Thanks for letting us know! Though, to be honest, I never assume a Quest or Fanfic is Dead until the OP says so themselves.

Hello everyone. Sorry it's been a while...again.

But, finals are finally over, my classes are set for next Term, and Christmas shopping is done.

Expect the next update in either by Tuesday or Christmas.

Hope I haven't kept you all waiting too long.

You take your hand away from your chin and shake your head. Mark's hand falls alongside his face as you say, "Sorry, Mark. This 'Program' of yours doesn't sound very appealing. No matter how nice it sounds, I don't like the idea of becoming a lab rat."

Just as the man starts to look completely downtrodden, you give him a smile, "But, I do like the idea of becoming a Negotiator. I do need a job, and talking to other mythics sounds...interesting."

Mark's spirits raise immediately, his mustache rising along with his smile. He brought his hand back up and you shook it heartily. He let out a deep sigh as he let go, "You have no idea how stressful that was. I'll be honest, I thought you would've told me to go kick rocks and take you home. Not that I wouldn't do that. It's just I'd really like it if you joined our Association."

"Really?" you raise an eyebrow, "Why is that?"

"Does it have anything to do with the fact that I am here?" Ana ask, tilting her head questioningly.

Mark quickly waves his hands back and forth dismissively, "No! No! It's...well...let's just say that when you've been here as long as I have, having a normal person to talk to is a blessing.

He must notice your confusion, because he quickly says, "It would be better if you saw it for yourself. Anyway, follow me to my office. It's just down this hallway. I'll explain everything as we walk."

"I would hope so," Ana says as Mark turns around, "informing prospective employees of what their new job entails is the least the employer can do."

She pulls on your shirt with one hand, and you unconsciously pick her up. You carry her in your arms while following the mage, your imagination already running wild with what you might be doing.

The mage starts his tangent as you pass by a closed off-white door, "So, Negotiator. Kind of glad you picked that one. It is the...well 'safest' wouldn't be the word I would use. Least dangerous? Sure, that works. Cutting to the chase, you'll be in charge of going from place to place, finding mythics that are causing trouble or might be unsatisfied with their current living situations. Primary clientele will be mythics, but there will be some humans sprinkled in there."

"Query," Ana starts while holding her head against your neck, "What exactly constitutes 'mythics causing trouble'?"

"Exactly what it sounds like. Hurting innocents, bringing attention to themselves or others, and over all causing undo damage to their own surroundings. Usually it's due to some slight that, to the mythic, is a massive insult or problem. You'll mainly only need to explain the context behind what happened to calm them down. Manage that and they'll go right back to business as usual...probably.

Before you can ask about the "probably" Mark turns around and starts walking backwards. He claps his hands and continues, "The other type of clients you'll be dealing with are ones that we've already handled. These are mythics or their offspring that we've got written deals with. They are expected to uphold their end and we do the same. However, as I'm certain you're aware of, things change with time. Environments, populations, and feelings over certain circumstances. And these deals of ours need revision or re-negotiating every now and then."

"That's where I come in," you searchingly ask, ignoring your impulse to touch the walls around you. You've got this weird feeling that doing so will make something really bad happen to you.

"Yes, and no," Mark replies, turning his back to you, "While you have clear experience with mythics and the supernatural, you're still relatively new to this whole thing. We're not going to drop you into the deep end and expect you to swim without knowing what you're doing. So first you'll be going through Basic Training and shadowing more experienced Negotiators. Then, when you're ready, you can do some actual field work and stop being a Trainee. Ah, here we are."

The mage stops moving in front of a set of double doors at the end of the hallway. You stop too, your gaze traveling up to the plaque hanging above the door. Mark's name was printed on it in embossed letters with a ivory trim. You move your eyes back to Mark as he places a hand on the door. He turns to you and smiles, "This is my office. Horus should be inside along with a few people I believe will be very happy to see you."

Before you can question him he opens the door and walks inside. You follow him into a completely dark room, stopping when you lose sight of Mark. You hold Ana tighter while turning left and right waiting for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. Eventually, five bright lights flash on in succession, blinding you for a moment. You rapidly blink away the blindness and confusion, your eyes slowly growing accustomed to the change in illumination.

When you can finally see again, you feel your mouth gape open for a second time.

Standing in various poses, the lights at their backs casting their silhouettes to the ground, were five of the strangest people you've ever seen. One stood back to back with a human sized fairy, their eyes seeming to shift between a multitude of colors at once. One was hunched over, a monster with multiple arms and legs hanging over their back. One was being guarded by two creatures that looked like a mix of dogs and snakes. One sat on the ground, a blade as long as you are resting across his lap.

And, sitting with his legs crossed and arms behind his head as he leaned back in a swivel chair, right in the middle of them all, was Mark with Horus standing proudly on his shoulder.

"Now then," Mark said while leaning forward, placing an elbow on his knee, "Let's do this properly. Howard Craft. Welcome to the Mage Association. We look forward to watching you work."

Joined the Mage Association! New Job: Trainee Negotiator! You are No Longer Unemployed! New Actions Have Opened!

Talking With Blue/Conversing with Blue: 50 + 52 + 10 (Orator) - 25 (GE) + 5 (Child Form) + 10 (Godly Heritage) = 102 Artificial Crit

Blue took a large bite out of the toast he made, small breadcrumbs falling onto the plate in his lap as he did. You watched as he closed his eyes and savored the taste of the buttered bread in his hand, before audibly swallowing it with a happy sigh. He then ate the rest of the slice in one bite before picking up the next one and repeating the process.

You did nothing save sit on the left cushion on the couch while watching him eat. Normally, you wouldn't do this, especially to a strange kid that came into your house and started eating your food without so much as a "How do you do?" So, why were you doing it here?

Because Ana was doing the same thing thing on the boy's right. Her naturally inquisitive nature was, for some strange reason, completely focused on the young man in tattered clothing consuming heated wheat products.

...Heated, wheat products.

Why didn't you just say bread?

Being able to convince your daughter to bring him home with her was one thing. But gaining the attention of a hundred year old Eldritch Abomination within a day, to the point where it is willing to watch you eat? That's not something you're going to just glaze over. You're looking into that.

Then it dawns on you; You still don't know anything about Blue. Ana simply came home with him one day, said she met him in the park and...that's it! Not that you think Blue means you harm. It's just that...after everything that's happened you're a bit more cautious around strangers.

So, with no better chance than this, you cough into your hand and say, "So, Blue, do you have any family?"

The blue eyed boy stopped eating for a moment, scrunched up his face in concentration, then shrugged, "Sort of. Kind of. It's complicated."

"Oh," you say as he goes back to eating his toast, "Do they know where you are right now?"

"Maybe. Possibly. I don't know," he says in between bites while waving his hand up and down, "Can't contact them. Lost the means to."

"Then do you know where they are?" surprisingly, Ana is the one to ask this, scooting forward on the sofa to hear better.

Blue swallows another piece of toast before pointing a figure towards your wall, "Somewhere west of here...I think. I didn't mark them on the map before I lost contact, so can't give you anything accurate. I believe my niece is sailing to Hawaii currently."

"Map? Wait...niece?" almost as soon as you ask, Blue shoves a wrinkled folded up paper in your face. You gingerly take it, briefly questioning where he was keeping it, and unfold it. When you finish you find yourself holding a huge white piece of paper with black squiggles all over it. An eyebrow raises as you attempt to make sense of the chicken scratchings. This proves to be a losing battle and you eventually simply hand it back to Blue.

He takes it gingerly while leaning back in his seat, "Don't think they'll be coming for me anytime soon. Don't think they care that I'm gone. Speaking of, congrats on getting picked up by the Mages! You're moving up in the world."

He pats you on the back which catches you off guard. You chuckle while rubbing the back of your neck, "Oh, well, thanks."

"Watch the Fae," he said, his face suddenly very close to yours, "The deals it makes are only fair when it is not at risk."

With that Blue takes the plate in his hands, hops off the sofa, turns to look at both of you, then bows, "Thank you both for talking to me. Haven't gotten to talk anyone's ear off in a while. Good luck at your new job, Howard! We can talk more later, Anastasia!"

He waves to the both of you then walks to the kitchen with a smile on his face.

You look towards Ana, confusion sitting across your entire face as you search for explanations of what just happened.

For the first time since you adopted her, Ana simply shrugged.

Blue SLs Increased! New Knowledge of Blue Obtained!

Reading a Book: 1 + 10 (The Dice Are Kind) + 15 (Prodigy) + 15 (Potential) = 41 Success

Ana choice to read more of her psychology book to round out the day. She learned some more things, but most of it was simply putting what she already knew into practice. She almost seemed to pout when she closed the book, but refused to admit to such when you mentioned it.

No New Perks...yet

After everything else that took place today, you're soooo glad that going out to shop was an entirely boring affair. You're not sure you can take much more after joining the Mages and talking with Blue. What the heck was he even trying to say anyway?
