I wrote this relatively quickly while I was tired, so it probably sucks. I'ma post it anyway, so as to force myself to finish it off in the morning. Tell me what you think.
On a cliff by the sea, a man dressed fully in white waited for divine visitation. It was early in the day, the sun having barely crept over the horizon, it's rays beginning to banish the morning mist. The man's costume seemed to light up beneath the golden morning light, giving him a practically messianic appearance. He wasn't kept waiting long – within moments, a giant silver sphere appeared on the horizon and rapidly expanded as it approached at several times the speed of sound, and as it passed above him, he was plucked from the surface of the cliff in an instant, ascending upwards into the sky in a few seconds.
Even with his accelerated perception, he had only a moment to appreciate the fractal intricacy of the construct as he passed through it, before he came to rest in the center of the device, floating in space before a young woman. She was a pale skinned bookish looking girl, with reserved brown eyes and long brown hair, slightly messy in a cute sorta way. In contrast to his own uniform of shining formal white, she'd dressed herself in a solid black set of comfortable street clothes, the whole thing looking more like a thick set of pajamas than anything else.
She turned to face him. "Good morning. To what do I owe the honor? It's not everyday I get a visit from the most powerful human being on earth."
He smiled sadly. "Second most powerful now, it looks like."
She looked away, trying to hide a frown. "Perhaps."
He sighed. "Here, let's try this over. I'm Michael, it's nice to meet you."
She turned back to face him, a sour look persisting on her delicate features. "Sophie. And it's nice to meet you too."
He smiled. "Thank you! So you wanted to know why I came out to meet you?"
She shrugs. "I can guess. You must've gotten a hint of what I was doing and come to see if you can stop me. In case it's not obvious to you yet, you can't."
He nods, smile evaporating to be replaced by a concerned look. "Yes, I know."
She turns away from, her attention falling back to a nearby screen showing a bird's eye view of the terrain below as it flies past. "Then why are you here?"
He steps forward hesitantly. "Because I had to try. Even if it is hopeless."
She turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "So you wish to fight me then?" She said, disinterestedly.
He shook his head, squaring his shoulders and straightening his spine. "No. It seems my best bet is to try and talk you out of it."
She quirks a sad smile. "Your best bet, hmm? What're the odds?" behind her, the view screen flashes blue for almost 10 seconds as they zip over an ocean.
He tried his best to appear confident. "About 3 and a half million to 1."
She leans back, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "Best get to it, then."
He takes a deep breath and tries to straighten his uniform. "Well, first can you tell me exactly what you're doing? I'm pretty sure I know most of it, but I'd like to be certain I'm clear on all the details."
She shrugs. "I manifested a few minutes ago. Got nearly complete awareness and control of everything within just over a thousand miles, and enough superintelligence to do whatever I want with it. Now I'm going to pick up every human being on earth that I judge to be decent, and who is willing to come with me, and we're going to leave this world behind. Any questions?"
