Aulus' Faction
Magna, Gaius, and Aerius, controlling magma, sand, and ice respectively, were childhood...acquaintances. At least collectively. You were pretty good friends with Gaius, the lazy one, and were cordial with Aerius, the pacifist. Magna however never really got along with you. She saw your timidness and hesitation as a weakness rather than the cautiousness that is was. Either way, the three siblings were inseparable so when the other two joined, so did she.

Even if they hadn't, you're confident that she'd still relate to your goals and your message and would likely end up joining regardless. That's just the type of person she was, a spitfire, pun intended. As it was, the three were valuable allies and committed to the group.

Along with them, you had Omare and Kasim, two young children with brown skin who had made quite an impression on you. Kasim was quiet and reserved, but Omare...was every bit a natural born leader. He was loud, opinionated, and unfortunately (maybe fortunately? Depends on the view) fairly intelligent and observant to back it up. He was the one who had broken down the clan and their workings to you and laid out that you needed their help. You doubted two small children could do much, but they did just show you up so who were you to judge? Also they did hold an air about themselves that instilled you with confidence in their abilities.

The other member of your small group, also from the Gaea Clan was out at the moment, so were a smaller and weaker group than usual. This left you with only one real option at the moment as far as confronting the other factions went, and that was Aulus and his group.

Aulus was an old warhawk, a former warrior of the Gaea who lamented not being able to join the 'War of Gods and Kings' as he (they?) called it. He harps on and on about how he would've changed the tide for the Gaea and wiped out both the Akachi and Orion clans. No one seemed to take him serious, so you were unsure about his power, but he was persuasive enough in his rhetoric of what the clan's next move was. Aulus's faction was small, but it had experience, a lot of older retired warriors and older people in general backed him and his pursuit to wipe out what's left of the Orion Clan, the old rivals of your clan, and to topple the Akachi Clan.

Only through their downfall could the Gaea rise up again. Or so he says. You didn't want to fight with him, but if need be...his numbers could be helpful when challenging the other, more powerful factions.

But first you had to figure out how to approach him.

[] Agree with him and promise that once the Gaea Clan is on top, you will wipe out the Orion and Akachi Clan (lie)
[] Agree with him and promise that once the Gaea Clan is on top, you will wipe out the Orion and Akachi Clan (Truth)
[] Tell him this is not the way, and that the Clan had to reunite and build before worrying about others
[] Challenge him to a 1v1 duel to determine who's correct
[] Challenge his faction to an all out battle
[] Ask the others in your faction their thoughts
[] Wait for your other Gaea member to return

So yeah the vote between Best Friend and Successor is close, 3 to 2, so I'm allowing time for anyone that hasn't voted in that yet to make up the difference and hopefully not make it a draw. It will be decided for good by the next update, even if nothing changes.

[X] The Best Friend: He's like a rock and is always by your side no matter what. He controls Earth mostly and is a powerful warrior.
I feel like I'd like to see some backup for Protag here, given we've got people with weird powers and people who are Smarter then us, and thusly we're going to need an edge to not just get knocked to the side. Though that wouldn't necessarily not be interesting I suspect my fellow Questers here wouldn't be keen on that.

Aulus' Faction: Group Thoughts
You had a few ideas for Aulus, but nothing concrete, so you thought to put your faction members to good use. Turning to your fellow faction-mates, you scan the two separate groups, and decide to ask the Gaea Clan members first. They'd be more familiar with Aulua and hopefully would have some insight.

"Magna." You say suddenly, causing her to look up at you with fiery golden eyes. Her brown, spotted hair whips through the air as she moves her head, surprised at your voice coming from seemingly nowhere. After the initial moment of surprise, she narrows her eyes, her dislike for you, no her annoyance at you, showing itself.

"What, oh venerable leader?" She replies sarcastically. You ignore the negative tone.

"I was thinking about Aulus..."

"What about him? He's a tired old man and by far the easiest to take out. You shouldn't even waste breath on him." She says bluntly with a bit of a sneer.

"RIght but, he's first in line. We need time to grow and a reputation we need to build and he presents the perfect opportunity. More importantly than...thinking about him and his age, I need to think of a way to deal with him. Now we know he's hellbent on-"

"Tch. Just send me at him." She interrupts, grinning at some very violent thoughts.

"I...what?"

"Let me challenge the old far to a 1 on 1 duel, winner takes all. I'll crush him beneath my volcanic rock, and deliver the rest of his faction to you, like that." She explains, snapping her finger.

"I...what?" You respond, still taken aback.

"What's there not to get? Me fight Aulus. Me win." She mocks you with an ape-man way of speaking.

"You want to fight Aulus?" You begin.

"That's what I said." She cuts you off once more.

"The man who claims he could've changed the tide of the Clan's fate in the war many years ago." You affirm, looking at her seriously. She scoffs at your trepidation.

"Yeah, what about it? You actually believe that old coot? Thought everyone could tell he's just puffing his chest out." You nod, somewhat in agreement and then grimace.

"Yes but it if he's telling the truth...or even half of it then..."

"What you don't think I can win?" She snaps at you. You roll your eyes in exasperation.

"Aerius, talk some sense into your sister." You speak out to light-silver, almost white-haired sibling, the reason of the group. She sighs heavily and turns to her sister.

"Magna, he has a point. If Aulus is as strong as the legendary Earth King, The Grass Emperor, then not even you, nor all of us combined, could hope to win." She informs her sister politely. She then turns to you. "And Magna has a point as well. It's highly unlikely that he's even close to that level. So her plan isn't terrible...though I would prefer to talk things out. Make him see reason, that everything isn't about war and battle. Let him see that we need to take this time to heal and mend the great scars that run deep within the clan." Her words leave you almost speechless.

"Wow, that was beautiful." Magna responds sarcastically. Aerius doesn't take it as such.

"Why thank you sister." She says with a smile. Well that's one way to handle that. Now for the third of the anomalies...you turn to see Gaius, your old childhood friend, lazing about, hands behind his head.

"Gaius, what do you think?" The one brother of the group, with dirty blond hair, barely turns his head in your direction and opens one eye. He then shrugs.

"Iunno. Whatever Magna said sounds good. Less work for the rest of us. Work smart, not hard." He...tries to say in sagely tone, but overall it's just lazy.

"I see. Well let's get the opinion of the other two-"

"The kids?" Magna recoils in disgust. "The hell would we care about what some kids think? I don't even know why they're with us in the first place!" She exclaims loudly, earning her some dirty looks from said kids.

"I told you." You say, exasperation covering your voice. "Those kids are smarter than all of us. So yeah I want their opinion." Magna scowls and Aerius appears taken aback.

"Smarter...than me?" You ignore the directed question and wave the two children over to you.

"Hey, we were discussing our first move as a faction. It's clear that Aulus is the one to go after first and we were trying to figure out how to approach it. Got any ideas?"

"Aulus...he's the one who..." Omare's face darkens into a scowl, but quickly returns to normal. "He's the one who blames the Akachi for everything isn't he? And his solution is war?" You nod in affirmation. "Then he's a fool. Fighting the Akachi Clan after they've already wiped you out and you have not 1/10th the man power as before is foolish at best, suicidal at worst. I'm not sure a fool such as him can be convinced but...I'd start with that. The bee does not fight the Dragon who destroyed its nest. He avoids it and builds a hive elsewhere. And that's what you, what we should focus on. Building." His words bring silence to the group. Silence in contemplation for you and seemingly Aerius, silence in...complete laziness for Gaius, and a different kind of silence in Magna. Which she promptly breaks.

"You would defend the Akachi. Look at you, you're probably one of them! We should just bring you to Aulus and offer your head on a platter. It'll be the easiest thing we do."

"Easy? I'm up for easy." Gaius chimes in. Aerius however shakes her head.

"Sister that's not-"

"Try it and it'll be the last thing you do." Omare surprisingly meets Magna's antagonistic energy. This only causes her to smile wide as she readies her magic.

"Bring it pipsqueak. Akachi or not, you're ten. You're not touching someone as good as me." Omare narrows his eyes and clenches his fist.

"If you knew who I was, you'd know better." Kasim touches his shoulder and shakes his head.

"Omare, don't."

"She threatened our lives! As the-" Omare seems worked up, trying to explain himself.

"Omare." Kasim says quietly, cutting him.

"Fine." The young boy grumbles, almost pouting at not getting his way. Kasim rolls his eyes in exasperation.

"Aren't you the one who believes combat's beneath you?" Omare shakes his head.

"I did, but uncle...I was taught different. Besides, she'd be worth it." He motions toward Magna who grins with a bloodthirsty look.

"Any time. I'm always here for you. Just let me know exactly when it is you wish to die and BOOM! Volcanic rock as your tombstone." Omare breathes heavily through his nose and looks to start again and you've had enough. What would you do?

About Aulus?

[] Listen to Magna's suggestion, let her fight him.
[] Try to convince him that fighting wasn't the answer, as Aerius said
[] Warn him away from the Akachi Clan like Omare wanted
[] Kasim...wait you didn't ask Kasim did you?
[] Turn over the two kids to him on the chance that they're Akachi. That should placate him. Magna wasn't completely wrong.
[] Write in something else/some combination.

About Magna and Omare's fight?

[] Nothing. Watch. Let them get it out of their system.
[] Organize a spar between them. Non-lethal only.
[] Stop it. Now as no time for inner fighting
[] Ask Aerius to reel her sister in.
[] Scold Magna for starting with a kid.
[] Ask Kasim to reel Omare in.

Hrrm. Here's my take:
Kid ain't wrong, less then 1/10th and we're gonna be sore about it? Yeah not only will the Akachi have the manpower advantage but they'll be just waiting for us to try our luck, and have plans in place in case a bunch of angry Gaians roll up and try to fight them.
Magna's probably also right, in that this guy sounds like the first of many foes, and thus someone we could probably defeat easily enough-I doubt his power's genuinely that good, and if it IS That good, it further emphasizes the point Omare made- that the Akachi are too powerful to fight and they'll probably have a plan in place for angry Gaians taking a swing at them.

However, there's a few concerning things.
One: Omare's loyalty, or at least the perception of it: We could really use a way to get people off his back about that.
Two: Magna's hot-headedness. THAT worries me big-time, especially with the fact she and her siblings are a three-set. It means someone could aggro Magna, duel then end her rightly, and probably aggro the other two into a foolhardy charge.
...
Okay so here's what I'm thinking.
[X] Write in something else/some combination.
-[X] Let Magna challange him, perferably non-lethally, if he's as good as he says, it would be shame to risk his might, and Magna's gifts are rare as well.
-[X] But also warn him away from attacking the Akachi- they laid us low, they'll expect us to want to try a round 2. Let us build, and at least force them to come to us if they're inclined to continue the feud.

As for the fight...
[X] Stop it. Now as no time for inner fighting.
Frankly, we're too few to lose one of our greats to in-fighting like this.

Aulus' Faction: Group Decision
You step in between the two trash-talkers, dissolving some of the tension as you make sure to keep them separate.
"Relax. If you two want to fight it out, we can do that." Both of their expressions change to one of surprise and then joy. "In a spar." Their expressions fall.

"A spar? Seriously!?" Magna almost shouts. "I want blood, guts, burns, dominance." Omare scoffs at her words.

"Don't be so eager to leave this world." He pauses for a moment. "And keep your debauchery to yourself." He adds in as a taunt. Magna turns bright red in both anger and embarrassment.

"You little brat! I'm going to make you eat those words!"

"What, in a spar? Don't make me laugh." Omare taunts her, incredulous.

"Doesn't matter if it's a spar, a fight to the death, or the battlefield, I'll burn and bury you in any form of battle." She lashes out.

"Prove it then." Omare spits back, confidently.

"Later." You say, stepping in between them again. "Now back to Aulus." Next you turn to Omare's friend. "Kasim, what do you think?" You ask suddenly, noticing that you never got his opinion. The young boy looks surprised at your inquiry but quickly settles himself and clears his throat.

"I uh...I agree with Omare for the most part. Less emphasis on the Akachi Clan though, and more on well...any clan. In the state the Gaea's in, they shouldn't be doing anything at all besides rebuilding." He says quietly. You nod at the sensible words, but the decision's been made. With a breath you turn to the entire group and project your voice.

"We're going with Magna's plan." You stop and turn to the fiery sibling. "Magna, you're going to be fighting Aulus in a one on one battle." Magna grins wide.

"I'll put that old timer six feet under." You shake your head.

"No, it's going to be non-lethal, just like your spar, winner takes all. We're not risking losing a valuable member, either way. Yes, even Aulus will be valuable to us." Magna scoffs.

"If I kick his ass, I don't see why he's so valuable." She mutters. With a sigh, you turn to her, a serious expression in your eye.

"Magna are you weak?" She's taken aback by the question and begins sputtering.

"N-n-no! Why would you-" You cut her off quickly.

"Then why would Aulus losing to you make him not valuable?" She goes to open her mouth, but you put your hand up. "Think about it." She shuts her mouth and pouts.

"So, are we fighting first, or we handling the old guy first?" Asks Omare, cutting in.

That's...a good question. On one hand you didn't want to weaken Magna, but if she wasn't even the most powerful member of the group then is letting her fight for you such a good idea? Would this push back your plans? Then again it'd allow time for Tarpeius to return. You were eager to have your best friend and overall support system here to back you up.

That aside, would you have the spar now?

[] Yes, spar now.
[] No, do Aulus first.

And if they spar who will you control?

[] Magna
[] Omare
[] Neither, just observe.

[X] No, do Aulus first.
United front. Plus, if I'm right the sparring is mostly due to Magna's Bloodlust, and Omare's more just torn between putting her in her place/proving he's not to be trifled with.

[X] Neither, just observe.
Not that I'm against playing as them, but I'd like to make this about seeing their perspective viewpoints, and we won't get that if we're busy trying to figure out how to lodge our blade into Magna's skull/how to roast Omare before he starts shanking.

Aulus' Faction: The Fight Starts
"We're handling Aulus first. Can't risk your spar getting out of hand and crippling us against him. He's the priority and we need to act like it." You pause and look over the entire group. "So let's head out to meet him."

The group heads out quickly, despite Magna's silent grumbling about not getting to 'put the midget in his place.' You contemplated doing...something, leaving a message, a sign of where you were going so that Tarpeius could catch up to you, but everything you could think of would allow more malicious parties to do the same. You ask Omare since he seems smart but he shakes his head.

"I don't know enough about Tarpeius to make something tailor-made to him. We could make it so that only Gaea can follow, but given the state of the clan..." You nod in understanding as he trails off. Many of your enemies were Gaea at the moment. So it wouldn't help much.

Four hours later you arrive at a suspiciously large mountain that appears to have erected itself and reaches high into the clouds. Outside the mountain sit about fifty guards all around it, all of them being older Gaea warriors, usually retired, and a lake covering the east and south side (the warriors standing on top of the water).

You cautiously walk to the entrance of the mountain, made out of hard rock, and approach the guards sitting in front, very aware that you're surrounded and outnumbered.

"We're here for Aulus." You say with authority. The guards all look towards you when you do. They stare for a moment until the guards covering the front step aside.

"He's been expecting you." You nod and continue in, noticing them all giving suspicious glares to the two brown-skinned children behind you.

You walk in and see more guards ready to lead you. You follow them for a few minutes until you reach the center of the mountain, walking straight through as the earth itself moves out of your way of it's own accord. Suddenly you're in front of the old warrior, an older man with white hair and a long grey beard, sitting down with worn Gaea armor covering his arms, legs, and torso.

"So youngblood, why are you here?" He asks after a moment of silence.

"My faction wishes to have you join us-" You being as he cuts you off.

"Me? Join you? Especially with those two abominations there behind you? Don't make me laugh, boy!" He barks out, chuckling mirthlessly.

"I understand that, Aulus. You...hold an unhealthy grudge against the Akachi. And those two boys, share their appearance. But we're not here to sway you with words."

"Oh?"

"We challenge you to a non-lethal, winner takes all duel. One on one." You inform him. He throws his head back and laughs.

"You wish to fight me? I accept. Come on and bring it boy." He states, getting up and cracking his neck, stretching his arms.

"I'm glad you accept, but I won't be fighting. She will." You say as you step aside and let Magna walk through.

"Don't worry gramps, I'll be gentle." She says with a grin. He raises an eyebrow.

"A girl? A female? Back in the day...tch. Fine. If you want me to beat a woman to death, then so be it." He replies with a sneer.

"Non-lethal-" You begin to correct him, but Magna cuts you off.

"I'd like to see you try, old man!" She challenges him.

Well looks like the fight would begin. Will you control Magna or let her handle it.

A) Yes, control her.
B) Nope, better to watch. She's got this.
