Honestly, the gambling place is probably pretty low money for Ciaran, like she might be interested in owning the whole place as a side revenue stream for operations in the system.

Ciaran is a very wealthy lady.

Look beyond mere money. It's an opportunity to observe important people without it being illegal, it develops further her image and it gives an easier in into any wealthy party. We can also paint it as a no-Separatists thing, emphasising that while CNS is a powerfull polity, it is a part of the Republic and it is friendly to the Senate.

Because of your like bombing, I've got a similar amount.
Welcome to the thread. If you think you've completed your descent, speak to me again when the thread hits 1k pages.
I concur. It was constructive, though, as it brought to mind the Thrawn / Anakin omake which I've been writing avoiding reworking. Fancy that, trying to write from Thrawn's perspective is tricky.

Man, Solo bombed so hard because it was an awful movie in many levels, casting, script, themes...

I don't see why is the Last Jedi is to blame on that.

I know several people that didn't go see it because of how terrible they thought TLJ was. Personally I was just never interested in it, though TLJ did play it's part lowering my expectations, making it so I wasn't really surprised when it flopped.

The Last Jedi is a pretty well received movie (91 on Rotten Tomatoes, 85 on Metacritic) that nevertheless provoked epic level nerd rage; the likes of which have not been seen since they announced the new Ghostbusters would be all-female.

Do not watch The Last Jedi if you are prone to nerd rage, or frequently find your childhood ruined. If you have strong opinions on the identity of Rey's parents, or find Snoke's backstory to be of vital importance, avoid watching The Last Jedi or seeking spoilers. If you watch The Last Jedi and your rage boner lasts for more than 4 hours, please get the fuck over it.

If this doesn't describe you, it's on Netflix. Give it a shot.

You forgot to mention that those who hate Mary-Sues will not like the movie.

Although to put into context the 91 is just the Critical reviews, the audience score is 46. Similarly Metacritic's user score is 4.5/10. As such there is a major discrepency between the Critics and the viewers for this one.

There are reasons to not like the move other than fanboys raging. I don't dislike it because it "ruined my childhood" or anything, I just think it wasn't a good movie.

I watched TLJ as a non Starwars fan, and didn't mind it initially. But the more I considered the plot, storytelling, and cinematography; the stupider the movie was. YMMV.

I just thought it was booooring.

They could have turned it around with an unexpected 'bad guy character development' moment, and they tried. But he was outplayed so hard immediately afterwards that it ruined any excitement I had got from that one moment.

Personal Opinion on TLJ: it was okay for a single viewing, not great, but it's easy to submerge yourself. However, it didn't live up to 'show this to my possible future kids' that the originals and ironically I think the sequels has us look back at the prequels and say 'these weren't as bad as I thought. Incredibly cheesy at times, but it added charm'.

TLJ had several good concepts, but they were fairly poorly executed. I feel like they just took the first draft of the script and then failed to proofread it and/or consult with the multitude of Legends Lore you could draw ideas from.

I don't think of Rey as a Mary Sue because the term is so misused. What she is is inconsistent with the established lore. Specifically, she gets too good too quickly. Jedi training, or any kind of force use, takes years to learn. Even Luke, who is absurdly strong in the force, takes 4 years between episodes 4 and 6 to be able to defeat Vader.

Rey is able to use the force actively with no training whatsoever and then, upon picking up a lightsaber for the first time ever, can fight fairly evenly with a sith apprentice.

Then she trains with Luke for a few days and is suddenly an incredibly capable force user.

And to make things worse, there isn't really an explanation for this: she explicitly has no powerful lineage, etc. It is quite frustrating.

Yeah TLJ has a lot of holes that appear very quickly once you think about it or watch a second time, like I've seen a clip of the royal guard fight where one of the guard had Ray dead to rights with a dagger in hand that he could easily plunge in her back in plain view.....that they edited out in as the arm passed behind Ray. Seriously I am not kidding they did that.

Not to mention the guards who fight each other

On the subject of lightsabers taking years of training, there is also Finn vs the other stormtrooper. Or Ren not killing Finn in seconds, since Finn isn't precognitive and has no resistance to being force choked.

Also, suddenly stun batons have energy fields that can block a lightsaber? Why don't they use that stuff for everything?

You're not wrong, but reviewbombing is a factor here. Broader opening day polling by Cinemascore and other polling firms found a more positive reception.

At the end of the day, it's a film that much of the internet and most hardcore fans hated, but outside that it was well liked. Just did not appeal to the what would be considered a "core" demographic, which is weird but whelp. And it doesn't help that this demographic is loud when displeased. JJ's a nerd at heart. I'm sure IX will have more of a Star Wars feel to it, even if the whole sequel trilogy has rehash written all over it.
