After failing to find any weak points with your scan or thermal visors, you engage the spider ball and move out through the lower pipe, clinging to the walls for fear of a sudden drop. A fear that proves quite founded.




As in the last room, a group of biomechanoids rise from the water below. Unlike in the last room, however, it is a pair of gunzus.

With plenty of ammo and space to maneuver, you feel more comfortable than last time you had to fight a pair of these. Flying around them, you outpace their evasive maneuvers with your meta-beam, waiting for them to get too close before risking a super missile. You dodge three volleys of micro-missiles before a fourth manages to hit you with a pair of warheads, though it isn't enough to knock you out of the air. (ENERGY 769/800)

You continue concentrating fire on the same gunzu, managing to avoid all four super missiles when they use them as well as most of the ensuing micro-warheads. Your target begins smoking. (ENERGY 767/800)

Three more hits, and the first gunzu follows up its umpteenth wide missile pair with a suicide charge, which you likewise dodge. You make a good start on its fellow, even hitting it with a super missile when it comes in too close for its EWAR to be much use before, unfortunately, it pegs you back with a super missile of its own that knocks you down into the water. You have less of an advantage, now that its aerial and you aren't, and hitting it is harder. A rain of bombs falls on you as you dodge its next set of missiles, barely able to shoot back between flurries of its own. Just as it fires its next pair of supers, however, your repulser recovers and you launch yourself free of the water, dodging its attacks and using a meta-beam barrage to finish it off, dodging its final charge. You manage to recover 10 energy and 1 super missile. (ENERGY 700/800, SUPER MISSILES 12/15)

As you descend through the broken machinery from the ceiling, a chorus of hisses and low gurgles echoe from the warrens and cave openings in the raw stone wall. The thermal visor warns you as jets of sticky acid fly in your direction, and a half dozen skinners try to leap out and grab you out of the air.

Unfortunately, two of the acid streams still hit you, and you only manage to kill two of the skinners before a pair of others land on you and begin clawing madly, their combined wait dragging you downward toward the malbolgi. (ENERGY 668/800)

You manage to bomb the things off of you, but you aren't able to switch back into your human form quickly enough to resume flight before falling into malbolge range. One of the gleaming, metallic polyps grabs the more intact of the skinners you've just dislodged. The other wraps its annulated tongue around your waist and pulls you into its hydraulic jaws.

You manage to drop enough bombs to make it release you, but not before it chomps down no fewer than four times. Fortunately, the other is still devouring the skinner as you fly away to the platform. The rest of the skinners wisely choose not to pursue you to near the cave floor (ENERGY 620/800).



You step toward the statue bearing its data sphere, but a purple, segmented ball drops from the ceiling with a loaded power bomb. An orpran.

You quickly fly back, getting out of range of the blast, before lowering your armcannon. You hit with a super missile and miss with another, but are unprepared for when, after firing its plasma beams, the orpran leaps up and cleaves into you with its massive blades before latching onto the metal wall and going back into its morph ball. Fortunately, you manage to land two more super missiles before it can drop another power bomb. (584/800, SUPER MISSILES 8/15)

Finally, you approach the statue, check for additional traps, and assimilate the data.

You ascend back upward. Once again, once your past the malbolgi tongue range, the skinners try to attack you.

Their acid jets miss. When three of them leap at you, you simple tuck your head downward and saumersault in the air, letting yourself dip slightly as you suspend a moment's worth of repulsion to engage the screw attack. The golden, scintillating shredder fields erupt from your spinning body like blades of energy. The skinners don't even have time to scream before they get sliced into neatly cauterized bits of mincemeat.

You proceed back up into the shredder, and blast the maldium door open.


You find yourself in a small, airlock like tunnel, with another maldium door overhead. A pair of lesser holtzes are waiting here, but they stand no chance (rolled -15, 3).

Unfortunately, the room above the next door is irradiated.




You quickly back drop down into the airlock. (ENERGY 581/800, SUPER MISSILES 6/15)

We've made some progress lately. Are we able to have some more small talk with The Patrician?

I wonder if we can power-bomb our way through the Bladed Maze. Just idle speculation, still have that new passage to explore.
