There is a prophecy.

One day, Eight heroes would come to rid the world of evil
Seven would come from all over the world
One would come from beyond it
Seven will return triumphant
One will leave victorious
Seven may be remembered as heroes
One may forever be tarnished by their actions

A hundred years ago, a party of eight would travel the lands to defeat the Demon King and his hordes of monsters. Seven came from each of the Seven Kingdoms, and the leader claimed to have come from another world, not this one. In their final fight, their leader would fall in combat against the Demon King, winning the battle and defeating the Demon hordes. The Seven Heroes would return to their kingdoms, declaring themselves the protectors of the lands and dedicating all of it to their fallen friend.

The prophecy was not fulfilled.

Victoria Matterhorn was content with being a police officer. Every day from nine to five, she would come in, get her orders, then get in her car to patrol the streets of her city and keep its citizens safe. She didn't want to do any more than ensure her friends and family were safe. She wasn't a hero, she was just doing her job.

Then she died.

Then she woke up, in a strange new world full of wonder. Of fantasy races from the books she read as a child. Of magic and spells she from pages of fiction. By accident, she would begin a journey to save this world from those it once deemed its heroes, now their tyrants. Despite not being in her own world, Victoria still took an oath to protect the innocent and the civilians, and she will carry it out until the end.

Chapter One: In the Line of Duty

"Bishop, cover me!" I shouted, throwing up the sign for me to move forward.

Bishop gave me a quick head nod, flinching and ducking slightly as the rifle bullets continued to fly by. I returned fire, before rushing to the pillar across the entranceway, tossing the empty magazine out from my gun and throwing a fresh one in. I slammed into the pillar, shoulder first, before cocking back the slide and pulling out the radio with my free hand.

"5-Charlie-15 to Dispatch," I called into the mic, firing at one of the attackers. "Two officers wounded, two under fire at the Boyce Plaza in front of Darren University. Requesting additional backup, airship, and SWAT as soon as possible."

I hitched my radio and fired another couple of rounds at one of the gunmen, before ducking quickly as they returned fire. "Bishop, status on Jimmy and MacAllistar?!" I called out to her, crouching low.

My fellow officer reloaded her magazine as a burst from one of the gunman's assault rifles fired on her position. She ducked slightly as they clipped the pillar, chipping parts of it off. "Jimmy's stable, but his arm was broken and he can't hold a gun! MacAllistar managed to tape up his leg, but he can't move from behind the car!"

"So that leaves just us," I growled, sending a few more slugs downrange and pulling back into cover. A muted hit and a low groan told me I hit at least one of them, but that still left 5 more. "What's your ammo count?!"

She raised her arm up to cover herself, as she looked down at her belt. "Eight left in my gun, and two more mags. What about you?!"

I pulled back from the edge of the pillar, as I crouched to check my belt. "I have four left in the gun and one more magazine on me!" I shouted back, pulling forward again and firing on one of the gunmen, before hearing my gun go *click*. I groaned, tossing the mag out and putting in my last one. "Correction, no more mags, and 15 in the gun!"

Wordlessly, and quickly, Bishop pulled out one of her spare magazines and tossed it towards me, landing at my feet. I quickly bent down and slipped it into my belt. "Thanks for that!"
"No problem," she called out, taking aim and firing on the driver gunman. With several well-placed shots, they crumpled to the floor, dropping their gun on the pavement. She reloaded and holstered her gun, pushing up against the wall. "I'm going back for MacAllistar's shotgun, cover me!"

I nodded, putting both hands on my gun and pulling it up close to my chest, "Covering, covering!" I shouted out, and she broke from cover to bolt to the car. At the same time, I peeked out again to lay down covering fire on the gunmen in front of m-

…Boyce Plaza in downtown, Officer Victoria Matterhorn of the 5th Precinct was killed in the line of duty while assaulting a group of armed robbers that took up positions in the Plaza. She suffered a single high-caliber shot to her chest and was declared dead at the scene. The robbers were apprehended soon after, and a memorial service will be held at…

The first thing that Victoria felt when she woke up was a single droplet of water, then two, then several all at once. Just as she blinked open her eyes, it became a torrential downpour, and in the distance, a bright flash of light could be seen. Eventually, the sound of thunder met her ears.

"What the fuck…" she groaned out, trying to roll over, only to feel her skin meet a rough surface. She blinked some more, trying to see past the water pouring down her face, before wiping it off with her free hand and holding it as cover over her eyes.

Gravel, of course.

With her free hand, she rolled over to her belly and pushed herself up to her knees. She took some long draws of breath, standing there as her hair was very quickly soaked by the rain. Trying to stand, she found she could only bring one leg up before she nearly collapsed forward from exhaustion. She didn't feel tired physically, but mentally she felt drained and worn.

The gunshot. The robber had snuck up right in front of her to catch her by surprise and ended up putting a bullet into her chest, killing her almost immediately. She remembered being shot, she remembered falling to the floor. She remembered everything up until the sirens of the ambulance came into her field of vision before she blacked out.

She should be dead. Why wasn't she dead?

Breathing heavily, she stretched her shoulders backward, yawning slightly. Some rainwater got in her mouth, forcing her to spit it out onto the ground. Existential questions later, she had to get out of this rain.

She pulled out her radio, but when she flicked it on she heard nothing, not even static. She flicked it off and on several times, before checking the back of it and popping the shield open. No batteries.

Frustrated, she set the radio back on her belt, and checked on her gun. The water would be fine by itself, as lost as she didn't get silt or mud in it. She pulled out the mag to find all 15 bullets still in it. In addition to that, there was the one magazine Bishop tossed her, still on her belt.

Thirty rounds. If she had to get into a fight, that would last her for a bit, but she would have to make her shots count. She slipped the gun back into the holster and brought herself up to both feet, before looking around.

The road led in only two directions. With the rain still pouring down, she couldn't tell where each of them would bring herself too. Sighing, she pulled a coin out from her pocket.

"Heads I go left, tails is right," she determined, putting the coin on her thumb and throwing it in the air. She caught it coming down, and opened her palm up. Tails.

"To the right it is," she declared, pulling out her knife, She went to a nearby tree, and carved 'Vicky' into it, with a arrow pointing to the right. Stepping back and admiring her work, Victoria began to make her way in her chosen direction.

The town was named Lakeside.

Which is odd, because there was no lake.

When Victoria passed by the entrance sign, what she found was a giant hole in the ground, bordering the town. At first, she thought it was an open-top mine or something similar, given its size, but then she saw all the decaying fish bones, and the deteriorating canoes and boats out on the waterbed. The rainwater washed this all down to the center, where there seemed to be a river running through the water in the same direction she came from.

*Fwshoom*

A massive gout of flame burst out from the center of the town, and several ear-splitting shrieks could be heard from inside it, as well as the fainter sound of commanding voices shouting.

"What the hell was that?" She breathed out. A flame that large would have to be a gas main going off, but there was no sound of an explosion nearby. She pulled out her pistol and rushed forward.

She made her way into town, only to find that the entire town square was covered by some enormous bubble, leaving the inside completely dry, though that made the scorch marks on the ground more prominent.

She stepped forward to see a massive gathering of townsfolk, dressed like something out of a medieval book, corralled into the center by a group of people, all in black and blue robes. Most of them were brandishing knives or swords, but one of them, at the far end, held his hand up, a red flame dancing in it.

"I won't say it again," the man with the flame growled, taking a step forward. "Where are they?! Where is the Blue Knight?!"

"P-please, your grace," one of the townsfolk pleaded, prostrating before him. He wore robes of his own, though they were all black. "We…we don't know what you're talking about!"

"Bullshit!" One of the other robes accused out loud, swinging her sword at a mother and child, who just barely pulled away. "We saw the signs, we know he has arrived! You are the only town for the next 10 days' travel, he must be here!"

"I promise you," the man in the robes begged, putting his hands up, clasped. "We are a simple fishing village, we don't know where your Hero is!"

The man with the flame in his hand gave a look of disgust. "I don't believe you," he stated, aiming his hand forward at the robed figure. Victoria gave a look of shock before it twisted into a face of determination as she stepped through the bubble.

"Police!" She called out, this time more forcefully, and aimed her gun at the group of robes around the townsfolk "Step away from them and put your hands in the-"

She never finished, as the man with the flame in his hands turned to face her, only for the expression on his face to flash into one of excitement and jubilation. "It's him, it's him!" He exclaimed with glee, as the rest of his group began to celebrate. "It's the Blue Knight! He's come in our time of need!"
The…what?

AN: Is it generic? Absolutely. Tell me something new.

I tried my best and will try my best not to make this like every other isekai anime story out there. Just trust me, I swear.

Anyways, please send me feedback. I don't like the way Victoria is written, but I don't know what's wrong specifically. Thanks!
