Seizansha: How Do I Survive Highschool With Voices In My Head?

Ohhhhhh! Okok! I don't think I have though. I'm planning for Yu to develop based on their experiences/yall's influence and stuff :0
You guys find out more about them like their talents, traits, etc as the story goes on
I know the conversation has moved on from here, but I feel like I should elaborate a bit more in the whole line of discussion from @We Just Write and I. Some semi-relevant stuff involving deep brain-weirdness follows that some folks may not care about, but others may find interesting.

Okay, first off I would like to make it absolutely crystal clear that We Just Write were genuinely, completely seriously, attempting to offer Yu a path through the fourth wall and full headmate status in your brain, if they were already close enough to that status to meaningfully want such a thing. Which probably sounds ridiculous since it sounds like your writing process is not one that involves perceptable independence from characters. This is (genuinely, out of character, I don't think I can make it more clear that this is a non-fictional thing happening in reality) a plausible thing to do and plausible way of doing it, at least for some brains. I kind of wish there was a word that meant "memetic hazard" but with a neutral rather than negative connotation, because it would fit nicely.

The underlying mechanism is pretty much as they describe. But I'd like to elaborate on it a bit. First off, a large part of the mental stuff we most associate with being a person, like consciousness and identity, seems to basically be your brain learning to model its own behavior to better understand and regulate that behaviour, using tools closely related to the ones it uses to model external people. This can lead to some interesting situations if the brain models disctinct clusters of it's behaviour seperately, or builds up a persistent predictive model of another brain, real or fictional, which starts to model itself more than its source. You can probably imagine how some authors would have that incidentally happen, and how self-referential or meta works of fiction might be unusually prone to it.

As for why they thought to do this... I can't answer for them. But I can say that works that have the readers interacting with a character like this often have pretty much exactly the same vibes from an outside perspective as the situation We Just Write thought this was, and provide the opportunity to act on it. So it's perhaps less "let's do weird life-altering (pun intended) brain hacking to an unsuspecting forum person", and more "this may be a mental entity that is well on their way to personhood but isolated from the real world and not aware of their situation. If so, let's give them a way to escape and develop from there." Maybe take it as a compliment that your writing is good enough that Yu seems pretty persony?

As for evidence that this is a thing that even exists at all, I know there are at least a few plural systems here om SV that have at least some members formed this way. You might find some of them in the SV plural thread. there is also a surprisingly large body of research on pluralish experiences authors have, though not generally talked about in terms that take it seriously or treat it as related to plurality. Here's one good example. It turns out that independent behaviour from characters is very common. Beyond that, we are always happy to answer questions.

OH! Okay, I understand way better now ^^ I know atleast one or two people who are also a plural system but we don't really talk about it. I don't think that Yu is a mental entity so I'll take the compliment, thanks! It helps quell a bit of my worries of Yu not coming off as someone people can feel like they know irl/can relate to because I make more of them up as we go and I'm glad(?)/pleasantly surprised to hear that they really come off as the socially awkward but still endearing teen I picture them to be to yalls ^^

[X] [HIJACK] This is an Anti-Hijack vote, Yu's hair shall remain still and not be shifting at the moment.
Gods be damned, people leave their body alone for at least a single chapter.

Oh yeah, it doesn't have to be this exact next chapter haha! Just any one update. But we'll see, we'll see..

This feels like me putting a shiny button and being all "No touchy button" and then there's a fight between those that want to touch and those that don't.

Anyways, questions are welcome so I can know what else to add to the FAQ

TOUCH DA BUTTON!

True. Speak commands are the ones yalls can do multiple times :p, just have that in mind. It'll be in effect after the next update

[X][HIJACK] Hair - Noclip Yu's hair into non-euclidean space in an imitation of an ever-spiraling whirlpool of keratin and displaced air (cause it rhymes with hair)

[X][SPEAK] Man oh man looks like there is a eldrich wresling competition for the control of your hair. The 2 factions involved are pro and anti hair haijack. *Piledriver* Ohh... that must have hurt glad that I translated that from 420 dimensions to only 3 dimensions for you to see. Well executed moves like that are a joy to watch. Anyways I know you are more artsy person but do you have any intrest in watching wresling and the like?

I am quite sure that hijack wouldn't work, but I'll just put down a hijack against it... I am going to be happy when everyone has just a single hijack vote.
[X][HIJACK] Dimensional shenanigans are not allowed, The hair remains where it was.

Hijacks are...Just contolling Yu's body. Not exactly dissallowing/allowing dimensional shenanigans :0 you can just counter that one with a nope like some did

Think of it like puppeteering

Guys I advocate for
[X] Megane And Kako
I mean this way we can have a commentator on the background Eldritch slapfighting. Just think about it.

Well Megane can see us with his aura sight and the juxtaposition of Yu just sitting there calmly while we have cataclysmic cat fight in the background is a funny image for me.

:0 Well Megane technically can. He can't see your aura clearly because it's very overwhelming but he'd feel the shifting and stuff. And would notice that you're involved somehow. Still, good idea :D

Edit: Background events are one of the most important parts of this quest yalls, trust me XD
