Not Necessarily a Spider (Spider-Man/Marvel)

Okay, question: What's the break point on the vote for people?

Male / female I have zero preference on.
Cat / lockbox I have zero preference on.
Dr. Strange over Hank Pym my preference.

If Dr. Parker went to cat or female, would that gain it some more voters from High School Girls than it would lose from no longer being male / lockbox?

Because I see a more or less endless tug of war going back and forth with no real dialogue from a lot of the votes.

I prefer Dr. Strange why because in Ultimate spider he was our consultant in all things mystical and help us out considerably.

Mystic Spiderman FTW

I prefer male over female, lockbox over cat, and Strange over Pym, though the last one is the smallest difference.

I went with High School girls because I like female protagonists and I prefer science over magic.

[X] Plan Dr. Parker

I would have gone with high tech briefcase, the whole science+magic=temporary weakness, eventual massively-OP-ness thing, but that's clearly not going to win here, so...

For me, it's kind of a coin flip.

Plan Dr. Parker has the potential for getting magic powers which is nice, though I think I prefer female protagonists.
Plan High School Girls Are Trouble has a female protag, but has science and tech instead of magic.
The lockbox or cat statue is kind of irrelevant to me since I don't know exactly what we'll be getting from it.

Though... actually...

[X] Plan High School Girls Are Trouble
Now that I think of it... I'd probably prefer a female protag with female friends if only to prevent us running into some kind of love triangle with our two girlfriends fighting over one guy. Even if we're stuck using tech over magic, I think having a trio of female superheroines instead of one guy with two girls would be better.

But yeah, right now it's kind of a coin toss for me. Plan High School Girls Are Trouble ekes out barely in front because I feel there is less danger of a romance subplot with our friends.

Male is my breaking point, despite preferring cat over lockbox. I prefer Strange over Pym, but that's arguable.

I would have voted for a Spider-Gwen Plan, but "Penny Parker" doesn't really appeal to me.

For me, choice goes as follows

- female / boy with no male pals
- Pym / Strange as Pym tech have huge potential very rarely used in stories/quests.
- cat / lockbox as cat is more interesting.

Most of all, I do not want to play slightly tweeked clone of Peter. Even with magic we would expect him to have personality similar to canon. Sure, he may have use magic, but it would still be same old one-liner shoting irreverent irritant. Magic will not change it.

Penny is entirely different person. Background is mostly the same... but outcome of that background may be different. Approach to situation may be different. Hell, given how genetics works, Penny does not need to look 100% similar to Peter! Nor would she behave exactly like him.

How different could she be?

Maybe she will be bit less innocent? Still cheerfull, but less bound by rules and more decisive. (click for any picture for full size)

Maybe she will be tall using Pym particles to achieve statusque psychique, and become heroic inspiration for others?

Maybe she will be armored, prefering the quiet shadow in darkness, as Batman does?

Or maybe she will be actually simillar to what we may recognize ...at least at the beginning.

Or maybe she will become armored juggernaut - as Pym particles, would allow her to carry and hide any amount of equipment in miniaturized form.

My point is, that people that judge Penny as just gender-bent clone of Peter do not appreciate a potential Penny have as character.

Also, miniaturization technology allows for freedom of design really awesome thing. Potentially?

Stark's vaunted iron armor would not compare.

And that's exactly why I'm not interested in Penny. What's even the point of making her a Parker and not just an OC if she's not going to be Spider-man (or rather, Spider-woman) anyway?

The point of quests is to do things differently from canon.

Whatever wins, a classic canon-like Peter isn't likely to happen.

[X] Plan Dr. Parker

So happy to see someone inspired by the SB quest. Loved it and was so sad for the Hiatus.

I will point out that while I may do many things differently from the comics, I do plan on keeping Peter/Penny a street level hero for the most part and I plan on keeping the quips, no matter what options are picked. To me, those two aspects just to essential to leave out, especially if we ditch the Spider-powers. While I do think part of quests and fan fiction is to try something different from the norm, change too much and you get into 'in name only, why not just make an OC' territory.

The point of quests is to do things differently from canon, but the point of using an established character is that you're using an established character. If you change literally everything about the character, you might as well go with an OC instead.

But a genderbent Peter with a different powerset would be an OC though? Because Penny isn't an established character afaik.
