You made hand seals as fast as you could while Yukari finished hers. The mad woman inhaled deeply and her cheeks puffed up as she leaned forward. "Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!"

From Yukari's lips came a massive and sweeping sea of flames, threatening not only to engulf you, but a large portion of the beach itself! You sped through your hand seals as fast as possible, slamming your hands on the ground before the flames reached you, a large metal wall ramming up through the earth.

The metal wall managed to hold strong as you pressed your back onto it, creating a small safe bubble within the seemingly endless flames as it passed around the top and sides. However you felt a sharp, burning sensation on your back and after turning your head, you saw it was because Yukari's jutsu had turned your metal wall cherry red and it was starting to warp and deform from the heat.

It was only thanks to your Clarity genjutsu that you weren't overwhelmed by the suffocating heat and the pain radiating over your skin. You wanted to escape, but you were completely surrounded by the fire, you couldn't even move to the ocean! You didn't know how well this would work, but it would be better than being cooked to death!

You made hand seals and both your hands became coated with ice chakra. With your Freezing Touch jutsu, you placed both your hands on your body. The ice stung as it began to coat your entire body, a thin layer acting as a rudimentary form of heat resistance, but thankfully it did its job from making sure you didn't burn to death, the ice combating the intense heat and making sure whatever flames that touched you didn't do much.

"Grah!" Yukari shrieked as the flames started to die down, and you heard her body crashing to the ground. As soon as the flames fully vanished, you stopped coating your body with ice and knelt down, panting heavily. It was then a familiar face appeared in front of you and for the first time since this insane night started, you felt some sort of relief.

"Maya, are you alright?!" Kushina asked, kneeling down and examining you for any major injuries.

"I've been better, you got my message?" you asked.

"I did. Well actually-"

"Do not worry, Maya! Even if I am not personally attracted to you, I will still not let a woman get hurt under my watch!" A loud and hammy voice declared. Landing next to Kushina was Ignis, the odd man striking a heroic pose.

"...Thanks."

"As I was trying to say, Ignis was the one who saw your clone, and told me. I'm so sorry I wasn't there to protect you and Jiao." Kushina sincerely said. You wanted to say something, but Yukari raised herself into the air using her chakra chains, killing intent spilling like a flood from her body.

"More of you! You pieces of shit!" Yukari screamed, a bruise forming on her face. "Why are you trying to ruin my life?! I just want to live with Kotei! I want to love him as much as he loves me! Why?! WHY?!"

"Yukari! I am Ignis Ferrum, connoisseur of love and women! And let me tell you..." Ignis began in his usual style. However, his face went dour and his voice, still loud, was coated in disgust. "What you and Kotei have isn't love."

"SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" Yukari roared, rocketing toward Ignis, whipping her chains at him!

"Woah!" Ignis yelped, jumping backwards. He quickly slipped on a pair of metal gauntlets and began smacking away Yukari's chains.

"Maya, do you know where Jiao is?" Kushina asked quickly.

"She should be inside the house!" you answered. "Kotei said she's injured, but-"

"You get Jiao and go to the hospital, Ignis and I will take care of Yukari! Go!" Kushina exclaimed, cutting you off. Before you could answer, Kushina jumped away, starting to engage Yukari in combat!

"I can sense Jiao inside the house, and her chakra seems stable now that I can focus on it. Was Kotei lying about injuring her? If so, then she's probably safe, Yukari wouldn't destroy her own house..." you thought, glancing at the battle raging on near you. Visions of Makima standing her ground against Kotei flashed in your mind.

Could you really leave Kushina and Ignis to fight Yukari? What if they got hurt or worse, because you left them behind? But then there's Jiao, your friend. Even if she seems stable, she's still in danger!

What will you do?

As much as you wanted to help Kushina and Ignis, you had been pushing yourself hard and your chakra levels were rather low because of it. Besides, you needed to help Jiao as soon as possible! Trying to push the sounds of the nearby battle out of your mind, you ran into the house. To your surprise, it was rather neat and tidy, at least from the living room you've walked into. From how Yukari was dressed, you expected a filthy hovel.

It didn't take long for you to find Jiao. You swung open a door to a closet, where you saw her tied up and unconscious. You easily cut through the bindings and looked her over. While you were no medic, it seemed like she was more than likely drugged as you couldn't see any external injuries. As quickly and gently as you could, you scooped up Jiao into your arms and ran out of the house. You could hear Yukari roaring behind you, but you refused to look back, knowing if you did you'd try to help your allies.

"I just gotta get through the woods and then the Whirlpool Village is in sight. I don't know where the hospital is, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. This will be all over soon. Just got to go as fast as I can!" you thought, panting heavily. You entered the woods, the trees becoming blurs in your vision as you rushed past.

"Compression."

Kotei's Theme

Before you could react, you were slammed into the ground, right on top of Jiao. Your head bounced off against the hard dirt, causing your vision to double and stars to form. Your entire body felt extremely heavy and you couldn't even move! From what you could see of Jiao, she was pinned under you, and her breaths were pained and short, no doubt from your body crushing hers!

"Gotta be careful around these parts, those roots will trip you up."

You could barely shift your head upwards, but you saw Kotei standing over you, smiling pleasantly. You noticed that he was holding Makima's club, slung over his shoulders. Your heart dropped and could only hope she was okay.

"L-Let us go!" you wheezed, the crushing weight making it hard to speak.

"Are you really in any position to make demands?" Kotei asked. He sat down in front of you, sitting cross legged and resting his head on his fist.

"Someone...help!" you tried to scream, but all you could muster was a choked gasp.

"Nobody is gonna help. By the way, how's the girl under you? She doesn't seem alright." Kotei asked. "If only she didn't sleep with her window open, maybe that could have avoided all this mess."

"Y-You said she was...t-tresspassing! I knew you lied!" you groaned, trying to shift your body in a way to remove some pressure of Jiao.

"No shit, you think that prissy bitch would be skulking the town at night? Though she's pretty weak to drugs, just a small dose and she was out like a light." Kotei casually confirmed. "But we're not talking about her. Now that I have your attention, I want you to calmly and honestly answer my questions."

"No!"

Kotei reached forward, grabbing a handful of your hair and roughly raising you head upwards, even through the heavy weight of his jutsu. His orange eyes peered into yours. "You don't have much choice, unless you don't care about your friend down there. I give her a few more minutes until all the air in her lungs is squeezed out."

"Gah...!" you gasped, once again trying to move off of Jiao, but Kotei shook his head and the weight pressing down on you slightly got heavier.

"I could just crush you two into bloody smears if you really want, but I don't want to kill you two girls. Just satisfy my curiosity and I'll let you two go. I'll go get Yukari and we'll leave you alone for the rest of your stay." Kotei said, but his easygoing demeanor made it impossible for you to tell if he was lying or not, but you were leaning to him lying, going by past experience.

"W-What could you want to know...so badly...about me?!" you hissed.

"Why did Nijuichi want to meet with you? You're just some 'random' refugee, yet you managed to get that guy's attention. I've been around that nerd, he wouldn't take time out his busy day just to meet some random lady. I doubt it's for any tryst, that dude couldn't pull any women with his face half eroded like that." Kotei explained. "Plus, I know you're hiding something."

"How am I hiding...anything?!" you shouted, hoping your weakening voice would reach somebody.

"Oh I can tell. You're putting on a façade. You act carefree and goofy, while sliding up right to important people like Kushina. It's obvious that you're a shinobi, and hell even I fell for your act at first. But when I starting keeping tabs on you, it was pretty easy to see the cracks forming." Kotei said, his voice going low. "You let the mask slip a few too many times, unconsciously or not."

"I don't know what...you're talking about. I-" you began, but Kotei let go of your hair, letting your face crash into the ground. Kotei then picked your head up again, staring at you. "How...would you know...if I was hiding anything?!"

Kotei laughed, his face stretched into a wide smile. But then faster than you could blink, Kotei's face turned stony and waxen, completely void of any emotion or feelings. His bright orange eyes were now dull and unmoving, not simply staring into you, but through you. Your heart began beating faster and faster in fear as you looked into his eyes. You've seen them before.

They were the eyes of a corpse.

"Because I've been hiding myself far longer than you have." Kotei said, cold and monotone. Only his mouth moved as he spoke, creating an inhuman sight, almost like a puppet speaking instead of a living, breathing human being. Suddenly the light returned to his eyes and he smiled gently. "So please, just tell me what you told Nijuichi. Every last detail. If you agree, I'll even let you get off of that woman so she can breathe. What do you say, Maya?"

Well, what will you do?

Triple genjutsu of brightness in his eyes? And then get out of there with the Second Gate?

[]Triple layered brightness genjutsu, that gives the target the impression of seeing something brighter than the eyes could see and the corresponding pain. Then activate the second gate and get out of there. Retreat back towards Kushina and Ignis.

I wonder if there's a genjutsu or something similar on Yukari.

I appreciate the plan, but Maya isn't at the level where she can use genjutsu without hand seals. Yet. Her arms are pinned under Jiao's body, plus the increased gravity. She also doesn't have a flashbang genjutsu, but that stuff would probably be super easy to learn so I can let that slide.

The only other thing for a write in option that I can think of would be a gender switch to better resist the increased gravitym but that isn't all that useful.
It could catch Kotei offguard and give an opening.
I'll wait what others come up with.

"I'll tell...you everything! Please...just..." you choked out. Kotei sighed and let go of your head again, but this time you were able to keep it from slamming against the ground. The gravity pressing on you lessened, letting you be able to hold yourself up so you weren't crushing Jiao anymore.

"Alright, speak." Kotei said.

"O-Okay. I'm a Mist spy, but I hold no loyalty to the Empire, I'm just trying to survive. They sent me here to gather information as an off the record spy so no blame could be laid at their feet, and during that time I came in contact with Kushina." You wheezed, attempting to speak as fast as possible while being clear and concise. "She found out I was a spy, but was conflicted because I have no true connection to the Mist! So she called Nijuichi and that's when he interrogated me! I pleaded my case and he found me trustworthy to stay!"

"...Hm. Really?" Kotei asked, looking suspiciously at you.

"It's the truth...I can't lie here. Not when Jiao is..." you panted.

"You talk about that dragon a lot, but honestly it seems like you don't care for her that much." Kotei said.

"W-What?!" you weakly exclaimed.

Kotei sighed and shook his head before coldly saying, "you lied to me. That wasn't everything."

"But it was! You can ask Kushina or even Jiao if she was awake!" you said.

"Sure, some things are true, but that doesn't explain why Nijuichi was so interested in you. That bastard personally escorted you, with this bum leg and all." Kotei sneered. You didn't even realize Nijuichi had a bad leg, you were too busy in your thoughts while he led you to his office. "We get spies all the time in this shithole island, why would he care about you? There had to be something so unique and special about you that even Nijuichi was interested."

"I...don't know what more to say. I told you every-"

Kotei swiftly cut you off by kicking you right across the face. Everything went dark and your ears started ringing, and when you regained your senses, you were now a few feet away from Jiao. The gravity was still pressing down on you, preventing you from moving, but now Kotei had placed his foot onto the back of Jiao's head, digging her face into the dirt. He casually wielded his sister's club with one hand, making the top of it hover over Jiao's hand.

"D-Don't...!"

"I'm getting really bored of this game. It was fun for a bit, but you really won't give me what I want. So, I'm gonna start being a bit forceful." Kotei muttered. "I'm going to ask you again, why is Nijuichi so damn interested in you? If your answer doesn't satisfy me, then I'll use this club to smash up this dragon's body."

"You monster!"

"It's your fault, if you just played by the rules of my game, then nobody would have been hurt, I would have gotten what I would have wanted, and you could be on your merry way." Kotei said. "Now so many people got involved, its a been a real big pain in the ass. Anyway, tell me what I want to hear."

"This isn't a game! You-"

Kotei suddenly slammed the club downward, directly onto Jiao's hand. Jiao shook violently, being snapped out of her stupor and screaming loudly in agony although it was muffled due to being facedown in the ground. Kotei raised the club, revealing the back of Jiao's hand to be broken, rapidly bruising and bleeding.

"JIAO!"

"Like I said, I'm bored now. So I'm gonna speed it up. From now on, I'll be counting down in ten second intervals. If you don't tell me the truth, I break another bone. She's already exhausted, not to mention how frail she is. I wonder how long it would take for her to die of shock. I'm guessing after I shatter her entire arm, piece by piece."

There was absolutely no remorse or guilt in Kotei's face. To him, this was just a simple solution to his problem. The fact that he was torturing another person didn't even seem to register to him! You tried to get to your feet, but the gravity suddenly got heavier, pinning you to the ground.

"Oh yeah, new rule. If you move again, that counts as you speaking nonsense. I'll give you a freebie this time, because I'm a pretty generous guy." Kotei pleasantly said, with a smile that would look genuinely charming if you didn't know his true nature. "Alright, starting the countdown. Ten, nine, eight..."

"No! This bastard! What should I do? What should I...no. Don't panic. Calm down. He said that I just need to tell him what he wants to hear. He just wants a reason as to why Nijuichi would see me, beyond being a spy, which he clearly doesn't think is a good enough reason. I don't need to tell him I have the Rinnegan, just something that would make sense to him." you thought.

But there was a flaw with that line of thinking. If whatever you could come up with wasn't enough, then Jiao would pay the price. Would it be better to just reveal the Rinnegan then? It would no doubt save Jiao, but the consequences of Kotei knowing could be disastrous.

Can we do this and like...not lie? Saying we have a rare Kekkei Genkai and showing these two is technically the truth, just part off a greater truth.

Yeah, this isn't making up a reason, it's just obscuring the whole truth. If he somehow knows about the Rinnegan, then we can play dumb like we don't know we have it. If he's still needy after this, there's no satisfying the man and we should probably stop playing his game.
