  • Meet with Mari, Kei, Snowflake, Noburi under full OPSEC procedures
    • We are rapidly approaching a potential showdown Akatsuki over the rift and we need to start prepping for it
      • Mari you're our primary heavy hitter how do you feel you stack up to them
        • What seals would help your combat style?
      • Noburi you're our secondary heavy hitter
        • We want you to go all in on developing new summoning contracts. Spend all the money you need to secure new contracts
        • Do everything you can to get the sages and Gamabunta to see you favorably.
          • Maybe play up avenging Jiraiya
        • If their are any techniques you think you can get let us know
      • We're going to be heading out again to get the Squirrel Scroll and more of that weird crystal soon
        • Noburi, Kei and Snowflake you need to go on some combat missions to make sure your ready for the trip
        • Hazou isn't sure on team composition because he might be stuck doing seal research but he wants everyone to be ready.
    • Relay our conversations with Yuno about Jashinism
      • Hidan may be a charismatic cult leader, but socials are your specialization Mari. Could you un-brainwash Yuno?
      • Would help from another social spec be productive? Ami might leap at the chance to free someone from being slaved to the will of a god. Would you be comfortable working together/in tandem with her?
      • We'd appreciate your advice (regarding steering Yuno away from Jashin while still accepting her love of violence), and your help (with ensuring Yuno doesn't cause any incidents).
    • Ino and the sale of Hazou's personal Goo Bomb seals
      • Optimize with Mari
      • Initial Proposal:
        • Supply is for genin-use only
          • Each genin gets an initial set of three seals (be willing to negotiate to four/five, but not much more)
          • and can get another three seals once more after they have used all three (be willing to go up and down on this as Mari suggest)
        • One Year Duration, revisiting the trade deal afterwards.
        • What're the Yamanaka Clan offering?
    • Offscreen publicly denounce Jashinism

  • Meet with Mari, Kei, Snowflake, Noburi
    • Relay our conversations with Yuno about Jashinism.
    • Yuno's hurting...
      • ...from her isolation within Isan, which catalyzed her love of violence
      • ...from Akane's death (arguably her first friend), which reinforced that violence was all she understood
    • Maybe Yuno was already predisposed towards Jashinism, but Hidan got to Yuno when she was hurting, and radicalized her. He saw a target in Yuno, and filled the cracks in her heart with bullshit.
    • She'll probably try to convert the entire clan, starting with y'all.
    • Mari:
      • Hidan may be a charismatic cult leader, but socials are your specialization. Could you un-brainwash Yuno?
      • Would help from another social spec be productive? Ami might leap at the chance to free someone from being slaved to the will of a god. Would you be comfortable working together/in tandem with her?

    • Also: any ideas on how to recoup our reputation?
  • Ino and the sale of Hazou's personal Goo Bomb seals
    • Internally:
      • Put on "Goketsu Clan Head" Hat.
      • The Yamanaka Clan Head wants a commission that eats into our best sealmaster's valuable time. Luckily, it's prosocial in intent, and our clans are allied. Allowances can be made where they might not otherwise be.
      • Trade in (and assume) good faith
    • Initial Proposal (sanity checked by Mari)
      • The Yamanaka Clan promises not to sell or reverse engineer them.
      • Supply is for genin-use only
        • Each genin gets three seals (be willing to negotiate to four/five, but not much more)
        • Genin are resupplied upon return from missions.
      • One Year Duration, revisiting the trade deal afterwards.
      • Goketsu Hazou will work to provide a backstock within the Goketsu Clan so that, should he be unavailable to resupply a Yamanaka genin, they're not inconvenienced.
      • We don't really need cash, so...
      • What're the Yamanaka Clan offering?
    • Let Hazou-pilot and Ino take it from there.
  • Offscreen
    • Ask Noburi...
      • To test if sealing an object sterilizes it (spirits are questionably alive).
      • Whether Arachnid Silk bandages would be an improvement for the hospital?
        • If so, donate a lot. We have ES50 and can afford to take a temporary hit on Arachnid Silk Trade.
    • Publicly denounce Jashinism
      • Optimize with Mari/Kei

@_The_Bomb
  • Not going to nitpick the Yamanaka Trade Deal. We're acting in good faith and assuming good faith. Not every clan is as detail-oriented as the Nara, and trade deals seem to be a bit sparce on word count as a matter of practice. Getting into the weeds is what nearly got us in trouble with Orochimaru. We can assume that Ino and the Yamanaka Clan will do right by us, since they have a proven track record to that effect.
  • I have edited to make an allowance for Yuno being predisposed towards Jashinism, but emphasized that Hidan got to her when she was emotionally vulnerable, and saw an easy target.
  • If you want me to include something about Hazou maybe being able to set religious tenants, please provide some phrasing for me to try and incorporate. Word count is high, but I promise I'll at least try and find the room for it. Obviously, the smaller the phrasing, the easier it'll be.
@acidshill and @Sir Stompy
  • Moved the question about reputation to the Yuno meeting, since it's relatively on topic (Jashinism, dealing with the fallout of Hidan, etc). Good catch.
  • I don't think we need Mari's sanity check, either because the risk of "getting a bad deal" (Ino knows the value of what she's asking for, and is going to be trading in good faith), or because we need Mari's help (Hazou hasn't had a major interpersonal misstep with his romantic relationships in a while), but I added a line about Mari sanity checking the initial proposal. This should thread the line of "make sure we're not doing anything stupid" and "This is easily within Hazou's wheelhouse, and doesn't need his hand held 24/7."
@Twinnstars
  • I've implemented your phrasing re: Yuno.

-----------------------------------
Side note: Jesus fuck these past few IRL months have been stressful.

Akane died, fall out, suspecting Asuma, getting gaslit by Mari and Kei, EM Nuke creation and interpersonal fallout, EM Nuke and political fallout, Failing to save Isan, the Conclave idiots not wanting to save their own skins, speedrunning the Minato seals, racing towards ES50, using ES50 to fix our clan's Medium Consequence, discovering 3D Sealing, Hidan showing up and trashing our reputation, Hidan slaughtering innocents while we're forced to do nothing, Hidan forcing Hazou to slaughter bandits, Hidan radicalizing Yuno just as she's in the middle of her own character growth, Jin and Mio being stupid, ungratetful, childish idiots about jutsu, and Kagome expressing hurt that he'll only be remembered as the guy who taught Hazou, and Kagome expressing discontent that he's putting in all this hard work, and that Hazou'll swoop in and finish it, and get the acclaim.

Can we please have something wholesome soon? A beach episode, a wholesome Hazou-does-Sealing-with-Harumitsu, an AU Akane-Hazou wedding, a Snowflake Interrupt where she blatantly confesses her love to Hazou because Sage knows that the boy won't pick up on it otherwise, an Ami Interrupt where she and Hazou eat shaved ice and braid each other's hair again, Shard apologizing for her lashing out, something?

At this point, I'll even take a meager, two-line moment, like when Hazou hugged Akane immediately after Hidan forced Hazou to play cards for the people of Bakuchioka.

Mention that Noburi can highlight "avenging Jiraiya's death" when negotiateimg with gamabutna.

I also think that giving yamanaka genin an unlimited supply of goo bombs, but only 3 at a time, is a bad way to approach this trade.
It incentivises each genin on a team to use their first 1-2 goo bombs casually, because they can easily get a restock at goketsu expense.
It also incentivises the genin(and other yamanaka) to missreport their goo bomb usage to build up a stockpile. They are ninja. They want to survive. They will do this.

Giving a fixed payout of (for example) 200 seals lets know how much sealmaster time we're trading, instead of writing a blank check. It encourages the genin to use the seals mindfully, and not scam us.
If/when they run out, we can sell them more seals.

Also, giving our allies a strong reason to invisibly defect against us seems bad for our alliance, and kind of rude.

I have edited to make an allowance for Yuno being predisposed towards Jashinism, but emphasized that Hidan got to her when she was emotionally vulnerable, and saw an easy target.

No. I categorically refuse to deliberately leave large loopholes in our contracts on the assumption that the other party won't act on them. That's not acting in good faith, that's just ignoring standard practices to save a small amount of word count.

I love literally everything else about this trade deal, so add a few words and I'll vote for it in a heartbeat.

Ino and the sale of Hazou's personal Goo Bomb seals
I would prefer if the proposed deal was run past Mari, and that she was asked for advice on how to navigate this situation.
I don't think we need Mari's sanity check, either because the risk of "getting a bad deal"
It's not a sanity check IMO as much as asking her advice on how to navigate this situation. She's a world-class expert on interpersonal relationships and I feel like she has something to contribute here. IMO this is tricky to navigate and asking her for advice about it seems extremely normal.

[X] Action Plan: Irons in the fire

I take it this is a one day plan? No need for sealing research if so, I suppose.
I'm def open to time skipping a bit but does feel like a one day plan.a

Good idea

Good plan, I'm kinda thinking about just asking her in the first scene and then just use that advice for the negotiations in the second scene

I'm about to grab lunch but will hit some edits after

So, that thinking makes total sense but it also heads straight into meetings to plan meetings territory.

I think heist logic is the way to go - point Mari at something with the general beats of her side of a plan while Hazō does his bit.

Modify MS8 to latch onto the rift, push chakra into it to open it up infinitesimally, then send a sensor through it to get readings on status of the rift and on the other side. (in theory, this seal would open the rift if used from both sides)
Just to clarify, we don't need Naruto's tenketsu to do this part? That's to blow the entire rift open later.
According to all evidence so far, the rift is a extremely malformed storage channel. It would be very tough, but it's theoretically possible to move the channel (though it would need to be done carefully to prevent the rift from degrading too much).
Does Kagome have any ideas about how to accomplish this?

What about adapting an MS into a sealing array that encapsulates the end of the storage channel in a chakra construct, and then moving the array on this side of the rift? Does he think that has potential?
especially without an S-rank sealmaster on your side.
Kagome I have news for you!
Kagome has no ideas, and doesn't even know if it's possible
What does Kagome think about using an adapted MS, that encapsulates the user in an invisible+intangible chakra construct. The construct has enough environmental chakra that it gets ablativly drained

It's totally fine if the answers to these are "Kagome thinks we need to take more readings first esp on the other side of the rift." I'm kinda expecting that tbh.

Does Kagome need or desire additional diagnostic seals to work on the Rift?

PSA: After much discussion, the QMs have decided that the Earth Infusion stunt is on the menu.

Having the Great Seal stored in the Iron Nerve counts as sufficient reference material to learn 3D sealing. As soon as he has the XP, Hazō is clear to buy Earth Infusion and start learning how 3D sealing works.
For clarification, can we-the-players know in advance of buying the stunt how much crystal we will be eating up to buy the stunt?

Yeah this is def more the vibe I want to go with
Thanks, glad to hear it!

A way to help make "only give these to Genin" the naturally optimal choice for the Yamanaka: infuse TN50 goo bombs instead of TN60 ones.
If their opponent is making skill checks of 50+, a Genin is probably fucked anyway.
But a TN50 goo bomb is much less useful to a Chunin/Jounin than a TN60 one. Especially if it taking it means leaving your Genin less equipped.

-----

@_The_Bomb If Ino is sufficiently betrayal-happy that she'd turn on the Goketsu the moment she has a loophole to do so, I consider *learning that this is true* more important than being the only goo bomb provider in leaf.

Rephrased: If she's the kind of person who would betray us(for fairly little profit, even!) when we're trying to help her, losing exclusivity on goo bombs is a chap price to learn that.

Why pay 3 per genin twice, not 6 per genin once? What does staggering this accomplish?
My envisioned offer would be "10 per genin, all given at once." It's simpler and easier for everyone.

Drop the "1year duration" line: the deal is now a sale, not an ongoing supply contract.

[X] Action Plan: Irons in the fire
[X] Velorien please write the conclave update

His plan remains basically same:
  1. Modify MS8 to latch onto the rift, push chakra into it to open it up infinitesimally, then send a sensor through it to get readings on status of the rift and on the other side. (in theory, this seal would open the rift if used from both sides)
  2. Depending on those readings and how chakra flows through the rift, design a "channel" that could take a massive chakra flow from the Fox's opened tenketsu and channel it into the rift to forcibly inflate it. (depending on Kagome's prediction on cavitation)
So this plan does confirm that we'll need a research trip purely to gather data once we finish our initial tech tree. Except it might not be the only research trip we need:
Kagome has no ideas, and doesn't even know if it's possible.
The readings we need about the Path Drain may not be available from just the MS8 readings; we may need to fully open the rift before we can test what the local conditions are and start theorizing. Important: there is no relevant diagnostic seal for us to work on at this time, but this might change after the MS8 research trip.
Kagome has no idea, but his intuition is that it would be dangerous to the summon (or summoner, in the case of reverse summoning). The Summon Scroll charts a path between the Human and the Seventh Paths, and there's no reason to think it would work between Naraka and Seventh. He does not want to run experiments, as he suspects any experiment would be immediately lethal.
This is a more definitive rejection. Not only do we not have anything to research, the whole endeavor seems absurd (and absurdly risky) to Kagome. We could, in theory, try to gather more data once we have the rift fully open, but given Kagome's confidence here it seems like an option with a low value proposition. We'd be better off focusing on other advantages.
After some thinking, muttering, and a good bit of complaining about face-eating, skin-melting monsters, Kagome begrudgingly accepts that he doesn't yet know why this would be impossible. According to all evidence so far, the rift is a extremely malformed storage channel. It would be very tough, but it's theoretically possible to move the channel (though it would need to be done carefully to prevent the rift from degrading too much).
And this is the big hope. If we win this then we have an easy way to deny the rift to Akatsuki, solving all our problems there in one fell swoop. The only problem is that this could be anywhere from "hard, but Hazou is really good" to "so hard even Jiraiya would want to set up a huge veterancy-grinding seal chain to build up to it". We'll see if that changes as we get our MS8 data, and maybe the MS8 data will give us some leverage to design a better diagnostic seal for when we have the rift truly open.

In total, plans for a research trip now look like this, to my understanding:
  1. With a modified MS8, we return to the rift to gather data without re-opening the rift. This may provide an unknown amount of useful information to us.
  2. When we have the means to open the rift, and if the MS8 trip did not provide sufficient information on these domains, we return to the rift and open it up with the intention of figuring out:
    • By which means the Path Drain can be avoided.
    • Whether moving the rift is a viable project or a pipe dream.
Special mention also goes to Primordial Sealing and its potential ability to channel enough chakra to avoid the need for Tenketsu-rupturing mad science. It's a bit of a longshot because of how little we know about the discipline, but we do know that the Great Seal was built to handle a truly enormous amount of chakra and that the Seedling intended to use all nine bijuu to fuel itself. If we can solve this part of the reopening with a powerful rune, all the better for us.

We're going to be heading out again to get the Squirrel Scroll and more of that weird crystal soon
I very much disagree with committing ourselves to a long adventure on another continent in the middle of the Necromancy race. Staying home and continuing to work on our seals may not be glamorous as running around killing people and taking their things, but it's genuinely the best option available to us if we don't want the quest to end with Pein taking control of the world.
