i don't want team to risk their flesh and blood bodies
we should ask nara for idea help
i'd like to owe ami a favor for her help (trade creates surplus) but things are awkward right now with her almost planning to kill us earlier
i'm afraid of us further poisoning the well for future contact. so would like a certain level of optimization if we going to do contact now.

edit:
if we can't manage things ourselves. tempted to rope oro in. he'll take a share of the stuff. but a portion of something is better than nothing.

I'd think Kei or Akane might catch it, but I could bring it up to them.
I could bring up whether to contact Shika or handle it internally as a clan.

catch what?
for asking about sharing profits with shika i'm hesistant of kei's pessimism. but she likes shika so i guess she should be semi-well-calibrated

Hazou and Canain will venture back into the cave system (closest areas with mind-controlled chakra beasts) with puzzles to test the Entity on sapience. Bring lots of meat to the crystal as some compensation to its reduced defenses (slaughtered chakra beast minions.)
Why is Hazou the one to enter? Why can't his Shadow Clone (or Kei's, or Akane's) do this?

I guess Kei or Akane could provide an SC and Hazou summons Canain.

No, I meant catch as in 'going in might make things worse'. But you do have a good point about us not shitting up the bed.
Also I'd think the Nara would have a protocol for salvaging first contacts with foreign beings, so there's also that.

Made some plan changes as indicated by the underline. Update original in a sec.
  • Establish the sapience and threat level of the Entity to local villagers and whether it can be communicated after a rather violent first contact with the team.
  • Deliberate with team if risking contact with the entity will further poison relations and if Shika, the Nara, and Hokage should be contacted for next steps.
  • If given the go-ahead.
    • A shadow clone (Kei or Akane) and Canain will venture back into the cave system (closest areas with mind-controlled chakra beasts) with lots of meat to the crystal as some compensation for its reduced defenses (slaughtered chakra beast minions.) and with puzzles to test the sapience of the Entity.
    • Puzzles can consist of simple shape-sorting toys, building blocks, and a golem and crystal figurines as gifts (and a test for signs of self-recognition).
    • Optimize with Kei and Canain. Plant and Crystal release may come in handy. Maybe the crystal will get curious over their similarities?
    • Prepare pictographs in the event that the Entity is deemed sapient.
    • The key here is to avoid confrontation while also testing how far they can approach the chakra beasts and crystal without violence. Essentially, can Canain play with it?
      • Back off if the entity or its chakra beasts seem agitated.
      • Make use of the controlled chakra beasts as sufficient intermediaries for the Entity. Examine their behavior.
      • Prepare exfiltration and safety measures as before.
      • Seal the cave entrance in worst-case scenario of crystal gearing up to unleash its wrath on the locals.
        • Prepare any defenses you can for locals and warn them.
  • If team or Shika advises not to contact crystal, head back to Leaf.
  • Touch base with Noburi and get an update as to how things have been in Leaf since the team left.
EDIT: Changes made to original. Shadow clones are going in with Canain. I couldn't decide between Akane or Kei, so I'll leave it to them.

can't undo killing crystal. if crystal is worth small country dead, then it's potential value alive could be even higher. so i want it alive.
we are protecting the villagers.
we aren't risking ourselves (aside from risk of mind effect when shadow clones pop)
nara should hopefully be enough to not further damage cave relations

thats enough for my vote
[X] Action Plan: Second Contact

some feedback/suggestions
Establish the sapience and threat level of the Entity to local villagers and whether it can be communicated after a rather violent first contact with the team.
we don't have info on sapience of cave to tell the villagers. more then the villagers already attribute to the cave. unless you mean reporting to them the results of the tests? if so for clarity i'd change bullet structure: put the tests as indented point, or put the sapience point after the tests.
also just noting that giving complete details of entity encounter will reveal us as ninja to the villagers.

there is more info we can gather about cave
  • ask village witch about herbs/plants from cave
  • ask dog summon of the mind effect. any communication/insights?
  • ask yuno/akane more details of how they managed to escape
safety precautions: tell summons about mind effect beasts. pop any allies affected by mind affect.

I worded that awkwardly. We're not reporting to the villagers. It's supposed to investigate whether the crystal has sapience while also determining the threat level it poses to the villagers. I only propose telling them anything in case the worse happens and the crystal is gonna go balistic on the surrounding area.

Ill change it.

EDIT: Altered to this.
  • Investigate if the crystal entity has sapience and determine if it's dangerous to the locals.

I still believe we're projecting too much onto it. I'm on board with trying contact etc. but we're at "establishing sapience" where "establishing life" hasn't been done, and we may be setting ourselves up for disappointment. Now I'm kinda hoping for life and even psychologically interesting life with others, but... yeah.

We know there's energy and chakra effects, for all we know that's more of an automated flow that routinely happens at chakra anomalies (just a theory I just made up, but "chakra does weird things pretty well on its own" is an observed fact).
Chakra golems are a known risk, so we know chakra alone can create life out of underground elements, but apparently chakra golems are something like the apex of generation from natural chakra concentrate and even those are just chakra beasts. Rampaging, hyper-potent chakra beasts, sure, but chakra beasts nonetheless. We only know them to be violent, just as with any other monster.

We're ascribing emotions, goals, potential rational thought, the glimmer of personality even, to something that hasn't displayed any of that.

This isn't the first time we "hear stone speak", Earthshaping just does that:
And then he turned his attention back to the stone.

I am the heart of the world, torn from my rest.

It wasn't words, it wasn't consciousness, it was simply the nature of being, the way it was the nature of water to be wet. Still, Hazō reached out to that nature, suggesting and leading instead of demanding.
Categorical denial such as the one encountered could be ascribed to the chakra in place pushing Hazō's back, and chakra itself having a "will" of sorts it prompted development of some sort of defence/"managing the event" system, perhaps humanoid only because of Hazō's chakra signature. This makes me reconsider the "not part of the world you know" thing. It now seems to me there's a good chance for it to just be blanket "no" feedback when Hazō said things to the effect of "yo, you're world amirite". Perhaps someone with tremendous chakra capacity dumping it all in Earthshaping would have simply succeeded, thinking "damn, it was hard, just like wallwalking around here".
Frankly, this is my working theory. If whatever chakra's in the crystal works like ours - that is to say, as a primal force, has "intent" and randomly got the intent of "staying here/defending its staying here", then it explains what happened. Chakra beasts are drawn/appear near the beacon that it is, it co-opts them because their signature enters the thing/its energy enters them and it has stronger "intent" (more chakra and sole goal). Humans enter and push it out of the stone it seeped it: it copies humans out of stone and reshapes the stone around itself "protectively", copying the jutsu, in a likely (or at least possibly) automated pattern aimed at "defending its staying here").
Any source of chakra that does not disperse despite chakra tending to do this naturally (which is why we can't have super long range ninjutsu, amongst other things) would need to have a reason not to disperse, so some primal intent to affix itself to something makes it one of the only reasons it would, by mere survivorship. If it is alive and learns and has goals, it is difficult to conceive why it would have stayed under the form of completely immobile life, and profoundly reactive rather than proactive in pursuing its goals. Unless its goals are something like... planetary parasitism on a very large scale, which it might be if we consider the "co-opting monsters, pushing chakra through stone, growing veins in it, and making this merry little complex eat things". If it is, then smashing it would be grand, though.

A large problem with Plan: Grab Loot, Go Home

Right now, is that it's effectively false advertising, as it doesn't actually have us grab any loot at all, and purely has us go home.

Acres of Broken Glass isn't trying to disguise itself as something it is not.

While Plan: Grab Loot, Go home. Definitely is

That's not the same.

One is false advertising, and the other could at worst be argued to be a vaguely pretentious sounding Plan name.

The plan was originally to go harvest a ton of resources and then leave. Paper then informed us that we'd already done the massive harvest, so it no longer made sense to include that in the plan. However, changing the plan name without invalidating peoples' votes isn't something you can really do in this voting system.

It's still time to go break everything and take everything
