On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

They've all earned the right to it, yeah. They probably can't afford it though. Unclear about the Brotherhood. That invitation is probably down to when they appear ready, since they skipped the interim steps.
To build on this has been made fairly clear that Snorri is absurdly wealthy even by most Runesmith standards given he personally owns the Gromril mine he uses for his Adamant.

Fjolla, Dolgi, and Snerra should have all be taught how to make adamant by now. They earned that when they made their Masterworks and Snorri deemed them worthy to learn the rest of his secrets. It's been like 20 turns since then so I'd expect they all have a smelter or two and we just haven't seen them make anything with adamant yet. Dolgi mostly does Brana stuff which isn't conducive to small builds and the other two have been focusing on other areas.

Finally after 5 days of just reading this, i reached this turn, and those last turns were so fucking cool, with us completing Khazagar and creating our own Tornado in a pocket, but what i'm most interested is too see how we will deal with the rift that will bring daemons and all hell creatures to the holds of the North, that True Killing rune will be a blessing if we can get it done before things go crazy

The rift doesn't exist yet, and we intend to deal with it by making sure it stays that way. So that may be anticlimatic if all goes well.

wonder if we can go on a expedition to find some more gromril mines?
Not with any greater expectation of success than most miners of reasonable age, let alone compared to the entire community.
Finding the first one was dumb luck that we bought we location before a landslide made it sniffable, Snorri nearly built a house ontop of the depot without noticing, he's not any more of a prospector than any other old dwarf is.

"He hadn't broken the tenets of the Ancestors or his guild, but he may have well broken their spirit."

This is how a functioning and well working society goes to the shitter that we saw during the empire times, this is the most dangerous stuff ever popped up in quest.
We really should consider spending more action or effort in the war because the long this goes on the worst it gets, this is already like a mini war of vengeance for some families in the north.
Still great update Soul.

We are not responsible for quashing innovation and societal change upholding the glorious will of the Ancestors across the whole of the North in all fields. This stuff is normal, in fact this is how the Ancestors came to be, something was wrong in society and a bunch of people innovated away from tradition in an effort to fix it. Not every solution is going to work and not all of them are going to come without unintended consequences, but that is normal, that is how societies work. If you want to spend more actions on the war to save lives that is one thing, but let's please not get into the mentality of 'oh no people other than us are innovating'.

Yeh and Honestly Its true thats a Better choice than going slayer since the recruits are still paid, can start there own family or move on to different carreers after the war ends/there no longer needed. Its just understandbly something that takes advantage of grief and wrath no matter what.

I think the point he was trying to make is that Ravnsvake has so many people about to go slayer that they can man a fleet.
Which is a lot of people and shows how devastating an effect the war has on the far north.

Going slayer on a ship is a lot less wasteful than the traditional path. Once the dwarf fleets are upgraded to ironclads, it might even be a better tradition since those ships are the most powerful ships in the setting by canon times save for the elves meaning less casualties. And even there I think they might be better on a per ship basis?

Dwarf captain: join the navy slayers!
slayers: Why? We want to find our Doom.
dwarf captain: We fight sea dragons and sea monsters big enough to eat our ships
slayers proceed to start mobbing the captain for a seat on the ship

...guess we should put our plans on hold and help out in ending the war swiftly?
We can't end it swiftly.

There's somewhere less than 10 and more than 5 cities left, and we can at this point not expect to get more than one city every time we march based on the information we have on hand. Its worth us fighting and marching but there is a very clear limit of what we personally can do.

Best possible outcome for Ravnsvake is that the orphaned dwarfs bond from the experience, band up and form a new clan of sailors.
Would be quite ironic if the new clan ended up taking the name "Saltbeard"

Thulgrim: history will never let me live this down.
Almost slayer dwarfs: OK.

Would be another Vragni/CoC situation, where the founder of something good and innovative is not particularly happy with the circumstances around their creation.

Mmm, that's the best case.

I'm not sure it's the likely case, given the attitude of "fuck you I want to die killing someone" is not actually very useful for naval combat, as it's rather more team-oriented than warhammer melee combat, where Heroes stand out. There's quite a lot of patience involved, which basically-Slayers are not good at compared to normal dwarves, who are very patient.

Moreover, it associates "shame" and "naval stuff" early on, which is not going to be helpful for long term development. Dwarves who aren't on the brink of cracking down the middle are not going to want to be around those who are.

Short term gains are absolutely gonna be great from this, but long term... eeehhhh... eeehhh.

I guess it will work itself out. At best, they will use the shame and wrath to be useful in something and that they could help avenge their family and friends.

I have been thinking to try and study the Anvil of Earth that our Master showed us and see if we can't try to replicate this and use our workshop Anvil as the same thing, that is too get the magic from below and use our Armour to channel that into our itens, maybe if we complete the siphoning rune and upgrade our magic-leens that can help with that, like with the Khazagar complete that being a wonder and the ritual maybe with those shenaningas on our side we don't die from overdose of magic juice.

I don't think that's doable. What we are probably looking at there is an Arcane Fulcrum, otherwise known as one of the natural intersections of leylines on the planet, the kind underlying geography over which one places Monoliths/Wasystones. The Old Ones themselves could not move that, they just built their geomantic web on top of it.
