Also, there's another way we can stop Asuma from using EM nukes, without having to kill anyone.

We simply have to convince the QMs that EM nukes don't actually work, leading to a grue.
The most natural Grue of EM would be turning it from a ninjutsu into a Stunt, with strict limits on temperature control and radius, perhaps equivalent to only affecting a zone.

@RandomOTP
You disagreeing with my takes is not me being antagonistic. Me being sad about what happens in the story is not me being antagonistic.

I double-checked my posts in this thread, because I do care about my effect here, and people have been certainly ruder to me than I have to them. There is one case I stepped over the line in a conversation with Inferno, and I immediately apologized for that. Otherwise I have been perfectly civil, unlike (eg.) the "questionable mental calisthenics" that have been levied at me.
In thread and on the Discord, you are repeatedly taking an antagonistic attitude of superiority and passive aggression. Repeatedly posting things such as "Two down, at least one more on the way" reeks of the aforementioned tone.

Furthermore, you're taking a stance of "Me Versus the Entire Playerbase" when you state that "people have certainly been ruder to me than I have to them." I'm not talking about them. I'm not talking about other situations. I'm talking about this one. Please do not allow your past interactions with other people to influence your present interactions with me.

Furthermore, your stating that my request for a more peaceful communication is the result of "questionable mental calisthenics" does not make for a peaceful environment where an open and honest exchange of ideas can be had. Unless your phrase is something that has been said to you, by someone else. In which case, I would caution you against the idea that "other people have been mean to me, so I can be mean to you."

Again: I observe an antagonistic tone and would like to politely request that it cease.

But once in the most secure subterranean environment he could prepare on minimum notice, neither of them was able to find words.
hope no one snooped

How much did he trust Shikamaru? How much did he need Shikamaru? Would the refusal of any potential hint make it easier or harder to protect the secret overall?

"Yes," Hazō said heavily. "Someone outside the clan could theoretically do the same if they knew how. That's why I'm here, Shikamaru. I need your help. It can't be allowed to happen."
yay hazou pilot

but if there is one absolute rule that gets enforced, it is that Leaf's ninja do not kill its civilians.
lol liar.

They were also sufficiently terrible for T&I, if that was what it took. Hazō thought he had the mental resilience to withstand a Yamanaka mind probe, but it wasn't like he'd ever tried, and it also wasn't like Asuma would stop until he had the information he believed was necessary to protect Leaf from total destruction.
time to prepare some suicide switches. wait ninja can just burn their chakra i think.

"There is a technique called Elemental Mastery," Hazō said, and a new pain blossomed in his heart as he readied himself to betray Akane. "Every Fire Element user in Isan knows it, and Akane learned it on our first visit there. It's a mild temperature control ninjutsu that cools their homes in summer and warms them in winter."
too late for suicide. boo hazou pilot.

When Hazō (the real one) reached Asuma's office, he found the man in front of the western window as the hellstorm in the distance devoured cloud after cloud in an endless dark stream.
@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped
Did hazou ask asuma to send away ANBU? And for maximum OPSEC? I mean there's a window to the outside world right there which doesn't sound like an OPSEC room.

"In fact," Asuma went on, "I think I can see the logical next step. Tell me, Hazō, has Shimura contacted you yet?"

"No, sir." Hazō shook his head. "Which Shimura is supposed to contact me, and why?"

"I see," Asuma said. "Well, you may or may not be aware that when Shimura Danzō's tragic death was discovered, my father's people were unable to find a will or any other such document[...]
I wonder if this is Asuma being subtle? Asuma may be saying "Stop being a plotter on the world stage and be indoctrinated a naturalized citizen already. Don't be a Danzou."

AMI: <And here, I'll subtly mention the Mist Yakuza Oyabun they've been meeting to keep him off balance.>
AMI: ... It's why even someone as stunningly ambitious as Teuchi knows never to overstep.
HAZOU: *blank stare*
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: is that the ramen guy

I'll say I definitely wish we would've waited for Mari. It couldn't possibly have gone worse and he already believed the seal failure excuse. Mari could've spoke for Hazou with the excuse of him being mentally compromised by the sealing failure (which he was funny enough) and Akane never gets mentioned, and the whole thing blows over.

Oh well.

and will soon be able to get the idea of intense Shadow Clone training from Akane
aaaaahhhhhhh. It might be worth refusing the scan just to keep FOOM safe. Them learning the EM jutsu alone wouldn't be enough since they could just get it from ISAN.

My point is that the jutsu he's giving us aren't going to be the type Hazou can make superweapons into; they'll be the type that people have experimented on extensively and the effects beyond well-established.
he's giving us restricted jutsu. That means fewer people have looked at it. Means more likely Hazou can finagle something.

Really not sure what I could have done to convince people to have done something else.
The biggest surprise for me was Hazou pilot ignoring the plan and just caving to Asuma. If you had convinced me he would do this mighta helped. But as shika said we still needed Asuma to prevent Isan proliferation. And I dunno what you could have said to convince me Hazou pilot would do this.

Tbh y'all should just stop talking. As someone who's repeatedly been in these types of conflicts I can guarantee nothing good will come out of going back and forth
But if they stop talking they will never learn A) the source of their disagreement. And B) how to predict what will cause future disagreements.
Although I'm guessing when you say nothing good happens that means in your experience A and B are rarely achieved.

Mari could've spoke for Hazou with the excuse of him being mentally compromised by the sealing failure (which he was funny enough) and Akane never gets mentioned, and the whole thing blows over.
But we need Asuma to prevent Isan proliferation.

Wow... The meeting with Asuma certainly... happened.

I think we should be clear with Akane what all we told Asuma, if we have not already. Make it clear to her that he knows this was EM, and knows where he can find it if he cannot find it from Akane.

I suspect that this could make Akane hate us. I also suspect it could keep Akane from doing the heroic thing and trying to remove herself as a proliferation vector. Personally, I value Akane's existence over Akane's feelings for Hazo, much as it is a terrible choice.

..Nukes man.

Current action plan.

Something quick since voting closes tomorrow.

[X] Action Plan: Release the Gs
Wordcount: tbd
  • Send Akane, as ordered
  • Go to Gaku, tell him to start an accounting of what the clan would need to move estates.
  • Kagome: we're alive and unharmed, but did a thing, without meaning to. Prove our identity to his satisfaction, and then ask for a hug. We really put our foot in it, sensei.
  • Noburi: Hey, you said you wanted to focus on medical skills and your bloodline. Want an apprenticeship with Tsunade? We did a thing, so it's already been paid for.
  • Go to Kei, ask that she help Akane. We did a thing. Maintain censorship and opsec.
    • She's helped Akane before, and has given us good advice in the past.
    • She also understands agency intimately, and can empathize easily.
      • Snowflake, too, if she's willing?
    • Akane won't want to see our face right now, let alone receive comfort from us.
  • When Mari returns...
    • Explain to Mari what happened under maximum opsec environment. Begin with Asuma's disclaimer. If she thinks we're safe to read her in fully, then read her in fully. If not, then give her a censored version of events.
    • Ask Mari to help Akane out. We were the ones who did this to her. Akane won't want to see our face, let alone receive comfort from us.

This was within the bounds of my plan, I believe. The intention is that we'd go to Shikamaru and get his opinion on the optimal route to take forward for anti-proliferation, and Shika basically said "yeah no sorry there's no way out of this without coming clean to Asuma, especially if you want to run containment on the 'everyone in Isan knows it' problem". So Hazou comes clean to Asuma, and the conversation from there is basically forced down a linear route because, well, Hokage gets to make the orders.

It's regrettable that Shikamaru didn't have any better options for us, but given that he didn't Hazou did pretty much exactly what I expected.
