Modern Earth vs D&D 2nd

Modern Earth vs D&D 2nd .

What is the most powerful thing they can defeat ?
How could they form defenses against or at least stop certain threats such as teleportation , what are the limitations of teleportation and scrying ?

The argument will be restricted to the Material plane .

Also if a creature can only be harmed by magic please explain why .
How would it go by
(A) Fluff
(B) RAW

scenario (2) Earth is a magically dead plane
(they have a lot of spell like abilities that let them cheese their way around this but how far do they go )
Lets assume a portal opens in Australia just to be safe .

Magic creature that are (phase through thing) corpereal that is the word most physical attack (which is modern earth) cant do again which is no.
I've heard that creatures of this type can be harmed by things like sunlight , holy water , and fire at low levels .
How would they interact with lasers and nukes , or a holy squirt guns ?

Also are they still capable of affecting physical objects while inside a physically occupied space . If so they could trivially phase into the ground to dodge most attacks and cripple people with hit and run tactics . What are the limitations of intangibility ?

What setting? I'm not an expert on 2e, but some of them are much higher-powered than others.
