This is my next attempt to start the quest. This time I decided to get away from too much experimentation and give you something more familiar. In this case, it will be playing as Stormwind around the time WoW starts. You are Varian Wrynn, king of Stormwind, who is in a state of grief after the death of his wife. However, this does not soften the situation at all, since the kingdom is in distress, just like the dark forces threaten the whole world.
After the end of the Third War in Azeroth, a fragile peace came between the Alliance and the Horde. However, all is not so good. The world is still shaky, as no one has forgotten the legacy of the First and Second Wars. The Eastern Kingdoms are in ruins. Kalimdor is almost completely mastered. Vast areas of Lordaeron are conquered by the undead, while in the south the Defias Brotherhood threatens Stormwind.
During this quest, you have to keep track of several things.
The first is the political map of the world. The Horde and the Alliance, even in times of peace, are in a state of rivalry, fighting for potential allies across Azeroth. You must help the Alliance to establish its supremacy, while maintaining leadership in the Alliance.
Second and third, these are your budget and army. Over time, you will have access to them and an explanation of how they work. Depending on how your army is equipped and what you can do, you will have more options available for economic and military policy.

Varian Wrynn resided in his quarters in the royal castle of Storgrad. What did he do? Actually, we can say that about the same as yesterday. Just like the day before yesterday or on any of the days before this moment. He drank alcohol, trying as far as possible to extinguish the still not disappearing wound from the death of his wife. Of course, alcohol did not help much to muffle the grief, but it allowed you not to think about everything else.
Suddenly, the door opened and two of his closest advisers entered. Bolvar Fordragon, commander of the army of Stormwind and simply the most excellent person to whom he entrusted his life. And also Katrana Prestor, who led the flight to Stormwind for the many people of Lordaeron who were left homeless during the Third War. Katrana was saying something to Bolvar, but Varian couldn't hear at that moment, he was completely absorbed in another sip from the bottle.
"Varian, we need to talk about something," Bolvar said, but the king only waved him off, saying, "Don't disturb your…"
It was not possible to finish the "king", as a weighty slap in the face hit Varian right in the face. And since the king did not expect this at all, he fell to the floor.
"What the hell, Bolvar?! Why the hell did you hit me? Thinking too much about yourself? Who, if not you, swore allegiance to me and promised to protect me?
"That's the way my king is. I swore to protect you and I will protect you. Including from yourself. You…what have you become?"
"Bolvar, please, don't…" Katrana Prestor said softly behind him, trying to pull Bolvar back, but he only pushed her aside, "No, damn it. Varian is the king, which means not only power, but also a duty to the whole state. But when was the last time you appeared before the people and nobles? How much do you try to suppress grief in wine? Six months already, right?"
"What about you?" Varian snarled. - "You Bolvar can protect Stormwind from any threat, and Katrana can solve problems in villages and cities." - Varian took out another bottle and began to examine it intently, - "Do you think I'm an idiot and do not understand my duty? But I couldn't have done better than you. So my duty to the country is fulfilled. And now I'm no longer useful."
"Is it just in front of a single country?" Bolvar asked, "Varian, how long have you not seen Anduin?" The name made Varian grit his teeth, trying to hold back the sudden pain, "He is no better than you. Yes, you lost your wife, but he lost his mother."
"Varian, I'm sorry, but I can't help him. I would be happy, but your son yearns for her too much and won't let me get close. Anduin doesn't trust me, he thinks I want to steal her place," Katrana said.
Hmm ... he's really right. Varian was well aware that all his actions were simply an attempt to escape from reality. He knew it from the very beginning, but he could not leave himself. If only simply in the hope of the fact that death will put an end to such an existence.
"Good. You are right," Varian finally gave in, "I have been in a sea of despair for too long… What is required of me?"
"It is up to you to answer this question yourself," Bolvar replied, "The Third War is over, but the peace between us and the Horde seems to be getting more and more fragile every day. Especially after the dead of Lordaeron decided to join the orcs and trolls. Joining the Night Elf Alliance is a good thing, of course, but we're in a very dire situation right now."
Yes, he was indeed right. Varian remembered the days of the Second War very well. He was then in exile, because the orcs, damned orcs, destroyed his home. He saw with his own eyes how they killed his own mother. A wave of green-skinned monsters...
Terenas Menethil adopted him and gave him a home. Then the Alliance was really a great power. All seven human kingdoms, although different from each other, were united in that war. The high elves with their knowledge of magic, the stalwart dwarves of Ironforge and the dwarves of Gnomeregan with their technology... The Alliance was then as strong as ever.
But where is the power of those times now? Lordaeron is destroyed by the undead, and its remnants join the Horde. Dalaran became neutral. Kul Tiras and Gilneas declared neutrality and isolation. Stromgarde and Alterac are destroyed. The high elves also practically perished. Only dwarves, gnomes, and Stormwind remained.
"Yes, we really need new allies…" Varian muttered.
"Or maybe it's time for us to end our conflicts with the Horde?" Bolvar said, but Varian immediately turned an angry look on him. - "If you do not want to do this, then help Jaina Proudmoore, because she wants it."
"And sorry, but we have other problems as well." Katrana interrupted. "The Defias are terrorizing Elwyn Forest and Westfall. And I can't do anything with the nobles."
Yes, these were two more serious problems for the state. Rather, one problem gave rise to another. The nobles refused to pay the builders to rebuild Stormwind after Lordaeron fell, and now they have most of the responsibility. And the builders, led by a bricklayer, revolted in order to get their money by force. And so the Defias Brotherhood was born. At the same time, the nobles still demand that the crown deal with this problem, but do not give money to solve it.
Choose one option:
[] - I'll go to Theramore. We need to talk to Jaina Proudmoore. Even if I'm not ready to face Thrall myself, she's ready for it.
[] - Bolvar, gather troops. It looks like the time has come for the king to go and fight the robbers, because of which the western part of the kingdom is almost lost to us.
[] - Katrana, I'll help you solve the problem with the nobles. They obviously forgot about those oaths that they once gave me and my family.
