The last thing that he saw was Winter reaching for him as he fell into the darkness.
"Try not to move, you broke your back when you landed, but your body is fixing itself.' he heard someone say to him, but he didn't know who it was.
'I'm alive?" he asked the stranger, who didn't say anything but then said,
"Yeah, unfortunately."
"What happened?" he asks.
"The truth is no one knows, one moment Atlas was falling on top of Mantle, and the next, well open your eyes.'
jaune opened his eyes and found that a barrier had somehow saved both the Fliying Kingdom of Atlas and the Kingdom of Mantle. Unfortunately, both cities were under water and there were Grimm everywhere.
"So do you have a name?' he heard the stranger ask him.
"Jaune, Jaune Arc." he answered the stranger as he turned to look at him, only to find that it was a boy no older than fifteen maybe sixteen.
'What?" the boy asks him, when he notices that Jaune is staring at him.
"Nothing, it's just that you remind me of a friend of mine."
"Well we weren't exactly friends but I did know her, after all, I asked her out more than once." he says to his rescuer, as he tries to lighten the mood only to find that the boy just glares at him.
'If you're talking about Winter, then you were wasting your time, she never gave anyone the chance to get close to her that way."
"But if you were talking about Weiss, then it was a good thing that you failed because she abandoned me for a faunus."
'Her own brother, for someone she only met a few months ago." the boy spat those last words.
"Are you sure, I mean." Jaune tried to argue in favor of Weiss, but the glare that the boy gave him, told him that it was for the best that he stayed quiet.
"So what now?" Jaune asks the boy as the silence becomes unbearable.
"We are going to wait for your back to put itself back in working order, then we are going to climb into Atlas."
"From there we should be able to get to one of the trains that are kept in one of the warehouses that are near the mines. With any luck the train still works and there's enough fuel to get it going." the boy answers him.
"Are you sure about that? I mean it's a long way up." Jaune says to the boy who points at a building in the distance.
"See that building over there, the other building the one that's attached to Atlas, it was further away from the one beneath it when you landed."
Jaune didn't say anything, he just stared at the two buildings that seemed to be hovering over each other, he almost swore that he saw one of them move, but it was so slow that he could have been wrong.
He felt a cold drop of water land on his forehead, but he wasn't able to move yet, so he couldn't wipe the freezing water off his forehead.
He heard someone walking towards him, and then he felt a warm hand touch his forehead and remove the drop of water from him.
"Thank aum." Jaune tried the boy but he realized that he didn't know who he was talking to.
"it's Whitley, Whitley Schee." the boy introduced himself.
Jaune would have said something, but once again something unexpected happened.
All of the lights in the city or at the very least the part that he was in came back to life, as the streetlights and the buildings all suddenly had power, that quickly went out again.
Judging by the explosions that followed either some building exploded, or the sudden surge of power was too much for the powerlines and they were exposed.
