Land Ho!
Seeing as I was driving myself crazy in Barbarossa quest let's try something different.

Cross-posted on SB

The spray of the sea and the rhythmic heaving of the waves seem to have an almost hypnotic effect on the young man as he pulls the oar with the rest of his companions. For over a day now they have been on this stormy sea, battling the wind and water in the process of reaching their goal. The young man wondered if they were ever going to-

"LAND HO!" A cry finally calls out, interrupting his thoughts.

Sparing a glance for a moment, the young warrior looks over his shoulder to see what the lookout had spotted. Sure enough the dark mass of land could be seen at the edge of the horizon. Relief spread through his body as he saw the promise of getting off of this damned ship tantalizingly beckoning to him in the distance.

Apparently that relief had messed up his rhythm, because with a curse one of the Gedriht admonished him, "Keep rowing boy, this ain't a joy ride, the hardest part is yet to come!"

Shaking his head the young man continued to row.

Soon they'll make landfall, where others of their kin have already come. Britannia, a land once ruled by the Empire, but with it's strength shattered forever more, the Island was now open to all, if they had the strength to hold it. Did he have that strength? Of course he did, he was a Saxon, what else could he have?

Welcome to early 500s Britain, a land of rival kings and warlords, where one's might depended on the the strength of his arm and the greatness of his name. Where Briton and Saxon battled it out for control of the Island.

And you now enter the story, a Geoguth (fighting man) of your chief and captain and his Gedriht (Champions) all told 30 fighting men. Sailing for Britain and loot, glory, land, and a future for your folk.

Your name is (Vote Name).

You're a young man only 17 years of age, but years of hard work has payed off and now you've finally managed to catch the interest of Chief Eanwine who needed a strong back and stout spear in Britannia.

Like most of the Geoguth, you're armed with the standard Spear, Shield and Seaxe Blade that all free men are armed with.

However you're a single cut above most of your other companions, you're from a long line of raiders, your grandfather in his youth had fought the last of the warriors of the empire before they left for the mainland and the south and he bequeathed you an heirloom from those days.

[ ] A Set of chainmail, stolen from the body of a dead legionary, the chain-mail had saved his life many times and although hints of rust and replaced links could be seen here and there, the chainmail still serves wonderfully. (Grants extra protection against combat damage)

[ ] A fine sword. Your grandfather had managed to come across a small cache of treasure in his journeys over the sea and decided to spend it on a fine long sword. Excellently made though with little in the way of decoration, the blade served your grandfather and your father well, and now it has been given to you and you pray to Wotan, Tiw and Donar that you do them proud. (Grants extra damage in close combat)(Name it)

[ ] A bow. Instead of sword or armor, your grandfather introduced great skill with the bow into your family. You remember your grandfather AND your father teaching you how to knock, draw, aim and loose the arrow and always hit the target, while not all Saxons are archers, they are an important part of war and those who show great skill with the bow are always granted the honor that comes with it. (Crack shot with a bow and ranged combat. Not effective against heavy armor unless a critical roll.)

Everyone roll a d6 for where you land.

Thorkin
A young man only 17 years of age, but years of hard work has payed off and now he finally managed to catch the interest of Chief Eanwine who needed a strong back and stout spear in Britannia.

He is a Geoguth, armed with the standard Spear, Shield andSeaxe Blade that all free men are armed with.He is a cut above most of his other companions since he is from a long line of raiders. His grandfather, in his youth, had fought the last of the warriors of the empire before they left for the mainland and the south and he bequeathed to him an heirloom from those days. That heirloom is a sword by the name of Gunnlagi. Armed with his fine blade, he will participate in the largest battle he has ever seen at Linden field.

However, just days before the battle, he manages to find himself and his hunting party struggling to make way out of the mysterious, foreboding southern forest, with his protection from Wotan and sacrifice of the giant boar weighing on his mind. He ponders to himself the words that Wiglaf mentioned about a great destiny for his line lying in wait. The only conclusion he can make is that Wotan will thoroughly test him along the way if the beast in front of him is any indication. Hopfully his title as the "Fell-Arm" holds true once more…

Chief Eanwine
He is the son of Eangar, comrade of chief of Badulf, sworn to loyalty to King Aelle, and commands 30 warriors. Thorkin pushed himself hard to be noticed by Eanwine as a potential Geoguth before coming to Brittania. He has recently sworn himself and received a ring-band from the bretwalda himself, ensuring he carries the backing and symbol of Aelle into the upcoming battle of Linden-field.

King Aelle
Aelle landed in Britannia 32 years ago, driving back the local Britons and making himself a king. For the next three decades he ruled the Southern coast with a strong hand. Eventually enforcing his will over the Kent-men with Hengist's son Oisic bowing to Aelle's paramountcy, his power as the bretwalda was acknowledged among the Saxons.

He is a giant of a man with the strength of 10 men and the fury of a bear. When Aelle had managed to drive off the Briton King Ambrosius when he'd first landed, men had begun to flock to his banner-a giant with two spear and white wyrm on red- men swearing their oaths to Aelle and he giving them sword rings in return.

His son and heir, Cissa, born the year his father landed in Briton, was, from what the others said, much like him in manner and strength. He has recently managed to have Chief Eanwine, son of Eangar, swear to him, his other sworn chiefs, his sons, and closest companions , to fight under his banner in Linden-Field. He will soon march on the Kingdom of Regia, more confidant thanks to Eanwine's pledge, with thousands of men.

King Gwerent
King of Kent before Hengist took over. Vortigern made him give up the Island of Thanet back in the day and when Vortigern reneged on his promise to pay Hengist and his brother, Horsa, they took the rest of the KIngdom. Gwerent somehow survived to become a prisoner of the brothers. But after the death of Horsa, Hengist let him loose. Aelle found him years ago, his mind completely gone butthe mad are one of those protected by Wotan and they sometimes say that his power can be channeled through them, meaning that Aelle keeps him fed and clothed so as to show that he honors Wotan and hopes battle luck rubs off of the mad man. Thorkin gave the old man a some sympathy as well, informing the newly arrived not to harm him and offered to give the man a coverings.

The Welsc Princess
She is the Bastard granddaughter of one of theWelsc kings of Regia. When her grandfather refused to take her back and the chiefs sought to make a claim for her, which would have escalated into killing each other, the bretwalda stepped in. Declaring her off limits to all, she now works as a healer for the Saxon warriors.

Wiglaf of Wotan
One of the Goderes living Nearby a small, but well-made dwelling nearby theBretwalda's hall. He is known to be very picky about who gets a blessing from the All-father. He sees something great coming from Thorkin or his potential descendents.

Will if we are going viking here, might as well make one that can get all up there in melee. As there is where all the real fun is here for us and our viking/raider kin. :D

As for location that's a secret for the moment.

As to the names, you can continue to vote all you like but if I can't find a majority then I'll just number them and roll a dice to randomly pick one.

OKAY VOTING IS LOCKED!

Alright guess I can explain the dice now.

There are three possible locations your ship will be landing. Where they will land is decided by adding up all the rolls, dividing them by the number of rolls made and applying that number to the landing place.
