Rimworld: Anomaly - Void Gods, Golden Cubes and Wall Lights (1.5)

They kept eating my rice, but with ~6 of them would always go manhunter before I could kill them all.

So they get to bleed to death slowly. :mob:

(I'd have built a wall, but there's like zero wood on this map and I'm not wasting bricks on thieves.)

I have seen many a crime committed in RimWorld but I had hoped that at least RimWorld would be free of the horrors of ivory hunting... Sad to see it isn't.

;)

Have a game with as much wacky mad science stuff I could think of crushed into it. RPing as galactic terrorists committed to unethical science I of course upped the difficulty and amount of raids and made sure that all the factions (plus a few modded ones to make it seem like the rest of galactic society was looking for my mad scientist enclave) hated my guts. Putting arbitrary restrictions on myself I'm only allowed to align with the villain factions like Pirates. Considering the last time I played with the genetics mod and the cosmic horror mod and their patch resulted in some pretty efficient massacring of my populace this will be fun.

elephants eat my crops, which I need to not starve

elephants are very large, made of meat, and therefore volunteer to be stew so I don't starve

do not worry I do not callously kill elephant for their tusks, I kill them for their delicious flesh, for their beautiful hide, and for their tusks. every piece must be used to survive.

RIMWORLD 1.0 WILL BE RELEASED ON 17TH OCTOBER
RimWorld 1.0 will be released October 17

RimWorld 1.0 will be released on Wednesday, October 17!

After five and a half years of development we're coming to the close of this chapter of RimWorld. Thanks to everyone who got involved on the forums[ludeon.com], posting bugs[ludeon.com], chatted on Reddit, offered mods on Workshop and the forums[ludeon.com], to those who are doing translations,[ludeon.com] to everyone who contributed to the RimWorld Wiki[rimworldwiki.com], and to Piotr Walczak, Ben Rog-Wilhelm, Alistair Lindsay, Rhopunzel, and others who collaborated with me on making the game. Thank you everyone.

If you're playing an unmodded game, just keep playing. Version 1.0 will be compatible with un-modded savegames from Beta 19 and Beta 18.

If you're playing a modded game, you should follow these two steps now:
  • In Steam Library, right-click on RimWorld, select Properties, go to the Betas tab and select the "beta19" beta.
  • Back up your mod files.
    • Copy all the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\294100
    • Paste them all in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Mods
I'm recommending modders don't update in-place to prevent the above problem, but can't guarantee everyone will get the message.

1.0 is mostly the same as Beta 19, with a lot of bugfixes. The only significant new feature is a new food restriction system that allows you to determine what your colonists and prisoners are allowed to eat.

There will be a shiny new trailer on release day.

As for the future, I plan to continue updating the fan-made translations and creative content. There will also likely be a bug-fixing patch. Beyond that, though I won't promise anything and nothing's decided, I can think of a variety of interesting directions to go with the game. For today, though, I'm just celebrating.

Thanks again everyone.

Elephants are an excellent source of protein, though I prefer to use eggs and tofu (with mods) since I can just set that up once and not have to worry about having enough meat ever again.
If you don't have enough meat there's a chance you have too many colonists to be sustainable, there's a simple two pronged solution that doesn't need any mods.

Eh, I don't do cannibalism in my colonies.

The point of chicken coops and soy farming is that they are a stable and steady source of protein, so once that's set up there's no need to go and order the colonists to hunt some deer whenever the stockpile of meat starts running low, and with a greenhouse you can keep production of soy and hay up through the winter, so there's no need to calculate whether you have enough frozen meat saved up to last until spring or worry that you might have misjudged the amount needed.

And chicken coops are also mod-free :V

So can anyone screenshot the new food policy? Wanna see how that works and can't get to Rimworld yet.

I just had two megasloth selftame to my colony within 30 minutes of playing. And then my researcher accidentally shot his wife in the head while trying to save her from a grizzly bear, killing her instantly. Ah, Rimworld. I missed you.

Friendly fire is a bitch. At this point unless I need it for temp control I just wear simple helmets 24/7.

I was mistaken. I assumed it was a headshot given the one-shot kill, but he actually shot her in the torso and kabloomed her heart. Which is actually hilariously tragic. For reference, this woman was one of my founding colonists, who was married to another of the founders. Then the researcher joined, and she almost immediately started an affair, then divorced her husband, then married her lover. Then her lover shoots her in the heart and kills her. It's like one of those 19th century moralizing novels that explain why horrible things will happen if you are unfaithful.

So many toxic fallouts.
Why are there so many? I guess it's just bad luck, but they're such a pain.

I always liked Dwarf Fortress, but hated how obtuse and unhelpful the UI (or lack there of) was for it. Would anyone who has tried both say how Rimworld compares on that front?

Also, any mods you would recommend for a new player? Probably going to get it during the next Steam Sale.

Rimworld is much easier for most people, being built around the mouse instead of the keyboard. With only 1 z-level the game is a lot less complicated and forgiving, you don't have to do obtuse mud making just to farm, etc.

There's lots of good mods, the only one I'd start out with is RimHUD.

Use"prepare carefully" mod to start out with much more resources and useful pawns for getting into the game.

That wonderful feeling when your first high-explosive shell onto an enemy siege lands right on a cluster of three pawns. And then the next one hits their ammo dump. Out of twelve pawns, they had five dead before they launched an assault, and half the remaining were wounded. Easiest siege I've ever fought.

So, I installed the centralized climate control mod and tried to use it. Unfortunately, it seems I dont understand how it works and cannot get the damn heater working.
The instructions on the workshop page seem like they ought to be fairlycomprehensive, but I find them incomprehensible.
