On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Perhaps, but only if we research Odd things. Researching Gromril so heavily helped us get the Mind of Metal trait; researching it further is good on its own merits but won't help us with our general-purpose Odd research trait.

We don't actually know that, I think. For all we know there's, for example, a background counter the ticks up for every action we spend that Journeyman of the Odd applies to, which Runemetal research would be applicable for.

I'm also not sure we should put 2 actions into Rune metal, if we put 4 actions in in one go we get an overflow of 2 for the next step, if we put 2 lots of 2 actions we don't get any overflow. I'd rather spend the two actions next turn on something that wouldn't benefit from having more put in at once, mainly Odd places but I could be convinced to go for an autopsy instead. That said I think there's a good chance we spend next turn on Yorri actions.
I'd prefer to start stocking up on corpses to do some destructive testing for the autopsies, to be honest rather than dumping extra actions into them instead.

Baisically there's no way to get any extra actions out of odd places or the feather, so yes we put in two actions and get two out but that will always be the case so we aren't losing anything unless you plan to never do them.

It won't always be the case because in some scenarios we're left with only one action available in an otherwise optimal plan. That's the time to do single action things like Odd Places. Not when we have two slots open and so can do something else more efficiently.

Hmm, while there seems to be a preference in this quest already, I'm feeling that we'll get the most out of
- Taverns - Social stuff!
- Foundry - Any new developments? I'm pretty sure that any new stuff that is for the forgers / blacksmiths will be present at the captial of the Karaz Ankor as well.
- Bakeries - I really want to see the lass that made that good stonebread the last time we were here.

I'd like to research the Weapon Variant of our Master Rune, or work on finishing the Banner variant so we can move on to the Weapon.

I'd like to use it for the Az commission.

to be honest so? it not the most efficient way but some people want to do it and We are runesmith not a engineer after all. we have put it off long time now and with this mindset it will be a very long time until odd places is done.

You usually write great stories, but you really outdid yourself this time.

I could feel the sombre weight of Snorri's age weigh upon me. The description of his hypercharged work process flowed like less deadly molten metal, slow yet strong and smooth, while also feeling almost a bit transcendental in places.

And the sombre yet strong end to Otreks story fit him very well. Even if I hope he knew his son was missing due to state business and duty, not dispassion, but I would think so.

The pictures are also beautiful, even if the before after thing in the update itself is broken for me.

I shall be pushing for bakery, as I wish to see what has become of the baker girl, the thing I most associate with this hold in this story.

Lol, I have a feeling that the Hearthguard is going to remember this, and is either going to start training their intrigue skills or put emphasis on finding and recruiting dwarf ninjas or something.

It is a lesson taught by the master that taught Snorri. To disregard it would be to disregard an ancient elders knowledge.

can do places of the odd,

I am 100% behind this. I care not for efficiency nor tactics, this must finally be struck from our list of tasks.

This is a period of endings, let us finally hear our masters parting lesson, delayed by many a century.

[ ][Explore]: The Temples.
The shrines and temples of the Ancestors are quite the thing to behold. It will be good to visit them and enjoy the splendour before you.

[ ][Explore]: The Taverns.
Ale, what other reason is necessary? Doubtlessly there will be people, but they're just in the way between you and that most delightful of drinks.

[ ][Explore]: The Bakeries.
Two centuries since you have come to this place, and you wonder just how the art of Stonebread and baking has fared since. There are likely other baked goods to try you suppose, but nothing really beats Stonebread.

[ ][Explore]: The Foundries.
The Engineers, you hear, are having a public competition among their Guild over something or other. You aren't sure over what though. Of course, there are dozens of Master Smiths vying their trade here as well, you still needed to get Fjolla and Joll's wedding gift too you suppose.
Tempted by any 3 of these 4.
The competition in particular is bringing to mind the engineers attempts to create their own version of Forged Limbs.

Time, eternal time, more than usual you are reminded of its weight and inevitability. You take note of the length of your beard, the whiteness of your air and the wrinkles and marks upon your flesh.

For Engineering Inspiration/Contact (maybe something else to use gromril chain on?) and for that wedding gift.

Cookies?

I see this as a nice narrative cap to the commissions we took.

Also, those rolls man.

I actually wouldn't mind doing the pick next turn as I don't see any need to overflow on it but I imagine getting the thread to commit to any comission before the deadline turn will be hard.

This turn actually showed us that we need to do the commissions before the time limits now. If we had one more turn, we could fine tuned the whole thing better. Now we are staring anything from 1-4 overflow if we act in a safe manner next turn. If we had one more turn, things would have been a bit more flexible.

I just wanted to say that the art, and especially the sliding comparison, was incredibly beautiful. This update was definitely among my favorites!

Well yes, but that's the point being made isn't it?

It's not about understanding the winds alone. It's about adding that knowledge to the already extant knowledge that Snorri has regarding runes, and giving him new information and perspectives to view runecraft with, it's about merging the understanding from a new source of understanding and putting that into his runecrafting expanding the scope of what he can do. Modern science is replete with examples where people with knowledge of multiple disciplines come up with answers that aren't understood or found by those that are masters of just one discipline.

There's little reason to believe the same wont happen here, where a Runelord that learns more of the winds of magic and syncretise that with his understanding of runes to expand the scope of what he's capable of and to broaden the his understanding of how runecraft its self works.
You've slightly changed the argument so I'm going to have to back track a little.
When Alratan raised those two specific fields of research as possible solutions for Durin's Consternation, I assumed (not unreasonably in my opinion) that he meant that those two where either likely or the most likely to have answers. Hence why I explained my reasoning for why those weren't particularly good candidates.

Now if the argument was always "We should research everything and maybe by pure coincidence we'll solve the greatest mystery known to Runesmiths" then we're left with two option. Either we find some kind of order to research them in, probably our best guesses first and then everything else. In which case my response is still relevant. Or we roll dice to pick our next topic, in which case planning just got a lot weirder.

In other news, if the only reason we can think of to research corpses is "We should research everything and maybe by pure coincidence we'll solve the greatest mystery known to Runesmiths" Then I think thats a pretty clear indicator that we have no good reason to research corpses.
(Roll, Peerless Production Grave Wardens: 75, 74, 78, DC 60)
(Roll, Peerless Production Defence in the Depths: 67, DC 60)
Damm Peerless production OP :V. Its a 100% action efficiency buff.
0.4^4 = 3% chance of that happening.
Well that was a proc turn, all 4 actions proced our trait, unexpected but very nice. Saves us 2 actions next turn (originally the job was a 3->5 and 5->8 overflow of 1, now we had 3->8 and can do 3->5 to 8 for 1 to 4 overflow). Not sure where to use the 2, can do places of the odd, can do 2 action research (which is just Firebirds Feather),
You know we don't have to finish a research or action with those two, what does it do to breakpoints for the next big research topics if we spend it there?

Voting for my top two, I don't massively mind which out of the others we do.

While I'm fine with any of the votes winning theres one I want above all so I'm solo voting for that.

[X][Explore]: The Great Hall.
Though Prince Whitebeard has gone on campaign, the throne, and with it Azamar sits empty in the Hall of Pillars.

If we're going to get ancestor interaction this is a key place (Except Mogrimm who's more likely in the Engineers if he's even in this hold rather than Zhufbar). Its a good place for interaction with their family. I also want to see Azamar and see if our Rune of Fate vision affects what we see (Shame we didn't get that done, but I don't really see how we could have fitted it in in time).

I do think theres a background action counter, in part because Master of Many triggered at such a weird time, the fact that we never got an upgrade of the Odd tree despite all the Rune Metal research we did makes me think Rune Metal doesn't contribute to that.
