On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

I'm definitively not against Brynna helping us with the defenses the sooner those are done the better in my opinion.

Looks like our initial plans might have to be altered a bit.

Two actions on Defense in Depth pt. 4 + Bara's Brynna's Assistance, put the last one on the Smelter (along with the mandatory action there so it finishes) perhaps?

Looks at the project list, screams internally.

Okay, so if we accept the agreement, put 2 of our actions onto defense in depth pt 4 to produce 3 of the 4 needed with the other runelord making up the last action. That lets us put an extra action onto the smelter to finish it this turn.

You mixed that up with Brynna, who is the one offering her help. It's cool and an easy mistake to make, but it did make me double back to make sure I didn't bungle the names up either. :^V

[] Plan: Defence. In. Depth.

[] Aid: Nai,
Gain: +2 Progress to Defence. In. Depth Pt. 4, if completed then she will add progress to another task in the hold. The work must be done, and you will admit you've been caught in nothing but your Gruntaz at this juncture. You'll gladly accept her aid.

[X] Teach your apprentices. [Cost: 1 Action] Locked in for 12 turns.

[ ] [Simple] Defence. In. Depth. Pt. 4: [Cost: 4 actions] Productivity Like no Other will proc. 2 actions

[X] [Simple] A Better Smelter: [Cost: (6 -3) = 3 actions, x1 Voidstone] Productivity Like no Other will proc. Due in 3 Turns. 2 actions

At this point I'm kind of feeling like there's no way to get anything done. Everything takes far too many actions and our pool seems to have shrunk over the course of the quest.

Well fuck you too scaly lizard snake!

BAH!

Oh well, I don't have any problem delaying the design stuff for the heart a turn.

She has a family, she has something more than two hammers and the doll he'd made.

Karstah can only nod, not able to trust her voice.
The head of the Miner's Guild bows his head, "I'll take absolute responsibility for this. Shard Wyrm, a large one going by the scale of the system we've uncovered so far. Though we're concerned about one thing, the tunnel structure and overall range correlate with existing knowledge of their movement patterns, but the tunnels themselves...they're smoother than anything we've seen or recorded. I'm writing to the heads of the Miners Guilds in the other holds for any more information they may have, but I can't exclude the possibility of this being a new breed of creature we have not yet seen, some offshoot not unlike the Greedy Trolls or Branakroki."

Grumbling erupts across the room.

"First the trolls, now this…" Gormak grunts out before taking a hearty swig from his tankard.
You said it buddy, you said it.

Before you can open your mouth Bara speaks up,"I can lend my expertise with the warriors you're planning to assign. The work with the Reclamation is at a stage that the youngsters can take up the slack. I can't in good conscience go about campaigning and leave the hold in such a position."

"Aye! This grand tale of Reclamation shall have no element of tragedy on my watch. The Steel Matron speaks truthfully, the refugees are currently in a state of consolidation before their next push. Better then, that I do my part to secure the hold while I have the chance! A wonderful addition to this saga!" Dwalin shouts enthusiastically.
God I love Dwalin. Scream it out to your hearts content buddy.

I also like the little hierarchy going on here. Bara does whatever she wants, Dwalin follows the inspiration, Lorna looks up to her elders amongst them Otrek and obviously Snorri, and then Brynna applies her Zornish attitudes.

[ ] Durazkul: [Cost: 4 actions] Student of the Odd will proc. The tubers sit in your home right now, waiting to be tested. You've at least confirmed that they do in fact provide a useful amount of improved healing. Combining the effects with Valaya's spring does not do as much as you'd hoped, but it does increase a dwarf's natural healing more than if they had only used one of either method. Perhaps there's more to it than you think?
- [ ] Guild Expertise [Cost: 20 favours with Kraka Drakk] Gain 2 progress. The Farmers Guild is a smaller institution, average in all quantitative respects. But Dwarf farmers serve an important role in society, after all they grow the stuff your people make into fine brews and ales. While they can't help you find out how useful the material is in Runes, if it is at all, they're certainly willing to offer their expertise in more mundane research.
@soulcake is it possible to finish this research with just Guild Expertise?

[] Plan Noperope Begone
-[] Aid: Nai, Gain: +2 Progress to Defence. In. Depth Pt. 4, if completed then she will add progress to another task in the hold. The work must be done, and you will admit you've been caught in nothing but your Gruntaz at this juncture. You'll gladly accept her aid.
-[] Teach your apprentices. [Cost: 1 Action] Locked in for 12 turns.
-[] [Simple] Defence. In. Depth. Pt. 4: [Cost: 4 actions] Productivity Like no Other will proc. There's now a system of tunnels beneath the hold, the foul creation of a Shard Wyrm that has so far been silently patrolling beneath Kraka Drakk for reasons you are not entirely sure of. Whatever the case the beasts are no friend of your people, new species or no, and this one will have to be dealt with the old fashioned way. The other Runelords are well on their way of contributing, but they've made a, perhaps unconscious, decision to leave the tunnels solely to you to turn into a deathtrap for any beastie that dares rear its head here once more. 2 Actions.
-[] [Simple] A Better Smelter: [Cost: (6 -3) = 3 actions, x1 Voidstone] Productivity Like no Other will proc. Due in 3 Turns. 1 action locked in, more can be added. You and the Brotherhood have agreed to share information and knowledge in the creation of a new, larger Furnace array. The completed smelter will be for your use, seeing as you're using your own voidstone for the job, and the Brotherhood will disseminate this new design to their members. Many eagerly await the chance to use the Voidstone they've managed to find. +1 Extra Action.

If we can add in Durazkul with no actions that'd be good.

We've just got a bunch of obligations active right now, plus a sudden potentially-critical situation. There'll be calmer moments.

There have been as well so we know it's possible to get stuff done. There was a period I think after we made Trollslayer where there weren't any requests except for Write In's I'd made.

mmmm...

Its a pity we're likely too early or don't have the right skill set to learn how to do the shard dragon binding collar thing.

And even if we do since it is weird we don't have time.

The Research back log. Yeesh. You guys want to fi ish out the Odd Places after the Kings Armor is done? Just to roll for any other potential research worthy materials?

Want to make a 5 turn period or so just to finish out these material research actions. It's getting ridiculous having so many things we dont know the full use of.

Karstah can only nod, not able to trust her voice.

Best angy smol in quest is going to be a Snorri-trained runesmith...her life is never going to be the same again :3

He blinks. One, twice, then three times before he finally acknowledges that it is indeed the Gift Giver staring at him impassively.

This would be a 'gently put drink away ' moment if he had one

"I'll see what I can do about the leg, I've found that I'm already doing it in my off time and I see no reason to make one for you as well," he tells Nain's father.

"No need to rush on my account Elder, I've gone three decades without one, a few years more won't kill me," his father says, patting the stump that ends above his knee.

"Three decades too long on my part, hmph. Something I will rectify at least here.

Ah Snorri, only he would consider himself 'not doing enough' and taking too long on something like this. I really look forward to when his own...unique sense of 'proper productivity' makes the southern Runelords that came north go "Oh my."

Oh goodie this is a thing...yay...

"A good thing it hasn't started tunneling into the Underway or Ancestors forbid, the Hold proper, but it's far too close for comfort,"

Yeah, if the magma worm hadn't already done it with Grimnir, this would definitely have pushed the Underway into being fortified too.

Before you can open your mouth Bara speaks up,"I can lend my expertise with the warriors you're planning to assign. The work with the Reclamation is at a stage that the youngsters can take up the slack. I can't in good conscience go about campaigning and leave the hold in such a position."

Nice! Both that the younger runesmiths are doing well enough to keep the Reclamation going, but that Bara is not wasting time to help the warriors and follow Snorri's example to help the hold.

Okay, Far as im concerned, Dwalin here is a Dawi Brian Blessed in full ham. and I love him for it. @soulcake i love how everything he says is filtered through "I DO EPICS!", such a great character flavor.

"Runes of Warning will be a useful boon as well. If my elders permit, I would be willing to take up the task of making talismans and markers with my own variant of such a Rune, to give us a way of being alerted should it come back" Lorna says, staring at the four of you just as much as she was the king.

She so shy :p but i love the precedent here of the runes of warning, that'll be useful in the long run.

"Lord Klausson, I understand that you are very much capable of doing so on your lonesome, but do you have any objections to me lending my expertise in trapping the creature's tunnels? Or would you rather take that task yourself and I find some other duty to see to?" Brynna finally says, eyeing you expectantly.

Hmmm, what could our answer be? hehehe.

- The Reclamation of the North is underway and well ahead of schedule thanks in no small part due to the contribution of multiple Runelords, Bara and Dwalin included. Already several holds have been unsealed, and though the tallying and recovery of those that died there is gruesome, many a sealed vault has remained unscathed in the decades since the hold's fall. Many a refugee Clan has been reunited with heirlooms they had consigned to never seeing again.
Yey! Runelords being active in the holds already paying dividends. All hail the Snorrists!

NGL. The existence of such a concept is contentious to me because Dragon's have been shown to be pretty firmly on the sapient side of things, and for all that Shard Dragons have degenerated compared to their cousins, the mind isn't one of those things (at least enough t consider them more akin to like a Chimeara or Wyvern) at least for this quest. So given the Climate IRL and my own personal feelings, the Collars aren't a thing yet if at all, IDK yet. Like I can see dwarfs doing it and in canon, they most certainly did because they and Dragon's don't have a nice history, but I'm leaving that can of Worms unopened for this quest thank you very much.

Now, I could have made them animal level intelligence, but what's the fun in fighting a dumb monster. :^)

@soulcake, the options for aid are a bit confusing. with Nai being accept aid and Aye being to not accept aid. Is that a mistake, or just an answer to "should i find something else to do?"

Turn 24 will have 4 actions to play with. Could do a thing of wrapping up the Odd Places and designing whatever we're going to use the Heart on be it armor or gronti. Then build the Griffon armor on turn 25 and whatever we end up making on turn 26 (if armor) or turn 27 (if gronti).

I think I like that option and then after our heart project is done, I wouldn't mind a large research period started on turn 27 or 28.

Brynna was asking if Snorri had any objections to her offer for aid.

Sounds good to me, i'll back this plan.

This is assuming of course that something else horrible doesn't decide to climb up from the Deeps or fly in on the wing. :V

I personally don't think we should delay the Griffon King's armor further then turn 25, and with a threat nearby to the hold I'd like to have the heart project sorted out soon please TM. Along with Snorri's armor if we take the Gronti option.
