Older article on the return of MicroProse to the video game development world.
excerpt from article said:
Older readers will surely remember the American company MicroProse, which at the turn of the 1980s created some of the most popular simulators and strategy games in the world. We're talking about titles like Sid Meier's Civilization, Sid Meier's Pirates! or Railroad Tycoon. We have good news for the fans of these games, because it seems that MicroProse has been revived and is brewing something interesting.

Earlier this year, rights to the MicroProse name were purchased by David Lagettie, the creator of one of the largest open-world simulators - TitanIM. David was also involved in the development of simulators used in the military. In an interview for PC Pilot we can read that he wants to go back to the roots and produce high-quality strategy games and simulators, for which MicroProse was once known. Some of them will be announced later this year, and the first game – Warbirds 2020 – will appear in late 2019 or in the first quarter of 2020. It is also worth noting that Lagettie convinced Bill Stealey, the former owner of the company and co-founder of the Sid Meier's series, to work together.

They currently have a slate of eight games they're publishing from six different developers, two by Drakeling Labs and one by themselves. A full list of games under the MicroProse brand can be found here, of particular note is Regiments which had public betas available before joining the MicroProse brand. Warfare 1944 is currently in EA. The game talked about in the article is probably a remake of The Mighty Eighth.
I personally am most interested in Seapower.

Yeah, they've been on Youtube for a bit. I'm looking forward to Seapower since I trust the guys behind it to do a good job; a lot of it can be hackily accomplished in their previous game, Cold Waters, even. Task Force Admiral also looks like it'll be fun.

I'm glad to see the imprint come back, I have a lot of old Micropose games I'm quite fond of and they seem to be trying to continue in that mold.

Microprose in combination with developers from Sunfire Software of Stormworks: Build and Rescue fame have announced the production of another game today, a favorite from the good old days this game had a remake done in ~2012 by Bohemia Interactive which was considered mediocre and suffered from a bad port (to PC iirc, either way not the boat kind of port). The game of course is Carrier Command 2.

Unlike the rest of their games their is an estimated release date for this one, as apparently this has been in the works for quite some time already. The estimated release date is Q2 2021, about eighteen months from now. I for one am excited for this I like carriers.

Seems less like "Microprose is back" and more like "a new company is wearing Microprose's skin." Doesn't make me super confident in a company when tries to pull that sort of thing, but I'm not gonna come to conclusions on them until they've got some games out.

Wasn't there already a Carrier Command 2?

It was just not very good.

I've been following Task Force Admirals, seems broadly promising. Here's hoping!
Honestly, I'd kind of wish we'd get a game like that, but set in an Ace Combat/Advance Warsish alt history.

Like, you're fighting with real or plausible ships (except when you aren't and the enemy pulls out something crazy like a sea fortress), but the set up is different enough that everyone has enough ships that it's on something like equal terms.

The closest I can think of is Naval Ops : Warship Gunner.

You may have been watching this game's development beforehand, like Regiments earlier the Developer of High Fleet has gotten MicroProse to support their development. They have a youtube channel which occasionally shows off their game, including a demo of the strategic layer. The estimated release date is Q2 2021, coming after the estimated date of Carrier Command which was Q1 2021 last I checked; notable with CC2 they for a brief time had a defined release date of 1 April 2021 before they took that down. Anyway, gameplay seems to be fun looking, sort of a take on modern ish naval combat I suppose, but with airships, some airshipbuilding as well.

Oh I'm liking how Carrier Command 2 is shaping up, the currents being something you have to be mindful of is really cool.
