A different take on the scenario Kaori and Kousei get together.
Chapter 1. Til Death bonds us.
Thirty tons of pure metal and cargo rammed the prodigy at sixty kilometers per hour. Little did care the brakes for him, they had to fail at that exact same moment. The flesh was hacked apart from the bones as they cracked in nigh unison. The bloody ragdoll byproduct of the crash was sent flying twenty meters forward and rolled violently yet another forty more.
People would mourn bitterly his death, his prowess and future cut short. Little they knew their song was just getting to a new high.

A vast white plane extended up until the horizon and beyond. Kousei stood silent, aghast regarding what had happened. He vividly remembered the truck.
"You're dead."
The one to speak was a shadow with a skull mask of cartoonish appearance. He seemed nice, yet gave a strange vibe.
"Don't worry. It begins to get better now!" Cheered the shadow. "You better brace yourself for the ride!"

"Is he alive?" Asked Felix.
"I... I don't really know, I'm not a doctor. I'm trying to take his pulse but I don't feel anything." Answered Franz, breathing heavily through his black helmet.
"Have you tried to take off those gauntlets? Or a more scientific method like, don't know, prodding him with a pointy stick."
"Stop being an utter moron, will you? I'm not taking off the gauntlets."

Kousei heard a buzz. As he slowly gained awareness he discovered it was a conversation. From managing to open his eyes, he could see the shapes of people surrounding him, they were concerned concerned if the tone they uttered their words was something to go by.
"Is he alright?"
"Who's he?"
"Get the fuck out of here you vultures!" Bellowed a boy with a squalid afro whom wore a coffe-colored tracksuit and had the appearance of a corpse, pale and bony. "We found him first!"
"Hey, he's awake!" Shouted a guy with a black helmet with red visors clad in black garb.
'What's going on?' Thought Kousei. This wierded him out, where was he? Who were this people and why did that girl have purple hair?
"Kousei!?"
The pianist recognized that voice, he rose up as if he was a spring. He turned as his eyes went wide open and his jaw dropped.
'It can't be!'
"Kaori."
The blonde girl she loved stood a few paces in front of him, covering her mouth with both her hands, her eyes on the verge of tears.
They couldn't help it. They thought they'd never see again in their lives. It was true, but neither of them thought how death had bonded them again as they embraced each other warmly.
I think the part of 'Kaori makes it' has done quite often. And while I'd have loved that she lived to be honest with her feelings, I have to recognize the canon ending and admit the strenght and sheer emotion of it. A great ending indeed, as heartbreaking as I found it. So why I did this a soul crossover? Well, I have a bit of a theory that will go unraveling as the story goes, but basically their souls went astray and ended up in this parallel universe, transforming in meister and weapon. Guess who's who?
Appearance wise, Franz is like the NCR Veteran Rangers from fallout NV with quite a few extra kilos. Like ten or so. Guess who's the weapon? It's fifty fifty, bets are open!
Whoever gets it right will get an OC of their own.
