On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

So, the Master Rune of Brotherhood isn't as Busted as I think it right? In theory that Rune tramples all over the teaching Apprentice action. Karstah with that just by learning from her dad will get her Fathers Blacksmithing Mastery allowing her to focus more on Rune Studies. More to the point Vrangi would love this rune as it would make the production of apprentices insane.

Is that per person? How does it choose? How does it choose the skill? Is it based on the users idea of their greatest skill or the targets? Does that mean it also has bearing on the Mind of Things? What's the limit of skill learned this way? Is it only equitable to Dawi? Can Dragons use it to learn things faster. How pissed are Longbeards going to be with this cheat?

Runesmithing is a magical skill, I do not think the Rune of Brotherhood applies to it.

It wears off after the fact, and dwarves don't want to share secrets.
Q. How does the Rune of Brotherhood work in this quest.
I've had to nerf the Rune of Brotherhood to prevent meme skillhacks/skill growth that would break my system. In short, The skill transference is temporary and reliant on the dwarf being around their closest companions as determined by whatever means the Rune has. The alterations you know don't overcome this limit, no matter the efforts of the Runesmiths, you included, who tried. Maybe one day you'll get an idea, but right now you're out of luck.
I doubt the fundamental skill hacks nerf has been reverted here.
E: After re reading, I think I might be wrong. Will definitely be good to get a clarification on the FAQ.

So... Snorri pretty much just accidentally stumbled upon the start of the solution to one of the two holy grails of Runecraft (i.e. seeing magic and thus what the hell runes are actually doing). That's... um, good? I know we're only at the beginning of this path and we've a long way to go before it's a true solution, but it's still a hell of a thing to find essentially by accident.

The real challenge here will be holding back from going all in on Extra-Sensory to complete the Rune of Windsight before the University is ready.

It would be a massive flex to inscribe the complete version as a Structural rune on it and have that be the way we demonstrate it to the wider community.

Master Rune of Brotherhood for Otrek Jr. to pick up his father's Melee Skill!

Master Rune of Brotherhood + Rune of Grimnir + Rune of Grungni. Using the later two runes to hopefully focus MRoB and strengthen the effect on the skills required to be a dwarven king, both in combat and out. Hopefully combing into something like Princely Education.

Inscribed on an adamant prince's coronet.

A structural MRoB on a school/training workshop would also be interesting. Might want to complete the next stage of Mind of Things first in the hope of upgrading the effect though.

So to sum up this post, we joined the Elders letter club, changed Runecraft forever, and the Ancestors have gone out for a pack of cigarettes?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Just when I though we are going to slow down a while after the war, we sped right back up to 11. Let's Go!!!

Speaking of Windsight and Rhuniversity, that's probably going to tamp down on complaints about figuring out how to do chainmail via normal Runes so fast. Like, of course he figured out some new stuff when he's perhaps the first Dwarf ever to be able to see the Winds. Like at all. It's a perspective literally no Runesmith's ever had. Wonder if he'll get a bonus against spellcasters in any future duels since he'll have a better idea what they're casting and when.

Also, Windsight monocles are going to become standard issue for spotters when Skaven and Necromancers are around, because holy shit does having early warning when someone's casting something help against those guys, and negate a lot of issues with finding these sorts of things when you can't actually tell if there's magic about without being right on top of it.

Sure, it's just 'better than nothing' right now(which is still an enormous qualitive leap when starting literally from nothing) but the second step is basically inevitable by the time those guys show up.

I wonder what would happen if we present Thungni's letter to Whitebeard ahead of the meeting as evidence that Thungni was active in the world very recently and was planning to be active for decades yet.

-- +1 Progress to Akazit Pt. 2, new totals [Cost: (14 -1) = 13 actions] You seem to be burning away something, the next question is how you can stabilize this odd ash. Perhaps a medium of some sort? Maybe a better container. The Rune of Windsight at least hints towards what needs to be done. Isolating it from the other Winds will be key.
Well Adamant already blocks winds, so... maybe that's a viable route?

[Non Canon] A New Challenger enters the Lamb Debate, +5 to a Roll
Then that fragile hope burned and died when, near the end, you read through fifty or so pages of a Runelord describing the best possible way to slow cook a whole lamb, all while not-too-subtly belittling the opinion of another Burudin member by using their cooking method as the ultimate example of how not to do things. Followed by another dozen written from said other member very long windedly and thoroughly calling the previous writer slack jawed, tasteless hermit who hadn't had good Lamb since he moved out of his parent's house. Followed by a long and winding descent into despair as more and more Burudin members seemed to be brought in, willingly or not, onto the discussion by both writers, with no sign of the debate stopping or cooling down either.

You have a choice here, of course. You could join the discussion, bringing up your own recipes. The fact is that none here have even mentioned blueberries as a glaze for lamb is a clear sign that even the Burudin are capable of failure, and thus in dire need of correction. You actually have a written copy, from when the Hearth Guard first formed and required the necessary knowledge to represent you in all matters.

You could also ignore it. That would be the sensible course of action, to turn the page and look instead towards the Challenges your fellow Runesmiths and Lords have cast out...

And yet...a fey mood strikes you in this instant, and you reach to grab Zharrgal, along with a small ingot of Gromril. Perhaps a bit much for the purpose, but it will serve to distract them a bit longer from the bit of fun you'll have at their expense...

---

"A missive? So soon?"

"An express delivery, Runelord. One of several." The Longbeard offered out the package, marked with the Giftgiver's telltale mark.

"Hmmph." Alric Thungnisson gave the other dwarf a nod as he took the package, mind already turning to the most enigmatic member of the Burudin. Had the Giftgiver already devised a set of Runes for communication? Perhaps he had already possessed such a thing, and had only had cause to reveal so now. Either way, it would be an impressive feat, and Alric was well ready to accept another of such from Snorri...

But instead, gazing down at the weathered sheet of gromril, Alric could only feel incandescent rage.

Snorri's Moste Delicious Recipe For Lambe Withe Glaze

1. Procure Lamb and Blueberry
2. Add Blueberry to Lamb
3. Add Lamb to Furnace
4. ???
5. Enjoy

Side thought. We were told Aonoquean resonates with the Winds (which I believe is how elven magic items work, as they're passages of Aonoquean text), so I wonder if learning that language to a higher standard would allow us to design a better Windsight eye by leveraging that property.

On another side project that might help, the next stage of Secrets of Light was to investigate the Rune of Forged Eye in more detail. That might also help build a better Windsight rune.

Well Adamant already blocks winds, so... maybe that's a viable route?

As does obsidian (and lead) in canon Warhammer.

So...
Here is some timeline consideration and comparison to original timeline that I consider worth making a note of.
Now, @soulcake please do chime in and correct me if I get/have got something incorrectly.

Currently, that is to mean, as of the end of this turn and the beginning of the next one it should be the year 394 after the pillars of Valaya.
Malekith and Snorri Whitebeard meet somewhere around year 404 after the pillars ± a couple of years, during the campaigns to clear out the last significant remaining chaos armies.
Now, due to the North holding out much better during the original Chaos incursion, the situation vis-à-vis chaos could be changed enough to have butterflied that away, but seeing as Grimnir's fate barrel got altered, I somehow doubt that.

So, people, and various unidentified entities habituating this bit of the interwebs, with some degree of trepidation I call forth that we bring up the general state of readiness up to alert state: Cinabar.
Pale red, but possible danger is visible over the horizon.

The spiky edgelord elfboy is not corrupted yet, though there are some indications he had always been a bit of a dickwafle.
But, that is beside the point. The point being, whatever the blueshitbirb might think, Mal's fate is not yet carved in stone and atrocities.
So, can Snorri (Giftgiver) affect anything that could, potentially, alter the direction his life would take?
Can we prevent the break between the elder races?

*large shrug*

Need to get a chance to meet the guy first, in my opinion.

At this juncture I doubt we could do anything, we have no way to know there is a problem... because there isn't one so far other than Morathi being a Slaaneshi cultist (sort of kind of ). Once the Cult of Pleasure fires up in Ulthuan we might get an inkling that something is wrong, but even so Snori is not an investigator. Our best moment to act might be after the Sundering, if we figure out what a Druchi is and what they are doing the doomed envoys to the Phoenix King might be more circumspect and thus avoid beard shaving
