Mobile Suit Gundam: Colliding Stars

I figured why not have a Gundam Role play for this site, so here it is XD. This Role play will be a set in an AU of the Universal Century in Gundam. Heres the IC link

Story:
Set in the Universal Century of 0105, just nine years after the events of Gundam Unicorn (UC 0096), the Republic of Zeon has since given up its autonomy and has merged back into the Earth Federation. Since the collapse of Zeon at the end of the third Neo Zeon war their has been almost a decade of peace, and the Earth Federation was given free range to reach out and begin to slowly reunify the remaining space colonies back under their authority. Some spacenoids have welcomed the return of some stability to their lives, but many fear the new restricting laws and mandates for the colonies coming with this new era of "peace". In attempt to prevent further conflicts the Earth Federation compromised with the colonies and slightly reduced their military as a sign of good faith. On the eve of the 9th anniversary of the surrender and collapse of Zeon, a terrorist attack was launched on earth by a small military organization calling themselves the "Sons of Zeon" claiming to be the remaining remnants of the Republic of Zeon refusing to bow down to the Earth Federation. During the attack they were successful in stealing an advanced Earth Federation command ship and several mobile suits. Now with these weapons added to their small but very deadly fleet of ships and mobile suits, the group disappears back into the colonies resurfacing for quick guerrilla attacks. Now in what many are calling "the fourth Neo Zeon war", these two powerful organizations clash with each other in a conflict that threatens to once again undo all past strides toward peace.

Combat System:
So after reviewing a LOT of other RP's this is going to be the combat system this is still a work in progress but here it is:
At the start of every combat engagement you will roll a dice one for attack, one for defense, and one for special action (funnels, EWAC, dodging, etc.)

Attack/Defense:
It will be 1D8 x10 if the attacking number is higher than the defense number the attack hits, and vice versa for Defense (miss/block). The difference in the number will be the amount of damage taken to your health which is 300.
Also of course when directly attacking another player the one being attacked must wait for the attackers roll, so they can create a post and edit accordingly (unfortunately dice roll only done after a post is made so unless I can think of a better system this will require using EDIT a lot).

Action Point: The ability dice will be 1D20 x5 for action points. Each action like dodging, or using a special ability will cost 10 points. These will be stored in a bank every combat engagement with a single opponent. Each new opponent will warrant a new roll, and at half health dodging will become more difficult and the dice is lowered to a 1d10 x4 as damage will be done to the mobile suit making movement naturally harder, and systems using abilities more damaged.
You only need to spend the ability points once to activate the equipment (heavy weapon, funnels, heavy rifles) then it becomes part of the next attack roll. However if say some of your etc get destroyed you must spend another 10 points to get them back partially. Using a ability like EWAC (hacking a mobile suit) will require more 10 points (5 if you rolled extremely low) each use.

When a weapon is activated for the first time it added a bonus of your ability point score to your attack (example: You roll attack of 50 and get 50 ability roll you have an attack of 100 that turn). Abilities can add buffs to your stats for the same amount.

Name: Gene Rikaru
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Appearance:
Race: Newtype
Weapons: Side arm pistol
Mobile Suit First Half:
Mobile Suits Armaments: Two shoulder mounted missile pods, hand mounted missile launcher, hand mounted vulcan gun, beam rifle, heat hawk, and beam halberd.
Replacement Mobile Suit:
Mobile Suit's armament: Beam rifle, twin beam sabers, beam cannon, shield, and Beam Magnum
Affiliation: Zeon
Personality: Sarcastic, loyal, and intelligent.
Backstory: His family had fled to the astroid colony of Axis after Zeon's defeat during the one year war, with many of his extended family either perishing or being held prisoner in its after math. Gene was born a spacenoid on Axis two years before the AEUG's conflict with a Titans dominated Earth Federation on UC 0088. Like the rest of Axis still bitter from with how the far ended and the great anti-spacenoid attitude towards all spacenoids, Gene's childhood was filled with propaganda and patriotism speeches instilling a great pride to be born Zeon in the small boy. His parents shielded their children from "too much" of the patriotism they wanted them to be proud to be Zeon, but not so much that they'd fall in line blindly without question. A task that proved very difficult since Gene's father worked as part of the Axis defense mobile suit force.

Gene's father was proud and loyal soldier of Zeon, but he didn't want his kids to follow in his footsteps. He thought if he took all the danger on his shoulders they could be free to live their own lives, and not have to suffer another war torn life. That was his belief even up to his death during Char Aznable's counter attack on earth in UC 0093. His death sparked a flame inside of Gene's mind and caused him to begin awakening as a newtype. It also inspired his eldest son to join Full Frontal's renewed Neo Zeon movement. Much like his father he wanted to create a better homeland for his family to live in. And just like their father it ended in tragedy, when he was shot down in a conflict with the Unicorn Gundam.

Their fathers death sparked the flame, but his brothers death lit a blazing inferno of emotional pain which fully unlocked Gene's newtype abilities. Mentally connecting with his brother seconds before his death...even partially feeling his death. After this Gene's mother moved them as far away from earth and former Zeon colonies as possible wanting nothing to do with either of them ever again especially for her family.

Gene did not adjust well with his growing newtype abilities they made his emotions unstable, and only amplified his anger at the Earth Federation for breaking his family apart. He tried to find a balance in his life, something to hold onto. School, friends, family, anything the more time passed the more part of him felt empty. As eight years passed he found things to bring him peace taking care of his sisters, learning about engineering , and piloting. Mobile suits were a passion of his, they had been ever since his father took him into the cockpit of his old Zaku-II, whenever he got a chance to he practiced piloting them in simulations. Eventually even was able to get a handle over most of his newtype abilities, and just as he became adjusted to his new life destiny came knocking.

A friend of his brothers representing some kind of military group visited Gene, he wanted him to join their organization. At first Gene thought he was joking, but he quickly realized he wasn't and...he started to think. He wasn't political he never had been, but he was proud of who he was as a Zeon and spacenoid, and so were his father and brother. He thought about how they fought to make a better world for the people they cared about, and for the first time he felt like he could finally understand them. After taking a few months to decide and think, Gene joined the Sons of Zeon as a pilot. A month before the attack on earth he after proving his skill with a Zaku-III, was gifted with a mobile suit by the leader of the sons of zeon. It was a Custom built Zaku-II with an arsenal equipped to it. While bulky and slow with a normal pilot Gene with his newtype abilities is able to bring out its full power and regain that speed.

Aw man, I want to do this....MUST MAKE ROOM IN SCHEDULE!!!

So, are we all in gundams or can we choose reagular MS's? Where is our choice of mobile suit restricted, I.e, my NZ-666 Kshatriya model is looking at me from my shelf right now, but so is my AMS-129 Geara Zulu if Kshatriya is too powerful/too main-character-y. I'm guessing we're keeping in the UC timeline.

We don't all have to use Gundams (they are supposed to be rare). All mobile suits have to be ones that appear in the universal century the cut off point is Gundam Unicorn. So ANY mobile suit thats been around up to or before Unicorn can be used, provided it makes sense why its here (you can't use the original gundam due to being destroyed, and if your using a REALLY old mobile suit its going to be modernized like a lot of older suits were in Unicorn).

And sure the Kshatriya can be used but only under these conditions either its still the only model of that suit, or its a slightly toned down mass production model of the suit. This will be the case for a lot of the "special" mobile suits

Thats what I did with the my suit the Gundam Mk-III in the canon only three were ever made in side stories. An AEUG version, earth federation version, and a Titans version. (Funny thing to I picked this one, because like you it was calling to me I just bought the 1/100 for it)

Gray watched as his friends fathers and brothers went to serve Zeon in the one year war, and yet his father stayed at home. A young teenager at the time, Gray would not let his father live this down, and berated him about it any chance he had. Eventually, as the war turned against Zeon his father was forced to leave, and Gray watched his father leave with pride.
That pride vanished when he received word that his father had died in battle against the federations experimental "gundam". Gray still outwardly denies any fault on his own part that his father died, but the fact still haunts him.

Gray joined the sleeves as soon as he could, and found he had a knack for piloting the Geara Zulu. After flying in several guerrilla attacks, Gray distinguished himself as a tough fighter, pushing his machine to the limits to get in close to his enemies and tear them apart. Eventually his renown grew to the point where his commander allowed him to order customizations for his MS, increasing power output and durability.

@Ninjamaster227 could the Nightingale be picked. reason I am asking is because I like the suit and I have it as a Gunpla.

That one I have to say no to because logically it couldn't work, the nightingale was piloted by char in the manga version of Char Counter attack. Just like the canon Zarabi suit it was destroyed by the Nu Gundam before Armuro and Char "vanished" (Pretty obvious they died in re-entry when they pushed Axis back into space, but series never out right said they did) it can be almost any mobile suit but like i said it has to logically fit.

This would really be the one scenario i'd allow this its a secret weapon built by Son's of Zeon sympathizers made by combining specs from the Sazabi and the Sinanju. This could logically fit in universe, and if you do go this route just know I'm leaving the Hi-ν Gundam open to any one who wants to play earth federation (I'll think of a way it can fit logically to) to balance things out.

In the middle of the night the rival gangs attack the house. During the fighting the parents perished taking the gangs and protecting their son,
A friend of the mother saw the turmoil going and got there as fast as he could. All he could do was rescue John.
A few years later John joined up with the Son's of Zeon and rose through the ranks. During his 6 years as a soldier, John awakened as a newtype. When his abilities was discovered he was then relocated to a special division. Here he was testing various mobile suits. As the testing went on R&D decided to have try out the new suit they built using the data of Shinju and the Sazbi.
John loved the suit ever since. After looking through all the data he could find on Char. He decide that he wants to wear a mask just like Him. So he got the R&D to commission him a mask. It was worth. As a bonus john got a date as well.

Question: I understand that we can only use Universal Century suits, but is it possible to have an original modified version of a UC suit? I want to make a character that specializes in electronic warfare and uses a modified mass-production Earth Federation mobile suit (I'm thinking Guncannon, but that's pretty much because I don't know many other standard mobile suits without looking at the wiki. Other candidates include the MSA-007 Nero, the Jegan D type, and the ReZEL). The modifications would be stronger communication equipment which would enable this character to send viruses, RATs, worms, etc to enemy mobile suits/mobile armors. Once he gains access, he's able to remotely shut it down, hijack the controls, or blind the enemy by turning off the suit's sensors. Furthermore, he would be capable of releasing a electromagnetic pulse in specialized grenades he throws at enemies (or maybe proximity mines).

I'm thinking he's a freelancer, using a junker of an MS. If he gets the ReZel, that mech might have been absurdly powerful nine years ago, but it's certainly going to get outmoded as time goes on. The parts will wear out, and it won't be as effective as it once was. He can maintain it, but there's only so much he can do. He'll begin taking up work for the Earth Federation once the RP starts, so he'll probably use the pay to repair his mech, or even transfer the modifications to another brand-new mech provided he gets enough cash. What do you think of this? Could it work?

Yes that could work but we "might" need to tweak that EMP grenade you mentioned at some point we'll figure all that out once I find the right combat system for this RP.

@Ninjamaster227

I'm wondering if I can get away with making my character a Newtype who doesn't know about his powers yet. Is that alright?

While were still waiting for some Earth Federation players I thought it'd be nice to show part of the story this the ship the Sons of Zeon stole during the attack and renamed the "Rising Axis". An advanced Pegasus-class command ship built in celebration of almost a decade of peace, and the 26th anniversary of the one year war. After being captured the white parts were painted zeon red, and the old red parts painted yellow. Went with a VERY old class ship, because it was the same class as the white base which is next to the argama the most famous ship in the federations history. It was in story supposed to be a symbol of a new era of peace, but it was taken and now is the polar opposite of it, a little twisted irony.

  • Waverider transformation
  • ReZEL's beam rifle
  • Shield
  • Second beam gun
Affiliation (Federation, Zeon, Freelancer): Currently Federation, formerly Freelancer
Personality: John is a veteran soldier whose goal is to protect those who can't protect themselves. His goal in fighting for the Earth Federation isn't simply to bring down Zeon: it's to attempt to preserve the peace that blessed both Earth and her colonies for years after the last war. Despite his lofty notions, he is not naive and is a very strong and experienced combatant. He thinks pragmatically, but aims to win battles with the least amount of casualties on either side. The malware he infects other MUs with is often used to artificially force a retreat by making each infected mech flee the battlefield against its pilot's will, both sparing the soldier and knocking them out of the battle. However merciful he may be, even he has a sadistic side, exclusively against truly evil individuals. For example, if a Sons of Zeon commander sends his troops to kill civilians in cold blood or destroy entire colonies, he will not hesitate to kill them, often in the most brutal method possible (e.g. shutting down their life support and locking down their thrusters, leaving them to slowly suffocate in the cold reaches of space, or if he's feeling even more vindictive, sending their mech on a collision course with a nearby star at full tilt). John is a dedicated family man, using his security and escort pay to support his wife and son on the Alpha Seven (also spelled A7) colony. He viciously despises those who start wars or engage in cruel acts unprovoked, and generally views war as an incredible waste of lives and resources that only persists because of humanity's own selfishness. He also despises those who harm innocents, exploit Newtypes, and engage in bigotry. In his spare time, he often can be found watching a movie or playing video games like anyone else. Try to beat him in Alley Brawler 6 and your avatar will be brutalized without mercy.

Backstory:
John was born and raised on the Alpha Seven (A7) space colony, within Lagrange Point L5. Alpha Seven was always a pro-Federation colony, seeing Zeon as aggressors who threatened to overturn years of peace with every successive war. As each successive war tore apart interstellar society, A7 gradually shifted from a pro-Earth colony to a neutral colony, as its war-weary leaders didn't want to send their young men and women to die in battle anymore. John, however, had already been drafted into the Third Neo Zeon War on the Earth Federation side before the colony had shifted its stance. Fighting through the events of Gundam Unicorn, he racked up a high kill count in his ReZEL. He wasn't an especially good pilot, but he had an enormous gift for spacial calculations, which allowed him to pull off advanced maneuvers despite his inexperience. Beam rifle shots always seemed to hit their mark, and he could always find a weakness in an opponent's beam saber style. Little did he know that he was a Newtype, and his gift had been secretly helping him along his career this whole time. As a reward for his kill count, he was given access to a newly-released limited-production ReZEL variant, the ReZEL Hacker-D. As the name implied, its purpose was to hack enemy units to sow chaos within the enemy ranks. It was also outfitted with EMP grenades for its grenade launcher to disable enemy units and even capital ships. After the war ended, he was sent back home to his colony, and found that he could use his ability to kill to help others and his family. Taking up freelance security work, he mostly made a living fending off pirates who attacked civilian merchant ships over the nine years of peace, sending his pay home to his wife and son back on Alpha Seven.

All was well, for a time. However, when he came home one day after an assignment, he found his colony under attack by Sons of Zeon members. It turned out that a radical cell of the SoZ wanted to "make an example" of the technically-neutral-but-still-sympathetic-to-Earth Alpha Seven, to show what would happen to "traitor colonies." When he arrived in his personal transport ship, the ReZEL Hacker-D onboard, he was aghast to see his colony in ruins. Homes were destroyed, crop fields were incinerated, and entire cities were reduced to rubble. Getting inside his ReZEL, he soon came across the perpetrators: a squad of Sons of Zeon mobile suits, holding the capital city hostage unless its leaders agreed to surrender or shift their allegiance to Zeon.

The Zeon terrorists hoplessly outnumbered John, and with the ReZEL Hacker-D having seen better days, his death was all but certain. But it seemed they didn't realize what the Hacker-D could do. All John needed to do to win was to delay them long enough to gain access to their systems using a Remote Access Trojan. He forced the squad to kneel before him, explaining that he was going to trigger their Auto-Retreat function and spare their lives. True to his words, the subordinate mechs fled automatically. But the commander's mech stayed. John then explained to the terrified Zeon commander that he was going to perform a hard shutdown of his MS, locking him inside with the life support off. He would have about two hours of air in the cockpit, and it would be up to the people of the colony he just attacked to free him from his metal prison or let him die for his actions against their people. Of course, he also explained how to open up the mech from the outside. After about an hour and a half of deliberation, it was decided that the poor man would be freed and given to the Earth Federation to as a prisoner of war.

Naturally, Alpha Seven then became a staunch Earth Federation ally, seeing as they were now targeted by pro-Zeon forces and the Earth Federation was their best chance of protection. After learning that his wife and son had been killed as part of the Zeon squad's rampage, John rejoined the Earth Federation army as a private contractor, eager to see the war over and having very few skills other than combat.

Doesn't Zeon have a MS designed specifically for electronic warfare? I seem to remember one from Unicorn that looked like a Zaku, but its head was all elongated to look like an AWAC's radar...

Thing is, I don't actually watch Gundam so...
Well you should. At least watch unicorn, its pretty short and really good. If you get past that and still like it, watch a few of the other new ones (00 is good and Iron blooded orphans is turning out well) then if you really like gundam, watch the original. Its old enough that its a tough watch but its worth it.
