On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[ ] [Write-in] Plan: Stab Through.
-[] Snorri centers in the heart of the Hearth Guard, supporting them and watching for opportunities.
-[] Karstah and Dreng form a spearpoint and attack the nearest Gronti with intent to disable its legs, supported by the Hearthguard
-[] Hearthguard are to disable and hamper the target's ability to move with the weapons and Engineering tricks on hand
-[] Do what can be done to hold off the other Gronti with shield walls.

Trying to destroy them or kill the Gronti is going to take too long. If we can effectively make them unable to fight, we can take the next step of disassembling them.

Prolly needs some refinement but *shrug*. We'll figure it out.
Probably not a good idea to try shield walls against Gronti. The hearthguard we have are probably only 25-33% warriors to begin with and the gronti are going to easily bash them away. Kiting via rangers while the engineers/warriors throw troll/dronril bombs/nets to try and topple them maybe?

Shield wall is foolish against gronti that are larger and at least as well armored and armed as all of our people are. But they are moving slowly, so we can probably kite the Gronti. We should also test if they are going for Snorri or just the closest person

I like your idea to rush one of them with Karstah and Dreng. Two possible options

What you came up with where Karstah + Dreng take one, Snorri + Half Hearthguard take the second, other half kite the other two.

But given numbers is giving a bonus here to the Hearthguard, I think a better option is Karstah and Dreng take one, while Snorri + All the Hearthguard kite the other three.

Hammer and Anvil type tactics.

No, I think the point of this trial is to demonstrate combat skill. But Snorri's gear got disabled because its too powerful and would trivialize the challenge

1. What does Duraz mean?
2. Are the Gronti made of stone?
3. Which members of the group would have weapons able to damage a stone gronti?
4. Which members of the group would probably be able to deal damage through the gromil armor of the Gronti?
Gronti-Duraz is a catch all term for Rune-animated Golems. Shortened to Gronti, even if the dictionary translation is Stone Giant.
Normally yes, but not always.
All of you with enough effort.
Hard to say, if you can get the joints then doable, but the plate is probably unbreakable to anything short of Adamant or Zharrgal and your eye if they were active.

Hail the Mighty.

By Craft, by Skill, overcome.

What Remains, must be Undone.
There is definitely a way to shut them off somewhere in this room, the challenge would not be realistically viable for runelords that don't bring a group otherwise. BA isn't the best set ever, but it's strong enough that to be this trivially disabled... no one could hope to overpower the disabling rune without knowing it was coming, and even then it would be extremely difficult I'd bet.

At the same time this is the test of Might, so the straightforward approach may be the best option while everyone less combat-oriented (and Snorri because he got smacked) try to find whatever Remains.

I don't think BA got shut off for trivializing the challenge, because part of these challenges is to come prepared.

So, my preliminary plan would be something like:
[ ] [Write-in] Plan: Kite the raid boss.
-[] Snorri centers in the heart of the Hearth Guard, supporting them and watching for opportunities. He does not directly engage gronti unless there's an opportunity.
-[] Karstah and Dreng form a spearpoint and attack the nearest Gronti with intent to disable its legs
-[] Hearthguard are to distract and kite the remaining gronti until the first is disabled. Rangers use dronril/troll bombs while warriors/engineers use nets to topple the gronti.
--[] Once a gronti is toppled, a group splits off to disable the legs while the rest of the hearthguard kite the remainder

[ ] [Write-in] Plan: Hammer and Anvil
-[] Snorri centers in the heart of the Hearth Guard, supporting them and looking for opportunities to turn this all off as they all kite three of the Gronti around the chamber.
-[] The Hearthguard attempts to blind and slow or topple the Gronti with Trollgut acid bombs and any other equipment on hand.
-[] Karstah and Dreng form a duo and attack the nearest Gronti with intent to disable its legs, then attack the other Gronti in sequence.

@LaggPlaguedDuke there we go, written up concisely.

There's a thought that what we did with the lights was turn three gronti to our side, but Snorri needs to wake them up. (with there being a total of 7 gronti in this challenge)

[ ] [Write-in] Plan: Ahah, Find the Off Switch
-[] Snorri and five Hearthguard Warriors search the room looking for an off switch, or hidden inactive gronti to turn to our side. If there isn't anything, go help Dreng and Karstah.
-[] The Hearthguard attempts to kite three of the Gronti, blinding and slowing or toppling them with Trollgut acid bombs and any other equipment on hand.
-[] Karstah and Dreng form a duo and attack the nearest Gronti with intent to disable its legs, then attack the other Gronti in sequence.

A good idea.

OK, Thungi is a cheating bastard confirmed...

What the hell is the point of a runesmith knowing how to fight without his equipment? That is like a course in underwater basketweaving for how often it would be relevant. :wtf:

And no it would not be broadly applicable because of the many ways in which powerful and esoteric runes qualitatively change the nature of fighting.

That's why I suspect this challenge isn't what it superficially seems. This would just outright kill any runelord here alone, assuming the disabling is standard and not because we tried cheating by picking it up indirectly.

Huh... that's a thought, lay down our weapons and refuse to fight. Logically this thing has a limited power supply since it had to work against a Tier 5 Artifact, Thungi or no Thungi he is not here and I am betting he would not have built it to kill unarmed dwarfs over the hammer. Maybe the winning move is not to play.

That's just forfeiting the trial imo. Karstah was pretty specific that it was testing craft and/or martial skill, and refusing to demonstrate your martial skill is refusing to engage with the test.

We were pretty worried that someone might have beaten Snorri to the hammer but going off the previous trials I think that's unlikely at this point. Anyone younger than Snorri is straight up getting pancaked by this trial and runelords like the Burudin seem too set in their thinking to have out of the box ideas that Thungni seems to prefer. And Snorri thanks to Yorri and likely through to Durin, was taught that style which gives him a major advantage.
