A flash of a blade, made of light, as it cleaves through your arm….
A bang of a gun, the barrel placed against your skull, the flickering instance of heat before nothingness….
Four black wings and a spear of blinding pink light, and then cold…
The echo of a voice, speaking from a great distance, as you fall…
"You possess greatness, but you never call it."
"You squander potential!"
"You Utter Failure of a mortal!"
And then you wake up, once again laying among sweat soaked sheets and with a name on your lips that you don't remember.
You breathe deeply, trying to center yourself.
Peace eludes you, but in the back of your mind, you don't hear one last comment from the dream.
"Will you die like the rest?" Welcome to my second attempt at a quest. My first attempt at one, the Without Oversight quest, has fallen silent to my muse, and I'm struggling with it. This one is a bit more… simplified. Fewer mechanics, less crazy expansion of technology, just a single player character, and their sacred gear.
For now, anyway.

Your classes were mostly boring today, with little in the way of homework, and much in the way of lectures and in-class labs. You were burning through your generals for now, and taking a full six class course load, and at this rate, you would have your generals done by the end of next year. The last class of the day, History, was taking forever. the teacher, Professor Portus was an overblown windbag and a half seemed intent on putting the class to sleep. only the mix of a drive to succeed and keeping your mind busy kept you from suffering like some of your peers. When the class was five minutes from ending you were more than relieved to grab your journal and close down your laptop and notes and start packing up, and when the teacher dismissed the class, you were already out and on your way to the door.
Stepping outside into the early afternoon air was a breath of relief, the grogginess draining from you with a yawn as you started leaving the grounds. You rubbed your neck to try and loosen your sore neck muscles from the cramped angle of the lecture hall, you almost didn't see the girl trying to get your attention until she almost ran into you.
She jogged up to you with a batch of flyers for what looked like some sort of religious group, judging by the cross on the letterhead. "Sorry to interrupt, but would you like a flyer? I really need to pass these out before tonight and I'm almost done!" she gave you a bright smile and held one out.
[]Sure, why not?
[]Sorry, but no thanks.
After giving your answer, she quickly parts with you and heads to another student, repeating her question. Focusing back on the task at hand, where to go for a late lunch...
[]Thai Temple: a local Thai food, easy to grab on the go and rather healthy. You could hit there and then head home.
[]Pazzo's Pizzaria: a popular pizza joint, for college students and close to campus. It's likely someone will recognize you and chat for a while.
[]the Faerie Fyre Cafe: an out of the way place for good sandwiches and more importantly a pleasant and quiet atmosphere. it also has wi-fi so you could hang out and do the research for class projects while eating.
[]Geppo's Pub: the local pub, close to your house and on the way home, usually quiet right now, but will likely get busy later.
As you make your decision, you shoulder your bag and head off. in the back of your mind, the whispers return, making you feel the barest hint of paranoia.
-Sure Why Not-
"Yeah, sure." she grins and gives you a bright smile, handing you a flyer before moving on. the flyer is size, done in black and white on a peach colored piece of paper. It's an invitation to a 'Bonfire in the name of our lords and savior' taking place in three weeks. [New quest opportunity! 'Finding my religion']
-Faerie Fyre Cafe-
It's only half an hour later that you walk into the Cafe, pushing past the stained glass front door and into what may be one of your favorite cafes. the entire building is decorated in cool pastel tones of blue and green, but it's accented by black wrought iron. The iron is everywhere, the chair frames, the base of the tables, the counter, in ornate art along the walls. The main floor and the kitchen are before you, and to your left is a circular iron staircase that leads up to both a second floor with study rooms and then to a rooftop patio. the front wall has a half dozen stained glass windows that let in colorful light that washes over the floor and based on the time of day the buildings seems to shine different colors. stepping up you wave to the barista and head-
[]To one of the tables on the main floor
[]To a study room

-before setting up. you pull out a textbook, and set up your spot, getting comfortable, and connecting to the wi-fi, but sighing when you see the password changed since the last time you stopped by.
You step away to go order a beverage-
[](Write-in: What is a store specific coffee drink they serve? Describe and name it, try and keep the theme of the shop in mind.)
-and the barista, a girl with bright blue hair greets you.
"High, Welcome to the Faerie Fyre. What can I get you today."
"[insert drink], Oh, and what is the Wi-fi password?"
"The Wi-Fi is 'G1amour', The L is a 1." she said giving a smile. "Name?"
"Artemis," you say. with a self-deprecating grin, knowing that-
The girl quirks her lips in a smile, not doubt amused at the idea of a by, no matter how handsome or feminine he looks, being named after the Greek goddess of the moon. "Well then, Your order will be done in a few minutes, and I'll call for you, enjoy your stay!" you grin and step away from the counter, another customer already taking a step forwards.
You don't notice the gleam in the girl's eyes as she watches you walk away. [gained Relationship: Bluenette Barista. Rank: Interested party]
AS you sit down and get to work, you don;t notice the voice again, at the very edge of your senses.
'this place is well warded, cold forged iron and sigils and symbols of power lace the very building. be wary.'
How long do you stay?
[]Only an hour or two. you would like to get home in soon. [Some homework unclompleted]
[]Until Dusk. You rather enjoy walking London when the sun is setting, it makes the city come alive. [all homework completed]
[]Until closing. The cafe closes at 11:00 pm, the sun sets at 6:30. the walk home will be dark, but cool and refreshing, plus you can spend time relaxing on the web for a bit. [+1 research topic]

"One Faerie's Forge." the barista said with a smile, leaning down to place it on the table.
"Ah, thanks!" you said, looking up from your research with a grin. A long sip of the coffee and the shiver of caffeine rushing through him made the grin widen. "Ah, Caffeine. Wonderful Caffeine!" you toasted the barista and she smirked back at you. [Gained trait: Caffeine Call]
"You sure that you can handle that? You seem a bit too awake for that," she said, placing a hand on her her hip.
"Heh, yeah, I'm sure." You take another long sip. "Thanks... I never got your name?"
"Alexis. And you're Artemis, right?"
"Yep." you reply before turning back to the laptop as she heads back to the counter. "Thank you, Alexis!"
"No Problem Arty." she calls back.
Over the next three hours, she wanders by and you engage in small talk a few times. she talks Coffee for a bit, and you're out of your class when it comes to knowledge, you do manage to keep up and engage in the conversation. in return, you bitch a bit about College life, and about your math teachers love of Imaginary numbers. Finally, as the sun starts to set, you smile and slide your set up away in your backpack.
Bidding Alexis farewell, you take off.

As you're walking home, you pass by the front steps of a Catholic church, and almost run headlong into a young priest, the white collar and cross giving it away. He's blonde and rather short compared to you, though you'd peg him for his young twenties, despite his youthful features.
"Oh, So sorry sir, I should watch where I travel." the young priest gave a bright smile. "Forgive me, I'm Deacon Jonathan." he holds out a hand and you shake it bemusedly.
"I'm Artemis, and no harm was done. You new? I live close by and I don;t think I've seen you around before, though I walk by here often."
"Oh yes, I just got out of training!" he smiles brighter, rubbing is head as his features take a slightly more contrite look. "Though, I'm new to the city, and not quite steady on my feet. it's so busy!" he looks around with wide eyes.
"I'm not from the city either, yeah I get how it goes. Don't worry, you'll find your footing." you smile, and shake his hand one last time. "I'll let you get back to it, I need to head home."
"Of course. It was a pleasure to meet you Artemis."
"You too Jonathan." "Communion with a Priest, ah, the memories. Many of them poor. Ever since the first Fall.... It hasn't been the same."
And with that, you head home.

Getting home is relaxing, the small apartment is, despite its size, Definitely yours. It has only two rooms: a kitchenette/living room, and a small bedroom. In the living room, your decorations are sparse, you only have a small table against one wall near the kitchenette and a bookshelf and comfortable chair across from it by the window. The space in the middle is hardwood with a comfortable rug over it, and the bookshelves are filled near bursting. One shelf is devoted to schoolbooks and various technical manuals and how-to books. The rest of the shelves are filled with fiction and a variety of them at that. Though fantasy is the most common, you also have sci-fi and mystery, a few historical fiction, a handful of political and philosophical books, and a small section of really trashy romance novels.
The room itself isn't really clean, like all people you have collected a bit of clutter. A variety of jackets and coats are hung near the door and a small pile of various shoes (Dress shoes and boots and sneakers and running shoes) are piled next to the door, and you add your converse to the pile as you enter. In the corners are various things you've collected or stashed out of the way. In one corner a tall lamp, with a box of tools near its base, is standing. In the other, a small pile of exercise equipment, a rolled up yoga pad and an exercise ball among them. leaning against the bookshelf is a tall stack of cardboard boxes, with words like 'Summer clothes' and 'Art supplies' scrawled on them in sharpie.
The kitchenette isn't much different, with a half-sized dishwasher under the sink, and a small oven next to it. It's got a few dirty dishes in the sink, which you haven't washed yet, and an empty pizza box is sitting next to it. The fridge is also half sized, but that's more than enough for what you usually store in it, nothing but a bunch of vegetables, a few wrapped bundles of various meats and dairy, and a few Tupperware's of leftovers.
Deciding that you've sat around for long enough today, despite your walks through town, you slip into your bedroom, which while equally sparse is also far messier than the living room, with a few articles of clothing laying around from where you pulled them off. You rummage through your wardrobe for a moment and come out with a pair of loose black sweats and move back to the living room, pulling your yoga matt out and unrolling it while rolling the rug up a bit. taking a moment to stretch and get limber, you start out a slow sequence of yoga poses. For about an hour, as the last of the sunset vanishes and your lamp gets turned on, you practice keeping our balance and flexing your body. By the end of it, you're feeling relaxed and a bit sweaty. you roll back up the yoga mat and slide into the bathroom for a quick shower.
Coming back out you slide on a pair of loose flannel pajamas before you sink into the armchair. You fumble through the shelves till you come to The Hobbit, a classic. You sink back down and immerse yourself for what has to be the latest of over a hundred readings of the book, letting yourself get sucked in by Tolkien's world of hobbits and dwarves and goblins. you get just past the goblin caves when a yawn hits you and you glance up to see the clock on the wall showing its almost midnight. Sliding a piece of paper as a bookmark, you set the book down and head to bed, rubbing a hand through your loose black hair as you do so, fluffing it out of the damp pattern it had been stuck in.
You lay down and within ten minutes you sleep.
1- the Beginning.
The first feeling is heat. Intense, overwhelming heat. You feel it fill your form, your structure, and you feel it change you. Bit by bit you loose what shape you possessed, and then you feel a change, the heat begins to lessen, but for the first time you shift and move.
And then pressure. regular, focused, precise.
And then the heat returns, only to be soon replaced by pressure once more.
And the cycle repeats.
You can feel as the pressure gives form. you feel yourself change.
You feel a strange force flow through you, and where it passes, you change. no longer simple and crude, but flawless, focused. across your surface, you feel strange designs, pressed into you and flowing, and through them, you feel that same power invade deeper. Across your core, you feel pressure, intent. Part of you resists, but it's almost trivial for the pressure to break that intent.
And then it changes. It all changes.
For the first time, you hear.
"My masterwork. The greatest blade I've ever made."
You feel pride as you are held, sun shining cross your form, as it reflects off you, you let the energy flow, and for some reason you perceive Color. Black and blue and red. And then comes the whisper.
"You are not perfect. But I cannot make you so. Only time can. I only hope that you do not break before you can fulfill your promise. Before the War comes."
And at that, you feel a sheath slide over you, and realize it is you too. a piece of yourself, shaped and fused with wood and leather. and you feel content.
But that shall change.
All things Change.

Artemis Vorn is a student currently attending King's College in London, on scholarship. He is driven, intelligent, and fairly charismatic. He stands at about 5'11" and is slim and lithe, with dark hair that hangs loosely to his eyes. His eyes are a dark hazel color, that in the right light seem to turn a pale red.
Artemis currently lives alone.
Attributes:
Human Average is 5. Human Limits is 20. Starting Stats were decided based on traits. Note, these can change with both training and experience.
Traits:
Each trait acts a +5 modifier for an action. The more traits that can be applied, the better the bonus. You can evolve traits, making them stronger and changing their bonus, by using a trait repeatedly and training them. However, some traits may cause negative effects (For example, A 'Heroic' trait will provide a negative for retreating actions, despite a positive for a protective or defensive action. A 'Coward' trait will provide an opposite. So on, So forth). Traits can also evolve and combine, depending on circumstances. For now, each action can have a maximum of 3 traits.
Quests!
Quest are goals that require time and effort to complete, and can usually be divided into two groups. The first is 'Tasks' these are quick and easy. Running an errand, visiting a friend in need, slaying a small local monster and so on so forth. The other type is 'Epics'. They are likely month or even year spanning endeavors, and the rewards are designed to make that time worth it. Note that some tasks have the potential to unfold into epics. These are Artemis's perception of his quests, not a Meta overview.
Each quest is "named", has it's -current status-, and then has [tasks] that can be undertaken to make progress.
Tasks:
"Finding my Religion"-Starts during Week three- [Attend bonfire Meet and greet.]
Epics:
"Dreams of Steel"-Active- [Sleep for more Dreams.] [Research Dreams] [Seek an expert] [The Soul?(locked)]
You shoot up from the dream rubbing your head and breathing deeply as the strange dream lingered in your thoughts. Being forged into a sword? that was... really disturbing. Not even painful, just... viscerally disturbing.
Anyway, you rubbed your eyes and glanced at the clock, only to roll your eyes. of course, it's not even four thirty in the morning. Christ. Regardless, you get up and make breakfast. You rummage through your cabinets and find a few packets of oatmeal, and start up the kettle. You settle into your recliner and pause for a moment. That dream... It felt so real. more than that. it felt... it felt like a memory. To distract yourself from your thoughts you open up a laptop and decide to wander the web for a bit, but you find yourself looking into...

You get so enthralled that you keep reading as you finish making up your breakfast. After eating a bowl of oatmeal with honey and berries, a glass of orange juice, and a cup of Tea (you are English after all), you settle in for the few hours before school starts.
You only really wind up your research by the time you have to get ready to go, and even as you leave, something about what you read is stuck in your head. (Temparoraily gained trait [Inspired]). Regardless, you head for the school, walking through the still somewhat gloomy dawn, a light mist sitting on the streets.

AS you walk through the streets, you turn to take an alley that lets you cut through dealing with a roundabout up ahead. you only just turn to head down the alley before you stop. at the end of the alley, are three figured, dressed in loose street clothes, and bright colors. they look at you with what can only be described as menacing sneers.
"Hey'ya Bruv? You wanna come this way, Mate, You gonna gotta pay the toll!" One calls out, coming to the front. He's tall. Maybe half a foot on you, and the rest of his cronies are about the same. He's also got his head shaved and tattoos that peek out from the collar of his shirt. he's smiling in a very menacing way, and you turn to head back out the alley only to almost run head first into a fourth guy, this one in a heavier jacket and with dark spiky hair and a smile with missing teeth. You instinctively skip back a step to keep out of his reach and look round.
Spiky-haired chuckles. "Come on then gov, just give it up before we have to beat it up."
COMBAT ROUNDS!
I'll try and update daily for this event, or nightly, depending on what part of the world you live in.
Now, On combat. I'll almost always submit 2-3 basic options for each engagement. these will basically boil down to "Diplomacy/Intrigue" "Combat" and "Flee". You can always enter a choice of your own if you desire, and feel free to make them complex or as simple as you want. You can also choose to use traits in your pick. For example, the GM options for this round are:
[]Duck around the lone guy and run. [Flexibility 1] [City Streets; London] [Persistant]
[]Try and convince them to let you go...
-[]By convincing them you have nothing to offer.[Long Nights] [Alone in the City]
-[]That you will happily pay up![Handsome] [Persistant]
[]Attack the lone guy behind you! [Memories of the Throne] [Driven] [Affinity: Steel]
[]Write in.
For this encounter, Your choice will likely only have minor lasting effects [Temp traits]. none of these guys are planning to seriously hurt you, and you don't have any traits that would encourage you to be excessivly violent in return.
However.... The dice can always fuck you.
After this first combat encounter, I'll post a better post for the comabt overview in the info thread marks.at that point, I'll erase the italics here.

Awakening roll. Current DC 95(+???). Roll... 19.
Anyway, taking the side streets is a bit longer, but you were early anyway. Classes start soon. you shoulder your bag a bit better and take off at a light jog.
(You are on [ Alert ])
You finally slow to a stop at the front gate to Kings and run a hand through your hair. Your nerves seem to almost thrum with energy, and you find yourself focusing on things almost at random. Bits and pieces of conversations around you, a person running past a doorway, a door slamming around a corner.
It's distracting, but you pick up plenty of things you normally wouldn't.
Regardless, you have class.
"God, today's already going to suck." you mutter, running your hand over your brow.
----
You were right. On one hand, you got a lot of notes, on the other hand, you all but darted when classes ended. you rushed to the rest room and rested your hands on the sink counter, as you turned the water on. a moment of cooling down and trying to relax managed to calm you down a bit.
A few minutes later and you managed to step out of the bathroom with a level of composure once more. With that in mind, you decide you need to be a bit social and unwind, heading towards the student building, crossing the street to get there.
You push through and look around the majority of the ground floor. This is technically not part of the college, but off campus. Something about how school policy caused some sort of zoning and permit problem. However, the old apartment across the street got repurposed into a student center.as such, the ground floor has been opened up into a mixed arcade and Starbucks.
The upper floors were repurposed into rooms for study, and the top floor was soundproofed and set up for Karaoke.
I wandered through and took a moment to look over the event board.

"Close, Suzanne." she holds out a hand and you shake, "Nice to meet you. So, you look like you're lonely, and considering I didn't see you and your distinctive appearance until recently, I'm guessing you're new to the school?"
"Somewhat. I was here last semester, but I had very little free time. Had to get situated in town.' She nods sagely, "Ah, bureaucracy."
"Yep. So, since I finally got my stuff sorted, figured I'd try and be social," you said, before looking around the busy floor. "Not doing great on that front yet."
Suzane just smiles, before looking at you. "Well, I can help with that, come on." she grabs the sleeve of your jacket and pulls you along, and you follow bemused and curious. A minute late you're heading up the stairs towards the club rooms.
