On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

@soulcake : Do forged limbs work as hand me downs*? That is to say if someone loses a limb and there is a spare lying around can they use it with some blacksmith level adjustments?

*Pun very much intended.

It'd be pretty weird if they did, tbh. It's not like everyone has their limbs cut off at the exact same spot; if you lose your arm above the elbow, dearly departed grandad's prosthetic from when he lost his hand at the wrist isn't gonna do you any good. The other way around would work I suppose, but it'd be more than a little morbid to have someone who lost their leg below the knee shave off a bunch more of the stump so they could use a secondhand prosthetic from someone whose leg terminated above the knee. Better to have each prosthetic be bespoke to the individual user imo

[x] Brana: Accept
[x] Ceremony: Subdued.

Rune metal progress is nice! Though with it only freeing up 1 action I would say go with Odd Places 9/10 for the replacement slot. Gives us something to burn craftsmen favor on and puts us one step closer to finishing all of the Odd Places.

And bespoke prosthetics also fits the dwarf mindset on how they approach making things better, so that's what I assume they'd go for first unless they had no other option.

[X] Brana: Decline
[X] Ceremony: Subdued

Dolgi should be the first dwarf to have brana in his retinue. I dont mind taking a later batch but could leave them alltogether too.

Ceremony should be subdued to comply with the wishes if the queen. Her opinion is the only one that counts for this.

[X] Brana: Accept
[X] Ceremony: Subdued.

It's interesting that the Brana aren't locked into Azyr but Ghur is arguably the wind least helpful to dwarfs. That being said I want a wizard in our retinue anyways.

I wonder if alchemical transformation would eventually allow a runesmith-alchemist to reshape a forged limb into a slightly different shape so it could be inherited.

That's a long way off though. Second hand rune-ware is probably best avoided until then.

I so wonder whether there could be any consequences from superhuman forged limbs and later organs. I could see sufficiently radical dwarves going in for transdwarfism in a couple of millennia.

As an add on to taking the Brana on ourselves and not sending them to Dolgi, think of how big a deal getting sworn guards was even at our age & position. Can Dolgi comfortably take that on? Both politically and materially, I mean.

(Roll D20, Recruit Brana: 4 +2[Omake] =6, DC 20 -2[Action] =18)
Snazz Points burned for Reroll
(Reroll D20, Recruit Brana: 18, DC 20 -2[Action] =18)
Well what do you know, Snazz points did a thing.
She pauses for just a moment, staring at the disapproving visage of a Dwarf Matron, the Runes of Fear, Lightfright and Fire glowing fiercely in her gemstone eyes and on the front of her war helm respectively. The depiction is new, barely two decades old based on the weathering, and yet it feels as ageless as the stone surrounding her.

"Hullo Grandma,"
I can't imagine anyway she'd prefer to be remembered.
You grumble down at the prosthetics, making sure they look perfectly presentable in the Gold and Iron chest they were to be carried in.

Having already done this far to make the entire set, you'd be a damn fool of a dwarf to bumble the landing with a shoddy reveal of all things. There's still a bit of coordination to be done with the Princess and King of course, like how they wanted to go about revealing the legs to the world proper.
I know right, imagine just blundering half asleep and handing it over before passing out.
Youre not getting away from the choice that easily, it'll be a retroactive thing. :^)
Is it an OoC choice then?
