You gaze around the frozen fjörds. Why were you here…? A flash of blonde and a gorgeous smile fills your vision as your heart rate raises as you hear the roaring aircraft engines. And the trumpeting of Penguins.
Wait. Penguins?
You look around you, and find yourself sitting on a clump of snow, and you notice several other girls - ships. However, The strangest thing you find is the small black and grey chicks with white faces standing on your turrets, chirping and tilting their heads up at you in curiosity.
You remember a blonde in a Blue, red and white dress quickly wiping her eyes when she thought no one was looking and saluting as her eight naval rifles roared awake, sending you and yours into the cold depths of a harbor.
You find yourself in a frozen place, a heavy wool blanket wrapped around your shoulders and a rapidly cooling cup of hot cocoa in your hands. The smell and comfort of the blanket brings back the sights of a loving smile and red hair, and soft singing.
You find yourself in the cold waters of an ice field, the surface just above you.
As you swim to the surface to collect your surroundings, you hear a deafening roar reverberate against your hull and the sound of a strangled scream as an implosion takes place. @Scootia23
Shaking your heads, you both hear loud trumpeting and the shorter one hears a screech in her ears.
As you awaken, you notice a familiar sensation on your nose as you observe your surroundings. @Sketchy Lurker
You feel a cold shroud you as you awaken,
Finding a blanket of snow laying atop your frame.
You also hear soft whimpering, a quiet voice saying ["Oh A-Abyss, I hope t-that t-t-thing can't find me here..."]
You look around for the source of the scared voice and eventually spot a short lass with skin like the snow and hair black as coal, and wearing a swimsuit that doesn't make sense for the cold weather and waters around you, cowering in a snowbank trying to hide to her best ability.
A shiver runs down your back as you recognize her ship-type.
How did she even evade detection for so long?
You all see a short girl shaking her head and looking at a building in the distance, just barely visible in the falling snow.
"...Why am I here? Wasn't I just in Halifax…?"
Even as another lass with her head in the proverbial clouds drifts into view.
"Eh? How did I end up here? I don't remember wandering that far away from Мама Орискани for my mission, and it's far too cold for Мама here… I better find out where I am to get home..."
Both girls flinch as a horrifying roar can be heard as it echoes across the snowy landscape.
"Oh heck why are we here?!" The brunette muttered fearfully under her breath, and suddenly put her hands to her ears, a pair of headphones materializing on her ears as her face paled.
The Baralong thinks for a moment about telling Bluebell about the whole... being a Q-Ship thing, but quickly decides against it. Bluebell doesn't need to know yet. Besides, anyone could be around, keeping the guns hidden is the entire point!
"Oi, Bluey, any suggestions for which way we should go? " She asks, with an undercurrent of worry.
Looking around, the Baralong can faintly see other ships in the distance... She bangs on her rigging a bit, causing a panel to open, she reaches inside, taking out... Binoculars?
She uses them to try getting a better look at whoever is in the distance.
She mutters something about "hopefully friendly vessels".
Bluebell's face scrunches up in slight disgust at the Red, White and Black standard, before smiling with forgotten familiarity as she gazes at the others herself. "Most of them are." She says, before she shakes her head with confusion.
Bluebell softly grips Baralongs hand, pulling her behind her.
"You're not the first, and probably not the last, but almost two years ago a small group of shipgirls self-summoned off the coast of Greenland and supported the evacuation of the last hold-out before booking it to Belfast." Haida starts, looking up at Galveston. "They had a few memories gone as well. After that, things...changed. Ships that never existed or weren't completed in our history, as designed, conversion or otherwise. Something big is happening. I can feel that the war has to be over soon and we'll finally get some actual answers." She finishes, rubbing her ear.
"Yeah, you're fine. It's fascinating to meet an airship..." I add.
Galveston tilts her head seemingly in thought after she examines your face closely. "Quite alike, though Flori has a sterner looking face," she says after some time.
Galveston tightens her hold on Haida's hand in acknowledgment of what she said as well as to get her to talk.
"Well, Florida is her class leader. Only makes sense for some facial features to be similar." Haida muses absentmindedly, looking in the Maple Leaf Carrier's direction with her face in a mix of a variety of emotions.
Galveston finally tore her attention away from Haida and Shinano to stare intently at you, her eyes shining with recognition. "I thought you sounded familiar. How did you end up here? Your mother and father have been looking for you for months now маленькое вишневое дерево." Galveston said, taking on a strangely familiar and warm tone.
Quebec waved back at the airship, feeling the edge of her lips quirk up as she approached. The Destroyer seemed friendly enough, and maybe could help her get her bearings. The whole part about having a human body was not exactly something that she remembered doing, especially counting the little that she actually did remember. The flag definitely meant that at least the Destroyer was friendly to her. Plus, the orange hair and yellow eyes seemed familiar somehow, even if she couldn't place a name on the look. Perhaps getting a name could help her remember. She briefly glanced around herself, finding the penguins dutifully escorting her, as if her escorts. A giggle escaped her lips, giving them a few more headpats before she judged herself close enough to hear.
She looked at the airship and destroyer, feeling the smile still on her lips. "Hello! Who may you two be?"
"Hello there I'm USS Galveston, United States Navy," Galveston says as she frees her hand from Haida and nudges her friend forwards with a little force.
"Gah! Galvie!" Haida squeaks out.
"You were just going to stand there otherwise Haida, now go talk to her," Galveston said.
"The fact I haven't done anything yet should be evidence I haven't thought up a way to deal with a proper Fleet Carrier flying my nation's flag!" Haida argues. Before promptly mumbling something about adorably dense Airships not fully understanding the machinations of a Destroyer's mind. Sighing and looking away from her friend and towards Quebec, raising her hand in a salute. "Howdy. I'm gonna probably have to do this again later, so for now, I'm HMCS Haida. I'll expand on the rest later since frozen gun-mounts and crews aren't conducive to our long-term - ...or short term, for that matter… - survival." She says, before slowly ushering you and the curious Adelies along. "Shinano, Head for that flag over there!" Haida points to a tattered flag. "I doubt anyone will be there, but the base should give us a break from the weather should the blizzards start back up anytime soon." She says before grabbing Galveston's hand as an anchor and jogging off to corral the other ships in this small task force.
"Oi! You four!" The small auburn haired destroyer that had tackled Piorun earlier, whisper shouts as she drags a hoveringsilverette behind her. "We're getting out of the open before whatever makes that noise shows up and before the storms start back up. Y'all should at the least, understand that your guns icing up equals bad things for your stability." The destroyer warns
"Your honorary Texan is showing Haida," Galveston teased, paying only some calculating attention to who the destroyer was addressing.
"Yeah, yeah...Say, Galvie? My RADAR operator is warning me of thirteen surface ships of varying sizes. Can you float up and see if you can spot the other eleven? I think I see two." Haida asks, looking up at her friend.
"I could but you'd have to let me fly Haida to spot them all," Galveston confirmed.
"Heck, I'll let you go collect them if you promise to make it back to me." Haida says, letting go of her friend's hand.
"If that's what you want," Galveston said, before rising into the air and beginning her search for the ships her friend asked her to find and retrieve while the destroyer went off to some other group.
It didn't take long for the airshipgirl to spot the scattered ships that Haida's radar had detected. Two in particular were the farthest out and her first targets to herd back to the rally point with the added bonus of picking up a third ship close by.
The two of you see a silverette floating above you, a white star roundel sewn onto her bomber jacket.
"Hello down there, are you in need of assistance? It's not safe to stay here" the silverette called out as she hovered unsure of whether or not you would believe her on their location's safety.
As you head toward the unknown you make out a girl overlapping a particularly large but hazy airship floating in the air near the two ships closest to you, while further in the distance you can see a destroyer whose class is familiar to you but not immediately ringing any bells for you making high speeds to a group of ships spontaneously appearing as if summoned by something.
A cruiser and five destroyers show up on the edge of an island with little indication of how or why they were there.
"Hey, you six!" An auburn-haired girl calls out while walking over to you. "I'm Haida, we're going to have to-" She starts, before being cut off by a loud roar reverberating across the bay.
Three large spikes trace after what seems to be a large Battleship, breaking a path through the ice shelf until the creature leaps out of the frigid waters, revealing a crocodilian head on a large, hydrodynamic body.
With a snap of it's jaws, the eight escorts and two submarines hear the loud screech of metal shearing as the monster rips a part of the Battleship's stern off, leaving a ragged mess as the monster dives into the depths.
(End Milwaukee, I-402 and Deutschland's range earshot)
Haida shakes her head as if to banish some stray thoughts and looks at the group. "Better that Abyssal than us, I don't know what the heckthat thing was, but we need to get inside before ice forms in our guns leaving us completely defenceless. C'mon, follow me." She says, waving a hand to follow her.
As you approach the base, the listing flag becomes clearer.
A tattered flag of 13 stripes and 60 stars flutters defiantly in the wind.
"Welcome to McMurdo Station, castaways." Haida muses, after looking around at the assortment of buildings for a moment. "If we're lucky, there'll still be usable supplies here. If not, we're screwed until we can get a signal out and deal with those monsters out prowling the bay."
Even as she says this, you all began to feel hundreds of eyes upon you, watching, analyzing.
One collective blink, and a tall woman in a black shoulderless dress with hair as black as the night stands ahead of you seemingly waiting for you inside the base's confines, beckoning you and Haida in.
"...Well then, I'll explain what I am later, but I suppose I should give my name again before we follow the strange lady," Haida starts, clearing her throat. "I'm Lt. Haida, Royal Canadian Navy. Until we hit home waters, I'll be your acting CO. Once we arrive in said waters, your nation will choose how to divide up rank and file." Haida says, before shaking her hand that was once again keeping her Airborne friend grounded. "This is Lt. Galveston."
Galveston for her part merely stares at the woman in the distance.
