I'm genuinely really looking forward to this. The animation and art style look great, they're clearly taking advantage of the medium to show more non humanoid aliens, and the fact that nearly the entire cast is non human is something I've wanted Star Trek to do for years. The characters all look very endearing, and that ship looks awesome.

It'll release some time this year, as yet unspecified when. Hoping we find out soon, because this looks fun.

Just wish they'd put the trailer on YouTube without region locking.

The general expectation for release seems to be after Lower Decks, which starts August 22 and runs 10 weeks. After that will be Disco 4, Strange New Worlds, and Picard 2.

There's a panel discussion from Comic Con here:

I like the way the Protostar changes shape as it goes into warp.

Damn, they must really be upping how fast warp speed goes if it's going to be a galactic adventure. Also, if I hadn't of pre-known that was going to be a star trek trailer, I would have thought it was a star wars thing up till the ship reveal.

Well, in the novels they had Starfleet finally start using Quantinum Slipstream tech. Could be it's that... I think the Voyager novelist is involved?

So, watched the first episode, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Visuals were beautiful, the writing was pretty good, and in my opinion, not nearly as "kiddy" as some of the early reactions implied. Voice acting was generally really good, though hearing the voice of Josh from The Archers as Zero threw me for a loop. The main character's snark wasn't as irritating for me as it seems to have been for others, though the bit where he mouths off at Drednok made me facepalm a little. On the whole, very much looking forward to the rest of the series.

Yeah protag was annoying, but hyper snarky is what kids love.

Besides that, my only problem is the ship interior being very off for Trek, with loads of staircases and a domed bridge. And the overall atmosphere felt more Wars then Trek, they even got a General Grievous as the main evil henchman.

Visuals were pretty good though.

Visuals were great, but I cannot find myself to like the crew of the Protostar in any way.
They are thoroughly unlikeable as of ep 5, so I am only watching for ship itself, and any expanded lore.

The huge space things in that vid feel a tiny bit abursd... but more than that they give me an impression of a galaxy that has things that are truly alien, exotic, genuine mysteries to explore.

Medusans, huh? That's the name I haven't heard for a long time.

Those poor kids are going to have to deal with the tyrant who banned the Zebulon sisters.

Whelp, if you haven't heard the news, Prodigy has been cancelled.

Season 2 was mostly finished but it will NOT be on Paramount + and apparently, even Season 1 will be removed from the platform.

It's not super surprising to me. I don't think Prodigy achieved its intended goal in bringing in children... it feels like a majority of the viewers were adults and the show even kind of leaned in on it with the Voyager nostalgia. Prodigy very much felt like something of an experiment, so it's not surprising that if it wasn't producing the intended results, it would get the axe.

I was ok with Prodigy, but overall I think this is a good thing. Should free up resources for other projects. Weird that they're going to completely eliminate the show entirely...

...my suspicion is that this partially fueled by the success of PIC S3 and the calls for both a Star Trek Legacy show and a Voyager Reunion show... removing Prodigy wholesale from the platform makes some sense if they want to ignore it and bring back Janeway and the crew for a live action show. Being bound to Prodigy's lore makes it somewhat difficult, so it might be necessary to just... forget about it.

I really think once they did PIC S3, saw the reaction to it... AND also realized that they can likely get most if not all the actors back... Mulgrew has very publicly been down for it and has already been working with Paramount. We've also had Beltran, McNeil, Russ and obviously Ryan working with them. Wang was apparently approached for PIC S3 and was open to it but they were actually reserving him for... Prodigy. We basically just don't have Dawson, Picardo or Philips... and I know that Picardo has stated he's open to it.

Apparently CBS is still intending to finish season 2 and shop around for another channel/service to show it on, so it might not be 100% cancelled, just likely to end up as such in the final accounting. Certainly any hope of a season 3 is dead.

Which is also kind of odd though... if it's basically done, just slap it on your own platform and call it a day.

I guess CBS thinks they can squeeze a few bucks out of it at the end by having someone else pay it show it.

Either way, it being outright removed from P+ is telling... unless it's a business thing, making it more enticing to another service by allowing them to be the exclusive home of the series.

I truly think Prodigy is going to end up non-canon to make room for an inevitable Voyager reunion show or event.

‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Moves to Netflix After Paramount+ Cancellation

Both seasons of the animated kids show, including the unaired sophomore run, have found a new home.
Netflix has scooped up both the previously aired first season and has committed to airing the sophomore run once that completes production. Season one will stream later this year, with the second batch due in 2024.

With this move, Prodigy will be the first new Star Trek series to air domestically outside of the Paramount ecosystem since the revamped Star Trek TV universe launched with Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.

That's weird--I thought that outside the US, the current Star Trek shows are actually scattered across different streamers?

New season is out! I've only had time to watch a couple of episodes and it's pretty fun so far, although there's a fair amount of recap and setup going on in the first episode or so.
