whether it would be less treasonous to obey or arrest their Jedi commanders. For the Separatist's, it couldn't be more welcome - raising hopes just as the war seemed to had turned against them, and offering a chance to take the initiative. The Clone Wars are still anyone's game.

MYGEETO/MUUNULIST - Under the command of Mace Windu, Mygeeto seemed close to falling, opening up Ord Trasi and the possibility of encircling Yaga Minor. But Windu's sudden flight to Coruscant threw operations into chaos, and news that their commander is responsible for the death of Palpatine is being greeted with much confusion and strong feelings. Meanwhile, General Greivous leers from his base at Muunulist, eager for any opportunity to turn the tide and take revenge for being forced onto the defensive.

MANDALORE - Considered one of the two worst assignments in the Galaxy, Mandalore has quickly reminded the Galaxy of it's ancient pedigree as a world of warriors. Although the coup that overthrew Duchess Satine was greeted mostly by trepidation, the subsequent occupation of Republic forces has broadly united the populace in virulent opposition. The resistance employs every kind of technique to make life hell for the Republic, from insurgents to timed plasma bombs - although on many parts of the world, even the flood of Republic forces have had difficulty holding down nominal control. General Pong Krell is increasingly out of patience.

FELUCIA - The other worst assignment in the Galaxy, Felucia is a very different kind of hell. Possessed of a uniquely force-sensitive ecosystem, full of enormous, and extremely deadly, plant and animal life, fighting on the planet is more like fighting against the planet - itself perhaps the Galaxies greatest bio-weapon. Separatist troops use hit-and-run tactics to harass the Republic forces, whilst otherwise letting them grind themselves down simply trying to stay alive.

CATO NEIMODIA - Having managed to quietly hold out in the Galactic core, Neimodia was only recently occupied by General Plo Koon, overcoming a CIS military blockade. The world is still being pacified.

GEONOSIS/RYLOTH/HYPORI - The birthplace of the war, Geonosis is a world of great symbolic significance in the Clone Wars, as well as possessing substantial droid factories. Along with Ryloth, occupied by Wat Tambor early in the war, securing these Outer Rim pockets has been a central goal of the offensive. Generals Obi-Wan and Aayla Secura are still menaced, however, by the brilliant Sev'rance Tann, who managed to slow their advance significantly. The difficult desert environment, and strange tactics of the native Geonosians, has proved difficult to advance through - whilst Ryloth, a world with one side perpetually in the light and the other in the dark, requires constantly alternating equipment and tactics.

THE GAME BEGINS - IT IS 19.1BBY

The death of the late, great Chancellor Palpatine is a disaster, an unabated tragedy that all in all sides of the political aisle can agree on. Justice will act upon its perpetrators, no doubt, but if Palpatine is dead his legacy - of justice, of peace, of a commitment to a galaxy without war or strife, must live on.

As such, I invite you all to the first annual Sheev Palpatine Memorial Fundraiser Gala, held at the Galaxies Opera House, to benefit the less fortunate of Coruscant and the Galaxy, and to commemorate the life of this great man.

NO, SERIOUSLY, ITS SECRET

Sate, you ignorant slut. You had one job, Pestage. One job. And the first time it's tested you failed to an enormous degree. Clean this up, and make sure that Windu finds nothing. We can argue chain of commands and the like later - for now, we act. We can confer when I return from Byss.

Miss Moore, I appreciate the sentiment of wanting to honor the legacy of a good man like Chancellor Palpatine, but let us not be overly hasty. Now is not the time for parties, when he has not even been laid to rest in a proper funeral. There will be time for such things later. For now, we must pay our respects, and mourn the loss that has occurred.

Geonosis - The Desert that devours armies

Archduke Poggle the Lesser was once a humble worker of the Geonosian Hives, forced into slavery and subjugation by those who held themselves his greater. Pushed too far, he rebelled and lead an uprising of his fellow slaves against their overseers, an uprising that might very well have failed... but for the subtle assistance of several off-world parties.

Poggle won. He broke his chains, took the throne, and fed his former masters to wild beasts in the same arenas that had been the graveyards of so many of his kin. And from there, he lead his people into the ranks of the nascent CIS, and the first galactic war in over a thousand years.

When news of Palpatine's death comes, the Archduke has little time to celebrate. There is a Republic Fleet in orbit, a Republic army on the ground, and while the sands clot and solidify with the blood of ten thousand invaders the battle is not so easily won. Geonosians are swift fliers and natural engineers, and more importantly this is their world. Poggle knows every inch of Geonosis, every tunnel and hive, and he has the native fighters and the droid foundries necessary to make a real fight of it. Taking Geonosis will require strength and willpower in great quantities... and with the news of the Chancellor's murder, the latter is in short supply.

The sands will feed well this year...

Well, we're not here for a eulogy. We can let the other side do that. The crafty bugger is dead. In the eyes of my crew I see fire. They know this changes everything.

We move soon.

Sly Moore gestured to a clone trooper, and to the one flanking him.

"With me."

An elevator whisked the Umbaran and the two clones down, deep into the underlayers of the large spire which jutted out into the planet's sky. They went beneath layers of research labs and data stores, of vaults of ancient knowledge and alchemical lairs. The elevator stopped, with a thud, and the doors opened, with a whirr.

"Give me your blaster. Then stay here."

The clone obeyed, unquestioning.

Moore took a step forward, and placed a palm on a sensor before her. The sensor beeped, and sank into the ground, and an immense set of double doors opened in front of her. She stepped forward, into the room, and then let the doors slam shut behind here.

Lights ignited, one at a time, showing a series of bodies floating in bubbles, each one with a shock of red hair and patrician features. Sly raised the blaster.

"Oh, Sheev. Sheev, Sheev, Sheev. Too trusting perhaps would never be a flaw attributed to you, but still..."

Blam!

The sounds echoed on, one by one by one.

"Cody, Cody, can you hear me?" Obi-Wan's voice rings in Marshall Cody's helmet. "I've got bad news and worse news." The Jedi General sounds - shaken? Not at ease. Worried, even.

"What i don't understand is why we haven't just gone and killed him already?"

"Our Lady wishes to know how he even got past the Mists. They are supposed to be impossible for outsiders to navigate which means either he has access to a traitor's star maps or he's some kind of navigatorial genius. Either way, it means he's to be kept alive for now."

The two guards conversation was cut short by a belch from the cell they were standing outside, the food tray now empty slid back from underneath the cell door.

"Typical Male..."

"
I'll have you know that i am anything but typical!" The cells occupant replied in a huff, his voice a indignant squark of protest. Relaxing against the wall of his cell, he adjusted his hat so it covered his eyes as he laid down on his makeshift bed.

Captain Hondo Ohnaka was beginning to feel underappreciated. How could his intelligence be questioned like this? Perhaps the isolation from the rest of the galaxy affected the minds of the natives, for how else could they fail to understand that it was pure instinctive skill that led him to plotting a course through the mists as he and his crew avoided the Jedi's patrolling Venator that disagreed with his lifestyle. So much for being the side of Freedom!

Truly no-one could understand him, he concluded mournfully, barely stirring in alarm as the outerwall of his cell detonated inwards, chunks of rock and dust spilling against the door of his cell. Alarms ringing, Hondo swaggered out of his cell, squinting at the non-artificial light as he helped his cellmate to his feet, the human gratefully taking his hand.

"Remember this the day, you almost caught Captain Hondo Oh-" Sudden blaster fire from one of the guards, at the now open cell door, sent the pirate diving into cover as he sprinted away with the rest of the escaping prisoners.

"Thank you again Ohnaka, i really owe you this time." Stated his fellow pirate. Hondo merely grinned as he put his arm around his companions shoulder, walking him into the belly of their awaiting transport, its saucer shaped hull casting a shadow over their approach.

"About the payment...it turns out your Republic Bounty is much larger than you told me you sneaky devil you." Ohnaka gloated, firing a stun round at his surprised companion before he could respond, the man falling limply to the ground with a clang. Hondo flinched in sympathy, gesturing to one of his crew members as the door closed behind them, the shuddering of takeoff indicating they were now airborne and on their way to escape.

"When he wakes up, be sure to offer him a drink for the headache. We aren't monsters after all"

The crew-member, either smarter or stupider than most, depending on who you asked, stood in thought for a moment, glancing at the rifle in his hands. "Whats to stop us from claiming both your bounties?"

Hondo didn't even blink as he strode over to the other Weequay, who towered above him, nose to...chest.

"You didn't think i'd trust you with actually loaded guns?" He asked rhetorically. As the mutinous crew-member blinked in surprise, he felt himself fall backwards, a blaster hole now burnt into his chest as his Captain stood before him, having snatched the rifle from his hands during his moment of hesitation.

"Now, does anyone else wish to renegotiate their position on my crew? the Captain asked aloud, casually pointing the rifle towards the rest of the ships occupants. Naturally, no-one spoke up to voice their complaints at his inspiring leadership.

"No? Then let us go find a much more profitable venture." Hondo stated grandly with a smirk, his pose ruined when the ship rocked violently to the side as one of the pursuing fighters strafed his ship's shield.

"But first, let us see if we cannot escape my admirers. Poor deluded creatures. I would stay, but my first love is..." the Weequay paused for thought. "Well, not the void. There isn't really much to love about the absence of anything, but my friends, i sense a great opportunity for profit out in the stars!"

The Forgotten One
Zule Xiss was not a typical Jedi. Her style, her manner of speaking, her scars, and her inclination towards drinking always shocked her more reserved companions; they would whisper about her resemblance towards Master Glaive. "Like teacher, like student," they would say behind her back. She didn't mind because it was true. Many Masters told her about the Force, but only Glaive truly taught her. For that, Xiss was eternally thankful. But she wouldn't say it out loud; it would give that oaf far too much pride wherever in the Living Force he was. The past three years allowed Zule to come to terms with his death. It was in his memory that she refused to fall and die in Jabiim.

The name alone earned a shudder from her. Coruscant, for all its moral corruption, was Heaven compared to that muddy hellhole. She had recently been called back from the front for R&R, and she intends to exploit her short vacation for all its worth. Getting outside of the Temple, Zule allowed herself to smile. A rare enough sight.

Today didn't seem all that bad.

"Attention! The Supreme Chancellor has just been assassinated!"

"What?!"

"His killers are none other than Jedi Master Mace Windu and his fellow cohorts in the Jedi Order!"

"Oh, come the fu--."

So the Chancellor is dead but this war is still on.

What do you want me to do boss? I got several ideas cooking up here.

To say that Sate had been surprised by Palpatine's murder was an understatement. However, to say that he was frozen like a bantha before a sandcrawler was not the case.

In fact, by the time he got Moore's message, he was already doing his best when it came to damage control, though a slight tinge of annoyance became visible as he looked at it.

TO: Sly Moore (@comradepitrovsky)

AS SECRET AS SECRET CAN BE.

It is being done. Save your tone and insults for later, when there is time for passive aggressive banter.

Any potential decisions on precisely whom is to be in charge can be tabled for later.

Pestage.

Now, back to the facts at hand. Master Windu had somehow discovered Palpatine was a Sith through 'the Force' and likely an unknown source. As of now, he had presented no evidence besides his moral convictions.

It was likely that some senators had aided Master Windu in the murder, which gave Sate the tantalizing thought of seeing Senator Organa, beaten and bloodied, before a firing squad of clones.

But he shrugged this thought from his mind. It was a well known fact that the two were political enemies, and were Sate to promptly accuse him without any proof, he'd immediately screw himself over. Besides, Bail had some uses to the Republic.

And after all, there was still a war going on. What he needed to worry about right now was keeping his job. And of course, figuring out what to do with the situation.

It would be easy to attempt to take charge, follow Palpatine's own plan (with some revisions), and imagine himself ruling over the galaxy.

But, he'd likely experience resistance from all sides. And there was a chance-

Palpatine likely wasn't going to come back. But even so, Sate could imagine him simply walking in, commenting on Sate overstepping his bounds, and killing him quickly.

No. He wouldn't be pondering any ambitious prospects, at least for now.

For now, all he had to worry about was doing his job, and figuring out what to do next.

The Marshal Commander stiffened slightly, the last time he'd heard that sort of tone from the General...well suffice to say it had been a rather disastrous day all told. The datapads were pushed off to the side, the bureaucracy of troop deployments and after-action reports forgotten for the moment. His eyes scanned across the command center until he came across the two troopers he was looking for. "Waxer! Boil!"

The two officers, clad in the distinctive armor of the 212th Assault Battalion, looked up as one. "Sir?"

"Direct orders from the General. He's calling a full staff meeting at Staging Point 2 Alpha, full brass across the entire Armada. Starting ASAP. You two are coming with me, along with a compliment from Ghost Company."

"The boys can show up those civvies any day of the week sir. We'll get it done sir" That was Boil with a cocky salute.

Waxer, however, looked more pensive "What's going on Sir? Are we pulling out of the system?"

Cody could on shake his head, "I don't know Waxer, but whatever it is it can't be good. Just have the men ready to go by 0625."

"Will do sir."

@Crilltic @Marix @AMTurtle

Republic Staging Point II-Alpha, Geonosis
Obi-Wan Kenobi has seen better days. His eyes are clouded with worry - Cody can see, cleanly and clearly. He's known the General for years, now. As can the others of the Marshal's inner circle, who have served alongside one of the Order's finest for so long in this war.

The officers from the GAR, from Admiral Sranchet to Colonel Tror, don't quite know the Jedi paragon as well as the Clones do. They see him as he usually appears when withdrawing from the fight - well-groomed, with a solidly centered bearing, his face freshly washed with a towel even as his armour still bears the dust of battle.

Thus, General Kenobi addresses everyone present. "Gentlebeings, I have bad news, and worse news. As of six hours ago, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine is dead."

Kenobi waits for the shocked gasps and exclamations of horror to stop. "We will discuss the strategic and military ramifications of this before I leave - and leave I must. From what transmissions I have received, it appears that Master Mace Windu of my Order, assisted by a number of other Knights and Masters, has been responsible for this, citing that Sheev Palpatine has been a Sith Lord - the dark mirror of the Jedi, a secret order traditionally bent on domination and control - for this summary execution under our charter."

Again, Obi-Wan waits for the people to finish their shock and outrage. But they don't. The susurrus becomes murmurs becomes several increasingly loud arguments. "Gentlemen! Gentlemen, remember who you are." It works, when he raises his voice. "Regardless of what happened on Coruscant, you are all officers of the Republic, and if nothing else I would ask you to hew to that in this hour, the ideals that we have spent the last three years fighting for."

The General paces, his armor's surcoat swishing. "I must go to Coruscant - as you know, General Skywalker was a close friend of the Supreme Chancellor and, as my former Padawan, I owe him a duty of care. Furthermore, I will investigate this... this mess, as you might imagine."

Obi-Wan takes a deep breath. "In my absence, as my executive officer, Marshall Cody - that is to say, CC-2224 - will have command of our forces here on Geonosis. For the record," Obi-Wan clears his throat as he activates the recorder of the strategium, "I explicitly mean to give CC-2224 command of all naval and ground forces of both the Clone Troopers and the Grand Army of the Republic forces attached to my command in my absence and until my return."

The human looks each and every man, woman and droid in the room in the eye. "I trust you will indeed continue to uphold the ideals of the Republic. It is larger than any of us, larger than any man, even larger than the Supreme Chancellor. It will endure, if we continue to believe in and fight for its ideals. Good luck to all of you, and may the Force be with you."

Eriadu

Information was still coming in from Coruscant, and it had yet to take shape into anything resembling a coherent story. At one moment Windu was being detained by security forces, at another he was spotted fugitive in the lower wards, and in the next he was unaccounted for, suspected offworld. Within the quarter-hour a phantom riot had teleported from the Senate Chamber to the admiralty to EmPalSuRecon to the Jedi Temple, as if leaping out of the sewers. Ten thousand different reels of footage had already flooded the holonet, and Tarkin was only reasonably sure that the ones that showed Sheev spinning into Windu like a rocket were a fake. It was chaos, unabated.

Confidential channels were little better. The players on Coruscant were only just now figuring out what had happened--by the time the full details would be released to him, half the bloody senate would already have made their move. For now, he only got pieces, mostly from his subordinates in the SAC military network--Acting Chancellor Dullma remained out of contact, the Home Defense Fleet reported no unusual activity in atmosphere, and Krennic was still complaining about something or another because of course.

Tarkin rubbed his temples and sighed. This was a catastrophe. The Chancellor dead, the war effort in chaos, the entire Admiralty's necks on the line--and he was stuck on the other side of the galaxy facing down that damned arachnid over the one place he couldn't evacuate. For all he could know his entire career now hinged on the competence of someone like Amedda and Isard--or worse, someone like Free Taa or Pestage. God help him.

Wilhuff tore open another stim pack and mixed it into his drink. He was scarcely prepared to deal with matters even before the news came in--Trench's recent maneuvers left him without sleep for a day and a half, and on top of everything the damn boots he ordered still didn't fit right. When the war was over he'd have to give the order to decimate the entire Quartermasters' division.

"Shinro, get me Admiral Yularen and the Strategic Advisory Cell, priority urgent. Have Commander Salima on another line as well."

First things first--he needed to patch himself through to the Coruscant fleet if he had even the slightest hope of effecting the current events, and he needed to convene the Admirals to coordinate the naval response to this sudden disruption in the war effort. He was quite very much invested in not being blasted by that damned spider because supplies got cut off, thank you very much.

After that... he'd have to get in contact with someone from Palpatine's immediate camp, at least. That secretary Moore in all likelihood. If he was to have a political future without Palpatine's sponsorship, it would be wise of him to incorporate himself into the old Chancellor's legacy.

Amedda, too--probably Taa as well. Decadent politicians, the whole lot of them--feeble and corrupt even at best, but if the Senate turned he'd lose his command by the end of the month. And then... he'd have to see what he could do with the administration. Isard would have to be brought on one way or another, even if he trusted the spook as far as he could throw him--the other top bureaucrats were replaceable and could well have their posts dissolved without Sheev present anyways. And then...

"Have Lon and Qordan called to the Admiral's deck, and order a dozen more stimpacks. Nonessential personal are to leave the bridge, and my quarters are to be sealed. This is going to be a long night..."

"And for the love of god, find which damn incompetent bastard issued these boots. I want him discharged by the week!"

Commander Salima, what is the status of the Coruscanti situation? Is the Senate and military command secure?

To: Sly Moore @comradepitrovsky

SECRET:
I fear my present circumstances leave me unable to leave for Coruscant and pay my respects to our friend Sheev in person, but know that I am with you in spirit in mourning this great man taken from us so soon by the worst of injustices. I shall attend any ceremony by holopresence if I am capable.

Additionally--if the Jedi are responsible for the present attack, the Chancellor's previous plans to place the Order under stricter oversight must certainly be accelerated. It may be wise for you to collect Master Skywalker as soon as is possible--if you can do so, please connect him to me at the earliest opportunity.

Orn Free Taa is no stranger to fear.

It comes in all sorts of varieties and flavors, almost like brandy. The nasty drop of the stomach when the papers arrive saying you're the subject of another ethics probe. The skittery, scratchy, almost subconscious tinge that makes you eat whenever, whenever food is offered, because you never know when you may have to miss a meal. And others, of course.

The pounding ache that accompanies every newspacket from Ryloth. That shaking, sickly feeling when you get jolted out of bed by a late night call from Coruscant law enforcement about one of the children. This one, though. This one...

The Jedi killed Sheev.

An absolute nonesuch of a sentence. It really is. Certainly, there have been disagreements between the Supreme Chancellor and some members of the Order. Just like there were when Valorum was Chancellor. Just like there were when Darus was Chancellor. Just like there have been as long as there have been Chancellors and Jedi and Sheev was a friend to the Jedi Order!

Was friends with many of the Jedi...and they killed him. The most well guarded man on the best defended planet in the Galaxy, their friend, their ally, and they killed him. " To save the Republic", because that makes any kind of sense, save the Republic by killing the man holding it together? The man willing it on to victory in the worst war since the time of Hoth and Farfalla?

Orn Free Taa is not a friend of the Jedi. Does not like them, not really. Growing up on Ryloth makes their high minded claptrap about defending the defenseless ring hollow, and the times he's been required to interact with them as a Senator...stodgy, preachy, and judgemental. But dependable, in their own way.

Until they killed Sheev. For no reason he can fathom. No reason any sane person could. And he's on this planet swarming with Jedi. Jedi that can defeat armies. Jedi that are leading armies.

And they killed Sheev.

And he doesn't know, ha! The Force doesn't know what they'll do, who they'll kill next!

Ha indeed.

Sy Tal looked into his mug. Empty, again. An attendant wordlessly rose to join the stumbling throngs journeying to the caf machine across the office.

Unlike most of the galaxy, the Judicial Arcology was neither celebrating or mourning. It was tired.

The galaxy's most useful Bothan, his assistant Vinrail, slid into the newly vacated chair, though Sy found his normal gratefulness somewhat blunted by the day's worth of work that transferred to his holopad. He read the title of the first document: Preliminary Report on the Assassination of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. "Let me guess..." he began.

But Vinrail had already entered that trance of his and begun a rapid-fire summery, "In brief, a group of Jedi led by Master Windu and including multiple other Jedi Masters attacked and killed Chancellor Palpatine yesterday on the presiding stand of the Senate. It is unknown at this time if the Chancellor defended himself, but it is likely. It is also likely that the assassins had support from various senators. It is plausible that the senators responsible had been planning this for a significant amount of time before the Jedi approached them. It is unlikely that the Jedi are correct in their assessment that the Supreme Chancellor was a Sith Lord."

Sy blinked the sleep away, processed the recap, then leaned back in his chair. The only thing that came to his mind was, "Come on Vin, what did I tell you about interrupting a man when he's making a guess?" Thankfully, he gathered his wits before the Bothan could seriously consider the question, "We have enough for an arrest?"

Vinrail nodded, "The prosecutor has approached Judge Tsilla for a warrant. He expects to prove probable cause for Murder one at minimum, as well as various associated crimes, of course."

The Provost Marshal sat in silence, "Sithspit."

"Sir?" Vinrail said, concerned.

He waved the Bothan off, shaking his head, "Just never imagined thought it would come to this..."[

Grand Master Yoda, @Skrevski

In light of recent events, I am deploying a mixed force comprised of Senate Guards, Senate Commandos, and Judicial riot police to secure the Jedi Temple. Retaliatory strikes against the Temple or individual Jedi pose a significant risk to the public safety. I ask that all Jedi remain within the Temple structure for the time being.
{-----}
Commander Fox, @bookwyrm

I am making the strongest recommendation that I possibly can that you immediately deploy the Coruscant Guard to maintain order. If you can spare the manpower, send a detachment to the Jedi Temple to help me defend it.

Director Isard, @NonSequtur

Upon consideration of the national security ramifications of this event, I would like to invite you to send a liaison to work with the ROCI team investigating the assassination of the Supreme Chancellor.

When the news came that Chancellor Palpatine was dead, Bail Organa was in his quarters at Cantham House, preparing for the Senate meeting that would determine whether the Sector Governance proposal. His aide was the first one to get him the news, the second person was Senator Amidala, and after that the comms and the media of Coruscant basically exploded.

Why? How? No one knew for certain. Yet for Senator Organa, the basic facts were soon laid bare. Jedi Master Windu had led a contingent into the Senate building, and assassinated the Chancellor. He claimed that he had no other choice, that Palpatine was a Sith Lord, and that he was very firm in this conviction. Where he had gotten this information was was unclear, but he had felt confident enough to act, and had done so with devastating results.

Bail Organa had been a friend of Palpatine, had shared his belief in the reform that was needed to save the Republic. That was why he'd signed on for the Loyalist Committee, the Senate Security Committee. They may have had their differences especially as the executive began accruing more power at the expense of the Senate, but he never would have wished for this upon even his worst enemies.

But...Bail Organa also knows the Sith. he's heard the Jedi talk about them, and even experienced their power indirectly when investigating with Kenobi on Zigoola. And if Windu was right, if Palpatine was in fact a Sith Lord, that casts so many things into doubt. He trusts the Jedi-No, more than that, he counts many of them as friends, and believes that the Order serves an integral role in maintaining peace in the galaxy.

It wasn't hard to guess what would happen next. Public opinion would swing even harder against the Jedi. There would be an uproar in the Senate. A move to bring the Order under government authority, perhaps even replace the remaining Jedi Generals that were fighting out in the field. This was going to become a political minefield fast, to say nothing of what it would do for the war effort.

He could already tell this was going to be many headaches in the coming days, but this might be the most important period in which he had ever been a Senator, more important than even the period following the Battle of Geonosis. He was going to need to give this his best effort if this was to be salvaged in any sort of favorable way.The sharks would be smelling blood, and he would need to work fast to staunch the bleeding.

They would endure this. He was sure of it

Padme, I know how hard this must be for you. Chancellor Palpatine was a friend to many of us. If you need someone to talk to, I'll be there.

I second the motion.

The Republic is legitimate because it is a government of laws, not of sophonts. It is at trials such as these that we are most called to respect the workings of our laws and the operation of our judiciary. We must remain calm while await the results of the investigation.

The Separatist Fourth Armada over Metalorn

This is Wat Tambor.

Two meters of Skakoan in a bulky, unwieldy pressure suit. Tubes and dull, gray metal cover his form, holding him in a standing position. He does not walk but glides on small repulsors and, in the case of emergency power failure, a humiliatingly squeaky set of wheels. Only the top of his head is exposed, the majority of his face covered by a mask-but the puckered scar where Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber had flicked out and removed his right eye is clearly visible.

He's had it replaced, behind his suit. No, more accurate to say he has been given a replacement, an orb of milky white. It doesn't see in the same way his old one did, but he treasures it nonetheless. A memento of his experiences beyond the Gates of Grontessiant.

It had been risky, returning to Skako. His homeworld under the Republic's watchful eye. But the Elders had called, and what Skakoan could not answer such a call? He was glad that he had done so, even knowing the outcome. Even knowing what is to come.

I will not live to see the end of this war.

A truth, terrifying in its simplicity and potency. A certainty bestowed by a power greater than him, greater than Dooku, than the Jedi charlatans. He was going to die, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Wat Tambor had spent his life collecting. Collecting power, collecting industry, collecting cultural relics from those too weak to keep hold of them. A lifetime of accumulation, of relentless acquisition. He knew, deep in the core of his being, that nothing he had collected would save him.

He had thought that his death would come at the hands of clone or Jedi. As the tide had turned in the Republic's favor, he had wondered if he would die with the Fourth Fleet, or if he would be captured and executed by the sanctimonious Republic. But now...

Now Chancellor Palpatine is dead, at the hands of one of his generals.

Now everything is changed.

Wat Tambor has spent his life accumulating. But now, he knows...now is the time to begin spending, instead.

I'll need you for multiple projects. Better I deliver your orders in person, but be prepared for some odd assignments.

Get arrest warrants prepared for every member of the Jedi High Council who we aren't absolutely sure were not on-planet in the past 48 hours. Charges are high treason, murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and dereliction of duty. We know Mace Windu was involved, and we have strong suspicions as to the rest, but just to be sure. Yes, even Kenobi, though if we end up approving that one we're in way deeper than we already are.

I want as many police as possible in and around the Jedi Temple. Nobody in, nobody out. There will be riots, and if there's footage of a padawan getting their skull cracked open, it barely matters how dangerous they might have been, it's your problem.

Keep the kid gloves on unless they act in a blatantly aggressive manner.

Gather every remaining member of the Red Guard, send them to a secure facility for debriefing. One of my men will join you.

The spreading of rumor and hearsay is a disgrace to your profession and a danger to your Republic. Sheev Palpatine is dead. He was killed by unconfirmed members of the Jedi High Council, for reasons unknown. The war effort will continue uninterrupted, and security forces have the situation under control.

On the Coruscant feeds, include a message from the Security and Intelligence Council telling citizens to not follow orders those not in law enforcement uniform.

If you broadcast anything else, including but not limited to: Sheev Palpatine spun through the air with lightsaber in hand, Sheev Palpatine gloated about the success of plots innumerable, Mace Windu declared himself 'Emperor Motherfucker', or Jedi are being executed en masse... you will be prosecuted for sabotaging the war effort, libel and defamation by the Cryptanalysis Department.

You will also be fired.

Pursuant to the Republic's Contingency Orders I am formally requesting the staged mobilization of all available clone units awaiting military honors or other ceremonies, escorting clone and non-clone GAR personnel for Senate hearings and propaganda interviews, undergoing exercises and certification for urban, atmospheric and/or sub-orbital combat, in rotation for liaisons with the Coruscanti Security Forces, Defense Fleet, Port Authority, Rescue Operations, or Corps of Engineers, and lastly assigned to rearm and refit at the Coruscant Sector Headquarters, to be deputized and coordinated by the Coruscant Guard Legions and man all planned defense posts and watches of appropriate militarization and strategic significance so as to free Coruscant Guard officers and shock-troopers from such vital duties and allow them appreciable assistance to the Coruscant Security Forces and Republic Judicial Forces in containing and dispersing the estimated level of civil conflict and acts of criminality resulting from the death of the Chancellor and the unknown disposition of the Red Guard, Jedi Masters, and opportunistic Separatist terrorists.

As well I request that Clone Intelligence prioritize an analysis discerning the utility and cost-benefit of limited activations of clone Troopers under long-term convalesce, clone Cadets graduating from their final term, and clone trainers of GAR agents and civilian contractors if the situation escalates or if Coruscant Guard reinforcements are not forthcoming, and that the Judical Forces and Bureau of Intelligence prepare systematic profiles of the various high-priority targets assigned to the Coruscant Guard for secure detainment in the case of a target lost in the chaos and need for communication of that to the Republic's many various policing and security forces, including the emergency clone defense forces.

My second, Commander CC-5869 will integrate these temporary deployments under the protocol and sensor umbrella of the Coruscant Guard and it's modified GAR Military Police practices.

Raxus- CIS Headquarters

All across Raxus eyes were glued with rapt attention to the latest breaking news, for both the Shadowfeed and the HoloNet were abuzz with extraordinary news, Chancellor Palpatine was dead, allegedly slain at the hands of a Jedi; one of the supposed defenders and guardians of the Republic. Inside the command centre of CIS commander Riff Tamson, the commander was taking a private moment to celebrate with a feast with some of his fellow Karkarodon comrades.

''The boss sure knows how to throw a feast, i haven't eaten like this for ages, this grub is great''

The stocky Karkarodon known as Angor continued voraciously shoveling meat down his gullet.

''So the old geezer was assassinated at the hands of one of their precious Jedi,. thats...thats funny!''

The large Karkarodon known as Bruce chuckled to himself at the news, all across CIS space it seemed there was celebration at the death of the tyrant from Naboo.

''Pfft the old bastard had it comin to him. ya know I heard it was Mace Windu that killed him.''

Muttered the smaller lankier Karkarodon known as chum to his large companion.

''Really? Mace Motherfucking Windu killed the Chancellor? Your serious? Imma laugh even harder now.''

The large Karkarodon bellowed his deep guttural laughter at the news before he was nudged by his smaller lankier comrade.

'' Quiet, the boss is gonna give a speech.''

As Riff Tamson ascended to the podium, all idle chatter and feasting ceased and all attention was given to the Karkarodon Commander.

''Sons and daughters of Karkaris! Recently we have seen the true face of the Republic this day, a bloated stagnant husk of its former glory devouring itself, while the Jedi have proven themselves to possess no honor. With the murder of their leader i sense blood in the water, our time will come and it shall be soon. Karkaris shall be freed from Republic occupation and the Confederacy shall bring about a new order in the galaxy. So enjoy yourselves today my friends for the day we show the Confederacy as well the Republic why are known as apex predators is soon to be upon us!''
