Hospital
"I wish I did. Then you could catch those thugs." You shook your head. "I don't know what he's been doing in New York, last I knew he was on a research trip in Africa."

The investigator gave a grunt and noted that down. "We'll do what we can."

You nodded. You headed to the hospital to check on Jackson. He was in surgery when you arrived. You were quick to make sure the hospital was aware to bill you for everything, and that you would be willing to pay whatever was necessary to make sure he got the best care possible.

He mentioned his notes. Can we just grab those and read them at the hospital? Should have included grabbing them in the last vote.

On one hand I worry that they might try to finish Jackson off in the hospital. On the other there might be something time sensitive going on. Or they might return to the hotel to destroy evidence.
Hmm, maybe arrange for security if we have to leave? Not sure who we could trust though, and any of our supernatural friends couldn't exactly hang around without issues.

-[X] A hospital is the bridge, a doorway in the human world between life and death. Go to hospital cafeteria. Break your fast and set up a Prayer to Isis, channeling the energies of this place so Jackson may survive his ordeal. Whisper to the goddess off Jackson's bravery, a fellow comrade in the fight against the dark. His work is not yet done.
-[X] Subtly paint mystical eyes around the hospital, with Isis's mark so you may detect hearts heavy with the sins of the world.
-[X] Use Nemo's senses to see if you still have splashes of the cultist's blood on you or Jackson. Secure them if so, you want to later use them to see if you can track the rest of their essence. You will find what they are and unravel their schemes like the many more that came before them.

[X] Pursue
-[X] Decide if you want to hire guards to ensure Jackson's security. Can you persuade the investigator to put security detail and impress upon the hospital staff that this is a high profile journalist who just survived an attempted murder?
-[X] Subtly paint mystical eyes around the hospital and set up a portal inside so you may return at a moment's notice. Consider asking Emily to watch over Jackson if the chaos of the hospital isn't too much for her to endure.
-[X] Remember to use Nemo's senses to identify if you still have splashes of the cultist's blood on you or Jackson. Secure them, you want to use them to track the cultists.
-[X] Head to Jackson's hotel room to retrieve his notes. Remember to take a portal portrait with you.

I can't think of any other ideas. We could send Phileas into Jackson's dream. Talk to him that way?

[X] Speak
-[X] Talk to inspector to convince him to arrange security detail. Ask if Emily is willing to watch over you two while you..
-[X] Use Phileas to dive into Jackson's dream, to speak to him about the threat.
-[X] Paint his dreamself with the colours of vitality to help stabilize him.
-[X] Before heading into the dream remember to use Nemo's senses to identify if you still have splashes of the cultist's blood on you or Jackson. Secure them, you want to use them to track the cultists.
-[X] Consider not bringing guards if you anticipate it will make things harder for Emily or your dream quest.

Talking to Jackson in his dream would be such an interesting scene! I want to see what Blacksheep envisions a reporter's mindscape as. How his interviews amd writing translate over in the dreamscape. There is the ongoing surgery too that might affect his mindscape, a limbo.

It's also been a long while since we invoked Isis.

Just the Start
You talked to the police, making sure they understood your concern about the criminals coming back to finish Jackson off, and supplying a generous donation to the department for them to station a police officer in Jackson's room at all hours to watch him. The best that you could you were going to make sure that he survived this.

You dug out your paint after that and carefully began to paint eyes across the room, infusing them with protective watchfulness. You wouldn't be able to look through the eyes directly, but you should be able to receive a warning from them if something happened. The paint you chose was close to the color of the walls, so it should hopefully go unnoticed. It wouldn't do any good if someone tried to clean it up, or moved what room Jackson was in.

You wanted to set a door leading to Jackson's room, but you simply didn't have the time to do so. It was annoying. Doing magic through painting tended to be slow. Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to look into faster methods of accessing power than the rituals you currently used. The spells you did know were mostly defensive ones against the dead and the fat vampires. They had saved your life and others, but they were not all purpose.

You weren't going to just wait for the police of course. You knew there was more to this case than just some humans being upset about Jackson finding out possible crimes they committed. He told you it had to do with Larkin. And that it was big. You headed back to his room and started digging.

You found the bag that Jackson tended to carry with him when doing his investigations and opened it up to rummage in. There was a copy of his book about the cult in Peru that he had written about as a warning about the fat vampires. There was of course several pencils and pens, along with his favorite brand of cigarettes. You found an old letter from a Warren Besart in Egypt that Jackson had received a couple years ago, discussing an individual named Faraz Najjar on the Street of Jackals who had in his possession a curios that Jackson would be interested in for his research into the land and its past.

You found an old business card for the director of the Penhew Foundation in London, and a recently finished matchbook from the Stumbling Tiger Bar in Shanghai. Lastly you found a blurry photograph of boats at a dock in China, with a large steam powered yacht and the letters D A R visible on its side. Unfortunately the full name of the yacht was hidden by the other boats in the dock.

[X] Head back to the hospital to check on Jackson's condition. But..
-[X] Secure the splashes of the cultist's blood, and head back to Red realm to see if you can make a sympathetic painting with Emily to use to track them. Something similar to the concept you used in the orphanage. Before you leave, you want to follow up on whatever that went down here in this city.
-[X] Contact Jackson's publisher Jonah Kensington to ask about more of Jackson's research notes. Say he is hospitalized and they might be critical in finding out what who was targeting him and why.

[X] Head back to the hospital to check on Jackson's condition. And..
-[X] Go back to the Red realm and make preparations to enter Jackson's dream. Before you leave you want to ascertain directly with him about what the crisis is.
-[X] Discuss your approach with Emily. You have a nightmare spell that you could modify to act purely as a bridge instead with dream magics. And paint your way into his dream. Using the herbs from before. Furthermore Phileas's instincts to call upon and Emily's knowledge of the dreamworld and her new magical focus. There is also the bridge to Phileas's world you could potentially use.

I'd love to travel, but I feel we should commit to a journey after finding out about what is actually going on first. And dealing with the cultists here.

Jackson's Dream
You returned to the hospital once more. Jackson was resting now, not in surgery. Surely he'd wake up tomorrow, sore but on his way to recovery. As long as he was kept safe at least. You had a plan now, but you wanted to call Emily up and check in with her about it. You used the phone at the hotel to do so. Emily listened as you explained your wish to adapt your nightmare spell to something that simply allowed you to cross into someone's dreams to communicate. She was very intrigued by this and was quick to offer to help you do so.

You worked for the next couple of days with Emily putting it together. You used paint made from plants in the Garden to paint symbols that would link your mind with Jackson's and allow you to travel into it when you slept. You stepped in and carefully painted Jackson with care before settling in to sleep beside him for the night. He was healing, and no one had attacked him during the couple days he was recovering in the hospital so far, so you had hope.

Jackson's dream was not what you had expected. You had thought he would be facing the trauma of the murderers, or perhaps the cultists. Instead you found him riding elephants as he took notes on different parts of the landscape that would root themselves up and take flight. He nodded at you with a smile and noted down your own presence.

It probably would have been better to go after the Cultists, haha. I'll try not to get carried away and factor in time with votes.

Since we are in his dream might as well take advantage of it. Ask Jackson to rennact his memories maybe? A different sort of catching up on the investigation - living it instead of reading about it.

Lets us see Jackson PoV and the highlights of his adventures.

[X] Dreaming of Egypt
-[X] Approach Jackson and ask if all this was from his travels.
-[X] Take care not to agitate him or clue him in that he was dreaming lest he wakes up. Use the magic of colours to help both of you relax, grounding yourselves more firmly to the dream.
-[X] Ask him to show you around the Street of Jackals, bringing it up as if you were there with him.

[X] Dreaming of the Yacht
-[X] Approach Jackson and ask if all this was from his travels.
-[X] Take care not to agitate him or clue him in that he was dreaming lest he wakes up. Use the magic of colours to help both of you relax, grounding yourselves more firmly to the dream.
-[X] Bring up the Yacht asking him if managed to get the photo right.

Well, at least getting the practice in means we should be faster if we want to do anything similar in the future. Like how we were able to make the eye drawings in just an hour on the train.
We should explain what we are doing to Jackson though. This isn't an interrogation, and we read him in on magic so he shouldn't panic at the first hint of it.

[X] Dreaming of an Eccentric Friend
-[X] Approach Jackson and ask if all this was from his travels. Explain that seeing him unconscious prompted you to create a way to contact him in his dreams.
-[X] Take care not to agitate him lest he wakes up. Use the magic of colours to add fluidity and lucidity to the dream so Jackson can show you what he wants.
-[X] Ask him to show you the story of what happened in his investigations so far, perhaps starting with the Street of Jackals?
