The Joric have lived in their mountains for thousands of years, since before the Ascension of the Young Gods and toppling of the Elder Gods. They carve out the mountain stone to make their homes and live in self-sufficient holds since the Elder Gods themselves ascended to divinity. A hold cares for its people and the people care for their hold. The Joric worship the Winter Gods and the Winter Gods answer the prays of the Joric.

That has been their way of life for all of their existence and despite many hardships over the millennia with the most recent being the Dark War when the vampires tried to claim the world with their armies of the undead. The Joric have always endured even if they have not always thrived and even as entire kingdoms feel to the undead empire of the vampires, Jorgard survived undaunted.

Now a new hold is to be founded and you are to be its Thane as per the orders of Queen Alatha Pillarfortress of Jorgard. Some maps, Jormans and Varcs numbering about a hundred and enough supplies to last the journey from Iron Hall and next two years. With these settlers and supplies, you shall create a new hold worthy of Jorgard, the Winter Gods and all of the Joric ancestors.

Starspire is at the southern end of the Passage, the massive river that runs down middle of the Jord Mountains. The river mouth lies mostly abandoned for now, but as the world recovers from Sarmirus and his Dark War, the great powers of the world will be asserting their stake over this major trading point.

There are many questions to be answered, but right now, the one that matters most is just what sort of person Thane Dawnblade of Starspire.

***

Since I've got a bit more free time right now and my NaNoWriMo plans fell through, I have decided to recycle the setting in to a CK2 quest since I felt I had come up with a good setting for one. This setting is inspired by various things, but one of the main influences is Dwarf Fortress. As part of the CK2 quest, you will play as the leader of a new hold near land that is recently unclaimed following the latest would be apocalypse and now that things are settling down again, the big players will be rushing to claim it for themselves. You will be the representative of your people and you will have to deal with the locals and the other countries coming into the claim their own piece of the pie.

Your character is going to be a rising star, a talented individual who is in a position of power in an important location that is going to major events taking place. Be warned that what options you pick for the stats will shape the personality of the PC and will influence things beyond just stats. You will see things from the perspective of the PC and for example, a martially-inclined character will look at things differently to one that is diplomatically or religiously inclined.

While I hope it should be obvious, please use plan voting. I reserve the veto anything I don't feel like writing or I feel doesn't fit the setting. You may suggest write-ins.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.

Can you give us a quick rundown on what a 'Joric' is? What it looks like, it's basic temperament and maybe even the lightest touches of culture?

Can you give us a quick rundown on what a 'Joric' is? What it looks like, it's basic temperament and maybe even the lightest touches of culture?

I haven't got my notes on my right now so this is all from memory. I'll make a more detailed reply later.

Based off of RL!Norse/Fantasy!Dwarfs, but I feel they are unique enough. Joric are also known as Jormans. They generally look like hardy humans with blonde, brown and red hair with blue and green eyes. They live in the Jord Mountains for over thousands of years and whilst they have had their low and high points, they have always endured. Jorgard is the oldest continuous civilisation in the world and predates the current generation of gods (I'll go into more on them when I've got my notes).

In general, the Jorgard focus on being tough and hard to defeat. Their warriors are not the most skilled or powerful, but they are the hardest to defeat and kill. Their magic lacks the diversity of their neighbours, but does the job that Joric need for it incredibly well. They also universally live underground in self-sustaining settlements where they stockpile for decades worth of supplies and a fully developed hold could survive indefinitely even if the rest of the world was gone.

Socially, the Jorgard are very communal. Everyone works towards the betterment of the hold and the hold provides everything for its people. Bedrooms, furniture, food, drink and clothing are all provided for the Joric by their hold and they consider money to be a weird barbarian thing that civilised people don't do. Whilst their stockpiling means that it is a very rare occasion for a hold's supplies to run low, when they do, the hold rations until they can acquire more. Military-wise, the Joric are defensive by nature and use a militia system where some of their populations (sometimes all of it) train to be warriors as part of their work schedule.

You have multiple types of humans/men (Larmans, Marmans, Kirmans, Jormans), greyskins/arcs (Karcs, Varcs, Garcs, last one I don't member right now) and elves/alire (Mari, Cari, Lari and Nari). The Alire are more magically oriented while the Arcs are more phyiscally oriented with humans being in the middle. Each has their own set of racial traits that gives them some slight advantages.

This is all I've got for now. More when I get back to my notes.

Vote is still open.

Not exactly all I could wish it to be, but I still like it better than the other plan.

Can you give us a quick rundown on what a 'Joric' is? What it looks like, it's basic temperament and maybe even the lightest touches of culture?

Okay, the Joric are the oldest cultural groups, made up of Jormans (humans) and Varcs (orcs). Both Jormans and Varcs have innate boosts to strength, toughness and stamina alongside increased recovery rate and resilient to the cold. While Varcs have a natural talent for healing magic whilst Jormans are naturally good at enchanting.

As a mentioned above, Jorgard consists of self-reliant settlements called Holds. Each properly developed hold is fully self-sufficient and is basically an independent city-state. Jorgard is effectively a league of allied city-states that are united by shared cultural and religious beliefs.

There has been four generations of deities. The oldest is the All-Maker, the Knights and the Invaders. The All-Maker religion endures as a handful of holdouts that seem impossible to stamp out despite the strong evidence that the deity doesn't actually exist whilst almost all of the Knights died fighting the Invaders. This is known as the Pre-Ascension Era and ended about eighteen thousand years ago.

The only surviving Knight went onto become part of the second generation of deities, the Ancient Gods. The Ancient Gods were the only deities of the second generation and their era is known as the 1st Era. The Last Knight led his fellow Ancient Gods in fighting the Invaders and ultimately expelled from from the world. The only survivor was the Last Knight as all of the other Ancient Gods were gone from the world one way or another. This is known as the 1st Era and ended about twelve thousand years ago.

The next era consists of the Last Knight fixing the world. During this, he created magic, souls and Heaven itself. This is the 2nd Era and it ended about six thousand years ago. It was during this era that the Jorgard came into existence.

The 2nd Era came to an end when the Invaders returned to the world once more, but the Last Knight was prepared for the Invaders this time and with the help of mortal allies, he expelled them from the world once again. However his mortal allies turned upon him and Ascended to become the Antera, more commonly known as the Elder Gods. The Elder Gods forcibly exiled the Last Knight to Heaven and attempted to take over the world, but fell into infighting before they could be fully successful. There were many rebellion attempts and one was ultimately successful after the Last Knight, now known solely as the Hero due to the legends spread about him, returned and basically murdered the crap out of the majority of the Elder Gods and imprisoned the rest. This is known as the 3rd Era.

The 4th Era is the current era and has been ongoing for about four thousand years. It is marked by the downfall of the Elder Gods and the ascension of the Moridea, commonly known as the Young Gods, and the Winter Gods. While all were prominent members of the rebellion, the Moridea are a loosely aligned pantheon of deities while the Winter Gods are a closely knit trio of ascended Jorman siblings.

The Winter Gods consist of Mithias Tris the Light Warrior and Sun God, Mirra Tris the Lighting Soldier and Storm Goddess and Dorra Tris the Frost Hunter and Ocean Goddess. Their worship is complicated as whilst they have non-Joric worshippers, they are effectively the state religion of Jorgard and the Joric people. With the Joric, the Winter Gods have an odd relation as their organised religion has no formal strictures that aren't incorporated into Jorgard law and their relationship with their priest and priestesses is a personal one. The Joric priesthood of the Winter Gods acts as middlemen between the Winter Gods and the common Joric people, providing the latter with both the guidance and protection of the former.
