On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator: Use it, train it on Kholek, though it will mean it won't be firing at the other Dragon Ogres present, and must still hit Kholek. +70 to Hit on Kholek, you won't see these rolls but +35 killing Dragon Ogres.

"Then we go, off to our Dooms, for the sake of our people. Morgrim, take one of your transport contraptions if you wish but I will not ride it this time. I would walk the Underway with my own two feet… one final time."
Ah. Grimnir is about to come through the underway and clear out all the daemonshits that tried to invade from underground. If it works out (and it should it's an Angry Warrior God in an enclosed space against unlimited enemies) the refugees might just make a train behind Grimnir and his followers.

Use the fact The Valiant has cleared the Underway to set up defensible locations at fallen holds that they themselves can attack the probably occupying daemonshits from.
... Actually, you know, maybe there'll be some other differences in this timeline too?

Because I just realized that one of the reasons that Grimnir might have shaved his head and left his armor might have been BECAUSE of losing the Uzkulak Dwarfs too!

I wonder if his tour through the Underway, the Kazar Ankor on his way north, will mean that he also goes to Uzkulak too? He'd have to swing to the east to do that. Buuut, the great Road of Skulls (which I think was the path Grimnir took) heads east anyway, so.

I dislike the fact that Otrek would be outside the influence of our runes. Plus the siege weapons are well protected. I don't know why people want to stay there so much, I mean we won't make the shot and we would simply be another guard.

I prefer the option to both protect out king and where we can continuosly continue fucking over grand daemons of Chaos, since I expect a few of them will be salty when they recognize us.

The four main gods of Chaos are fully invested in this incursion, so I would give them decent odds of figuring out something is up.

Some sort of divination is possible yeah, though the properties of adamant seem like they might make it harder. That still leaves the issue of actually reaching the thing though. Even if they do find out about it I think there's a strong argument that the better Kholek is pinned the faster the shot can be taken, meaning less opportunity for sabotage.

What's the bonus vs unnamed dragon trolls if we use the Retaliator on them and the Reckoner on Kholek?

It says it right in the vote, it's +35

No matter what option is chosen, Otrek won't be fighting outside of its range.

Because the entire battle is relying on the Thrower being used against the Suneater and the fact that guarding it is an option, implies there is a potential threat to it. I also disagree we would merely be 'another guard.' Snorri massively raises the odds that whatever tricks Chaos might bring to the table that could threaten the Throwers will fail.

My biggest worry is the use of Chaos portals to be behind the lines and near the Throwers.

You know... I think that bolt from Retaliator won't kill 'em. It will allow the Suneater to be killed, but not kill him.

Now, I'm more guessing and infering from our battle with the Greedy One, which was pretty unique on his own. He was able to... ramp up. Charge up. Any wound we inflicted on him was healed at an astronomical rate, allowing him to get in a decent amount of hits on us. I reckon that Suneater has the same capabilites on dint of the fact that Chaos would cram tons of nasty business into their champions. If this was the case, then we need the opportunity to finish suneater off before he heals back up.

This is a stab in the dark, of course. He ought to have some healing, but not on the level of the Greedy One. And he will have the King of the Sky, Yorri, and Otrek

He's talking about Wrath and Ruin, Oath and Steel, not the Banner. The Casting runes.

The Greedy One was a TROLL. A super powered troll. Their big schtick is regeneration, and Chaos Trolls, or as of 8th edition super ones like Throgg, only get STRONGER when they have good rolls on regenerating.

If the shot is reliant on Kholek being pinned, what if we put it on the Reckoner? Not only is that added protection from surprise attacks (if it's even possible to mount one) it means the Retaliator is killing off other Dragon Ogres in the meantime, making it easier to pin Kholek.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

Not really sure this is the best answer, but there's a grudge to be avenged. We've got a bolt with his name on it - literally - and we are ramming it down his throat, and avenging all those he's killed. Let the grudge be settled.

Seems the dwarf thing to do.

This is getting into subjective viewpoints about the pretty arbitrary limits of chaos forces. The fact that the engine is under the aegis of a dwarf hold and has other counterspellers besides us by it, as well there being no chaos 'hook' next to it to focus the summoning makes me think it would be pretty hard to portal over though.

Possibly? A +20 differential is pretty big though, I think it would be hard to make up in a reasonable amount of time.

Guys, the Bolt Thrower is Explicitly staying Behind the Uber powerful Banner Ward we put up! It is being manned by the best in the hold, guarded by a full panoply of fellow Master Runesmiths, and is carrying the full wrath of the Kraka Drak loaded in its first string!

Staying by it provides literally Nothing for it beyond assuaging those paranoid little minds you people all seem to be clinging to with both hands.

This is the final fate of Kraka Drak! The battle that will go down in LEGEND!

Where do you want to be in this tale? The Runesmiths who bid back behind the awards while his King went out to face the Suneater, fighting beside a wounded King of the Skies and our own Master?

What kind of Dwarf could we call ourselves when this, the heart of the greatest Grudge formed to date, walks up to our door?

We must take up our Axe! Right the Wrong! Step forth with our King, who bears with him the Wrath of the North, and strike down the Enemies Champion!

Actually...our presence is likely to draw attention from magically sensitive entities and in general, after we caught their attention when we entered the battlefield.
