[X] Let Velorien write whatever he wants. We trust him.
[X] Interlude: Goketsu Chunin Introduction
[X] Action Plan: Noburi Only

Giant statues are gauche. I want a grand repository of detailed figurines. Each and every member of our clan, civilians and ninja the exact same size.

Once again I just barge in after the fact and criticize plan details too late to make a difference... But did people actually read that article before voting for a plan that just included such a thing? The conditions in that town are very specific. And I don't see the Gokētsu compound ever looking like that, even if the Wakahisa Koi are "only" as sensitive as real Koi.

@ people who are smarter than me and/or good at math, should we have a clone work on grinding through the sealing notes? Another option would be to have a clone work on new sealing projects. If anyone has suggestions or other critiques of the plan let me know!

[X] Action plan: A little bit of fluff

  • Have a lesson with Harumitsu
    • He's now at a point where he should be thinking about a personal project
      • Suggest several path that he could take
        • Single color HOWS
        • An explosive varient
        • something with a timer
        • some other easy suggestions
      • Make sure that he understands both Hazou and Kagome will be available to advise him on this
    • Reflect on your own time starting to do independent research under Kagome
      • Things have changed so much since then
    • Ask Harumitsu what his plan for the future are?
      • Stress that no matter how big or small his dreams are Hazou will be there helping him every step of the way
  • Meet with Kei to discuss going after the Squirrel Scroll
    • Lay out all the information we have
    • See if the Nara have any information on where the meeting on the eastern continent went down.
    • Ask if she is willing to join you on this hunt
      • We both have incredibly good track records on finding priceless magical artifacts
      • It would be nice to go out on a mission as a team again
      • Bringing Akane seems prudent since Hazou's intent is that the scroll is for her,
      • Yuno has worked well with Akane in the past, and she's an excellent tracker.
      • Noburi would be helpful for moral support and diplomacy skill, the versatility of water element, and having an additional Summoner present, plus distributing chakra.
  • misc
    • Arrange for hot air balloon (using paper lanterns as inspiration) research with the Skyslider research team
      • Suggest using waxed spider silk, should we have enough, for the balloon, since it worked so well with skysliders, and animal oil for the fuel.

I believe Paper was looking it over, I think it's most efficient to do something along the lines of having a clone read the notes every other day. Gotta weigh hitting the level cap early and then not being able to read the notes for a while, or read them slower so it aligns with the pyramid expanding. In the first instance we get to a local max quicker, but in the second we get past that cap sooner/are slightly further ahead in FOOM

I want to say he's making some effortposts soon so just keep an eye out for that

@Oneiros Could add a bit to the Harumitsu scene about Kagome taking over training while we are out of the village on the scroll hunt. Not essential, but makes sense IMO.

Remember when Team Uplift first rejoined Leaf, and Kagome, worried about Kei sneaking off with a Leaf ninja (Tenten) several times per week, secretly followed them? Kagome discovered that Kei and Tenten were dating, and he kept it a secret? He knew before Hazou did.

Kagome is an absolute dear, and a big old softie. He's pretty awesome.

Hey people, if you don't see my shitposts and deep analyses (... shitposts it is) in the coming days, it's normal, I'm not dead or dying. I'm at round two of trying for the super hard competitive exam France has for people who want to be teachers (there's a regular one and a super hard one and I was dumb enough to sign up for the one that pays better) and I need the time to work and/or cry because this is a genuinely harrowing experience. I'll be done in three days, at which point I might still be disappeared for a week or so while I try to recover enough spoons to be functional. Lots of love to all of you, and take my word on it: don't try for complex academical achievements if you've got untreated crippling ADHD!

It's unclear if you plan to involve the whole skyslider team into the hot air balloon research or split a member or two to start a new research team.

Do you have suggestions?
I do! The thematically appropriate way would be to attach paper lanterns to the currently working prototype and waste hours upon hours of research time on creating a barely working planeglobe thing that rises on an oil fire, then drops the glider for a single use fast transport.

The boring effective way would be to earthshape charcoal into micrometer thin vacuoles to form a foam that is lighter than air and just hang stuff from it ourselves. Diamond age tech jump, skip the duck.

I wish you fortitude then. Exams are harrowing regardless of ADHD, this must be hell.

[X] Action Plan: Brother, Sister
Word count: <300
  • Sanity-check w/Mari.
  • Noburi:
    • We were tired. We're sorry. You're our brother. We love you. Are we cool?
    • We see your options as…
      • Earth element - positives: MARI/PEA, reputation w/Toads, negatives: big investment, not unique (Summons/other ninja).
      • Medicine - positives: relatively unique, Uplift-aligned, notes available, negatives: backline work, doesn't increase survivability.
      • Jutsu - positives: survivability, reputation w/Toads, negatives: 'normal' option, limited Water jutsu in Leaf.
      • Resolve - positives: critical for SC, negatives: limited other applications.
      • Something else?
    • We're trying to present a balanced picture - it's all important.
    • We support whatever you choose.
    • Have you decided?
    • Do you want help deciding? (Advice? Proposed builds?)
  • Kei/Snowflake:
    • We'd like to pursue the Squirrel Scroll.
      • Lay out what we know: bloody clothes, rough time/place, anything else.
      • Do the Nara know anything else? Intel on the Eastern Continent meeting? General thoughts?
    • We'd love you to come with us.
      • It's been a while since we've gotten to spend any time beyond planning meetings, damage control, or twisting Shikamaru's arm. That's fun (sometimes) but we miss spending time with you. The mission would be a nice opportunity to relive some of the old days, with less terror.
      • Is there anything we can do to make that possible/attractive?
    • Team composition:
      • Akane - ideally, we want the scroll for her.
      • You - wax eloquently about her brilliance until she makes us stop.
      • Snowflake - do the same thing as above. Come adventuring!
      • Who else - Yuno? Noburi? Haru? Naruto? Ami? Hired chuunin? Others?
  • Misc.:
    • Ask the leader of the Skyslider team if they have a subordinate who could head another research project without crippling Skyslider research.
      • If so, give them a few people from the Skyslider team, hire a few folks, and pursue hot air balloons.
      • Animal oil for fuel? Spider silk (waxed) for balloons?
      • Let Yuno know.

I have some plan suggestions/feedback. I'm not sure if they're areas where we Just Disagree, hence my own plan above, but it's broadly similar to yours and I'd be happy to pull it if we wind up in alignment.

      • Stress that no matter how big or small his dreams are Hazou will be there helping him every step of the way
    • Let him know that we might be going on a mission soon but, Kagome will sub in for us
The first and third subpoints seem good, no notes. The second subpoint is a little unclear to me - are we reflecting internally, out loud, something else? Are we trying to accomplish something, or just thinking? Being a bit more explicit is rarely unwelcome and plausibly makes life easier from a QM perspective.

I have some reservations about how we're handling 'hey, might be going on a mission soon'. Harumitsu could quite plausibly be feeling neglected, like we're shirking our duty, or maybe Lord Hag has been dripping poison in his ear. He had a funny reaction when we did research instead of teaching him earlier.
"Um...are you suggesting we do research, s-sensei? I thought today was lessons?"

That brought Hazō up a little short. Today was in fact a teaching day for Harumitsu and Hazō. (Well, for Hazō TeacherGuy. Hazō Prime was working with Kagome-sensei on summoning, Hazō SkySmasher was working on the Air Tunnel seals that would hopefully result in the destruction of Hidden Rock, and Hazō Hoorah! (the exclamation point was in fact part of the spelling of his name) was working on the Action Relay Seal that he was hoping would allow seals to be activated at a distance.)

"Well, I suppose. It's only one test and then we'll go back to teaching."

Harumitsu seemed like he wanted to say something, possibly something acidic, but he nodded politely. "We'll do the preparations, right?"
I'd prefer that we try to talk to him a little about how he feels about his instruction and then ask him how he'd feel about studying under Kagome if we wind up going on a mission. IMO the little social niceties will go a long way in maintaining our relationship with him especially given that we've plausibly neglected him a little recently. For good reason, sure, but emotions and reason run at right angles.
  • Ask Harumitsu how he's feeling about his training.
    • Demand honesty: introduce CCnJ and get into a social fight if he's hiding things.
    • Sealmasters need to communicate clearly and honestly or else people turn inside out.
    • Listen to his feelings. After he's had some space to vent, apologize where appropriate.
  • Let Harumitsu know we might have some missions coming up soon. How would he feel about Kagome as an instructor while we're absent?
    • Be clear that we view Harumitsu's instruction as both a professional priority (clan head and sealmaster) and a personal privilege. Teaching him is a joy and we wouldn't trade it for anything.
That might put you over wordcount and obviously you don't have to use it, but it would allay all my concerns. I think it speaks to where I'm coming from.

I didn't include the Harumitsu section in mine because Vel said it would be the most difficult section to write (of my three plan fragments). That said, I'm invested in seeing this and plan on voting for it in EJ's next update if it doesn't happen this time around.
  • Meet with Kei to discuss going after the Squirrel Scroll

I don't think that we need to sell Kei on our great mission track record. Instead, maybe ask if she wants to come, and what we can do (if anything) to make it possible.

I have some reservations about taking Hazo, Kei, Noburi, Akane, and Yuno out on a mission which would probably last a week, minimum. As well as being a huge use of manpower probably subject to Tower approval (effectively two specJ and three chuunin, one of whom is the linchpin of some of Leaf's most effective techniques) we're also leaving ourselves without a good way to get in touch with the clan - Kagome is great and can relay messages, but being able to phone home to Noburi or Kei is a different kettle of fish.

Asking Kei and Snowflake what they think about mission composition would be good IMO - it's possible this is what you mean to be doing but right now it sounds (to me) like telling her who'll be there, not asking.

Re: the hot air balloons, my plan above lays out how I would handle 'hey, can you take on another project'.

I'd like to see us approach the Kei/Snowflake interaction a little differently but changing the Harumitsu section to something that addresses the concern of 'hey, he's plausibly feeling a little neglected, let's take a very soft approach' would get my vote.

Everything you want to do is important. It's not - yet - possible for you to do it all at once.
  • What do you want to do?
Not satisfied by this. Could have the wrong impression of training, but feels like a life-and-death decision. If an Olympic coach was helping an athlete decide how to tailor training for events they wanted to compete in, asking what they want to do is not helping them come to an informed decision. Have to talk about tradeoffs of specializing in one event or multiple, and damage to the body after retirement.

Training is absolutely a life-and-death decision. However, Noburi understands this and HazoPilot saw fit to tell him, 'hey, pick one'.

IMO our relationship with Noburi is not that of coach and coached, but (with respect to training) consultant and client. Noburi is happy with the work we're doing but if we can't fit his needs he'll either do it himself or hire someone else. It doesn't matter how good we are at our job if our client is unhappy with our work.

I suspect that Noburi will give us a single direction to pursue and we'll go after that. All of the options are pretty reasonable - Earth Element is probably the least reasonable but he can pick up PEA so it isn't a complete waste.

I also don't know that this element of training is a life-and-death decision: it might determine the course of his life, but it's unlikely that picking up Earth element vs. studying medicine more aggressively will get him killed - in the Really Dangerous situations, neither will be of particular utility compared to whatever the core survival stats are. We aren't planning on ignoring those.

That said, I'm open to suggestions if you can articulate something actionable.

It feels like the 'hey, pick one' framing was voted in and was part of the reason the first conversation did not go well. Asking Noburi to pick something without any input is cold. It sends a message of indifference to a big decision in his life, the opposite side of the spectrum to revoking his choice. Hazō should share his preferences but make it clear that his biggest preference is Noburi's health and happiness. Sharing preferences is hard because not all voters agree. Can only articulate that the elephant in the room is SC. Not mentioning it or the obstacles to getting it for Noburi after he worked for one year on ACE feels like too important of an omission, if not deceptive.

This is mostly just for the vibes. I want Hazou to reflect on how his life is very different from how it used to be. It's just mostly a prompt for Vel to play with without any explicit goal.

I have some reservations about how we're handling 'hey, might be going on a mission soon'. Most of this critique and suggestion just doesn't align with the vibe of the scene in my plan. We are having some nice Instructor student bonding where we are showing our trust in Harumitsu. Immediately pivoting to a tell me how I suck at teaching doesn't line up with what we are doing now. Also I 100% think that we should not introduce CCnJ to him. It's a tool designed for non-neurotypical nerds to use to navigate conversations. It doesn't work super well with Normies. As we saw when we tried to introduce it to Minami.

Let Harumitsu know we might have some missions coming up soon. How would he feel about Kagome as an instructor while we're absent?
  • Be clear that we view Harumitsu's instruction as both a professional priority (clan head and sealmaster) and a personal privilege. Teaching him is a joy and we wouldn't trade it for anything.
This however does mostly work with for me. Will implement something close to it soon

This once again is for the vibes. It's a fun playful line which also highlights how awesome we are. 100% unwilling to cut that.

yeah was meant to be suggestions to talk over with her. Will make an edit to make that more clear

This is fine. I have no serious investment in this but know there's a large portion of the playerbase that likes the engineering stuff.
