[X] Plan Aggressive Stance
It seems we can still fail important OPS checks even when on successful missions:I feel like I should point out that Mahou Shoujo is literally an Ops 2 mission. If you want to use ND on it to cover Black Swan that's perfectly valid, but Wolong is arguably the worst member to grab for it barring maybe Dreamcatcher?
Please think about OPS guys. There's an OPS check you failed that still haunts me.
She could be like Towarri: confirmed human, but with dysmorphic features. But do you think Lantern is human or not? She seems to have a more human personality and way of speaking than Hand does, given that she doesn't need a Speaker, but there's also all the imagery from Mona's first sighting of her.
I don't actually think it is less severe though? By working to guarantee Glass, which is genuinely much more likely for us to fail based on the numbers, we're able to get John up and running this turn. This boosts us up to 8 AP with another hero for the next turn and John is able to actually participate in his mission properly. Additionally, I'm expecting that the gift to Leizi is something that is worth quite a bit in some way and getting that sooner rather than later is a good thing. The shield gens and healing symbiote are very nice considering Hero Worship is a prominent hard mission for us and those give us extra outs. And Glass is the one whose failure state is the least dangerous, with MG seemingly the most. I'm not going to skimp out on something important simply because it's supposed to be easy when Break Glass going wrong is much less severe.
Hypothetical rewards we could have gotten is very different from weathering enemy action. We will not be in a worse position than this turn if Glass is unsuccessful, while I cannot say the same thing for Magical Girls. Wolong's OPS check can be the difference between understanding the Frozen Throne or not, no way I'm not going to put him on this mission. Even if you think the checks are easier.I don't actually think it is less severe though? But above all else, we are still in a massive AP hole, we are working to climb out of it but losing 2 AP now is very brutal. Since a lot of our missions just unlock more missions which cost more AP and we need to do due to their rewards. The failure state here is much easier to reach and in many ways is nearly as large of a setback for us!
No? That's just outright incorrect. Having an extra hero for one more AP next turn is not a hypothetical. Having John able to do his personal mission storyline is not a hypothetical. Not being two AP in the hole from a failed mission when we are already struggling with AP is not a hypothetical. Having a healing symbiote and more shield generators for Hero Worship or Grand Theft Person is not a hypothetical and arguably very wanted due to how Third Person's power seems to work! The AP and safety nets we lose from failing Break Glass are much worse than many other options loss wise currently.Hypothetical rewards we could have gotten is very different from weathering enemy action. We were there. Where were you Crusade??? I believe this is a necessary mission even without the new recruits thanks to Crusade.Cenotaph (AP 1, REPUTATION 3, OPERATIONS 2): You've had your private ceremony, but your team was beloved by many in the city. You owe it to them to let them mourn too. You owe it to your team. You owe it to yourself. Have a public ceremony to honor the fallen members of Justice Unlimited.
Lady Leizi: No public ceremony has been held in honor of those who fell in the QZ . . . or for Justice Unlimited's former members. The closest was that debacle at Christmas, and that self-indulgent insult cannot stand as the only memorial to those who actually gave their lives to protect Horizon. It would draw a clear distinction between Crusade and ourselves—namely that we actually served in the QZ—and it would give us an excellent opportunity to scout for potential candidates for Project Prometheus without arousing suspicion.
(Chance of permanent global +1 to REPUTATION, Recruit 2 to 4 low and medium tolerance candidates, Encounter with Crusade)
After we get heroic John which means we must give John Ambrosia this turn. Only way to get Ambrosia this turn is with Break Glass with Black Swan.Smoke on the Water (AP 1, ESPIONAGE 4, OPERATIONS 4): The Demon Flamez were a gang of metahumans notable for their lack of concern for collateral damage and their fire-based powers. They were inmates of Wonderland until recently, and word is they've made moves to secure their former territory in the Old Industrial District. Which makes it all the odder that you've received a private communication from one of their members asking for a clandestine meeting.
Lady Leizi: We can thank our renewed control of the Worker's Mitt for the tip I received on the Demon Flamez. Certain elements of the OID are desperate to renew their contract with Justice Unlimited. With Powers keeping a low profile, any chance the Demon Flamez had of being legitimized has gone up in smoke. This has driven their leader, Phlogiston, to abandon the pretense of civility and to rule the OID as his personal fiefdom. Unfortunately, this has attracted the attention of another would-be-monarch: Le Petit Prince.
In the middle of this is Sparksurfer telling every one of my informants that he wants to get himself and his sister, Jorōgumo, out and needs our help.
(Unlocks mission Fire in the Sky, Intel on Le Petit Prince, Chance of new metahuman DNA, +1 to control of OID, Chance of eventually recruiting Sparksurfer and Jorōgumo) [2 Turns Until Expiration]
Can't afford to let such a PR threat to continue any longer thanks to Crusade. Also continues Leizi Questline. Also I want Noelle for EB.Mahou Shoujo no Justice Unlimited (AP 1, HIT 5, ESPIONAGE 3, OPERATIONS 2): Good news! Justice Unlimited's new, affiliate hero-squad is a massive success. Bad news! Justice Unlimited doesn't have a new, affiliate hero-squad. What is happening?
Lady Leizi: . . . it appears a metahuman team themed like "magical girls" are going around and calling Justice Unlimited. Including taking contracts out in our name. To make things more unusual, my information network in their territory has been subverted. They haven't gone quiet—they're feeding me bad information. I would have no idea if one hadn't used his "duress" code phrase.
I have managed to get one piece of intel however: someone is going around and promising to give metahuman powers to any who joins "Justice Unlimited". At the same time, strange creatures made of ice have been staging increasingly coordinated attacks—creatures that look like pieces of The Frozen Throne. Something like this should rock Horizon to its core. So why is the Ghost Dragon Triad—the Triad my father used to lead—ensure no information finds its way out?
(Unlocks mission Puella Magi Justice Unlimited Magica, Chance of new metahuman DNA, Chance of + 3000 Income, Chance of eventually finding supplier of goldnine, Chance of eventually recruiting high-tolerance candidate, Intel about the Frozen Throne, Possible Encounter with Crusade) [2 Turns Until Expiration]
Even though taking the mission remains possible until the last turn until expiration, the narrative continues forward regardless for every turn we do nothing. If we wait until next turn the clones will surely be even smarter with more possible metas and there is a chance that Belle will have died.Hero Worship (AP 2, HIT 10, ESPIONAGE 6, REPUTATION 10, OPERATIONS 4) Following her sister's death, Yara Oliviera finds herself the new minority owner of 11% of the sharers of the largest megacorporation in the world. The exact number of shares her father, Jair Oliviera, needs to take control of said global megacorp. Even if it wasn't Yazmin's final request, it would be prudent to keep those shares out of his hands.
Lady Leizi: There have been numerous attempts at abducting Yara, all conducted by strange, armed men. Per Belle Sabreuse—the mercenary Yazmin hired to protect Yara until Justice Unlimited could get to her—the abductors are simple, unemotive, and poor improvisers. However, they're getting smarter and more dangerous, and the last batch even had a low-level metahuman in the mix.
These powers . . . it sounds like Socialite Butterfly has in interested in Yazmin's sister.
(Unlocks mission Reality Check, Chance of eventual sponsorship with Ọsanyìn—sponsorships grant Income and resources per turn, Chance of eventually recruiting a high-tolerance candidate, Chance of eventually recruiting Belle Sabreuse, Intel about Socialite Butterfly) [2 Turns Until Expiration]
Necessary for Ambrosia. Ambrosia necessary for Project Prometheus to empower John in time for Demon Flamez. Also might end up needing symbiote and shields asap. Need Black Swan to succeed.Break Glass in Case of Emergency (AP 2 , ESPIONAGE 8, OPERATIONS 10) Rakeem left you a cache of emergency supplies should the worst come to pass. He also left it hidden in a shipwreck at the bottom of the ocean floor. The ocean floor that has recently shifted due to the Leviathan's movement. This had better be worth it.
Lady Leizi: Rakeem took me fishing out here once. It was the first time we ever really connected. It might be nice to bring everyone else and see if the same magic still exists.
(+ 3000 Income, New Metahuman DNA, 1 of Mendicant's healing symbiotes, 3 of Valiant Silver's shield generators, 1 Ambrosia's worth of goldnine, a gift meant for Lady Leizi)
@Bitterman No time limit means it will remain available right???He's Got a Gun! (AP 2, HIT 7, OPERATIONS 10)
There is currently a high-speed chase ongoing as QUICK GORILLA has gone rogue. He's broken into the Dominion medical research facility where he was born and absconded with two "research subjects" who are also orangutans. Apparently they are quite valuable as Dominion has put out an "all-takers" assignment on Hero for Hire to capture QUICK GORILLA and return the subjects. And, yes, it appears QUICK GORILLA does indeed have a gun. One he knows how to use.
(Chance of alliance with QUICK GORILLA, Chance to expand Madeline's menagerie, Chance of +3000 income, Chance of +2 global REPUTATION) [Requirement: Menagerie Witch must be present on this mission].
If all goes well we will be able to acquire Yara and/or Noelle next Issue. So we could reach 3/5 in the following one.Wider than a Mile (AP 4, HIT 45, ESPIONAGE 36, REPUTATION 39, OPERATIONS 38): Moon River was the seventh member of Justice Unlimited. To the world, she was a super-advanced AI created by Valiant Silver. In reality, she was the world's greatest technopath, able to control technology like it was her body. The only problem was, she had no ability to sense the world aside from technopathy. She didn't even know where in the physical world her actual body was. And now she's disappeared. Everyone else is gone; you won't lose her too. Find her.
Lady Leizi: I will find you, Eve. I swear it.
Anansi: I know where Eve is. I can't tell you now. I took something . . . blocked it from even my own memory. It's hidden somewhere, but once I tell you then they will know. Let me know when you're ready and then be prepared to act immediately. Don't trust anything I tell you after this. It might not be me anymore.
(Recruit Moon River, Intel about Interlocutor, Intel about Valkyrie, Intel about King, Intel about the true nature of Jacob's Ladder, Encounter with Crusade, Unlocks mission Repatriation) [8 Turns Until Expiration] [RECOMMENDED: EXCEED-BEYOND and >= 3 Max Potency Heroes]
OMG!!!!! Most shocking part of update! (Wonder what NAT 20 gives us here? SM joins JU?)So . . . How 'bout Them Yankees? (AP 0) Black Swan has received a DM on Hero for Hire from Scarlet Maturity. He's invited her to a social outing. Wolong has given himself multiple debilitating headaches picking apart every possible outcome, but it truly appears that Scalet Maturity is just . . . kind of bored and wants to hang out. (Chance of random reward off rewards table)
Most likely Blue Skies. He clearly didn't want to fight us because of MW's age until he was forced to by his contract with Faust.Ain't No Rain on My Parade (AP 0): Madeline has enjoyed the good weather lately. The suspiciously good weather. The good weather that seems to only follow her around, even when it's raining elsewhere. She tried to pose for photographs during a thunderstorm "for the aesthetic", but the rain ceased as soon as she was outside. She wants her gloomy days back, and she will get to the bottom of all this . . . sunshine. (Chance of random reward off the rewards table)
I think it is time to close that chapter and give Gus' family closure over his disapearance/death.Lost Lenore (AP 0): Gus never told his parents that he was a metahuman, a member of SLAYERS, or that he had a boyfriend. He always wanted to come clean, but didn't know how. They don't even know how he died. Handyman feels like he owes it to them and Gus to let them know the truth.
(Chance of random reward off the rewards table)
Adamant's spirit lives on. Now to see if Chatelet will be any more succesfull. Less Heroes but More Kids (Mona,Maddie,Mammoth)You Live Like This?! (AP 0): Justice Unlimited was never the most organized . . . organization in the world, even before the Movement. Adamant did what he could, but he was just one man. Châtelet is used to a clearer chain of command and things like a "duty roster" and "paystubs". Maybe she can be the ally Rakeem always needed and bring order to the chaos. (Chance of random reward off the rewards table)
Meet the Pookies gives us candidates without threat of exposure. Go back to the end of the line.Justice Unlimited Wants You!: If you're going to make new heroes, you'll need candidates who are the best of the best. Your current crop is fine, but small. Get out there yourself and find new candidates for Ambrosia. (New low to medium tolerance candidates, number depends on DC, - 500 Income, DC 5 ESPIONAGE Check to avoid revealing Project Prometheus)
Need Ambrosia thus Broken GlassProject Prometheus: [No Ambrosia available, missing goldnine](Create new metahuman, -1000 Income)
Come here to the needles John.A Spoonful of Sugar: Dr. Ibis believes he can use refined goldnine to artificially boost a candidate's tolerance. Now you just need a candidate who's willing to give it a try.
(-2000 Income, Increase on candidate's tolerance by 1)
OMG!!! GA is nice but irrelevant. I REALLY WANT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!eTraction!: Dr. Ibis has apparently been trying online dating to no success. However, he's recently been approved for a beta-test of a new matchmaking software called "eTracation". All he has to do is allow them to film his first date with his match for "data collection purposes". It's a reality show. Dr. Ibis has somehow accidentally signed up for a reality show. Also, he's supposed to be dead. (The Meanest Thing to Ever Happen to Dr. Ibis, The Best Thing to Ever Happen to Dr. Ibis, +1 Global Action and New Global Actions Unlocked)
I'm not sure I would trust HIT 5 requirement to indicate that there won't be hard checks. To be sure there is a rough correlation, but OPS checks have appeared in missions with no OPS requirements. And Four Seasons, the mission where Scarlet Maturity showed up for battle, was rated with only a HIT 6 requirement. To be fair that probably goes for any story mission and is dependent on our choices during the mission.Mostly that Mahou Shoujo shouldn't actually be amazingly hard per our statlines and ND on Hero Worship is unfortunately dubious due to them having been copied in some aspect. Where Break the Glass is actually pretty high on Ops and Espionage, where Ops is by far our worst general stat.
3 ways I've seen players interpret the mechanic:Wolong's Insight—Once per mission where New Dawn is involved, Wolong can use his power to autocrit any OPERATIONS check.
I disagree. These are just lost opportunities and hurt, but again, It's not enemy action. We have someone using JU's name for their own ends to accomplish god knows what, that's way more important than lost tempo, even if the later is important. The AP and safety nets we lose from failing Break Glass are much worse than many other options loss wise currently.
I guarantee he hasn't seen this:Also frankly, Wolong has been studying the Frozen Throne already. They've been looking into it for the potential prison option there. The idea that the OPS 2 mission is going to give Wolong the key to figuring out the Frozen Throne that he wouldn't have gotten from the prior attempts to figure it out is just odd to me. The storyline is at least 2 total missions, if that is a realistic chance to get information wise I would fully expect it to be from the next mission as a high OPs one.
It's literally described as "information that would shake Horizon to its core" if it wasn't being suppressed. So I really, really want Wolong on this.At the same time, strange creatures made of ice have been staging increasingly coordinated attacks—creatures that look like pieces of The Frozen Throne. Something like this should rock Horizon to its core. So why is the Ghost Dragon Triad—the Triad my father used to lead—ensure no information finds its way out?
He's publicly dead, I really don't think that he is publicly connected to JU here.I must strongly advise against voting for eTraction. We are in a severe public relations battle against Crusade, Dr. Ibis is the least charismatic person in the company and should be kept well away from national television. I know we all love him, but I don't think the public will. Remember when he insulted Valiant Silver herself in his first meeting with LL??
Honestly, this is a valid argument for arguing Magical Girls over Break the Glass and is a plan I'd heavily prefer to the other ones so I'm down to approval vote this. Like, the main argument to put ND on Mahou Shoujo imo, is if worried about Crusade potentially showing up while still covering Black Swan being sent out to patrol.Another thing for not asking nd help in Break the glass. Is its gonna reveal to miss naught atleast that JU is messing around with goldnine just after crusade slandered us.
Now I trust wulong and Swan to clear things up even then but I feel thats a risk we dont need to take.
