A mysterious illness is spreading across the world.

The end of history is here.

This world lingering at the end of history, defined by its concrete and neon metropolises, inept bureaucrats, and frenzied cultural tension, has already signed its death certificate. Not because of decadence or apocalyptic warfare but by something rotten and horrifying. A mysterious illness is spreading across the planet, bringing about flu-like symptoms until putting the afflicted into comas. None so far have returned to consciousness and governments insist on strict isolation from society.

Most people go about their lives, working and paying bills, the disease was confirmed not to be airborne and politicians are reluctant to mandate lockdowns. A few fringe voices have been ringing the alarm on the internet, posting videos of military operations at night or ambulances retrieving the sick as disturbed onlookers receive examinations by doctors.

It's difficult for anything to break through the cacophony of mass media in the 21st Century. Few have paid attention to the increasing crime rate or swell of missing person flyers adorning street corners and billboards. In America, the underbelly of society is hidden away and people rather not upset themselves by focusing too much on homelessness or foreign conflict.

In this blighted, dystopian world edging closer to apocalypse, you were born and raised.

[ ] Pre Heroic; you're a regular everyday person who possesses some combination of aptitudes and personality traits that make you better suited to survive the apocalypse than others
[ ] Weird One; you may appear normal but you were born with higher than normal resonance with Essence and have supernatural abilities allowing you to invocate magical spells, use psionic powers, or speak with the dead

Everybody needs some kind of profession or hustle, you might live in poverty or abundance but there's some way you made your living.

[ ] Worker; if you flip burgers, drive semi-trucks, or fix machinery this is you
[ ] Academic; these people are educated professionals, scientific researchers, or professors
[ ] Celebrity; pop stars, actors, social media personalities, et cetera
[ ] Enforcers; police officers, FBI, the big stick of authority
[ ] Authority; political leaders, you can't go higher than a Mayor or Congressperson
[ ] Military; the armed forces meant to defend the country from external threats or maintain order domestically
[ ] Deep State; intelligence operatives, unelected members of government
[ ] Criminal; drug dealers, bank robbers, con artists, or homeless

Please vote by plan.

The setting is 21st Century America on the brink of apocalypse. The actual downfall of civilization will be navigated as well as the aftermath. There is quite a bit of lore because there's a considerable supernatural element to this world. Everything will be revealed in due course at the right time.

In the next update I will expand on the world, present your character statistics, and present the first scenario. Because of the nature of the setting, this quest will have permadeath enable so to speak, new characters can be generated but death is an ever present element of this world and survival won't come easy.

The core mechanic uses 2D6 plus relevant attributes or combat abilities plus or minus any situational modifiers. Attributes can range from -1 {Feeble} to +5 {Legendary}, the same goes for Combat Abilities. There are no Skills but you're profession can bestow advantages on certain rolls. Boons and Flaws are traits that provide bonuses and penalties on rolls. As the apocalypse continues your profession will undoubtedly change but you will retain the benefits of your former professions. You may end up with multiple professions over time.

Voting will only occur the day of and day after an update. I will write up the results over the course of the week. I'm thinking that updates will be posted every weekend, sometimes in less time. It all depends on my IRL situation.

Please allow me to post a character sheet as well as a couple buffer posts before you post.

[X] Plan: Heroic Authority
-[X] Pre Heroic
-[X] Military

I'm trying to go for a somewhat heroic aesthetic to see if we can instill some kind of order leading up to and after the apocalypse. After all, as civilization degrades, so too will society, and crime rates are already increasing.

Having the right personality to survive and lead seems more viable at this point, given that scared people do bad things when faced with things they can't understand. More specifically, if we do eldritch magic while the world is ending, we're probably going to get shanked by scared people if we fail badly at averting panic. Being a celebrity might alleviate that, but doesn't particularly help us survive while the world is ending and it's unlikely anybody will care when the situation gets dire.

Generally, I'd say that being part of the military has a bit of authority along with the rank among civilians during an emergency, regardless of actual rank. So, some level of implicit authority + the right traits to survive and lead in the post-apocalypse should do us some good in instilling some order and civilization after the world ends.

I like the difference of the two options so far. An eccentric celebrity who wants to hold on to fame no matter the circumstances and an army officer who truly believes in the ideals of their service.

Both are interesting challenges narratively speaking.

[x] Plan Absent-Minded Professor
- [x] Weird One; you may appear normal but you were born with higher than normal resonance with Essence and have supernatural abilities allowing you to invocate magical spells, use psionic powers, or speak with the dead

I feel myself close to a everyman or military officer but an eccentric celebrity has really cool potential.

Imagine our civilization collapsing, imagine Logan Paul reverting to survival mode. He would be the next emperor of America. Except I would play an eccentric celebrity more conflicted. Somebody with immense charisma in the old world but can that translate to the apocalypse?

Fuck Rick Grimes, I want exceptional weirdos.

It looks like voting is open based on what the thing at the bottom of the thread says? I'd want to suggest this if it wasn't already a plan.
