Mentor Quest

[X] The Impossible Task
[X] The Consumption- You know that the world is dying. Its magic and life being slowly drained. You have found out the one responsible for it, but their high position in society and your dying flesh, gets in the way of killing them and stopping the death of this world. ( The top brass has been corrupted and possessed by some outside force that is slowly sucking up the magic and life force of the world. This results in areas where the magic concentration is low and a population with high stillborn count. If the guy is not killed in the next 200 or so years, your world will become lifeless.)

Early Tally. Plan to call it tomorrow at 5:30 AM CST.

Going to call it early.

Since the Death of a God and Impossible Task are tied, I'll roll 1d2.

1 = Impossible Task

2 = Death of a God

Edit: Death of a God it is.

The next update will end Character Creation and also start up the Apprenticeships.

[X] The Death of a God.
[X] The Grandmaster.

You always knew it would happen.

You knew something would get you some day.

You've lived long enough to see a lot of things die.

Humans, elves, the undead.

You've even killed a God, beings thought to be immortal, with your bare hands!

However, you always thought you'd die on a job. That a random mistake would be your downfall. A misstep into a pit of spikes, saying the wrong word at the wrong time, or even just your hubris getting the better of you.

You had forgotten the one thing that gets everyone and everything in the end. The one thing that no one can fight against.

Father Time.

For everything and everyone, will die one day.

But, just because you're going to die, doesn't mean your knowledge should die with you. You have fought hard to keep the memory of your martial style alive. You have run, you have killed, and you have hid to make sure that what was taught to you by your master continues on.

Sure, maybe one day it will be lost to time. Maybe one day the last practitioner will fall and die without an heir to their name.

But that will not be this day.

The…

[] Hunting Beast Style will not die this day.
[] Spirit Thief Style will not die this day.
[] Write In Name will not die this day.

Not while you still breathe.

You hit the floor once with your fist and stand up. You set your face, indicating your resolve, and start to walk back to your desk.

You need to make some calls.

You sit down quickly, contemplating how you will go about this.

Your style is not an easy one to master.

It took you 50 long years before you could even call yourself a Grandmaster.

Only the best of the best will be able to fully learn all the teachings and truly become a Grandmaster. You know no one is born that good, so you will make them that good.

You will train them.

You will take on an heir.

But there are some matters to attend to first.

First, you need to decide how many you are willing to take. Having multiple apprentices will make it easier to find a suitable heir, but will also lessen your chance of forming close relationships with the kids. Which, while not a priority, will be essential in getting them to listen to you:

[] Close Knit. You only want one or two apprentices. That will make it easier to gain their trust and train them. Though if either die or leave during the training, you'll be out of luck. (Only one or two apprentices; They will have a +100 Bonus to Potential, allowing them to be trained for longer; If they die, you'll have to find more; Easier to hide)

[] A Little Family. You'll take the middle ground option. Only 3 to 5 trainees, but no more. It won't be as difficult as a larger group will be, and you will have other candidates if one happens to bite it or leave. (Three to Five apprentices; They will have a +50 Bonus to Potential; Isn't that bad if they die, but it will affect morale)

[] A Large Class. While it might be risky, you need an heir. If that means training an entire classroom worth of kids, so be it. (Twenty apprentices: No Potential Bonus; More difficult to form connections with; Harder to hide)

Second, you will need to decide how to go about finding an apprentice. You can see two ways to do so:

[] Do it yourself. Who better to decide who your apprentice will be than you? This might be playing it safe, but at least you'll know who and what you're getting. (Randomly Generated Apprentices; Know exactly what their skills are from the start; Locked if A Large Class was chosen.)

[] Contacts. You have made quite a few "friends" over the years. You owe them, and they owe you. It should be simple enough to send them letters telling them you are looking for someone to train. On the other hand though, they may send someone who is completely unsuited for your training or a spy.
-[] If chosen, who gets the letter?

--[] Daria "Fingerbones" Jones, the tiefling captain of the premier mercenary band in Gonia, the Crimson Oars. She'll get you some kids with combat capability, though you'll probably get a lot of frontline fighters instead of assassins. (Higher chance of getting warriors and fighters)
--[] Sorian "Large Tracts" Domonique, the biggest man….escort in the city. Not to mention the owner of the best Brothel this side of Gonia, where most of the High Merchant's mistresses were….trained. He'll get you people that can talk the talk, but not so much walk the walk. (Higher chance of getting diplomats and seducers)
--[] Hugo and Haga, the Twin Apostates. While the College might like to think it has a monopoly on Mages, there are always those that slip through the wire. The two elves would lead some of these outsiders to your doorstep, though working with magic has never been your specialty. Though you might get some kids who would do better in your line of work. (Higher chance of getting magic users and thieves)
--[] All of them. No point in limiting yourself. You'll need all you can get. (Random Chance of All of the Above)

Lastly, you need to inform someone. While not everyone may know it, you are one of the most powerful people in all of Kwethe right now. You getting close to death is big news. Not informing your allies, especially if you just ask them to send an apprentice your way for no reason, could make them feel alienated. They would feel shafted and angry that you didn't think to share this information with them. Think that you might see your relationship with them as nothing more than a joke.

Of course, it would also be smart to not tell anyone. Information like that is the type that can really tip the balance in someone's favor.

If you're going to tell anyone, it has to be the person you trust the most. And that person is:

[] Daria
[] Sorian
[] Hugo and Haga
[] All of them
[] Yourself

Ok so notes about the choices:

- The first choice is self-explanatory. How many apprentices will you take?

- The second choice is how you go about getting them. Once again, pretty self explanatory.

- The last choice is more about Brozo's relationships with his contacts. This will determine who it is that Brozo puts his trust in the most. Choosing to tell only one of his contacts will greatly boost their friendship, and increase your chance of calling on them for help later. If you choose the same contact for this choice that you picked in the second choice, you will have a higher chance of getting a better trainee. If you choose to tell all of them, then there won't be a very large change in the relationship with any of them, though it will help you get more favors from them. If you choose Brozo, then none of the contacts' relationships will increase. Though be careful, if they out that you're dying and you don't tell them they could become...cross.

Am absolutely shit at names, so Thief Style it is. Definitely want people we can train up fast and are easy to hide, so it was this or the second option. Everything else was right out. Should also want to know precisely whom our apprentices are and what skills they've got to leverage this to our advantage, especially since I'm going with only one or two apprentices. And without a doubt, be sure to tell everyone we trust. Can't afford to alienate anyone right out of the gate, especially since we haven't even met them yet(Or talked to them. Or wrote to them. Or... You get the point).

I'm incredibly tempted to just get two students and power level to the ends of the earth, but then I realized that this is a great opportunity for our very own (somewhat reduced) Assassination Classroom with students of different and colorful personalities and backgrounds!

Who knows? Maybe they'll all unite to try and kill us one day! That would be a fun final test.

As for the name, none of them really call out to me, but I can't think of any better ones either. I'm open to being convinced on that one.

I was tempted to give a summary of their personality in the choices, but I felt like it would be better to show instead of tell and have the meet up be done in the next update.

What's the difference between Spirit Thief style and Hunting Beast style?

Nothing really.

Just putting a name to the style.

However, a bit of trivia, both are taken from two other media.

Hunting Beast Style is the name of a True Strife from Godbound that allows you to literally know exactly where your prey is at all times.

Spirit Thief Style is from the Bioware game Jade Empire and is focused on stealing the...well Spirit from your enemy, tiring them out so they can't actually fight back.
