Reaching for the Stars - A Stargate Quest

Just saying that Ferreti's suggestion can lead to us making beginning inroads into Chulak diplomatically. Of course, we can't do much right now about that, especially without Teal'c, how limited we are militarily and technologically at present, and it still being occupied, but it can be a start.

It's a shame Teal'c isn't available for this mission though, it severely limits what we can accomplish. That said, we can and should return at some point in the future, since that isn't even our present objective.

I don't suppose Teal'c told us about any potentially friendly contacts he might have on the planet. Bra'tac or Drey'auc, for instance?

[X] Take Ferreti's suggestion. The teams will split up and hide in the forests to observe enemy movements while SG-1 and Dr. Jackson try to learn more

@Azel since it isn't explicit is assuming this is also a night insertion correct?

[X] Try Yi's idea. SG-1 will make a dash for the forest while SG-2 and SG-3 will engage Jaffa patrols and reinforcements at the gate before falling back to Earth. SG-1 will be on their own from there on out.

IMO this plan is preferable since it gives us a chance to have people on the planet without the enemy knowing about it. Any other plan means the enemy can move in reinforcements and lock down the gate and would have the incentive to do so. And in the end we don't have enough people for a stand up fight.

More cynically it also means two thirds of our troops are coming back home with minimal risks meaning we are still going to have troops tomorrow... Since our troops could end up stuck that might matter.

Yi's plan maximizes the likelihood that our troops will get stuck, by depriving them of backup and a chance to call for help (since there would be no help on-planet, the only way to call for any would involve dialing the Stargate, and a team in straits desperate enough to try that is unlikely to succeed). We took the recruitment option last turn in order to be able to commit as much manpower to this mission as reasonable, it behooves us to use it.

We can dial in and use radios... But in the end the point is that three teams can get stuck just as easily as one. Our enemy has thousands of troops and we have dozens at best. Stealth is IMO our best bet making it in and out with our people intact. If the enemy knows we are there our troops can get in tons of trouble.

And really dispersing makes it more likely they'll find some of our people. And then what? We started this mission to rescue our people and if we get more of them caught our situation gets worse not better.

So I just had a fun idea to screw with anyone who tries to capture our people: set up a Fake alpha site loaded with automated defenses. Them if anyone is capture they are trained to give that location up. An automated Iris set up combined with a bunch of motion tracker operated turrets (armed with M2 mgs and Staff weapon gatlings) will make them think it's. Major base so they will spend a shitload of resources breaching the gate or grid searching the planet to find were we stuck the fake base.

Not a very good one, especially since they can pluck information out of people's minds by cramming a Goa'uld in.

My biggest concern with the mission is lack of intelligence, which is why I favored the plan that learns the most the fastest. I think it also plays to our techs (sights and night vision especially) and makes most effective use of Daniel.

Speaking of information, I hope the style of map is helpful in that regard. My intent is to convey most tactical information by map and only have the broad strokes in the narrative to not bog everything down by listing troop numbers for half a chapter.

I'm watching the Stargate SG-1 show for the first time. I seriously want some of the tech they're showing off. Clean energy alone would be a godsend. We can switch the base away from the diesel generators.
