If we make one-way force seals the size of a thumbnail, I wonder how powerful we could make them?

Having seals at such a size would mean we could create recoil-less ammunition for guns if we so desired. The more powerful the force we could have, the faster we could have small ammunition travel. With rifling and enough accuracy (from training, a scope, precise mathematical calculations, w/e) we would be able to snipe a target from outside of their Awareness range.

All we would have to have Hazou to do is make a line of them, feed them through a gun and with a decent amount of practice he could activate each seal when it is inside the barrel (or we could make a way for the seals themselves to react when they hit a certain point in said barrel).

Tada, now we have a machine gun too.

What would be in-character reason for our ninjas to learn advanced subjects? Accounting for merchant trade? How good is the MfD natural philosophy?

Also, we should buy a geography book. Particularly, I want to go to the Land of Sea and set up a long term base there.

To add to @Kiba's question, here's the relevant quote to my answer. I'm unaware whether this has changed. Emphasis added.
Rules for storage seals:
1. Each seal has a maximum volume it can contain, set at creation time.
2. Each seal has a maximum mass it can contain, set at creation time.
3. Typical values are 1m^3 and 100kg.
...

Books sound fan-fucking-tastic right about now.

I would absolutely love to go to a library to read not only w/e is available to the unwashed masses (and maybe break into a bookworm aristocrat's home if necessary). We would also have a chance to see how and how far news spreads in MfD: what exactly happened after our little incident in Hot Springs? What is the common consensus other ordinary people have drawn from it? How well, if at all, can we gauge the current political climate following the news of the incident... or are the ninjas trying to keep news and/or specifics of said incident contained?

There is just so much to learn and we know hardly anything for a group of informants/spies in Jiraiya's network. We need basic knowledge like 'ninjas cooperate to keep the peace in DMZ's' so we can prevent such easily avoidable mistakes in the future.

It would help if you link the original post for referencing rather than simply quoting Velorien.
I'm confused. What "original post"? That quote is the original post, since it's where we first obtained that info, and there is a link to the actual post in the form of the little blue arrow at the top of the quote. What could I have done to avoid you being passive-aggressive towards me here?

I am not being passive-aggressive here, pardon for any implied tone.

But I must note that I never noticed the blue arrow link before. Thank you for drawing my attention.

What @Velorien said, and also this:
Our storage scrolls won't take more than a hundred kilos. We might be able to find some bigger ones, though." He was careful to say 'find' instead of 'make'. Granted, it would need some research, but it shouldn't be hard to make higher-capacity scrolls.

Also, as to this:
We should find a technique that requires ludicrously high Int but little else for Hazou to use his Intelligence toward in combat. ...not sure how you'd explain searching for that kind of technique, though.
Maybe something like this?

You are missing a space between [X] and Training... Not sure if EJ's bot corrects for that.
It does, no worries.

Added another potential long term project to the current issues post in my sig, focusing on how we could undercut the effectiveness of scorch squads as a form of covert warfare.

[] Brainstorm Everyone: Scorch Squad Squash
Background
  • Kagome suggests that the sparseness of the population is the fundamental reason behind the effectiveness of scorch squads.
    • Can we fix either or both of the contributing problems?
      • The difficulty of patrolling large areas of populated land
      • The difficulty of growing enough food in a small area to support a condensed population
    • Make that technique or technology available
      • globally?
      • to our allies?
    • Doing this might be a quick way to modify the tradeoffs for that method of warfare.
Some initial brainstorming
  • Teleportation tech like the safety poles/safety sticks in Significant Digits (which we may want to keep for ourselves/Hidden Heaven)
  • Automated defenses against ninja (golems? seal-based clones?)
    • Would need to be good enough to stand up to jounin, which implies that this would only be a good solution at much higher power levels than we're currently playing with
  • TH-ing plant growth jutsu, or creating relevant seals
  • Combining existing jutsu and seals in a clever way that optimizes plant growth
  • Bigger-on-the-inside tech to let people farm in their own homes (heavily modified storage seals?)
Further Steps
  • Get the team's thoughts/critiques/contributions, and start working on the approach we judge to be most promising
  • Hopefully suggest the ideas / show the early results to Jiraiya in the hopes of getting more input/support and maybe convincing him we can be a force for good
    • Based on his previous statements about e.g. wanting to build a world without suicide missions, not wanting a world war, this seems like the sort of project he might be on board with

If you make existing land more productive, then people would naturally migrate to cities, and it become easier to patrol because you require less land to grow enough food.

You don't need to do the whole in-house agriculture unless you are really concerned about space efficiency.

For sure, that's what this part is for:
  • TH-ing plant growth jutsu, or creating relevant seals
  • Combining existing jutsu and seals in a clever way that optimizes plant growth
Cases when you would want in-house agriculture are like, sieges or active warfare when enemy squads would go around burning crops and causing local famines due to the density of people.

Plants justsu and seals are fine, but you should consider more mundane methods of improving agriculture productivity.

What are farmers doing now? What tools are they using? What we did in our history to improve productivity?

I didn't even think of that, really... this is how you end up with canon Harry Potter, isn't it? People just jumping at using magical bullshit to solve all their problems and not considering other options. Anyway, added the following to "further steps":
Learn about current agricultural practices and try to figure out improvements to equipment or techniques (e.g. better fertilizers, seed drills, focused selective breeding...)

Agricultural techniques/seals in general would be a good thing to have, if only for passing ourself off as the reincarnation of Hashirama.
And Madara Uchiha (Poor Man's Sharingan) and the Fourth Hokage (PMYF) and the Sage of Six Paths (various worldbreaking bullshittery) and Salazar Slytherin (because really, how else do you explain the audacity and genius of this thread?)

E: And probably the Liberator as well, since we're doing the whole uplift thing.

We'd need sealless regeneration to impress canon!Madara, and he's probably not the only one who's that picky.

[jk] Bug Jiraiya until he has Tsunade teach Creation Rebirth to the party

How do we do PMSharingan?

*shrugs* Sealless technique for chakra boosting our brain, the same way we chakra-boost our muscles normally? Biomodification to give ourselves vastly improved reaction times and processing power? Combine both of the above with hypnotic genjutsu seals tattooed on all our foreheads?

Fake E: man, why not write out the whole abbreviation? :p

Aren't we missing the jutsu-copy thing?

 Don't tattoo seals onto your forehead, skin shifts around way too much! Do you want to walk around with tentacles coming out of your forehead!?

Tattoo them onto your eyeballs instead! Sclerae are way more rigid :D

I don't really want to give Hazou PMS...:(

Do you want to walk around with tentacles coming out of your forehead!?
That might be pretty useful, actually, depending on how well-behaved they were.

Tattoo them onto your eyeballs instead! Sclerae are way more rigid :D
I was gonna say eyeballs, but like, that seems so derivative, you know?

Aren't we missing the jutsu-copy thing?
Yeah, that's why it's the poor man's version :p
