Let's look for a ghost, it will be useful in the fight medal, although I would rather look for a standard Starly, or go straight for our own Gible

Question! Would it be possible for us to make sure that Cyrus doesn't go the Evil route?

So, which route gets us to reviving our fossil the fastest?

Much as I love ghost pokes, we really do not yet have anything that can damage them.

Best route for Fossil Revival would probably be Hearthome since it's on the way to Oreburgh, though up through Celestic, then Eterna and down is another way.

I don't want to say too much about Cyrus yet, but we've already seen things can be different from the Sinnoh standard what with the altered PokeDex for later Gens

Ah, I should also say that, this early in the Quest, you can still risk just throwing a PokeBall uin the Lost Tower, and the Mons there'll still be low-level enough for you to catch at least something. Plus Turtwig should be learning Absorb pretty soon, though that won't do much against Gastly.

That just honestly makes it worse for me. It means we'd go to the Tower just for the express purpose of capturing a mon.

We're a secret base specialist. Going the boring trainer route is just a waste of a good backstory, especially this early in the quest.

Maybe there will be a yamask in the tower?
Bulbapedia says no. And even if there is, and we were lucky enough to get one. Then what? It's not really the on I have issue with.

Just seems the Towerzs explicit purpose is to get a mon even when we just started. It just seems like this leads to us going the basic trainer route, is all.

Don't see the reason why we can't be both, especially since you can do both in the games themselves. Plus I don't see how catching more Pokémon automatically takes away from Secret Base stuff, it's not like I'm saying "Go challenge the Gym right now" or anything.

Not to mention I did have an event planned at the Tower, so it's not just another place to catch Pokémon.

Two big questions I think we need to resolve is what do we the players want to do in the quest, and also what does Evelyn want to do. Are we going out to become a pokemon master, dive into the unsolved myths and legends of sinnoh, go spelunking for riches, etc. Not that they are mutually exclusive, just so we have a focused goal or aspiration that we are trying to obtain. Not only will it probably help our awesome QM but ourselves in how we approach our votes and decisions.

I don't mind visiting the Lost Tower. I think some people seem conflicted with visiting lost tower is because of how its a specific vote, maybe as a conscientious decision on Evelyn's part that they will go to the lost tower for strong ghost type pokemon, not just a consequence of heading to Hearthome and passing by a mysterious spooky tower and going 'huh let's go take a look'. Since I don't think Evelyn the spelunking treasure hunter who just got their first pokemon and heading on a journey won't have their chance at reviving their fossil at the forefront of their mind will go 'ghost type strong let's go visit a graveyard to find one'. I guess it's a character vs story perspective on voting.

I'd guess Evelyn's short term goal is to restore the fossil, and her long term is glorious treasure, with maybe some hunting legends. But that doesn't me she won't rest nearby or at the Lost Tower and take a look.

Metawise not sure why a Yamask would be at the tower but we could find a questline for Spiritomb, a thematic blend of ghost type and treasure hunting.

Edit: Phone keyboards are slow and insidious killers.

Remove the red bits to make it fit the tally.

Also yeah, phone keys definitely suck. I had to fiddle with the size of the phone keyboard to make it as little of a bother as possible, and even then it still slightly sucks.

On the goals, anything that doesn't retread Cynthia and Cyrus' paths are fine with me really. As long as it is a fairly coherent idea is fine with me. It's when it becomes a mishmash of random short term nonsense that really bother me when it comes to these stuff. And I saw the Tower vote as the worst of both worlds.

As I said. I'll just wait and see how it all plays out.

Okay, Plebian's vote ended up getting counted twice for some reason, while Theadier didn't cross their votes (maybe they'd planned to do that later?), but either way Lost Tower wins and Hearthome definitely wins

The Open Road

Your route planned out, you followed Cynthia south from Solaceon, Cyrus having taken off in the opposite direction with barely a farewell for either of you.

"Well, off you go," Rowan at least offered "I suppose this will all be new to young ones like yourselves".

You had soon left your hometown to find yourself in a route crisscrossed by a river, surrounded by forests and even dotted with holes. Navigating this road might be easier if you had a Ride Pokémon handy due to the sudden pits and the sandy climbs out of them, but it still looked like you could make your way through here easily enough.

You could spot a couple of nearby grass patches that might do for your first Pokémon capture, though it was still obviously daytime, winter too, and you knew certain Pokémon would only appear at night or elsewhen in the year.

"Oh, making a capture?" Cynthia took notice "No offence, but I already had my team planned out beforehand, so I can't say I'll be joining you right now. But I guess you've already read up on how to catch a Pokémon?"

You swiftly nodded, and thought that even if you couldn't find anything interesting, Turtwig could use the training anyway. It soon became clear the local Pokémon were:

(You may select up to five Pokémon try catching, all Trainers having an active Team of Six, and can write-in nicknames)
[ ] Starly
[ ] Bidoof
[ ] Bonsly
[ ] Mime Jr.
[ ] Budew
[ ] Ralts
[ ] Vulpix
[ ] Psyduck
[ ] Take a chance (may find a surprise Pokémon)
[ ] Just train Turtwig

After you'd done, you turned around to see that Cynthia had suddenly vanished. Calming yourself, the most likely option there was that she'd just been impatient enough to head straight for that Lost Tower.
Said Tower loomed nearby, looking like a pale obelisk. It admittedly may not've been the best move to head in there after battling wild Pokémon, but you figured a place like it would be way more active at night anyway, and you just wanted to check if Cynthia was around, so you figured you'd be okay.

As you stepped into the cemetery, you didn't see much beyond the gravestones and light yet thickening mist, just a Gastly or two and what looked like a Woobat. However, as you cautiously took more steps in, you could then hear what sounded like an... argument of some sort?

There were voices coming from the upper floors, one of which you certainly recognised as Cynthia's. "You're talking gibberish! You mean you're going to disrupt this place and mess with people's lives just for 'excitement'?" she spat out sharply at an unknown figure, leaving you tensing.

"Oh you wound us, little trainer girl. Our motives go beyond merely the personal," said a deep yet flowery voice belonging to a man who, you could see from your hiding spot down the stairs, was more than dressed for any occasion with a top hat and ruffled trench-coat "As Team Romantic of the Marchenreich, we exist to put wonder and magic back into all people's lives".

A girl, also part of Team Romantic you guessed from her puffy Victorian princess dress, chimed in with "The good citizens of Hearthome downwind toil their uneventful lives away, so while it may be... difficult for the uncultured to appreciate, by creating an especially memorable event for them, we'll be making their existence much more meaningful".

"By releasing the fog from here and siccing a horde of Ghosts on the city?!" Cynthia snapped at them, but the two Romantic Grunts only giggled in response.

"Just watch us" the man slyly smiled.

Glancing down and spotting you, Cynthia went "Evelyn? Hey, great that you're here. Listen, I know this may be asking a bit of you, but I need help taking these clowns down. I just hope they're not those Fairy-type users I've heard about..."

You hesitate, not knowing what to do, but it also occurs to you that, if you don't stop these two now, you'll be dealing with a much more serious Ghost swarm in Hearthome.

Well that's just rude, she could have at least said bye! :V

"As Team Romantic, an overseas division of the Marchenreich, we exist put wonder and magic back into all people's lives".
Interesting concept for a team, though I can't help but think that saying that they're a division from another group was too much for their introduction. That couldn't have been an interesting reveal down the line.

Ah yeah, guess the reason I put in the whole 'division of larger group' thing is because they're from one of my own fan regions, yet I thought they could still fit in Sinnoh as a contrast to the future Galactic. But yeah, I see how that could've been a bigger reveal.

so how committed are we to the 'turtles all the way down' bit? b/c ralts, budew, and starly are looking like good picks rn.

Well, I did say that the turtle theme would be for an early team, but I'm just gonna wait for everyone else's vote

exist to put

Also I agree that it would have been better to withhold the overseas division bit. Maybe as a tidbit the afteraction Officer Jenny can say?

@Lapin Lune to clarify, is the vote choices after the "who to send" one supposed to be a sub vote for the fight's strategy (like how I formatted mind above)? Because I think it needs clarifying either way.
