And so it begins
You can hear nothing but the wind in the trees and the crunching of snow beneath your feet as you walk the road ahead of you, the cold biting your fingers and face as you move. You where lucky in a way you suppose in that you did not encounter any storms or trolls while traversing the mountains. But it was still a hard journey. A journey that you would rather not have undertaken at all.

Not that you had much choice. Not after what happened back in Cyrodiil.

But the past is the past and is unlikely to haunt you in this land of ice and hardy people. The locals are to busy and to far removed from what happened with their own issues that even the imperial legion will care little about what you did even if they do find out.

You smile at the thought. A new start, a second chance. Not many get those.

And as you come around a corner in the path you finally see it, the land of skyrim in all its glory - snowy peaks, great forests, sprawling rivers, wide fields and far in the distance barely visible beyond the mountains the northern ocean. Its breath taking for more reasons then one and you simply stand there watching for some time before gathering yourself and continuing your journey.

As much as you like the view you would like some hot food and a warm bed better... And then to find some work. No mercenary finds fortune by staying idle!

Curious that none of the Mer are available, there a reason for that?

EDIT: Is this supposed to take place during the game?

Well two reasons realy.

First it breaks my suspension of belief that any elf would willingly head to Skyrim to try and make a living in a land where the overwhelming majority at best heavily dislikes elves and at worst are actively looking for reasons to stick you with the pointy end.

Second of all im not a huge fan of the elves and im the one who has to write the snips. :D

As for if it happens during the game... Maybe. Join in and find out.

Edit: And technicaly the orc is a mer!

As long as we don't end up being the DB...

Wouldn't mind run-ins with him/her, though.

Leoric, do any of the 'classes' actually have perks at the beginning?

Also assuming each of the 4 picks won't fight the exact same way due to gender/race/...

You will start with one perk point to spend. You will also start with +5 to the skills relevant to your starting gear(bar potions).

So a Khajiit ranger for an example with his racial bonuses and the ranger gear set will have +15 Archery, +25 sneak, +5 Alchemy, +10 One handed, +5 light armor. All other skills start at 00.

What I hope this will create is a former Imperial legion ranger, you know the guys you saw in Oblivion chasing deer. Plus it isn't that stereotypical, and for the name I am combining the fact that some Imperials have Italian style names in the Skyrim era, while most still have Romanesque.

If this is Skyrim then we need to shout from the rooftops the greatness of milk. :p

Tally updated.

Ill note that each of the race choices, even nord, comes with social (dis)advantages and expectations.

So looks like Adriano won. Edited the first post to reflect this and added skill/perk sections to the character sheet.

Now on the stamina/magicka system. The ingame one simply isnt salvagable for this quest so this is how it will work.

In combat you start with XX of XX stamina/Magicka, any action/spell you take/use will use up points. Now if you for an example go with attacking with your iron sword that will cost two points of stamina - one for attacking with your sword and one for moving rapidly in your armor(once you get the relevant perk for your armor this disapears), if you decide to power attack then the attack will cost three times the base cost of the attack. So if you decide to powerattack your 1 point for attacking will instead cost you 3 points of stamina and one for armor meaning it will cost you 4 stamina to finish your action. Now if you where using a great weapon the base cost would be two stamina points and with powerattack that would be 6 stamina points to attack. Heavy armor is the same with 2 stamina for movement rather then 1.

Now note that this is for iron/leather weapons/armor - more advanced materials and better suits of armor will have a greater stamina drain for use, and using weapons or armor of a material you have yet to unlock will double the cost of moving and attacking with them.

Also this is where bows differ from melee weapons - you do not spend any stamina points from your armor when using a bow but rather only the attack itself.

Spells on the other hand work directly on a cost basis. Cast a spell and spend the price. Novice spells have a base cost of 1(these are spells so crude even people with no education can use them), apprentice have a base cost of 4, adept have a base cost of 10, Expert have a base cost of 20 and master a base cost of 50. Some spells such as summoning or boost spells will "reserve" their casting cost of magicka points as long as the spell is active.

Now, as you level up both of these will go up both on a use basis(use one type of skill alot and the relevant point pool will increase slightly in response each level up) but you will also get the choice of sacrificing HP up to boost one of the pools by 10.

On regeneration - after each "turn" in combat you will regenerate 1 stamina and magicka point, having enchanted items may add further to this. Additionaly after each fight is over you will unless special circumstances apply(such as more enemies appearing as you finish) regenerate both pools fully. Being wounded, sick or under the effect of a spell may change this.

Also do note that if you fall under 10% HP you will be considered near death and will not be able to do anything but the simplest of actions unless saved by a friend or other outside influence. So be careful.

Edit: on request from RTM.

1.2
[X] Adriano Superbus

You adjust the bow and quiver slung across your back, tightening the strap across your chest and moving the quiver into a comfortable position. You are currently moving down the final stretch of road leading into the land of skyrim and steadily getting closer to the border station you know should be somewhere in this general area.

And lo and behold as if summoned by your thoughts you spot the border station through the space foliage of the area ahead of you and it only takes a few moments after that for you to reach it. Oddly enough it also appears to have been abandoned, the disrepair clear even with but a simple glance - the gates have started to rust and are thrown open, the thatch roof protecting the walkways above from rain and snow missing big chunks of straw and nowhere can people be seen or heard. Crossing through the gates only further reinforces this observation as you spot a note pined to one of the pillars on the other side with a chest beneath it - the message on it clear as day.

[Warning! This road is no longer being regularly patrolled or maintained due to the current situation in Skyrim! Please travel with caution as bandit activity has been noted. In the chest below you may find basic maps of Skyrim and her territories for your use.]

Bending down and opening the chest you quickly find the maps in question and grab one before heading over to a table you spotted in a corner as you entered the courtyard.

So, time to pick a destination then. You have a few choices it would appear.

The first and most clearly marked is a road leading from your current location and into the village of Helgen and from there to Riverwood and into the hub city of Whiterun. The road is partially marked as being patrolled but you suspect that it is tightly watched by both sides of the current civil war what with being the main land route from cyrodil into the heart of skyrim. There is a chance that you may run into a military patrol from either side, patrols that may ask questions you don't want to answer. Or they may mistake you for a bandit or just decide to press gang you into joining as you are a stranger to these lands.

Another option is to take the less well marked road east to a city marked as Falkreath. This road is marked with warning signs of bandit activity, always a danger in times such as these.

Or the final option where you head east through a nearby mountain pass and towards the city of Riften. This road is not marked for any special dangers but you are well aware that any journey through mountains such as these risks encounters with both mountain lions and trolls - fearsome opponents both. And you've even heard that skyrim is home to its own overgrown version of the mountain lion known locally as saber cats.

Pick Destination:
[] Helgen to Whiterun
[] Falkreath
[] Riften
