Phantom Doctrine - XCOM-like stealth tactics

LGear

Secret Society BLANKET
So an upcoming title that just caught my eye just now is this game, which is an XCOM-style turn-based tactics game focused on stealth and espionage, set in the 1980's in the midst of the Cold War:

Steam Page

The controls and even the layout of the UI are pretty much XCOM, but of course the game does have enough features to differentiate it, like the Breaching mechanic that allows two agents to simultaneously assault a room, silent takedowns, and more. Also, it's unusual and surprising how the agent customization isn't only cosmetic, but ties directly into gameplay as you need to change up your agents' appearances constantly to prevent them becoming identifiable.

Game releases August 14th, quite close!

On the one hand, I'm curious about how XCom-like this will be.

On the other hand:

set in the 1980's in the midst of the Cold War

I am really, really not liking this setting at all, mostly because it's probably going to be set from the viewpoint of either the US or the USSR, and not one of the many, many countries they stomped underfoot in their power plays.

Edit:

Actually, you're playing as "The Cabal", which is an organization that apparently recruits from both the CIA and the KGB.

Game description said:
As leader of a secret organization known only as The Cabal, you are charged with preventing a global conspiracy that seeks to pit leader against leader, and nation against nation. By carrying out secret missions, investigating classified files, and interrogating enemy agents, a sinister plot is uncovered. With the clock ticking, it must be thwarted in order to save the world from an unthinkable fate.

Take charge of the crucial counterintelligence operation: Recruit from both the KGB and the CIA, the criminal fraternity, or even utilise the unique talents of subjects of secret government experiments. Weapons, resources and contacts can be secured around the globe, enabling you to command from afar. But if the situation requires a hands-on approach, you will be locked, loaded and ready to fight.

I for one, welcome more turn based stealth games. Invisible Inc. was probably the trend setter but it's nice to see a more dedicated, down to earth stealth game. The America-Russo centric themes is interesting, and hopefully, the nature of the Cabal means we can play as agents from backgrounds that the Cold War has fucked over too.

The only other option is Mossad. :V
