A whole extended family of rich arrogant young masters scrabble against each other for dominance, unless there's an external threat, when we'll all unite.

Ch. 1
When one asks, "Would you like to wield vast cosmic might and become a god?" You say yes. Regardless of your station it is human nature to reach for more. So it is that when the great sects perform their yearly examinations to determine who deserves to be taught, they are met with a glut of applicants. Hundreds of would be demi-gods listlessly wonder in the field around you, waiting for instruction, waiting for a chance.
A chance to claim power underwhelming.
Yes, everyone knows that wielding qi can grant powers untold, but you are special. They imagine themselves as characters in story books. They dream of becoming them because most have never met them. You have a distinct advantage over them. You were far more intimate with the realities of cultivation.
Why just this morning you remember walking into your kitchen to find your brother drooling on the floor, surrounded by pastries and elixirs. The heady smog of qi so thick that even your yet mortal nose could sense it. You'd had to have your servants prepare your food for you, lest you suffer the indignity of awakening your godhood from the fumes a half eaten apple tart.
Still it was nowhere near the depths of depravity that your own parents had displayed before they sent you to your brothers home. There was a reason you had no less than two hundred siblings, all of varying distance from you on the family 'tree' if only it could be so clean.
In fact you where fairly certain that you could see a few of them in the crowd now, their -

- hair giving them away as surely as yours did. Like you they had all been staying in the homes of relatives around the region. While you would surely butt heads against them in your stay here, you were far from the only notable family present and while your priority would ever be to ensure your own ascension; It was a close second to proving the superiority of your bloodline. While you were already better than the average peasant due to the quality of your birth, even among your peers you were quite pleased with your-

[] Beauty. Even now you drew the attention of those around you. It was rare for anyone to approach you without a blush on their cheek and it hardly needed to be said that people fell over themselves to please you.
[] mercantile mind. While you couldn't deny that your families money made things far easier, you were adept at making a pretty penny and thus had far more money than even your families feeble allowance afforded your peers. Servants, drugs, cultivation were all but a coin away.
[] Spirituality. Your tutors told you that your soul was particularly vibrant and every measurement they had done said that your cultivation would soar as soon as you awakened.
[] Luck. While your parents had been disappointed that nothing seemed unique about you. You had realized over the course of your life that things just tended to work out for you. Sometimes to an almost absurd degree.
[] Fiancé. While it may have started as an arranged marriage, a real connection had bloomed between the two of you and as your eyes met from across the crowd, you knew that things would be alright.
Clearly your confidence must have spoken for itself as a timid little boy approached you. You patiently waited as he mustered his courage as he ran his fingers through his feathered hair.

I worked in jewelry for two years. Emeralds are very expensive and kind of hilariously fragile. Got a diamond? It might get dirty, but clean it up and it's still a diamond. Sapphire? Ruby? Good luck accidentally damaging them. Gold? Soft for a metal, but doesn't corrode, and continues to wear well for long periods.
Emeralds, on the other hand, get this sort of... sand-blasted look pretty quickly. It's not easy to find pictures of it online, because, like, that's the last thing a jewelry sales crew wants you to see if you're considering getting one. But, in short, if you expose an emerald to the elements for long, it'll get worn down and look old and used-up.
That's kind of a funny association for a clan of would-be immortal cultivators.

You know, that beautiful emerald look that gets sandblasted away by reality. Except for us, we'll definitely beat the odds, or my name's not
