Nascent Goddess Quest

[w] Go investigate

That eerie glow was just too tempting to go back without investigation. Especially with the fact everyone was distracted. You've felt like something was off here this entire time anyway.

You press against the stands to hide from the audiences and hurriedly make your way over to the entrance. No one on the stage seems to see you making your way there, but...you could almost swear you saw the ringleader's eyes flick over to you for the briefest moment. But if he saw you he'd have tried to stop you.

Once inside you come across...a hall of red lights? Peeking your head down it just seems to continue down into darkness. Why is there such a long hallway here? Wait no, on the side of the hallway, doors! Five of them in fact, in a row. You peek in through the keyholes of each.

The one closest to the entrance you came through has the knife thrower and...a tiny car? Why does he have a tiny car and why is it in a room? The thrower seems to be talking to himself while throwing knife after knife at various targets, all of them hitting the bullseye, some even getting stuck in the handles of previous knives when the bullseye filled up. But with how small he is you have to wonder where all those knives are coming from. There's also the fact that he's acting like someone else is talking back to him, and he isn't talking to the car, is someone else there that you can't see from the keyhole?

Through the second door is really what seems more like a safety hazard than performers. Several men and women of various sizes and builds dance around the center of the room, all wearing masks and all swinging around flaming torches so wildly you expect the room to catch fire any second now. Some on the sides don't even hold the torches in their hands but instead twirl them around on other sticks.

But the surprising part comes when they suddenly stop dancing and all seem to take a drink from a flask at their hips, then, in perfect synchronisation they all raise their torches to their mouths and blow out a stream of fire at a single spot. People with magic can already do that, but to do it using mundane things? Impressive.

Even more impressive is that when the flames clear; a small red-hot doll it left sitting in the middle. And you know that doll wasn't there before. You also spot some spare masks and torches near the door.

Behind door number three is, well, nothing. Or at least nothing you can see. The room is pitch black with literally no light filtering in from even under the door. On the other hand you don't hear any noise from the other side at all. So the room is probably empty.

Door number four holds the four acrobats from the first act. It looks like they're arguing about something, but they're talking in a language you don't understand. When they speak you get a kind of…'off' feeling. It almost reminds you of that shimmering coat the ringleader has. Despite their language making you uncomfortable you hope their argument won't escalate.

The last door just has a group of men in fancy clothes sitting around a large tables, gambling. Wait! When you look closely you managed to notice one man's cards blurred for a little bit. And another man's did too! Are they all cheating against each other?

Outside of the gambling table the room is filled with various sticks, boxes, cupboards, saws, even some birds and rabbits in the corner. They look well looked after.

After peeking through each door it seems like the act outside is almost finished. That means someone from in here is going to go out soon. You'll be spotted, there's nowhere to hide in this corridor. Maybe one of the rooms? The hallway continues to stretch out too.

Quick! Hide! (Subvotes for what to do in the room are allowed, otherwise a default will be used) (also note that the occupants of one room will be leaving, if you choose it you'll get caught without a good subvote)
[] The first room, you should be able to knock out the thrower and hide inside without much fuss. Even if there is a second person he was talking to it shouldn't be too hard to deal with. Plus, you kinda want revenge for what you went through.
[] The second room, if you grab the masks quickly you should be able to hide in the crowd of dancers with minimal fuss. You hope you remember how to dance.
[] The third room, it's empty and dark right? No one will see you in there.
[] The fourth room, maybe if you manage to mediate and calm down the acrobats they'll keep you being there a secret.
[] The fifth room, either they'll be too distracted by gambling and cheating to see you or you can join their game for a bit. Who knows you might even win something!
[] Go down the hallway, going into one of the rooms is too dangerous when there's a chance the people inside will being going out. Besides you haven't seen a room that could be the ringleaders outside of that dark room, maybe you'll find something further down.

You are an evil man. ;)

I want to be evil too. Does this make me a bad quester? Probably.

If our Goddess can't handle juggling a couple tourches, breathing fire with no prior training, and possibly setting the traveling circus-slash-cult alight, she was not worthy of becoming an adventurer to begin with!

There is absolutely no way this will go wrong, nope.

Greatest Plan.

Dance, dance baby.

Tie-break please? If no one breaks the tie I'll flip a coin for it tomorrow.

Dancing skillz = (42) = 42
Bringing it back = (99) = 99
While they're all distracted starting at the doll you quickly open the door and sneak in, putting on a mask and grabbing a long two handed torch and flask. You then hurry into a relatively empty looking space between two of the dancers. As you do you hear a door open, you can't make out what the announcer is saying from in the room but it looks like you made a good choice.

From the general looks of it there are three rings of dancers, with the inner and outer going in one direction while the middle goes in the other, along with several even more outside doing their own thing. You're in the middle ring, it should be easy, just go opposite to the ring in front. Wait! Now you're going in the same direction as the ring in front of you, and the dancer on you left isn't swinging her torch in the same way as the one on your right anymore...wait, none of them are moving in the same way as each other entirely. You may have miscalculated here.

While their dancing seemed to be in sync from a distance, at a closer range you notice that the dancers each have their own, smaller movements. But at the same time as they each move in a unique and wild way, none of them disrupt each other. Not only that but even the greater movements they all follow seem to change at completely random times; going from hopping to the right in a circle to going left to spinning in place to throwing each other your torches (that could have lead to something bad if you'd messed it up!). And on top of all that you need to focus on twirling the flaming staff to both dance correctly and avoid seeing the place on fire. Needless to say, it's very difficult for you to get into their rhythm. There's also no music playing, just hooting and hollering from all the dancers.

More often than not you achieve something close to dancing correctly only for something to change and for you to almost hit someone. But after a few near misses the style stops changing, they're also all staring at you though. You've been going in a right circle while twirling the torch in front of you for nearly twice as long as it normally is before something changes. Trying to anticipate it this time you suddenly switch to moving left, and start twirling your torch above your head and...all the other dancers start to do the same. Were they taking turns for who was leading the dance? That...explains all the random shifts! But uh, how do you make it someone else's turn? Aaand just like that everyone's jumping on the spot while spinning their torches around their entire bodies, looks like your turn is over.

With that revelation you start to pay attention to each dancer, while they all have their own style they still follow the same general routine based on the current leader, you just have to find them.
The guy to your left in the inner circle! He's jumping very slightly before everyone else! The leader switches automatically to the person inward and to the left after about a minute! And once it's in the inner circle it goes to the outer one! This should make it way easier to follow along and not get caught!

Just as you thought, it's way easier to dance like the others when you're following the same person as them. The masks are even designed to let you look back while they keep facing forward. With renewed vigour you continue dancing. After a bit more practice you manage to get the flow of it. What looked like random movements are actually very controlled and show off a different style of the same move, it's all very carefully crafted for something the audience is likely to ignore in favour of watching fire trails.

You start to get tired near the end of the dance, but it should be almost over, they're nearing the last person. As the last person's routine finished everyone stops, you know what's about to happen. Wait for it. Wait for it. Now! You take the flask and sip some of the liquid inside, before pointing your torch at the doll in the middle of the dancers and spitting it out.

WHOOOSH

This is way more powerful than you thought. It probably won't be much worse than really uncomfortable if you tried this without the mask, but anything hit by the fire...you kinda feel sorry for it. Granted the intense heat could also be because everyone is breathing fire. As the plumes of fire fade the doll disappeared again, it didn't melt or anything, it's gone, poof.

The announcer is speaking again and everyone's heading out. You see that tiny car from the first room driving down the hallway too, that answers the question of which room got called out. What's with that car though? Regardless, if you don't break away from the dancers now you'll get dragged onto the stage.

{Eshani got 1x Fire resistant mask, 1x flaming torch, 1x flammable liquid flask (4 'sips' left)}

Woot! We got our first loot!

[X] Sneak off down the hallway into the darkness
-[X] Drop flaming torch
--[X] Hide the mask and flask

We remembered how to dance. Let's not push our luck any further.

[x] Go on stage, you got some practice in, you'll do fiiine

Can we become a star of every number? That would certainly be ambitious!

[X] Go on stage, you got some practice in, you'll do fiiine

Praise to the RNG! May they bless this foolish but entertaining endeavor.
