Really, all this means is that Kei has the pyramid space for any craziness we could come up with, using 500xp and a handful of jutsu. She has the room if we want to raise a jutsu up to a level 30-slot, she has enough 10s that we can tack on a bunch of level 20s...

Since we don't really know the fine details of the mechanics, we can't calculate the most optimal of things. We haven't really even seen any of them in combat... Thus, I'm leaning towards raising the jutsu that cause debuffs. Debuffs are hella nice.

Voting still hasn't been opened by EJ so I think the idea is we vote after his update drops

Sadly, I do not think Ranged Weapons is a particularly good stat to raise to the highest levels. Unlike Taijutsu, which we know scales that high, weapons seem to struggle at that tier. We know a few S-rank weapons users, but by and large they seem to be using magic weapons. While we could probably use MARS and related sealtech to approximate magic weapons for Kei, I think it would be far better if we could get her some S-rank Wind (or another element!) ninjutsu, or especially paper jutsu. The halfcost benefits of ninjutsu specialization would help alleviate the Snowflake taxation.
@Paperclipped @eaglejarl @Velorien

Do we know if there are Stunts that would make RW scale appropriately at higher levels?

Because if not, then we may want to consider taking advantage of this opportunity to respec Kei to use Shadow Imitation as her main attack stat. With 500xp, we could raise it to ~30.

PSA: Requesting player review on mechanics rework

One of the abilities of the Frozen Skein is "The Best Laid Schemes", which defines the Mori clan's Final Technique. The intent, and the MfD-canon description of it, is that it makes you incredibly dangerous for a brief time but it always either kills you or throws you into a coma for a very long time. The version we have doesn't reflect that very well and we're looking at revamping it. The actual technique has never been shown onscreen in MfD so it will cause no retcons. Also, it's unlikely that it will ever be shown onscreen so this is more scratching an itch than anything else.

Both @Velorien and I have signed off on this version but we would like to get an outside perspective. Does it reflect the intent well? Is there anything we're missing about it? Note that there aren't a lot of Mori in the world and using this technique takes one of them out for essentially forever, which is the answer to "if they can do this then why don't the Mori rule the world?" Are there other aspects of the Frozen Skein that should be reviewed at the same time?

Note that we are only looking at changing 'The Best Laid Schemes'. The current intent is that all other parts of the Frozen Skein would remain unchanged.

Frozen Skein: The Best Laid Schemes

Based off the flavor when I make more sense your enemies have to make roles to see if they beat your optimization on your tagged actions then what's you currently have written down?

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped Point of clarification for seal research, you need to test prototypes while completing a design, right?

Also, any aerodynamics/fluid dynamics/acoustic science experts here, I would appreciate any insights you have regarding this idea. If we managed to create this, it might be another weapon that actually works on some of the fleshier Dragons.

So basically, we've got the Banshee Seal (150 dB) that's within Kagome's skill level, and the Banshee Fucker (175 dB) that afaik only Jiraiya could make. (Unless Kagome can make them now?) If we wanted to use our S-Rank sealing and push things 25 more dB... things get kind of weird. Assuming Standard Atmosphere, 194 dB is when the soundwave oscillation becomes so large, vacuums start forming between 'bounces' of the wave and it can't get any louder because there's no air to carry the vibration. Instead, the increased energy just starts shoving air away and you get a shockwave moving at faster than the speed of sound (which makes sense. To simplify things, a shockwave is essentially soundwaves constantly piling up into a bigger and bigger wave because they can't get out of the way fast enough. Therefore, the slowest shockwave would be just above the local speed of sound.)

So, what exactly happens when you have a 200 dB sealing engine running continuously, rather than a single-instant loud sound? I really don't know. I've tried asking some r/askphysics type places and emailing some public uni physics departments but haven't really gotten anything useful out of it, similarly to when we were asking about EM nuke.

My best guess is, the shockwave loses energy as it travels, and at some distance will lose enough energy to stop shoving air out of the way and balance out with the inward pressure of the atmosphere, making a sort of 'shock dome' where the outward pressure of the banshee equalizes with air pressure pushing in. During this initial burst of energy it would essentially be like an Implosion Seal but maybe even more destructive as the air is moving over the speed of sound, though how much air, I don't know. (I don't think it actually creates a true vacuum like implosion seals so I'm not positive on how they stack up vs. each other.) Presumably, the higher your dB the bigger this dome would become/the more powerful the initial outward rushing shockwave would be. 240 dB is like, nuclear bomb territory. I have absolutely no idea what the conditions would be like inside of the dome. From what little I've studied regarding shockwaves, I think it would be a very low-pressure region but that's about all I can speculate. Presumably anything inside the continuous shock dome would be dead if the initial blast wave didn't blow it apart.

The other thing I don't know: How would you calculate where the pressure equalizes? e.g. how do you predict the size of the shock dome? How fast does shockwave energy dissipate as it travels, e.g. how far from the banshee can you be for the shockwave to still have enough energy to kill you? 200 dB might have a relatively small camp-sized 'blast radius' or it could level a town, I really don't know. I'm thinking probably closer to the former at 200 dB. (Though even if the shockwave isn't exploding people instantly, it would still be deafening them and probably rupturing lungs and the like from sudden pressure change.)

Also, fun fact, this would probably be loud enough for the entire Elemental Nations to hear.

EDIT: Ah, forgot to mention, shockwaves lose energy as they travel because they heat up the medium that they're traveling through, so that's another thing I'm not sure about. Maybe the heat gets dissipated at the edge of the dome or maybe the inside of the dome becomes an oven by the end, idk.

EDIT 2: Seems like for reference the Saturn V was about 200 dB when taking off, and it obviously didn't kill the people inside of the capsule during takeoff (the capsule is pressurized after all), though everyone outside the capsule had to stay like 3+ miles away during takeoff for safety. Even people directly overseeing the launch had to stay in a bunker a mile away. Apparently the launch pad had a sound suppression system to prevent the craft from just shaking itself apart immediately (nowadays they pump water onto the launch pad and bring it down to 140 dB or so, can't tell what they did at the time.) So uh, I actually have no idea how much insight this really gives. I can see testimonies of people on the beach 5 miles away saying the rushing air was pushing their clothes taut and such.

This thread discusses it some but take the comments with a grain of salt, as I've seen multiple times the whole 'melting concrete and igniting grass from sound alone' stuff is not true, and the liftoff was closer to ~203 dB than to 220 dB.

Apparently, this is what it looks like when you make a continuous 200 dB sound. Not a single dome, but a constant barrage of expanding domes. You can only even see it because water vapor is instantly condensing from the pressure change. This is with the sound suppression system active.

This should be possible to recreate with the Wind Element: Repetition Jutsu, which (according to the google doc) "Any sound heard in that zone in the initial phase will be repeatedly recreated afterwards until the jutsu fades in a couple hours."

So we can take a 200dB Banshee Seal and crank it up to an insane degree. Might be enough for a Dragon? Or if we ever need to fight a Tailed Beast.

We'll definitely need to use EM Nuke protocols, though (long range, shadow clone suicide combo).

Come to think of it, is this a subtle pun on "kira-kira" meaning "sparkling"?

Also, I'm afraid Persona trumpts Death Note, if only because of the second season. (Also, brainwashing people in Persona 5 is a much more effective, if slower, way of dealing with criminals than the Death Note.)
No, it's just another instance, like my name, of me unintentionally trolling you as a translator.

Same as OTP's but swaps Guardians 20 for Imitation 20. If Kei would like to use Nara's signature shiny, and she would (she even notes it is generally strong), especially when she is lacking attacks-wise in general and when the rest of the jutsu will synergize heavily with it (two Athletics debuff on top of an Athletics check attack? Yes please), then she needs to level it. Leaving it low would make that more difficult.

Conversely:
- Shadow Imitiation for a future cornerstone attack method, combined with her Shadow Clones Shadow Stepping around and casting Shadow Betrayals, making the Imitiation bindings easier to land while Kei Prime hides away or contributes from the safety of range. Then finish opponents off with Ranged Weapons on now immobilized targets, or summons. Ideally she would not enter enemy-adjacent Zones, boosting her safety greatly.
- Shadow Visage because its a general purpose defensive jutsu which she will probably want to level to further boost her survival odds, and also because it is personally appealing to her.

Nara Clan Ninjutsu

This is a summary of Kei's potential Nara ninjutsu, to be presented to Hazō next time the two meet (unless Hazō dies before then, in which case ignore this post).

Shadow Imitation – You know it, you love it. The user's shadow stretches out to ensnare an opponent's own shadow. If the connection is made, the user can control the opponent's body, making them imitate everything the user does.
Shadow Guardians – A defensive technique that is particularly effective against ranged weapons and in single combat.
Shadow Step – An enhancement to Substitution that hinders enemy movement.
Shadow Betrayal – A moderate debuff that hinders enemy movement.
Shadow Visage – A general-purpose defensive technique.

While she cannot share more details with you (even this much is pushing it), she, as always, defers leveling decisions to you. If you do not give specific instructions, she'll make decisions of her own volition. Please vote in a Kei training plan for this coming cycle spending at least 500 XP into these ninjutsu.

In Kei's opinion, she thinks Shadow Guardians suits her style, Shadow Imitation is generally strong, and Shadow Visage is appealing personally.
Do we get to know whether these jutsu scale by AB or by level?

Does Kei think any of them in particular would benefit from the Gouketsu specialty (explosives, seals)?

Do we know that a 200db Banshee Seal won't just destroy itself immediately? There are going to be massive kinetic and thermal effects at the epicenter, does the seal have fiat immunity to all of those? It feels like this is just heading towards a self-induced sealing failure mode like implosion seal stacking.

Another aspect that stands out: Are we sure that the scaling effect at play here is really adhering to the dB scale? Because that's the only reason it's so powerful; we're treating further refinement of the seal as just incremental increases to this human-invented metric, but in a literal sense we're saying "after further research, we've figured out how to multiply the energy output by 1,000 times.". And if we translated that same effort to, say, explosive seals, that would not be a reasonable statement.

(Is this a "yes, the jutsu/seal/etc actually obeys this game rule, conservation of energy/sanity/integrity-of-the-universe be damned" thing? I know that was essentially what happened with EM Nuke.)

This link is already broken.

Shadow Imitiation seems great... but mechanically, what would it be checking against, I wonder? Alertness if surprised and Athletics otherwise?
Typically, even if you're surprising your enemy, you don't check against Alertness -- instead, you would check against Athletics with a bonus for surprise (after your Stealth/Deceit/whatever beat their Alertness). This is a general thing for most any attack.

Do we know if there are Stunts that would make RW scale appropriately at higher levels?
What do you mean?

Do we get to know whether these jutsu scale by AB or by level?
No, but all of them except for Shadow Imitation are meant to be useful at non-capstone levels.

Does Kei think any of them in particular would benefit from the Gouketsu specialty (explosives, seals)?
Not in particular, though the debuffs would have a clear application in holding people still so that they can be blown up.

Hmm good point, just in case of sealing failure maybe we would be better off if it wasn't a constantly emitting source but rather an immediate single burst, which would do a majority of the damage anyways. Perhaps with 3D sealing the seal would be durable enough, depending on the material properties of the stone we use...

We are not sure. Sealing seems like you can kind of do whatever you want though, I don't think how much energy something creates is directly related to how hard it is, though it is definitely a factor.

Oh good point, we should research that too! Sounds about like what Deidara does. Kage level sealing should be able to mimic that.

It still works on my desktop but doesn't on mobile, idk. Either way, the reddit thread I linked is about the same clip so you can find it there if I can't fix the link.

Good point. And since it's single-use, we can afford for it to have side effects if they help create the sound wave. Like generating heat or fire...

Wait.

So, by and large, we have two main options: raise 1 jutsu to level 30 and then another to 10, or raise all of the jutsu except for one to level 20.

Well, there are gradients between those two options, but keeping the jutsu levels at an even "10/20/30" stat fills that slot for pyramid-purposes and also allows Kei to cast it at the next AB, while maximizing XP-efficiency.

If we have Kei pick one level 30 and one level 10, then that means that it'll take 9 "steps" to get to Shadow Clone 60, but if we go my suggested route of several 20s, then it only takes 7 "steps" to get to Shadow Clone 60.

As before, here are Kei's current stats.

I've chosen to raise all the Nara jutsu with the exclusion of Shadow Imitation to 20, since these jutsu are specifically designed to be functional at non-capstone levels.

I hate to naysay your hard work but I don't think raising shadow clone to 60 makes sense for Kei. She doesn't benefit from the extra time and the extra range is negligible, for how expensive this would be and how valuable the 60 pyramid space is.

Ah, oops.

I had thought that with the "Snowflake Malus" to FOOM, Shadow Clone needed to be raised to a 60-slot... My mistake.

Eh, It was a fun little time sink, anyway.

Edit: The overall buildpath is still valid if we decide that we want to raise Athletics or Alertness to 60
