there are ways for them to get back, for starters we're not the only person with space travel anymore, some other king could try and recruit them (I'm not saying that's a good idea but it could happen) or some random explorer could get their ship stolen.
not to mention how the hell did they get down here to begin with? they weren't on the surface when the shattering happened so something must have brought them down.
