So for example, if we thought the illness was caused by a mind affecting curse taking effect...wait, can we check for that? The chapter was a bit confusing to tell if someone was under the effect of the plant curse or not.

It's obvious she's connected to the plants and it looks like there is something wrong with them.

That's peculiar.

Maybe it has something to do with the local water source. It's probably how it spread to both the plants and people, since the latter would probably use it on the former. But the question then becomes why their family has been affected as it has. Hmm..questions questions..

Simply because I want votes I'll give you guys a hint; If it had something to do with the water Mipha would be just as sick as Irene.
 
Then... I suppose I wouldn't be far off in guessing that it has to do with her being the Forest Maiden?

Irene would be more sensitive to plant life because of that, right?

The trees most likely died when Irene fainted because Irene is the Forest Maiden. Sympathetic magic and all that

Malon's sister reacted when a Deku Baba was killed.

So again, @ImmortalsBlade, do we have ways of checking if Irene is under magical influence or not?
 
The plants are obviously affected in some way, but eating them doesn't spread it. Otherwise everyone would be affected as has been said.
 
Maybe consuming the plants is simply one part of the curse, and it has react to with something else that we haven't been exposed to yet.

would like for everyone who voted up to this point to edit and change 'boarded up' to 'boarded-up' as its registering as an error, also add a comma after 'point' as that is also popping up as a grammar error. Grammarly comes in handy in this case.

I'll combine votes that have minor spelling changes so it isn't a big deal. If the votes exactly the same but with corrected spelling or something easy enough to just combine them in the vote tally.

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like a funny conspiracy gag, board and all? I know this is supposed to be serious, but now I can't remove the image of our party in front of a conspiracy board, one of us looking like they're going mad as they try to explain the entire thing to everyone else.
