On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

urgh we need a dissenting plan.

[X] Plan Three or more Runelords is probably enough to build a wall.
-[X] Aid: Nai, Gain: +2 Progress to Defence. In. Depth Pt. 4, if completed then she will add progress to another task in the hold. The work must be done, and you will admit you've been caught in nothing but your Gruntaz at this juncture. You'll gladly accept her aid.
-[X] Teach your apprentices. [Cost: 1 Action] Locked in for 12 turns. 1 Action
-[X] Durazkul: [Cost: 4 actions] Student of the Odd will proc. The tubers sit in your home right now, waiting to be tested. You've at least confirmed that they do in fact provide a useful amount of improved healing. Combining the effects with Valaya's spring does not do as much as you'd hoped, but it does increase a dwarf's natural healing more than if they had only used one of either method. Perhaps there's more to it than you think? 2 Actions.
--[X] Guild Expertise [Cost: 20 favours with Kraka Drakk] Gain 2 progress. The Farmers Guild is a smaller institution, average in all quantitative respects. But Dwarf farmers serve an important role in society, after all they grow the stuff your people make into fine brews and ales. While they can't help you find out how useful the material is in Runes, if it is at all, they're certainly willing to offer their expertise in more mundane research.
-[X] [Simple] A Better Smelter: [Cost: (6 -3) = 3 actions, x1 Voidstone] Productivity Like no Other will proc. Due in 3 Turns. 1 action locked in, more can be added. You and the Brotherhood have agreed to share information and knowledge in the creation of a new, larger Furnace array. The completed smelter will be for your use, seeing as you're using your own voidstone for the job, and the Brotherhood will disseminate this new design to their members. Many eagerly await the chance to use the Voidstone they've managed to find. 2 Actions.

Frankly the other Runelords will get it done without us and this crosses off the only one of our research actions I think we can manage with just two actions.

E:

Sorry hope thats better.

Sorry to be that guy, but I don't think there's much point to it at this stage of voting...

I want to do the potato research too. In fact, a few pages back i said we should try to fit it in, cos it's action count can be reduced by involving a guild, so it's easier than other material research. If we drop one action next turn, we can complete the KotS armor at the same time. More likely we'll drop the leftover action into making the blueprint for the armor though, given the way the wind is blowing.

Magic healing potatoes are very useful, but when we're sitting on a possibly mutated shard dragon, we don't want to be caught with our pants down when a new front just opened up.

Snorri is a Defence in Depth Evangelist who advocated for it before it was cool. It paid off during the invasion, and everyone now agrees. "Someone else will do it" is not something we should say when everyone else is making time for it.

Doing the defense in depth action also serves as a set of practical lessons for our new apprentices:
-Obviously Defense in Depth, or how to Dorf 201
-Prioritization of projects and putting the Hold first
-Runesmith collaboration, despite potential differences of opinion

I would try to come up with an alternate plan, but i'm in agreement with the consensus in this case. This is the most important thing we can do this turn.

And why are we putting the apprentices into Dorf 201 when we haven't even walked them through 101 yet?
101 is basic beardling education, from 0-30. We finished of 102 and 103 for Snerra with the help of our apprentices. Snerra's course of education was unusual, in that she took 201 and 103 at the same time.

Edit: Though we might need to do a review of 10X for Karstah, to make sure she knows the extra bits of lore that are passed down through the Runesmith clans. Would be nice and fluffy :)

Hang on, shouldn't Morgrim still be around somewhere. You'd think he might have something to say about how to deal with the tunnels unless he's too busy grumbling at the miners for missing it in the first place.

Who am I to ignore a passionate defense of the humble potato?

Who am I to ignore a passionate defense of the humble potato?
Thank you

I'm sick of all this "Stonebread" bullshit that's going on in the the quest right now. Durazkul deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine Durazkul from the windswept godforsaken northern hold of Kraka Drakk for 20lb's of Gomril ingots (that's about 20,000 gp) and have been eating it for almost 2 years now. I can even regrow limbs with my potatoes.

Dwarven farmers spend years working on a single tuber and massage its rocky exterior up to a million times to produce the finest potato known to the sane races.

Durazkul is thrice as tasty as Stonebread and thrice as nutritive for that matter too. Anything Stonebread can feed, a potato can feed better. I'm pretty sure a Durazkul could easily feed a Longbeard wearing full plate with a simple tuber.

Ever wonder why the Dragon Ogre incursion never bothered conquering Kraka Drakk? That's right, they feared the disciplined Master Farmers and their Durazkul's of deliciousness. Even in the the War of the Beard, Elf soldiers targeted the dwarves who ate Durazkul first because they knew that they wouldn't die to anything less than the concentrated firepower of the army.

So what am I saying? Durazkul is simply the best potato that the world has ever seen, and thus, requires better effects in the quest. Here is the stat block I propose for Durazkul :

1 lb Durazkul (20 daily rations) +20 deliciousness +10% population growth +regenerates limbs in seconds

Now that seems a lot more representative of the feeding power of Durazkul in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Durazkul needs to be tastier in the quest, see my new stat block.

@soulcake: please give this man an award for taking "Katanas are underpowered in D20" to the next level.

less striking than a Zornish Yam
I mean Zornish Yams aren't that outlandish, but something that looks like a literal rock is only interesting when you realize it isn't an actual rock.

ALSO.

I LOCK THE VOTE.

So contested. :^V

-[X] [Simple] Defence. In. Depth. Pt. 4: [Cost: 4 actions] Productivity Like no Other will proc. There's now a system of tunnels beneath the hold, the foul creation of a Shard Wyrm that has so far been silently patrolling beneath Kraka Drakk for reasons you are not entirely sure of. Whatever the case the beasts are no friend of your people, new species or no, and this one will have to be dealt with the old fashioned way. The other Runelords are well on their way of contributing, but they've made a, perhaps unconscious, decision to leave the tunnels solely to you to turn into a deathtrap for any beastie that dares rear its head here once more. 2 Actions.

Kulgur and Durazkul, staple pub food of Kraka Drakk.

Hmm... maybe we should have Clan Winterhearth start a pub. We can ask Snerra to use her pull with Bryggeroot to get us a favorable deal on the beer. We have Yorri's troll recipes that another Runelord thinks are good enough to sell, and now we effectively own our own brand of potato.
And we have two new guinea pigs to test new recipes on...

The pieces are all falling into place...

So assuming nothing else is lit on fire and nothing else threatens the hold

We;re going for KOTS armor and planning what to do with the heart next turn yeah?

You know, if Durazkul actually IS able to be made into a drink (vodka anyone?), and it keeps its healing properties, we (and whoever discovers the actual drink) will be venerated to levels just slightly lower than the Ancestors.

Healing Vodka? I wont be surprised if the tale of its discovery gets made into an Epic Saga, multiple accompanying songs, banners, and even a Clan Symbol.

All Hail the Gift Giver for giving the dawi the gift of Healing Vodka!
