Invasive & Introduced Species
Subject Gizka:
Gizka are small reptiles that could be found all across the galaxy.
Whatever their native world, their extraordinary reproduction rate led to a fair amount of Gizka on many worlds finding their way from the nooks and crannies of starships. It has been alternatively postulated that they came from the mythical homeworld of the ancient Rakatan Infinite Empire and spread alongside their expansion.
Their exponential population growth led to them being considered pests on almost as many worlds as they inhabited, as they commonly ate electrical wiring.
On Cimtar, in an attempt to control their population, Gizka have become a source of staple food such as
gizka steak. More cosmopolitan gourmands are of the opinion that gizka were one of those kinds of animals that "everything tastes like."
As population control attempts have failed to keep the pests in check, some
IDIOT from the Environmental Bureau in the time of the Galactic Republic decided to introduce predators into the ecosystem in a bid to keep the Gizkas in check.
K'lor'slugs.
Subject: K'lor'slugs
K'lor'slugs were large worm-like creatures that possessed a serpentine body propelled by many dangerously-edged legs. The mouth was a gaping circular maw filled with concentric rings of teeth.
K'lor'slugs are dangerous vermiforms native to the swamps of Noe'ha'on. Carnivorous hunters possessing keen olfactory and visual senses in addition to a deadly venom. For reproduction, the creatures could lay more than 300 eggs in a single birthing period. When hatched, the young k'lor'slug was immediately ravenous for food. In addition to their aggressiveness, these creatures were considered pests aboard starships. They were known to invade the darkest spots on unsanitary space vehicles and breed. (
Probably where THAT IDIOT got the initial population, "This won't come out of my department budget!")
On Cimtar with plentiful gizka as prey, their population promptly got out of control to the point of endangering newborns in maternity wards. It was at great cost to the government in 3650 BBY when the k'lor'slug infestation was eradicated from sapient population centers (by hordes of
slaves would-be Sith Acolytes) but countless more pests now infest the countryside destroying the native ecosystem.
Now desperate, that
IDIOT from the Environmental Bureau decided to introduce another predator into the ecosystem in a bid to keep the K'lor'slugs in check.
Shyracks.
Subject: Shyracks
Shyracks were large, bat-like avian creatures with razor like teeth native to the caves of Korriban. While ungainly and slow-moving with no eyes, shyracks were potentially dangerous, especially when they converged as a flock on an intruder with aggression as well as frenzy.
A breeding population of Shyracks were transported and released into several of Cimtar's depleted mines
eagerly supported by the planets new Sith overlords post-annexation to the surprise of the citizens who never knew the Sith cared so much for the people.
Whilst typically cave bound, every sixty-six years, the shyracks of Cimtar spill from their cave habitants every day for the entire summer. These periods saw them fill the sky where they blotted out the sun and moons where they rained their bluish droppings onto everything below replenishing guano deposits on what are now known as the Purple Fields where local farmers have their droids mine for high quality fertilizer.
While moderately sucessful in depleting the k'lor'slug population, more needed to be done. Thus that
IDIOT came up with yet another bright idea.
Nadir Spiders.
Subject: Nadir Spider
Nadir Spiders are large, carnivourous arthropods native to the comets and
asteroids of the
Nuiri sector.
Being silicon-based lifeforms like
mynocks or
exogorths, Nadir spiders are capable of surviving in a vacuum; although they could survive in an atmosphere as well,
surviving the heat of atmospheric entry when their asteroid habitats get caught in gravity wells.
The creature's body consisted of a large thorax covered in jagged plates, five spindly legs set at equidistant points, and a spiny head possessing five eyes and a single mouth with five beak-like mouths. The creatures were roughly the size of a human male, and clever enough to ambush prospective prey from behind. In addition, Nadir spiders were capable of
spewing a jet of corrosive acid to a range of approximately 7.5 meters.
Blasters are useless and while ion weaponry do work, they'd fritz out our droids. They're the reason Czerka Arms
slugthrowers are listed as Standard Safety Equipment and not weapons on Cimtar.
