Character Sheets
Read this first: Stats are basically self-explanatory. They are what their name is, below is just a detailed guide. An average adult has 40-50. Stat points are used for everything but age (which can be whatever).

Age: How old you are.

Mage Rank: Determined by how many stat points you have in combat.
D: 4, C: 8, B: 13, A: 18, AA: 24, AAA: 30, S: 38, SS: 60, SSS: 100
This includes gear and traits, so they may have a higher or lower rank than their stats may suggest.

Mana Capacity Rank: How much mana you can store and channel. Only canon characters with confirmed numbers on this are Nanoha and Fate, both AAA. You need at least rank B to potentially fly. This is the one stat that cannot change after character generation.

Combat: HP, Melee, Ranged, Speed, Shields stats. These are used for fighting. 1 stat point equals five combat points, which then can be split into any combat stat. HP is 50 per stat point instead. 10 (100 HP) is average (C ranked) TSAB officer, which means they on average have 10 points in Combat. Flight in combat correlates to at least 20 Speed. Note: This is while using one's preferred weapon type, so ex. a army man might have 3 Ranged as default due to being skilled with a gun, or Nanoha's Melee is how good she is with a normal staff and her Ranged is how good she is at shooting magic without RH.

Martial: How good you are at strategy, tactics, and leading in battle. 10 is average army officer.

Leadership: How good you are at management, leading a group, and running an organization. 10 is average business manager/leader.

Charisma: How good you are at getting other people to like you and do what you want. 10 is average popular person. 5 and below means you are instantly unlikable.

Technology: How good you are with using, understanding, building, and modifying technology. 10 is average teen, 15 is you could work in IT. 5 and below means you can just barely use technology but need tech support a lot.

Magical Skill: How good you are at magic. 10 is average civilian mage.

Learning: How fast you are at learning and understanding new things, as well as general academic knowledge. The 'intelligence' stat. 10 is average person. 20 is 'genius' (significantly above peers) in one or two things.

How stats are used: When doing an action, you roll a D20 + the relevant stat to see if it is a success, depending on how difficult that action is. Rolling a 1 or a 20 gives an additional bad or good result respectfully, but whether the action succeeds or not is not affected, so you can succeed in an action with a 1 if your stat is high enough but there will be a negative consequence.

Combat is an exception that has a more complicated system.

He doesn't like the Wolkenritter, seeing them as violent, and that they're training the children to be child soldiers. He often sides with Yashima on things because of this. However, he does like Hayate so when it doesn't have to do with violence he goes with what she says.

Preparing for School I
AN: I had only realized I had written this chapter in third person partway through, so does anyone actually care whether this story is in second person or third? If not I'll just keep it as third person.

Hayate sits down in a bench in a park, ignoring the snow around her. She looks up at the sky and sighs.

"What's wrong?" A dark haired woman asks, walking up to her. Hayate doesn't recognize her.

"Oh, nothing."

"I don't think it's nothing."

"Just… politics." Put in another position she isn't sure is best for her. She feels like powerful mages like herself are just a tool to be moved around.

"Politics? Getting fed up with the local representatives?"

"No, not that kind. I mean in the, uh, company I work at." She really shouldn't tell this stranger her problems; magic is kept a secret from Earth for a reason. "I feel like I could be doing so much more."

"Maybe you should then. Don't let them tell you what to do, just go to a different company and work there instead."

Different company? If only. The TSAB is the only magical government, and she certainly isn't going to give up magic. "I don't think that's an option. It's rather… unique."

"Are you sure? You said you feel like you could be doing more. Maybe that more is outside your company."

"I want to help people. This is the best way I can." She was helped by Nanoha and Fate who were in the TSAB, so she wants to do the same. It's only right.

"There are always other ways to help people, sweetie. You could always become a volunteer at some third world country, that's helping people. They lack the technology, medical care, and conveniences we have. Or if you want to stay here you could become a teacher. That way you're educating the next generation."

A country that lacks the technology, medical care, and conveniences that we do. That sounds… like the entire Earth, actually. Hayate frowns; is it really so bad? But there are good reasons not to tell Earth about magic, right? They're not prepared for it. "Couldn't giving technology to places that aren't prepared for it bad? Like if they get nuclear weapons and start blowing each other up."

"Honey, that ain't gonna happen. They are getting medical care and modern technology, it helps them. Weapons are bad no matter the scale, but the good does more than the bad."

Would magic do the same? It does have benefits like healing and transportation and being able to get resources from other worlds, but it can be dangerous as well. That's why the Bureau banned mass weapons… but wait. Earth already uses mass weapons, would magic weapons actually be an improvement? She herself may have the power of a nuclear bomb, but one that leaves no radiation behind. As she learned in training for high command, normal mages can shoot nonlethally, ending battles with few casualties.

That's… better. There isn't really any downside to introducing magic other than initial panic, she thinks. But how to stop people from panicking? The woman mentioned teaching, maybe she introduces it to a small group?

"I see your point. I think I'm going to do both."

"Both?"

"Go to a third world country and teach. I think I'll start here in Japan."

"It's almost 2013; Japan ain't a third world country, sweet heart."

"Thanks for the talk." Hayate stands up and holds her necklace out: Schwertkreuz's standby form. "Transporter."

The woman steps back and gasps as a magic circle forms around Hayate's feet and she disappears several seconds later. Hayate pauses two seconds later; she forgot to ask for that woman's name!

Hayate spends the next few days thinking. She wouldn't quit her job after just one conversation, of course. However, she decides it's the right thing to do. No one should have to live their lives crippled by injuries like she had. She is going to become a teacher on Earth. Now she only needs to tell her family and the TSAB about it.

"Our vacation is almost over. We only have a few days until we're back on duty," Rein reminds everyone.

"Ah, whatever. It's not like we need to prepare." Vita lounges on the couch, drinking soda.

"There's something I need to tell you," Hayate says. She has made up her mind. "I think I'm going to quit the TSAB."

"What!" Vita spittakes.

"I've been thinking. I can do a lot of good working with the TSAB, but my magic isn't really good in direct combat, but just going into high command feels like a waste of my magic abilities."

"So what are going going to do instead?" Zafira calmly asks.

"I'm going to be a teacher. On Earth."

"You mean you'll be teaching magic to Earth. You know the consequences." Shamal intuits.

"We'll resign from the Bureau tomorrow then," Signum states.

"What? You don't have to give up your careers just because I'm switching."

"We are your Wolkenritter. We follow you." Zafira gets up from his position on the floor and starts walking to her.

"Yeah! You know we'll go with you whatever you do. We're your family." Vita stands up.

"Thanks." Hayate smiles.

"So what are you doing back on the Arthra so early?" Chrono asks Hayate.

"I'm resigning," Hayate, holding her resignation papers.

"You what?"

"I'm resigning."

"Why? And–I'm not the person you'd give those to. That's a paperwork thing. Why would you quit the TSAB?"

"I know, I'm going there after, I just wanted to tell you first, since I work under you after all. I'm quoting because I don't think they make the best use of my talents. I'm going to teach Earth magic."

"You know why that isn't a good idea."

"No, it's not. It's a great idea. Earth would be so much better with magic."

Chrono gives her a measuring gaze. "I'll trust you know what you're doing." Chrono nods to her, then walks on.

Hayate, wearing her suit, walks into MEXT Headquarters, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology for Japan.

"Hello. I have an appointment with the Minister."

The secretary looks up suspiciously at Hayate. "You look a little young to be meeting with the minister."

"I have an appointment. I am Yagami Hayate." Hayate repeats herself. The secretary looks in her book then nods, pointing at the elevator. Hayate walks in, and a few minutes later arrives in an office.

"Honorable Yanase Ukyo. It's a pleasure to meet you." Hayate shakes the minister's hand, then they both sit down. She had called earlier, and after several false starts finally convinced him to meet with her, promising something that would need to be taken care of by that high of a position.

"I believe you said you needed to show me something before we could start?"

"Yes, but to start, I should tell you what it is. I have magic."

Yanase frowns. "I have no time for practical jokes…" he trails off. Rein floats next to Hayate. "Is that a fairy?"

"I am Reinforce the Blessed Wind, a Unison Device meant to synchronize with a mage to help her control and boost her magic." Rein answers.

"I'm what is known as a mage: a person capable of powerful magical feats. Mages on Earth are rare, I only know of one who permanently lives here, though I and some of my friends were born here. Which is why I would like to open up a school, for magic."

"What exactly is this 'magic' capable of? And why are you doing this now?" Yanase barely perceptively eagerly smiles.

"I realized how Earth could be much better if it had access to magic, which can do so many wonderful things. I did grow up here after all. Rein?"

"Right!" Rein casts a spell, making a screen appear in the air. On it is a video of one of Nanoha's training practices with Fate. It then switches to Yuuno in the infinite library, holding up and reading several books at once while organizing the shelves. Next it switches to Shamal healing dozens of patients at a time, with, what would be in Japan, career-ending injuries.

"Hmm." He smiles. "So you want to open up a school, then?"

"Yes. I'm thinking a Junior High, because it's best to start young, but they're old enough to grasp it then. I started at nine, myself, but that was a… special case."

"You look like you just got out of Junior High yourself."

"I did, but my education in the TSAB would be more equivalent to lower-college level."

"And how good at magic are you?"

[] Answer that she is weaker than Nanoha due to control issues, but don't mention her power.
[] Say about as strong as Nanoha.

"I see. So you want my support in making your school?"

"Yes. I'd like to make it a public school."

He leans back in his chair and taps his fingers against his desk, deep in thought. Hayate fidgets nervously; it wasn't so long ago that she was a girl in a wheelchair, who wouldn't even be glanced at by someone so important. Her time in the TSAB has helped, but she isn't known as Yagami Hayate, ace and possible future admiral, here, she's Yagami Hayate that-crippled-girl-who-disappeared-for-five-years.

"That will work. The Shimogyō Ward in Kyoto recently had an influx of student aged children, compared to the decline everywhere else. We were going to just increase class sizes, but you can put your school there, you have my official support. Parents in the area will have the option of having their students go there after primary school this year. I'll start making arrangements, it should be ready by the start of the school year."

"Thank you, Minister Yanase. I won't disappoint."

The next month is a whirlwind of activity and decisions. The ministry may be handling the normal school items, but she still needs to get the magic ones.

"I'd like to order a delivery of fifty printed copies of 'An Introduction to Magical Theory and Spells' shipped to Earth, non-administered world #97."

"You want a delivery to earth? The ground?"

"No, Earth. Non-administered world #97." Hayate says exasperatedly, but tries not to let's it show on her face. Apparently companies aren't used to delivering to non-administered worlds, and this one doesn't seem to even understand the concept.

"Ooh. Well you should have started with that! We don't typically ship to far out worlds like that."

Charisma: 4 + 12 = 16, Req 20: Failure

"Your advertisement said you ship anywhere," Hayate counters.

"That's not official policy. You'll have to pick it up yourself."

"I-" the phone hangs up. Hayate sighs, resigning herself to collect the books herself. She can get them all in one go now anyways.

What types of books do you buy? Hayate and the Wolkenritter mainly use ancient Belkan, but know some spells of both the others.
[] Mainly ancient Belkan. It heavily focuses on war, especially melee fighting.
[] Mainly modern Belkan. It is focused on melee fighting.
[] Mostly Midchildan. It is the most practical for daily life, and the most versatile, and in battle mainly focuses on ranged fighting.

-1 resource used for renting a ship.

"We'll have to set up a testing for prospective students," Shamal suggests to Hayate.

"What?"

"If we're teaching magic, we should make sure they can actually do it first. I can determine their Linker Core strength, with… you know."

"Right." She hadn't thought about that. Everyone she knows is exceptionally powerful, but not everyone can even do magic, and in a magic school those who are weak would fall behind. Still, it feels a little exclusionary to simply ban students who want to learn.

Will you accept all students, or test them for a minimal Mana Capacity Rank?
[] Accept all students.
[] Test them first.
-[] Minimum of E.
-[] Minimim of D. (This is the lowest most members of the TSAB are.)
-[] Minimum of C.
-[] Minimum of B. (This is the lowest those who can fly are.)
[] Write-in

"Now, Hayate, I believe you had mentioned our last meeting about people on planets other than Earth." Yanase leans forward in his chair.

"Yes, there are other dimensions that you can travel through using magic. The Time Space Administration Bureau polices it, though each planet has control of its internal affairs."

"Would it be possible to contact them?"

"Yes, but they don't like to interfere with non-magical planets, especially not ones without a world government. I, uh, technically shouldn't even be starting a magic school here."

"I see. Would they be more amenable to speaking with the future graduates of your school?"

"Probably? Once magic is more common, yes."

"Hmm." He leans back. "Perhaps you should consider teaching students their lingua franca instead of English. Contact with whole new worlds could be useful."

"They do have automatic translator spells, that's how I spoke when I first joined them, but… I'll consider it."

What foreign language will you teach?
[] English.
[] Midchildan.

What foreign language will you teach?
[] English. It's the standard for most Japanese schools.
[] Midchildan. It's the standard language for interdimensional space, so you could get a special exemption for your school to teach it instead.

Please only do write-ins if it's listed as an option.

AN: Hayate's thoughts in the beginning are canon btw, she briefly mentions them in the StrikerS manga. The main point of divergence here is she had the conversation at the start and decided to change career paths. Well, that and the fact she never moved to Midchilda.

Preparing for School II
Hayate walks into a lightly lit room. Six people sit in chairs at the table in front of her: the local Board of Education. She respectfully bows then takes the chair in front of her.

"Why have you called me in today?" Hayate asks, getting right to the point. They had demanded she come in alone, so except for Shamal watching with her Mirror of Prospection, she is alone. As she was hired directly by the minister, there shouldn't have been need for this.

"We are concerned about this, 'school of magic' you have," the chairman replies, sitting at the head of the table.

"What are your concerns?"

"Magic isn't real," one of the board dismisses her with a wave of his hand. "You are harming the minds of the next generation."

"That's… do you want me to prove it?"

"How are you going to do that?" A third board member replies. Hayate stands up.

"Schwertkreuz, set up." In a flash of light Hayate's suit is gone, replaced by a yellow and black dress with a white coat over it. "Sleipnir." Four black wings sprout from her back, and she begins to float.

"How… how are you doing that?" The second one to speak asks.

"Magic." Hayate softly smiles. "This, among many other things, is what I'll be teaching the students at my school." She releases the spell and her Barrier Jacket, returning to her suit and falling to the ground.

"Hmph, cheap trick doesn't last very long," one mutters.

"It lasts however long I want it to," Hayate corrects.

Charisma: 2 + 12 = 14, Req 15, 20, 30: Failure, they don't like you very much

"That is proof enough," he chairman says. "You have the support of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, so you will be allowed to continue your little experiment, but when it fails we will have to pick up the pieces. Leave now."

"Okay." Hayate stops herself from saying more, simply bowing then leaving. She knew there would be resistance when she started, she can deal with it.

"Hello?" A woman walks into the room, a girl on crutches coming in beside her.

"Come in. You're the first to arrive," Shamal says. It is the day they assigned to test all the students who requested to come for magic.

"I'm Takanashi. This is my daughter, Takanashi Tori. I will say I'm a little confused on what you are doing today."

"Hello," Hayate responds. "Everyone has a metaphysical organ called a Linker Core. These can have differing amounts of mana particles, the basic energy used for magic. Shamal is a doctor who has a spell to determine the Mana Capacity Rank of someone to ensure they are strong enough to learn magic."

Shamal points her hand at Tori, a celadon triangle appearing in front of her hand, going forward and increasing in size as it passes over the girl.

Takanashi looks worried at this. "So if this 'spell' says my daughter is too weak she can't go to your school? I trusted that this was legit, being backed by the government, but if-"

"She's ranked D. That's fine," Shamal interrupts, looking at a screen in the air in front of her.

"It was that quick?"

"Yes. Your daughter been accepted." Hayate smiles. "I have to ask though, is your daughters leg broken?"

"Yes, why?" She frowns at Hayate.

"Magic is far superior at healing than normal technology. If you come in later, I can heal her leg in a matter of hours." Shamal offers.

"Really? Let's do it then," Tori says. Her mother glances at her, but agrees.

"Alright. We'll be going then."

"We'll see you soon." They leave, and as they are walking out the door a young boy runs in, accidentally hitting into Tori but ignoring it.

"Hey! Test me, test me! I want to do magic!" He yells while running up to Shamal.

"And who are you?"

"I'm Kamiya Genpaku! I'm going to become the most powerful wizard of all!"

"Mage," Hayate absentmindedly corrects. "He's on the list even if his parents aren't here. What's his rank Shamal?"

She casts the spell. "F. He doesn't have enough magic to even make a glow."

"What? Do it again. I wanna be a wizard like Harry Potter!"

"Where are your parents?" Hayate asks him.

"Working! I'm going here all by myself. Give me magic!"

"I'm afraid you cannot go to school here," Shamal tells him. He frowns and runs at her, but a simple shield blocks him and pushes him away. He frowns and stomps away.

"I wish we didn't have to do things like that." Hayate says softly.

"Not everyone has magic. It is inherently unequal." Shamal then sits down, waiting for the next appointment to come. They spend a long day testing dozens of people.

Hayate sits at her desk, staring at sheets of paper. Six people can't teach an entire school, even if it has few students. The Board of Education hired several teachers–all of them male–to work at her school, and she doesn't even recognize any of them.

"Hata Omezo: Japanese teacher, Yashima Masayoshi: Social studies teacher, Uyemura Kentaro: Music and Arts teacher, Nomi Gempachi: Industrial Arts teacher, Fujioka Takamuku: Integrated Study/Comprehensive Learning Activities," she reads aloud. There isn't even much information about each person, just some basic background that tells not much more than the subject they teach. The only thing she was allowed to choose is who the homeroom teachers are.

Who will be the two homeroom teachers?
[] Write-in homeroom teacher 1.

"So what kind of devices are you going to buy everyone?" Vita asks.

"Hmm?" Hayate looks over, juggling pots and pans.

"For the students. Are you getting them Armed or Storage Devices?"

"Storage Devices are typical and help with the processing of magic, Intelligent Devices have AIs so can work as teachers, and Armed Devices work best as weapons," Hayate considers. "They each have advantages, though I don't want to turn my students into an army."

Shamal, from the opposite side of the room, responds, "Devices are expensive and typically not given to students right away. You and Nanoha are special cases. I don't think we have enough funds to give all of them one."

"Hayate could figure it out," Vita dismisses.

Do you get Devices for each student?
[] No devices their first year. They can't be trusted to use them/are not able to handle them/it is too expensive.
[] Get a device for each student.
-[] Storage Devices. (4 resources each, around 160 total)
-[] Intelligent Devices. (6 each, around 240 total)
-[] Armed Devices (5 each, around 200 total)
[] Get a few training devices for everyone to share. (20 resources)
[] Have building their device be part of the curriculum. (2 each, around 80 total.)

If you do get devices for every student, how will you get the funding for it?
[] Ask Minister Yanase for the funding. (Charisma roll Req 30 for it)
[] Have the students/parents have to pay for it. If they don't have the money they can't get one. (Note: A device costs about as much as a car.)
-[] Use your personal money in addition to school money to help pay part of the cost. (Writing in specific amount is optional)

Hayate stands next to Signum on a metal platform. Administered world #25, it's the closest inhabited world to Earth so she had rented a ship here. She walks by multiple ships until she finds the one that matches the keys she was given: a small cargo transport, just large enough to fit two people and some stuff.

"This is it," she tells Signum.

"Right."

They wall in through the automatic door and head to the cockpit. Hayate turns it on and enters the coordinates for Administered world #34, where the school supplies were made. The ship enters dimensional space.

A few hours later they arrive on the planet. Taking the supplies is a short affair, since they were already laid out, and within six hours of setting out they are back on Earth. Landing the ship on the field next to the school, it's quick to simply push the boxes into the school.

"That was fast." Hayate remarks.

"We still need to return the ship," Signum tells her.

"Right, let's get this over with." Hayate begins walking back to the ship.

The next day, Hayate's phone rings. "Yagami Hayate here."

"Yagami, why did you bring a spaceship to your school?" Yanase asks.

"I needed school supplies for teaching magic. I'm surprised you noticed though. It was during night and the ship wasn't all that large."

He sighs. "Truthfully I would have dismissed it if I didn't know you were actually teaching magic and had contact with other worlds. Just… don't do it again."

"Right."

Hayate stands in front of the school building: Rising Stars Academy. It is large, almost ten meters tall and having two floors and a basement. A large field lies next to it, wider than the building itself. While less people than she expected applied for and were accepted–only fourty-one students–it is a start, and school will still start soon. Then everything will be different.

"Looking at the new school, eh?" An old European looking man walks up to Hayate, holding a gnarled walking stick but hardly using it. "I heard they're going to be teaching some newfangled magic thing. They discover new things every day, I suppose. Even old things."

"Hello," Hayate says, not quite sure how to respond. Does he know she is the principal of the new school? Probably not, she guesses.

"Why, back in my day they wouldn't even consider making a school. It was all apprentices this and apprentices that, ya need ta learn a craft."

"Okay?" That can't possibly be true. Well, maybe there's some rural area like that.

"I think I'll start this occasion with a poem. It should be fitting.

Once the arcane became science,
knowledge spread across the world.
They created many an appliance,
ancient scrolls were never unfurled.
Now with this a new age has come
whence rising stars impel nations to succumb.

"Well, I'll be off. Good luck running that school!" He turns away, walking briskly and humming an odd tune. He holds his walking stick in the air, barely using it.

Hayate shakes her head out. Did he know about magic? But… his poem didn't explicitly say anything about magic. If anything it was telling of the virtues of science, then just said her school was important. He was just strange, she decides. Who randomly makes up poems and tells them to people?

It's probably not that important anyways.

AN: I have made a character sheet for every student. I have to say I am very glad I know Basic programming because otherwise randomly generating so many numbers would be annoying.

Notes: She had a broken leg but Shamal heals it when testing if she has magic/first day of school. She is very self-sufficient and likes keeping things organized, but is also bossy. She wants to go into business when she grows up.
Her mother was initially skeptical about magic but thought if it was true it could help Tori from getting behind due to her injury.

Notes: She is often called a genius by her friends and brother, with good reason. She is a nerd and almost is a shut-in, spending much of her time playing strategy video games.

"As you are all aware, this school is meant to teach magic," Hayate begins. As part of the first staff meeting, she decided to explain to the teachers her goal here. "Magic is commonly practiced on other worlds. Although I came from Earth, I learned this magic from the Wolkenritter, who are not from Earth and eventually decided to teach magic to Earth, starting small."

"So you're saying there are other planets? Those four are aliens? I don't believe it." Yashima Masayoshi, one of the new teachers, says. He has brown hair and is rangy.

"Not aliens, alternate dimensions. They are human. Anyways, I'd like to teach the students in this school magic. I think it's a wonderful way to introduce magic to Earth in a way that doesn't cause global panic."

Charisma: 19 + 12 = 31, Req 15, 30 = Well liked

"Well, I think I like you. That's a great scam, tricking kids into learning 'magic'." Masayoshi smirks.

"Hey! Hayate wouldn't scam people! You take that back or I'll show you how real magic is!" Vita yells.

"Oh look, it's the child. Go back to elementary school, adults are talking."

"I'm older than you!"

"Calm down, I'm sure Yashima meant no offense to Miss Yagami." Hata Omezo, another new teacher, says in a calming voice.

"This has got out of hand, if Omezo has to intervene. Miss Yagami, although you are quite idealistic, maybe it's best that you aren't in a leadership position. You clearly can't control your teachers, so I'd make a much better principal." Nomi Gempachi says. "You could take a class yourself then."

"That's a great idea," Masayoshi says, "we should take it to the board of education."

"You will do no such thing. This school is Hayate's, not yours. I can make sure of it." Signum brandishes her sword for a moment, before putting it back in storage.

Uyemura Kentaro frowns. "Don't bring a sword here, please. This is a place of learning! I don't agree with Gempachi, and I think Hayate's youthful spirit is great for her job, intimidation is not the way to go."

"I agree. Masayoshi and Gempachi, please stop your scheming. You know the Board of Education wouldn't accept your request unless they really hated her."

Hayate stays silent on that point. "I think we should move on, then. This is a school, and we do have things to discuss."

Still, she can't help but notice Fujioka was silent during that argument.

Otsu nervously walks into the gym. The entrance ceremony is going to start in about fifteen minutes, but she doesn't know anyone here! The sign says they can sit anywhere they want–it's a pretty big gym for not a lot of people–so she has to find someone, quick, before everyone sits down.

She can hear others talking around her.

"These uniforms are so cute!" One says.

"Yeah they have a less strict dress code too." Another responds.

Some guy says, "This school sucks, dude."

"Then why'd you go here, moron?"

Otsu walks forward, looking for someone not talking to someone else. That brunette over there! She looks nice. Otsu walks up to her. "Hey, I'm Otsu."

"Um. Hi? I'm Poemu." Poemu gives Otsu a calculating gaze. She ignores it.

"Let's sit down!"

"Okay."

Otsu drags Poemu over to a seat on the bleachers, being some of the first few to sit down. "So what made you want to go to this school?"

"It seemed more advantageous than other schools. It has magic."

"That's a good reason. I was just like wow I always wanted magic and this is magic you know? The principal looks really young do you think she's a magical girl or something?"

Poemu pauses for a moment. "Unlikely. We do not live in an anime."

"But there's magic! You went to get tested and stuff, you saw them do it. How's that any stranger?"

"Magical girls can't teach others magic. Therefore she can't be one." Poemu smirks.

"Well maybe this one can! Or maybe we're all magical girls and that's why we were allowed in."

"Even the boys?"

"Yes. Definitely, that's why they didn't mention it beforehand."

"If she was a Magical Girl then why can she do magic without a frilly outfit? I mean, at this point you've basically taken away all the things that make her a magical girl rather than a mage. I think I would've noticed too if monsters were running all over the country for her to fight."

"Well… fine. Maybe she isn't one." Otsu frowns and Poemu laughs. Otsu internally smiles though; she got her to put some emotion into her voice! Success!

"Please, calm down everyone." Principal Yagami says loudly, and everyone quiets down. She doesn't use any sort of microphone, but her voice seems to resonate throughout the room. Strangely, in addition to what are clearly the staff, a little girl and a cute puppy walks out. Otsu tunes the principal out as she goes through the standard welcoming speech, bla bla have an enjoyable and rewarding experience here bla bla. She wants to hear the magic part already!

"… and now I will be introduced the homeroom teachers. Surnames A to N for Signum." Otsu begins paying attention; this is actually important. Signum steps forward. "And surnames O to Z for Zafira."

The dog walks forward, and stands up. Wait, that's a human! They get to learn to shape shift? She's in the dog's class, too. They continue talking about something else and Otsu tunes it out again.

"… aware, this school is different than others in that it has magic." Otsu perks up. "As the only magical school on Earth, we will be putting a heavy focus on the learning of magic. Not all of you are as powerful as others, and will not all be able to do the same spells. I would like to show you what all of you will be able to do by the time you're done here. Vita?"

"Hmph." The girl says. "Graf Eisen, set up." Otsu blinks as in a flash of light the girl is wearing a red dress and hat, holding a hammer that must weigh as much as her over her shoulder. She makes several red orbs and they begin to orbit around her. They dissipate, then she begins to levitate a few books that were on the ground, looking excessively bored. Otsu herself isn't very impressed even as Vita does several more obviously magical but unimpressive things.

"See? They are magical girls," she whispers to Poemu who fights down a giggle. "Just boring ones."

Vita stares straight at her. She couldn't possibly have heard that, right? She grins, saying, "Let's do a real demonstration, show the kids what we can really do. Hayate?"

"Okay. It'll be good for them to see what high level mages can do. Reinforce, set up a Barrier."

"Right!" squeaks a high pitched voice. A very tiny flying human? Symbols appear below her, and a sphere appears around and expands, going past the room. Everything turns monochrome and she can see all but two teachers going to the edge of the room, most of the male ones looking nervous.

She turns her gaze back to the center of the room where the teachers Vita and Signum face each other, Signum wearing a different outfit now as well and holding a sword. They both start floating then suddenly slam their weapons against each other, breaking away then going back. Signum is at first blocked by triangular floating shields, but then manages to land a few hits, slicing part of Vita's costume. She begins to bleed slightly, then her hammer grows to ten times its size and smashes Signum to the ground, shattering the floor.

Otsu goggles at the hammer. That's got to weight as much as a truck! Signum flies into the air and her sword bends, becoming dozens of connected pieces that start to wrap around Vita. With a single shield she blocks them then three metal balls appear in the air and she hits each with her hammer, sending them flying toward Signum. She dodges two of them but the third hits her directly, sending her flying once again.

The two dodged balls break through the wall above the students. Otsu squeals and hears several others yell as well and the two combatants stop.

"Maybe we should end this demonstration," Vita says.

"Indeed." Signum nods to the tiny person and the world is suddenly in color again. The destroyed wall and floor are suddenly back to normal as well.

Vita:
350 HP
Attack: 40
Defense: D25 (speed) + D25 (shields) = 2 + 13 = 15

Signum:
380 HP
Attack: 60
Defense: D27 + D25 = 18 + 5 = 23

Vita HP: 350 - (60 - 15) = 305
Signum HP: 380 - (40 - 23) = 363

Vita:
305 HP
Attack: 35
Defense: D25 + D25 = 3 + 19 = 22

Signum:
363 HP
Attack: 20
Defense: D27 + D25 = 12 + 4 = 16

Vita HP: 305 - (20 - 22) = 305
Signum HP: 363 - (35 - 16) = 344

"Alright! Time to go to your home rooms," the principal says. Everyone gets up and Otsu stands in the line behind Zafira. They follow him through the hallway, though Otsu is disappointed to note they look just like a normal school's.

When they reach the classroom Zafira says, "Take one of each textbook." He points at the wall where the textbooks are stacked, and everyone goes over to it. Otsu pauses at one of the books. An Introduction to Magic Theory and Spells is a hardcover book that looks brand new.

"Where do you think they got all these books?" Otsu whispers to Poemu, then looks at her phone and types something.

"Obviously at the magic book store," a blue-haired girl cuts in.

"Um, I don't know," Poemu responds to Otsu.

"I can't find the author online. Do you think there is a secret masquerade or something? An entire underground society of magic users!"

"I doubt that," Poemu replies.

"Oh yes, an entire secret society of magic users, who have somehow completely escaped notice in the era of cameras being everywhere. That's totally it." The blue haired girl says.

"Well then what do you think it is, blue?" Otsu replies.

"My name is Ryo, not blue. And obviously it's aliens."

"Aliens? What makes you think that?"

"Isn't it obvious?" The girls make there way to chairs to sit down next to each other while they continue their argument. Poemu sits next to Otsu and sighs.

Hayate thinks back to the assembly while watching the students leave for the day. She's only a few years older than them, so hopefully she still seemed professional. The battle was a in-the-moment decision, but hopefully it helped them give respect to Vita despite how young she looks.

"Miss Yagami?" A blonde haired boy nervously walks up to her. "I'm Gihei. Um…"

"Yes?"

"Will you be hosting a cram school? I don't think my current one covers magic."

AN: By the way, I know very little about fashion (let alone Japanese fashion) so I'm not going to try to describe the uniforms. Just imagine them as normal school uniforms but more Hayatey. If someone wants to design them for me though feel free.

AN: Keeping track of all the students is strictly optional for this quest. I, of course, will be tracking all of it as I am writing it. In any case much of it will still focus on Hayate and administrative shenanigans. Also sorry for the long wait, but also I don't plan on ending this quest if you are worried and if I do end it I will (eventually) say so unless I literally die. Right now I have several ideas for the next few updates, so if it weren't for school and being exhausted it'd be pretty fast; the drag with this chapter was the scenes hated me and didn't want to exist.

Class 1-A: Homeroom

"It is time to choose class president. You will decide between yourselves who will get the privilege," Signum says to the class. She motions for them to discuss, then remains silent, watching.

Koji jumps into the air and pumps his fist. He is so ready for this! "I volunteer as tribute!"

"Ew, Koji? You aren't good at anything mister average child." Masa, a girl from his elementary school says from across the room. 'Child' is the meaning of his name; some kids used that to bully him at his old school, so he took martial arts to defend himself. Not that it helped against words.

"I'm not going to be the average kid anymore. This is a magic school! I'm going to be the best!"

"Give it a rest, man. They're never going to choose you," Eisuke says from the seat next to him.

"We should all calm down. There is no point in arguing," says a blonde haired girl with a soft voice. "We should choose the most qualified person."

"Yeah! Yuriko should be class president, she's the best!" Another girl shouts.

"Well, I wouldn't mind," the blonde girl says. Koji presumes she is Yuriko.

"She's so smart she gets a hundred on every test! And she works at a homeless shelter helping people."

"Ugh, I'm never going to win against her," Koji mutters to Eisuke. She probably isn't all that great anyways, he thinks, but no one would believe him.

"Just don't try." He leans back in his seat. "Can't beat 'em."

"Please Sakura, don't brag for me." Yuriko says. "Is there anyone else who wants to be class president? I don't want to stop anyone from volunteering." There are a few murmurings of negatives, but no one speaks up. Koji is about to stand up again when Eisuke just shakes his head. He frowns, but gives in to his new friend. Yuriko seems pretty popular already, and Koji doesn't want to become a loner or something like that.

"Meh, class president is too many responsibilities. Everyone knows that," Eisuke states.

Koji slumps in his chair as everyone in the class agrees for Yuriko to be class president. He should've known he couldn't compete with the rich popular girl. Well, he assumes she's rich. TV has prepared this knowledge for him! His genre savvyness cannot possibly be wrong!

Class 1-B: Homeroom

In another part of the school, Otsu frowns at the boy Yoshitake as he begins to speak. "I, of course, am the most qualified to be class president. If anyone disagrees, I would agree to hear them out of course, as I fully believe in discussion."

"Well in that case I would like to be class president," Yoshe says. She is a beautiful girl, and has an assertive voice. "You are far too crass to be."

"Oh? I apologize if I seemed that way. Though truly, a beauty such as yourself would know." Yoshitake smiles dazzlingly.

"Well, maybe I was wrong about you," Yoshe responds in an annoyingly high pitched voice. "You might be a great class president." Otsu frowns. That was a remarkably fast change in opinion. Like, she completely changed her mind in about five seconds.

"Yoshe, did you really change your mind in about five seconds?"

"Yes. I reserve the right to change my opinion whenever I'd like, Otsu. Stubbornness is not a positive trait."

"That's-" Technically not wrong. "Just doesn't happen."

"Yes it does. It just did."

"Well if no one disagrees then I'm class president!" Yoshitake strides up to the teacher. "Mister Zafira, I believe we are all decided."

The Belkan man grunts. "Does no one disagree? Alright then." He peculiarly doesn't write a note down. Otsu scowls at the exchange. He bulldozed right through everyone, and didn't give anyone a chance to put themselves forward.

Class 1-A: Period 2, PE

Koji stands outside on the school field. The one teaching this class is that girl who looks younger than any of them, Vita.

"Ugh, I hope we don't have to do anything. Gym class is the worst. So is gym not-class, now that I think about it." Eisuke says.

"Oh, come on." Koji rolls his eyes. "You have to work hard to get anywhere. Didn't you tell me you took martial arts too?"

"Yeah, but only so I could tell people I did."

"You're the worst kind of lazy."

"Listen up!" Vita shouts. "Magic can be very grueling work, as you saw yesterday. Therefore, I'm going to get you into shape. We'll start with five laps around the school. Go!"

"Ugh, laps? This is the worst. She isn't even doing them." Eisuke complains.

"Don't talk so loud! She'll hear us." Koji shushes Eisuke. He doesn't want to get in trouble already!

"Alright Eisuke, you don't want to do the laps so bad? Fine. You can do double." Vita says to him.

"How does she know my name already?" Eisuke whispers to Koji, who shrugs. She is a teacher after all. They just know things. Even when they look like little girls.

"And if anyone else wants to complain about me not doing laps, let me put your minds at ease. I don't need to do them." She pauses for a moment. "Did I say you didn't have to start? Go! Anyone not finished with the five laps in twenty minutes has to do double with Eisuke." The girl starts running on the path, easily many times as fast as Koji sprinting despite her shorter legs.

Koji blanches and quickly starts to run, following her with the rest of the class. She quickly runs out of sight, and by the time he has finished the first lap she is standing at the beginning, looking not even a bit out of breath and bored.

Fifteen minutes later Koji pants and falls to his knees.

"So… tired…"

Masa passes him on her fourth lap, rolling her eyes. "Stop being so dramatic, idiot."

"Get up! You finished early, but overworked yourself." Vita looks slightly down at him. "Do not do that. Unlike what many on Earth believe, overworking yourself just leads to injury."

"Yes ma'am!"

Class 1-B: Period 5, Magic Theory

Otsu blinks in surprise as the teacher for the class walks in.

"Oh look, we're being taught magic by a fairy," Ryo whispers to her.

"I'm sure you are all wondering what I am," the teacher begins. "After all, it's not every day that your teacher is six inches tall! Well, now it will be. I am what is known as a Unison Device, a Sapient AI designed to boost and help control a mage's magic–specifically Hayate's."

"Terminator! I mean, uh, I'll be quiet now," a boy says. She thinks his name is Kenzo.

Reinforce pauses for a moment, then laughs. "I am in no danger of killing everyone, don't worry. Now let's begin!" A screen appears in front of the wall, and it quickly becomes apparent this is going to take the place of chalk boards. They really do have the newest technology for this school. Unless if it's magic? No, it would look more magic-y then.

After class Otsu notices Poemu has a pensive look on her face. "Poemu? What's wrong?"

"Reinforce didn't know what the Terminator is."

"Uh, yeah she did. Duh, she made a joke about it," Ryo mocks.

Poemu frowns. "No, she paused before saying anything. She's an android so she was looking it up."

"I think you're looking too much into this," Ryo says.

"Yeah, so what if she doesn't know about it anyways? It's not like it's that weird," Otsu says. "Maybe she just doesn't watch American movies."

"But-whatever. That wasn't my point," Poemu mutters.

"Gerietgns sdtuntes*," a puppy says as he walks into the room. "That's Midchildan for 'hello class'. Midchildan is the most common language used in the Time-Space Administrative Bureau, the largest confederation of planets in the dimensional sea. That is why I will be teaching you it."

Yoshe raises her hand. "So you and the other teachers are from other planets? You're aliens?"

"Don't steal my cows," Kenzo mutters in the back of the room, getting a few laughs. He probably thinks he's funny.

"Except for Reinforce and I, we are all humans, and only Signum, Shamal, Vita, and I are not from Earth."

"Will we get to see the planet you're from?" Otsu impulsively asks.

"No. It is impossible to go to Belka. We will go on a field trip to Midchilda, the capital, once I feel you are all proficient enough in speaking their language."

Yoshe raises her hand again. "Why can't we go to Belka? Is it dangerous?"

"Belka got destroyed through their foolish experiments and wars. It does not exist anymore." The puppy stares at Yoshe grimly. The class goes quiet for a moment. A grim puppy telling horror stories: Otsu can't help but giggle at the sight, causing a few raised eyebrows sent her way.

She should, uh, make sure people know she isn't laughing at a planet being destroyed. "I wasn't laughing at that! Planets being destroyed is bad." There, that works. "It's just–" she can't talk about him being a puppy, he's the teacher. "Um. Yeah."

Principals Office: After school

"Hayate! This is unacceptable." Gempachi, the industrial arts teacher, walks up to Hayate after school with a scowl.

"What?"

"Where are the black boards? How can I teach without anything to write on to show the students? I have to just lecture with no demonstrations? Ridiculous."

"We don't have any. We're teaching students how to use magic, we're hardly going to use ordinary Earth materials. The packet addressing how this school is different than normal should address how to use the video projector." When she researched modern schools she found video projectors are already well in use. The Midchildan ones are easy to use as well; her Wolkenritter tested them out and found it easy.

"Those instructions don't make any sense! I don't know how to use any technology except typing on the computer. It's not just me either; I've talked to Omezo and Masayoshi who agree we are in dire need. We do things traditionally here in Japan. You're really not showing knowledge on how to lead a school." He patronizingly glowers at Hayate.

She tries to stay professional. "You should've brought this up earlier. Even if I order it now they wouldn't arrive for weeks."

"Bleh, use your space magic to figure it out. You have that alien technology right?"

"That's–well. I'm not quite sure…"

"Get sure, then. Or I will."

Hayate frowns. That seems like a threat. She'll have to somehow deal with that as well. These board appointed teachers feel like more trouble than they're worth.
